Something really fishy is going on for sure. When Rocket came back at the end of May he literally said progress on netcode was beyond his wildest expectations. Now we are still sitting here empty-handed half a year later. What happened?

+1 I'm a senior developer myself and saw the disaster associated with making an inexperienced person a PM a mile away. BI is to blame for this really, they shoved the SA project into a dark corner fed with whatever lefovers they had from their Arma III flagship project. Seriously if my mod/app achieved that level of access with 0 marketing I'd go to any length to secure every bit of funding possible from every source to hire an experienced well staffed team. -

Yes, a likely scenario. I hope he finds strength to admit the idea of making the game available a s a rolling release alpha was a mistake all along because offering a playable expirience relies on all parts working perfectly together. -

Rocket is also known to go into hiding before resurfacing with bad news. October announcement will be about how the game is not playable in the current state and that he doesn't feel he can charge money for something that does not offer a working multi-player experience. There will also be technical details on how another major part of the engine/dayz script need to be ripped-out and re-written. -

I saw this coming back in March :( http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/127518-dayz-developer-blog-8th-march/?view=findpost&p=1251410 All kinds of problems with project management, funding and under staffing. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
ZlobaRUS54 replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
NSA knows and the guy who tried to leak the release date is holed up at the Moscow International airport transit-zone, or so we are lead to believe. -
Feature lock is for beta generally, for the alpha they had one main goal that new client-server architecture is stable enough for public launch, additional minor goal is ensuring some minimal level of content and the very core mechanics implemented so the game is playable, if stripped at launch (since ppl will be paying for it). Rocket claims first target was achieved and "beyond their wildest expectations".

Better get start getting used to this. In SA loot will be very limited (there could be only 1 can of coke in the entire hive according to Dean) and most importanlty will not re-spawn. The gameplay will be much closer to "This is how you died" of Project Zomboid

E3 Expo - June 2013 - Interviews and Gameplay

I think you should take your own advice bro. Rocket is on record saying how his team does not have money for this or that. They are not able to implement better animations because they cannot afford Euphoria engine, they chose to skip lots of polish and features because they have too few people to concentrate on anything but basics. I also know that Arma 3 is Bohemias flagship product and around the time DayZ mod polularity suddenly skyrocketed their baby was in trouble, if you followed Arma 3 development, you would know Arma 3 alpha was supposed to be released in February 2012, deadlines were slipping. Now try to guess where funds from unexpected boost in Arma 2 sales were diverted to? Not DayZ:SA project from the looks of it. But at least Arma 3 is looking good now. -

WoW is not mainstream, for once it requires a PC to play and PC gaming is long past "mainstream". Secondly it's anything but a casual game, an average WoW player invest a ridiculous amount of time into development of his character. The SA as MMO is straight from the horse's mouth, Rocket repeats it in pretty much every interview. -

WoW is not mainstream, Farmville is mainstream. Look the mod got almost 2 million players with no development or marketing budget. With a little push 10 million people playing MMO SA is entirely possible. That is how many players WoW got. -
He should have shown the Big Rigs gameplay for maximum effect :)

Yeah, I knew it would be the case and even predicted about 2 months ago but was still hoping for a miracle. Pretty much every part of the game, zombies, models, animations, weapons, crafting, interface, vehicles, loot is in very early stages or have not been worked on yet. The team is really short on resources, shame on you Bohemia, it was your chance to make it really big, like Blizzard/WoW huge., I guess tried and true Arma took priority and SA was shoved into a dark basement room with minimal resources. -

So it's "weeks or months" for public alpha release now according to the video.... -

If Bohemia is like any other IT company I've worked at, games sales revenue goes into general company coffers first, and it's up to PM to request financial to allocate funds for his project. And I fail to follow your logic on how 30-40 mil USD and complete creative freedom would be an obstacle to SA? O_o Don't get me wrong , it's 20/20 hindsight, I'm sure back last August it seemed like an awesome idea that Bohemia agreed to pick up SA, especially given rather modest initial scope of the project, but I feel that now with goals having been redefined lack of funding has become a problem for Rocket's team. -

Somebody must make "Hitler reacts to Dayz:SA E3 footage" video... So much fail. -
My biggest disappointment is that they have removed the iron sights and just replaced it with a gamey crosshair :(

There is definitely progress and as long as Rocket preserves and enhances that special magic mix of fear, anxiety survival and combat the game will be successfull even if it will never look as polished as AAA titles. But one thing still bothers me, Rocket talks about how they do not have funds for 3rd-party tools or time to implement better tech [because of lack of resources]. I wonder if Rocket was wrong to go with Bohemia which seem to be treating SA as a low-budget side-project, maybe he should have gone with Kickstarter to fund the game, in the it's heyday the mod could have gathered a truly obscene amount of money, enough to send Rocket to the Moon for two months and still have left over to license any engine/tools and complete creative freedom. A project I just sponsored ( http://www.kickstart...iance-flashback ) collected almost 400K from 7 thousand people, imagine what DayZ could have got from hundreds of thousands! -

What the E3 footage shows that underneath it all internally it's still some script code running as a mission for Arma. -
I think it's to sync Mod with the pending SA release, Dean said that loot will be really scarce in SA, like all the buildings had already been gutted, there could be only one can of beans in the whole Cherno and it will be guarded by 2000 zombies who can now run in-doors. I for once happy that DayZ is returning to it's hardcore PvE survival roots.

DayZ StandAlone PreAlpha Leaked Version (Really ?)

I doubt that the real E3 version will freeze every 3 seconds like the the YouTube video of E3 "Alpha" I just watched. -
Dayz SA only 150 People allowed in Open alpha? is it true?
ZlobaRUS54 replied to NozRee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Exactly my point. This is what "dedication" actually means, maybe you have more important things in life, I'm not here to pass moral judgement and expect same in return. But it still means you are nor dedicated enough, nothing wrong with that, just IMHO "people with more important things in life" should not be on the initial alpha players list. -

Having a high-end PC shows dedication to PC gaming, so +1 for initial SA release hardware check. As a bonus high-end PC generally indicates income and a level of maturity, so there will be less whining from 12 y/o. -
I'm betting right after E3, possibly even simultaneously. I do feel somewhat butturt that E3 elite gets to play it first and not the ordinary guys who made Mod a success and SA possible. Remember, the Mod grew because of word of mouth not because Rocket sold it to marketing types at E3.
