    My last death

Not to sound cynical, but I doubt it. The shit that is plaguing this engine today is the same shit that plagued it back in 2000 (meh 1999-2001, somewhere in there). Only big difference, in Operation Flashpoint, if a server admin wanted to ban you or kick you, they banned you. I honestly cant remember what cheat deterrent was used back then, didn't matter because the admins handled it without prejudice.
  2. well, let me expand on that. it can be done, but it depends really on what the OP is looking for as an end result. Like right now we get random models and texture packs (skins) for our in game characters. If he wants something like "custom" variations, meh... It would have to be presets, and then some sort of GUI selection screen would have to be made. That last part is where I have no clue if its possible. But modeling different looking characters, having much broader spectrum of texture packs, is not an issue.
  3. hell i dont see why an entire texture pack couldn't be done. I know it can be done in regards to the single player aspects cause I have made dozens myself, not sure about the online integration though.

    My last death

I agree 100%. I guess all I was saying is I don't think we should get our hopes up, or our expectations set to high. Personally I think many of the issues that plague the mod today, will plague it in 5 months, because many of those issues where inherited from ARMA II, other issues, well... I'll just stop there lol.

    My last death

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think it is unfair to compare a stand alone game being developed by a studio with a mod being developed by a small team. People sometimes, myself included, need to remember this is just a mod, it found a niche, it became popular. There is only so much the DayZ people can do. This may be a bad example, because I don't know if you are familiar with sports game, but people have made NCAA mods for NBA2K11 and NBA2K12 ( the later is still being developed), it isn't realistic to expect them to be able to compete ( in many aspects) with a stand alone NCAA game produced my EA sports. While they may be able to make a awesome mod ( and they do) they are still limited on resources and restricted to the confines the base game allows. I am not trying to detract from the OP's displeasure, I full get it believe me. But we need to be mindful that it is a mod.

what is it with you people

just out of curiosity, besides Battle Eye as a cheat prevention system, what rules are enforced by B.I.S. in regards to how a server is expected to be ran? anyone?

The current state of this game.

A lot of server owners due care, their hands are just tied.

  11. I don't understand why the dev's just don't host a few servers themselves that are connected to the hive and then let everyone else run their own servers the way they see fit. If someone is paying for a server, they should be able to kick someone to make room for a friend/clan mate especially if they are contributing money to flip the bill. There shouldn't be a slot minimum. Admins should be able to ban for whatever reason they want ( even if it is flaky) Online games have been ran like this for years, when did COD or Counter Strike, or Tactical Ops ever have a gestapo overlord mandating how servers should be run. The big issue to me seems to be the "hive". So like I suggested, let the Dev's host some servers that are connected to the hive, they can run it by there rules however they see fit, and let other servers do there thing. Or allow mini-hives, where admins can decide if they want to join in with another server(s). I don't, maybe thats why there is a growing popularity with private servers. Maybe instead of shunning the idea they ( being the devs) should embrace it. And as far as abusive admins, admins are like players, there are good ones and bad ones. Just the way it is. But the admins shouldn't be getting yolked out while the exploiters and hackers get free reign.

    Q. Can zombies open doors?

Yes, or just walk through the walls, or floor, or... meh, you get the point.

    Flamethrowers

Depends on how you classify a "flame thrower". In many regards its a perfectly feasible make shift weapon.

    Reinforce vehicles

I was just talking to my friend/ gaming buddy about this today actually. As an iron worker ( welder) and fan of apocalyptic type of scenarios, I have said on many occasions one of the first things I would do personally is mod the shit out of some sort of vehicle for extra protection. But from the stand point of Dayz, that means they would have to make models for all the vehicles, extra scripting etc etc. The idea is awesome, and makes perfect sense, we can only wait and see.

    Why Day-Z Fails

I've seen this on numerous other posts, "the stand alone". How do you expect, or think, he ( or anyone) can make a stand-alone game when they are using another games engine? And not just the engine, most of their assets as well. B.I.S doesn't even own the rights for the game engine outright, Codemasters does ( from what I understand, could be wrong). But even if B.I.S. did own the engine outright , companies don't spend years, and tens of thousands of dollars developing an engine just to hand it out freely. Now there are engines out there that are open source and "free" to some extent for developing, but once you try and sell the game, you have to pay a licencing fee and in some cases royalties. So if there is a post or thread somewhere that I have missed or if I am misunderstanding the use of the term standalone ( even though it it traditionally means exactly what it sounds like it does) I don't see how anyone can think DayZ will ever be a standalone.

    Give Us a real bow

We collect wood. Start camp fires. Collect metal. Why not make arrows? and yes, a quiver is a must have, even for the xbow now.

    Give Us a real bow

mechanics and animation brother. ever wonder why the hatchet swing looks like total shit and it has to be reloaded? it might be something they could do at some point, but with all the scripting and bugs I doubt its a priority. Never know though. Pretty decent idea!

    Douchebag players everywhere I go...

Don't count on it!But to be honest, I think your best bet is just make a general post saying your new and looking for some people to play with. In fact they should start a forum for that so people no exactly where to go... well I guess New Player Discussion is as good as any. PM me your skype name and Ill add you to contacts and when Im out and about we can jam.

Stuck at Loading after updating BattlEye

I don't believe it. Battle Eye is a flawless piece of software designed and managed by a state of the art team of crack programmers. The mere implication that Battle Eye has somehow caused or thereby been involved with any game interruption is appalling. I am sickened by this post. How dare you sir, how dare you.

    Global Ban

Last week, at some point, I updated the beta patch and started having issues with server connections, I could get in but not seem to move or anything, just look at myself standing there on the beach. An update came out for DayZ and then another Beta patch, so I applied both. Then my issue became the 3D Graphic error thing. I took a break for a couple days from the game and came back to find yet another Beta Patch and another DayZ update. So I went ahead and erased everything in my steam folder pertaining to Arma and DayZ, basically starting with a fresh install hoping it would remedy the Graphic 3D error problem. It did. Then the issue became not being able to get into a DayZ server, always getting stuck on the loading screen. I was able to get into non DayZ servers though. Anyway, long story short; I followed the instructions on a thread in these forums, deleting battle eye etc etc, did all that jazz, try to get into a non DayZ server ( too update Battle Eye as per the instructions) and I get slapped with a Global Ban ( not sure the code it was a few numbers like 43563 or something like that) So yeah, what do I do now?
  21. Correct me if I am wrong but melee combat is not native to this game. And if that is correct then therein lies the issue. The infected ( zombies, whatever) are strictly melee based (from what I have seen), and they use their hands instead of a weapon with a reach factor. The only way they can conceivably pose a threat is by essentially being faster then you ( the player) to close the gap needed to hit you. I think people have "scripted" melee into the game, but that usually requires an instance to be run in order for it to work.

    Will it work?

Seriously? This is a joke right?
  23. The Major issue I have with the infected are their mechanics and animations, which is being compensated by a an unrealistic movement speed.

    New Zombies Please?!

well, maybe make another post under the suggestion, suggesting a fan/community work shop? I mean I use to mod the hell out of OFP back in the day, and there was a decent amount other that did as well. Had a forums and all that jazz, im sure they are still floating around, hell some of them might be on this forums. I dont think it would hurt to suggest it, maybe get the ball rolling on that aspect.
