Next time they should loop the spin video for the first 38 mins. -
Why do we need fancy new features anyways?
ZlobaRUS54 replied to AfterShave's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Mods like Origin already have more features than expected from Standalone initial release, the only thing I'm really expected is hacker protection from new client-server architecture I just tried playing on public hive again and guess what - server nuke in under 20 minutes :( -

When people say "The paid for Dayz" when they mean they paid for Arma2 to play DayZ they are being intellectually lazy and are using language incorrectly. In places where people are used to actually counting money they have separate terms for what you mean, the closest would be TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) which includes cost of Dayz among other things and by definition is not the same thing as price of DayZ. -

The Mod is FREE, it's as black and white as it gets, arguing it's not free because you had to pay for Arma2, your PC, electricity, rent, etc is basically destroying the semantics of the word 'free' as it quickly leads to nothing being 'free' thus 'free' is now meaningless as 'free' and 'not-free' becomes same, yet most people would agree that 'free' is real, intuitively know what it means and can distinguish between X being free and not-free Y is required to enjoy X. -
Long time fan and player, faith in SA and Rocket is gone.

Ok, I get it, accept that life sucks, accept it and do not complain. Is this some kind of weird Christian philosophy? -

ZlobaRUS54 replied to itsjustadeer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
SA is not developed with unicorns and pixie dust you know, it's still the same set milestone deadline, commit-build-test process. DayZ mod worked under Rocket as long as it was on the release early, release often track, which meant something was broken in every update but people in general were happy. Unfortunately despite early promises of Minecraft model, SA development de-facto went the traditional route under Rocket as PM and that is when things started falling apart, as Rocket fell into every trap setup for an newbie project manager. -
Will Snipers Be Removed Or At Least Tweaked In S.A?
ZlobaRUS54 replied to Pokerguy12's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The outline of possible solutions is present in my reply, just read between the lines, this is not first grade. The design problems are many - survival aspect is weak, predictable loot spawns, predictable player and Z spawns. I believe SA will be fixing many of these, if you are forced to think about basic survival and necessities every minute of your playing time and danger and disease can come unexpectedly from anywhere then we will have much less people setting up on top of a hill for a session of leisurely mid-afternoon sniping. -

Very eloquently put, sir, although the second part dealing with oh so well known mod quirks is redundant. BiS/Rocket's team did screw up from purely software development process perspective. Bohemia's biggest mistake was putting such an inexperienced person as the PM. Rocket obviously has vision but not the personality for this job, he seems to be always be on some sort of up an down emotional roller-coaster, has horrible communications skills, does not work well under pressure and believes that running away from the problem can be a valid strategy. -
Will Snipers Be Removed Or At Least Tweaked In S.A?
ZlobaRUS54 replied to Pokerguy12's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Abundance of snipers is not a problem that should be solved with technical solutions, like making rifles ultra-rare or requiring a PhD to use one. It's a game design problem and the two questions we should be asking in a game that was designed from the ground up to give a realistic survival experience are: 1) In a "real" Z apocalypse would there be a significant number of people willing to waste precious ammo on low value targets 2) What is wrong with current game balance that make such people present in the game? -

I'm really excited about radios as well. The (fake) radio chatter was the most exciting thing in one of the early WarZ staged videos. -
I think Bohemia has not realized they have accidentally stumbled upon pure gold here. It's sad to see they are looking at it as just some extra income that can be milked from an older engine. I strongly suspect a case of NIH syndrome within BiS management.

You are hopeless. Managing expectations is a business term and specifically applies to software vendor. -

Rocket's team is really poor at managing expectations. If they suddenly decide SA is no longer suitable for rolling alpha release and weekly updates is too much too andlke then just say so. -

Anything "fully fledged" is light years away, we are talking delays of the initial alpha release for god sakes, as in "we must release something by December" or "alpha test is days away" (February). Now it's "we'll review the situation in June". Are you seeing a pattern yet? -

Thanks, one needs a tissue to observe the trainwreck in slow motion that is SA development. Project lead taking a two month high-profile vacation after the project had already been delayed repeatedly. Maybe Rocket could hook up with John Romero to discuss how rockstar model of software development worked out for him. -

Let me correct it for you: It's basically somewhere the developers of a game DO NOT write articles or DO NOT release vids to keep us IN THE DARK about how the progress of a game in development is going. -

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. BUT THEY AIN'T EVER GONNA SEE ANOTHER DEVBLOG. TIME TO DIE -

Let's not distract Production Assistant Matt from more important... stuff... The pizza is not going to order itself and u know.. programmers they always want pizza. Anyone demanding two hours of his time a week is sabotaging the standalone and therefore is a traitor and must be shot. -

I said so weeks ago, because it's quite apparent from the current state of the game they have only started work on many critical features and some are only in planning stage. My next prediction - I'd be surprised to see anything widely open to the general public before the Christmas holiday season. -

Actually, so far SA development fits into the DNF saga perfectly. Just ad DNF release was repeatedly postponed as 3DRealms devs kept switching to new 3D engines we have seen SA postponed when originally quite humble and realistic goals were redefined to include a new game engine and much more ambitious targets. I'm not really obsessed about SA release, just mildly amused about Rocket's poor communication skills and BiS failure to engage the community given Mods unique history with word-of-mouth crowd marketing. Hundreds of thousands of Arma2 copies were sold with no formal involvement from Bohemia and at the time when progressive marketing techniques are becoming more about reaching out to gamers through social media we observe SA having almost no digital footprint, yet alone regular forum/blog/twitter updates. Instead they choose to spend resources on going to expensive old-fashioned gaming shows. -

And some of the games followed the mantra for years, ending up being cancelled or producing only mediocre results, see Duke Nukem Forever. So its no indication of eventual success. There is a reason why we have deadlines even in creative professions, in fact people who follow the "its done when it's done" method rarely actually get anything done. -

It's not funny anymore, and to be honest this mantra is very unprofessional.. Surely he does not reply like this to his BiS managers, so why do the fans (actually customers, Im pretty sure almost everyone here bought Arma2) have to suffer it? :(
