Bandits don't get punished, Survivors do...

Maybe your friends should meet you half way instead of saying "yeah we'll meet you at the PVP hot zone of the NW AF".
  2. It's really sad that we have to harp on grouping up. Look guys, this isn't BF or COD, it isn't designed for singleplayer on any level. ArmA is a terrible game unless you play with other people. Day Z is the first mod to make any sort of Lone-Wolf play style viable, but it comes with a high chance of death. The more people you travel with the better off you are. I can live for hours and hours and hours when I play with my guys, but when I'm all alone it's a crap shoot. Why hasn't this sunk in yet? Make some friends in game or bring friends from outside the game to the game!

    Pending Build Progess: 1.5.9

Nooooooooooooo, change loot spawns to give better loot at all airfields please. Any progress on the dog?
  4. And I'll say it again. I've been shot far more times by Survivors than bandits. Like ten times more. What good was the skin?

    Disconnectors

What original arma multiplayer mod? Do you mean just multiplayer in the game before DayZ? It's funny that you should ask that' date=' because it's a good indication of the vastly different playerbase that DayZ has brought to this game. Before DayZ, players like this who exploited the game simply weren't a problem. They didn't exist, aside from the odd hacker. The most popular multiplayer matches were within mature communities on well moderated servers. Disconnecting in a PvP game to avoid dying was simply unheard of. It's also pointless, since you don't have persistent gear like in DayZ. That's really the only motivation for DayZ players; you have gear you don't want to lose. So, yeah, this isn't/wasn't a problem outside of DayZ. [/quote'] Haha, so true. What's the point of DCing in a firefight when the point is to fight or die trying because your team needs you to not be an asshat? I'll admit I've DCed though, but only against Zombies a couple times and after I ran out of ammo and they couldn't get to me which is gay. I figure there is no reason for me to commit suicide just so I can feel good about never DCing. It's still just a game and you shouldn't have baggage after you stop playing. As for DCing in a firefight? Really man, come on, at least try to run away and then DC. I've laid out a couple times how I think we can fix this, but it's kinda hard to implement, but I think it's a better suggestion than other ones I've read like "No, no one gets to DC for 10 minutes" or "You can DC but you lose half your gear". My idea: You can hit abort but then a timer pops up for 15 seconds (make it more if you feel the need). If you are bleeding or have a broken bone then you can't DC until you stop the bleeding/mend your bone. After you fix yourself up you can hit abort and the timer will start. I say this because some people that are all SUPER PVP oriented think that once you spot a guy and then shoot at him that you are some how entitled to X amount of time to kill him. I say, "No, you should make that first shot count to at least break a leg or make him bleed". To fix a broken bone or bleeding, a character has to go to one knee and it takes a while to patch up. Any sniper or aggressor worth a damn should be able to finish a target off rather easily if they are defenseless and on one knee. I think the total DC system needs to be less than a minute and a half even with maximum injuries to patch up. No one wants to sit at a count down timer for 10 minutes or even 5 minutes just because they have to go take a dump or have shit to do. As for Alt-F4. Honestly, this is just dirty, and I know people with bad internet may object, but I think people doing Alt-F4 outnumber the people with bad internet (oh btw, find a server with a decent ping). If you DC with Alt-F4 or unplugging your connection then yeah, you need to sit out for 30 mins. Sucks for people with bad internet, but to be fair I don't want you dragging servers down anyway. Most people with poor connections just lose connection to the server, not the internet. I dunno, maybe there is a way to see if a player is connected to ArmA and not just the internet. If they Alt-F4 out of ArmA or lose connection to the main server by dropping internet connection then they get the 30 minute wait time. I think just implementing the timer system I laid out would solve most of the problems.
  6. Yeah you can shoot a soldier Zed with an AKM and he'll go down. I had an AKM once, it was glorious but loud, then I stuck in bugland and I can't leave.
  7. Shit doesn't work for me, but hey I live just down the road from Silicone Valley............. sub 150ms ping to every server out there. It's always daylight for me! I love my New Zealand servers at 7 am (NZ time) when it's just me and some Kiwi who just woke up.

