DayZ Developer Blog 8th March
ZlobaRUS54 replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Don't fool yourself - physically going half-way across the globe is all about marketing, if one just wants to share knowledge with a wide audience there are much better ways for that in our enlightened times. And you are right , it's not my call to make, just like it's not one person's call to elect the President, yet as they say every voice counts. How long will the Community continue to tolerate Rocket's erratic behavior? Time will tell, but this is not the first fuckup. I say changing the scope of the project in October/November, knowing full well that December deadline was not going to be made for sure, then running away and hiding from the Community was strike one. -

Then someone got their priorities wrong. Did going to big game conventions gain Rocket over 1.6 millions unique subscribers? Or was releasing great concept (even if pre-alpha quality and "unplayable" game by his own words) and engaging with the community. Going to conventions wont sell SA, you need a marketing budget beyond BiS means to get noticed through traditional marketing. Word of mouth is what sold Mod/Arma2 combo and what will sell the SA. Rocket must return to his roots before it's too late. -

You do realize how silly this sounds? The whole team of developers (this is not a hobby project anymore, RIGHT?) can not find time to do one update a week? At work I can create a KB on a complicated issue in 30 minutes how hard is it to write a page of progress update and throw a couple of screenshots in? They must have the worst time management skills in the world. -

I hope he knows what he is doing. The fatality rate would be completely unacceptable for me. -

So...How long until a DayZ ARMA 3 port?
ZlobaRUS54 replied to leviski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Agreed, I really hope A3 secondary stances make it into the DayZ:SA -
Seconded, SA models are too "clean" looking when in reality post-apocalyptic chars should look like something from The Road, dirty, in rugged torn clothing, missing teeth and so on..
-
At the state of the game as of last devblog spring release is simply not physically possible.

Zombies completly blind and deaf now???

A year of patches and we still haven not tuned infected aggro... -
When they say that major features are still in the earliest iteration and some crucial parts have not even been worked on and not just in this video but in every update what release date should a reasonable person assume, April? Examples are animations, implementing new skeleton, zombie ai and path-finding weapon attachment system, inventory, vehicle modding and so on. My gut feeling for release date is next US holiday season.

Cigarettes increase your concentration, so in game it could be modeled as bonus to aim. Also +10 to Charisma. Alcohol makes you less susceptible to injury.
-
Plenty of games do it, heck Fallout had rad and mentats addiction modeled. Max Payne and even DNF have them. It's a shame if a game that shines in survival jenre falls short.
-
Cigaretttes should have some positives effects in DayZ, just like in real-life.
-
It'd be awesome if they added voiceovers like when you clicked on items on the inventory screen from the original JA - "A .357 revolver, in excellent condition!"
-
The new crouching animations look a bit like the WarZ, in fact with the new renderer settings the whole game has that WarZ look, (not a bad thing IMHO as it was always one of the few WarZ's good points)
-
Sorry, Sir, but my experience is telling me that what has been shown and announced indicates something went really wrong in 2012. So far I have seen global renderer tweaks and a few new models, pretty much every major feature has just started being worked on or in the pipeline still.
-
+1 for searching addiction, I'm also a huge scavenger, remember not being able to leave a sector in JA2 until every little cupboard had been checked for loot :)
-
Looks nice for sure, from the looks of it it's still very very early Alpha, at this pace of development does not look like we'll see a release in the next 6 months.Am I the only one who feels like hardly any work was done on the project from the DayZ standalone announcement in July to the end of 2012? O_o

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
ZlobaRUS54 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
There is a grain of truth in it, remember in what state the mod was released and how it quickly became popular by word of mouth despite gaping flaws. Now I feel Rocket has fallen victim to the same disease that affected Daikatana and Duke Nukem Forever developers. Without strong management push towards a set release dates developers left to their own devices will just keep scrapping already completed parts of the project for something better and there is always something better. P.S. I think Rocket understood the danger when he originally said that he must release *something* by December. IMHO, changing the scope of the project midway is always a recipe for disaster. -
Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
ZlobaRUS54 replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
It depends, personally by the end of September, DayZ became basically unplayable for me in the form I wanted to play it, that is not on private servers and with more than 3 ppl. So I say WarZ provided real, if imperfect competition. -

Looking good, finally The WarZ will have some real competition. -
Many commercial developers stay engaed with community, for instance Blizzard. And small/indie develoeprs are always much better. Wasteland 2 developers provide regular updates, check it out http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2/posts People would not be moaning about release date if Rocket was wiser and provided updates, staying in touch with community (which incidently made the mod popular) would buy him a lot of good will.
-
Rocket's behaviour is becoming more bizarre, and his exuses for not releasing anything resembling regular updates less and less believable. I would not be surprised if at the end turns out he has nothing. Unless he has the worst time management skills in the world one can always find 10 minutes a week to release a small status update.

And this is son, how WW3 began..
