Do unclaimed vehicles spawn when driving around in a vehicle?
Capco replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't quote me on this, but I believe that the reason loot/zombies won't spawn when driving through a town in a vehicle is because you enter the town too fast for the server to spawn them before you arrive. As for the vehicles, I believe they are set to spawn on a timer. From the wiki: "If a vehicle is unused, bugged or left, it will respawn after a minimum of 7 days" I have no idea if there is a % chance of them spawning every so many hours after those 7 days, or if they just always spawn exactly 168 hours after the originally spawned vehicle. However, the word minimum implies there is some sort of % chance for them to spawn after a certain amount of time has passed the 7 day minimum. To answer your question, unclaimed/broken vehicles should be spawned regardless if you are near them or not. This is why people can server hop at the chopper spawns until they find one they can fix, for example. -
I travel Chernarus with a clan and tbh we have run into the same problem. We get together, load up on food/water/fuel/ammo, hop in one of our many vehicles and then we say "ok, where to now?" to which someone responds "idk." Lootwise we have everything we ever wanted. Each time on of us dies we can always just pick them up and take them to their body before it despawns so loot loss is basically never an issue except for clothing. I'm starting to think that becoming a Whitelisted medic might be a good idea. At least we would know where to go and what to do.

Same thing happened to my clan this morning. We have a camp hidden away with several vehicles as part of our collection. Although we had more at one point, last night we had the V3S, an off-road pickup truck, an S1203 van, a tractor, and a bicycle. When our members came on this morning, they were shocked to find none of our vehicles there. The strange part, however, was that some of our vehicles had been replaced. Specifically, the V3S was transformed into a bus, and the off-road truck was transformed into a dirt bike. These two new vehicles were literally in the exact same spots that the previous ones were. Exactly. Additionally, all of our collected gear was no longer there. However, we decided to check one of our old camp spots (we are nomads and frequently move our camp) and we found all our vehicles there, in the exact same condition as yesterday morning or 2 nights ago (including the gear). So now we have a bus and motorcycle to add to our collection at least. The saddest part, then, was the unfortunate luck of having almost 2 days worth of loot disappear :(

This is textbook trolling. Wonderful form. 10/10 -
Vehicle respawn times, please lower them.
Capco replied to slavegirllucy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It could have been there already for 5-6 days if someone saved the wreckage after it was destroyed and before the next server restart. -
Loving 1.7.2.5, awesome additions/fixes, I am most impressed.

You might have joined servers that haven't updated yet. -
Spawning on the coast can be avoided if you Alt-F4 (or Alt-Tab out and close Arma II OA on the toolbar) quickly enough. Like as soon as you die. When you reconnect, you should spawn exactly where you were :D This has worked for me several times already.

Did i get hacked or are people really that good?
Capco replied to unclegus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's not cool if everyone can do that regularly without hacks... :( -
Sounds like coincidence

Wait, I thought the bandit skin was removed? And what's this humanity? Was that the scary looking green face above the thermometer?

I had this bug earlier today after getting into a car accident. After finding out I had the bug, I tried to log on to another server and I was able to move around fine. However when I went back to my original server I got the same bug again. Asking a friend to break my leg and fix me up ended up resolving the issue (once I let the shock finish of course).

Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
Capco replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I really didn't think hacking was that big of an issue until it happened to me. Two separate, highly suspicious loss-of-chopper incidences in three days was enough to bring me to this thread. The first one occurred after my clan had gathered two vehicles. We were near a dear stand raiding it (with our cars stupidly parked in the open field; lesson learned) when we heard a chopper approaching nearby. Sure enough they saw the vehicles and began lighting up the forest with their M240's. We all took cover in bushes, and held firm. Eventually they landed (probably thought we disconnected) and we lit them up pretty damn good with 2 M4's and an M24. We saw from the kill list that it was members of some other clan. We then stole that chopper and flew extremely far northwest sometime after the engagement (just off the DayZdb map). A couple minutes after landing, our (undamaged) chopper exploded out of nowhere. Maybe 30 seconds after this, we heard the sounds of another chopper (and this was after the patch where there is now only 1 chopper per server), who subsequently mowed us down as we had very little cover where we had landed. Not only that, someone with a silenced MP5 was somehow on the ground (out in the middle of nowhere) and killed the last one of us who was perfectly hidden in a ghillie suit. The second time, we had actually found a server with an unfixed chopper on the SE island. We spent the whole damn day searching for parts and jerry cans, taking the damn 14km/h small boat back and forth, until we finally had a fully-functional chopper. The next day, we spent another 6 hours flying around the server scouting for vehicles until we had collected 6 vehicles and a bike to compliment our chopper, along with 2 days worth of loot tucked inside them, all tucked away in a remote camp. Just as we were getting ready to disconnect to take a break, the last three of us came under fire from a guy in a ghillie suit with a silenced M4. However, this wasn't a legitimate bandit attack; he was teleporting around us and killing us point blank. I saw the guy with my own eyes disappear right in front of me after shooting my friend 100 meters away and then simply reappear right next to me in my bush! Our last guy alive actually managed to get to the chopper and get it in the air. As he was taking off, this hacker teleported right in front of him and started to shoot him, but to no avail. The pilot came to me on the coast to pick me up. We were headed back to our camp at quite a high altitude when out of nowhere (with no gunshots being heard or felt), we were instantly ejected from the helicopter; about 10 seconds later, the chopper exploded and we were killed in mid-air... Like someone said earlier about the loot/vehicle loss, if it's a genuine bandit killing you, well that's part of the game and whining about it is like whining about the brutal truths in life like taxes and death: it's unavoidable, so why give it concern? However, when it's someone who kills unfairly just for the sake of doing so... well that is game-breaking when you can lose the accumulation of hours of your life at the push of a hacker's button. After reading about how the mod is basically a script itself built on top of the Arma II hard code, the state of scripting in the game makes a lot of sense (not that it makes it any more excusable). I just hope the standalone has at least an average amount of PC hackers; that I could deal with. Losing the only two choppers I've ever come across to hackers in the past three days out of four weeks of playing is just... sadface :( I can take losing a chopper fair and square (like how we took our first one), but I can't stomach it from scripting..... -
Best of luck with your next sermon, evilviking. If you need additional security I would be happy to offer my services. The flashlight idea mentioned above sounds like a great idea as well. Overall, the only people in attendance should be the "press" (aka the streamers/youtubers) and the security, obviously via invite-only. All in attendance should be on a locked server.