    Stop saying "Leeroy Enfield"

People in World at War used to pronounce "Gewehr" as "Goo-er".
  9. Do you know who Dr. Wasteland is? He made his own story, he didn't need a Dev to build it for him. Why should I get a bonus for doing something so many times? If I say I'm a doctor and I want to help people then I'm going to do it, and in my head I'm a damn good doctor. So I'm going to load up on bandages and meds and set about my work. For me personally? I'm from a military background and I play with a platoon of guys (see sig). I'm a team leader, I don't have a specific role other than telling other people how to not die and how to move on an objective. We have a medic, we have designated snipers, we have designated looters and when the building system isn't shit and college ends for most of my guys we will set about building. You don't need leveling or perks, you just need the will to be good at an aspect of the game and strive to accomplish your own goals.

    CoD Zombie Mode!

Do you have any friends that play Day Z? Maybe you should find/make some. It's a lot easier and a much more fun experience. No one is making you go into Free-For-All.

Day Z amazing, Arma II poor interface

Mouse wheel and key mapping. Hard isn't it?
  12. The only problem I have with this is that there are only a couple of ways of doing it in ArmA. A: Have predefined players slots in servers for each class, which means when one class fills up people will come on here and bitch because there aren't enough slots for their preference. B: There is a gear menu that you can choose from before you launch the mission (at least in COOP missions) but this gear menu is total and complete shit and most mission builders opt for just putting ammo crates down where the mission begins.
  13. The running is a flaw that can be fixed with ACE (if ever added). First aid........ eh I don't think it should be so easy, I'd rather it take longer and most wounds should require help from someone who takes time to learn a system.... like you guessed it ACE! Also have you seen the way people shoot? Experts not at all. I would rather see flat tires and no oil/gas for the car rather than fixing the whole thing. Helicopters should go away. Btw, who is to say that we the "Survivors" aren't some sort of expert in at least basic survival, we just have extremely limited means at start. The weak die, the educated and capable live on. That's the point. You may be a software developer who has never gotten away from his PC in years. I on the other hand am a former Marine who likes to camp and tries to pack as light as possible and live off the land and I grew up working on cars and I've taken a Combat Life Saver course and I'm personally just into a lot of different things that have given me a skill set. So just because you would die because you don't think you're qualified to be a survivor doesn't mean I'm not. So I think I would be more or less okay.
  14. It's really hard to tell if you are bitching or just neurotic as hell, but given the majority of people on this forum bitch incessantly, I erred on the side of caution.
  15. You need to play on the same server. If everyone was placing wire and it was persistent then it would be literally everywhere. Instead of bitching, why don't you tell us how you would implement vehicles and buildings across servers and try to think about the pitfalls before you post those suggestions.
  16. I don't know how anyone is seeing a noob survivor as some sort of expert. You have two cans of beans, a canteen, some basic meds and a shitty pistol that isn't any good beyond 20 yards anyway. You don't start as a survival expert. You have to get the right gear and learn the world. I think it works just fine.
  17. ArmA is the game that will kill other games for you. You can do RTS, RPG, FPS, Tac Sim, and now MMO. Is ArmA clunky....... yes, but seriously, vanilla isn't that bad, people are just lazy because they are used to BF3 or COD where you only need like 12 functions. It's not like ArmA has a million, you seriously only need your mouse wheel and like 10 mapped keys. I think the scrolling through freaks people out for some reason. Add in ACE and you just get a second menu which is just like the vanilla one to use, but you need 2 mapped keys to use the ACE menus. 2!!! How hard is that? Are the animations good? No, it doesn't even have PhysX. Does it look as polished as BF3? No, but it's also like 100 times the size and has a huge modding community. Is the sound shit? Yeah it's awful, but we have mods for it. Graphics? Not bad if you have a boss system, also don't like the explosions....... got a mod for that too. Bottom line, what I tell people: "If you've ever played a real flight sim like IL2 or DCS, you know buttons are a pain, ArmA is nowhere near as bad as a high end CFS, but it's still not for lazy people". Btw, all the horror stories about the bugs in ArmA 2 are true. But they fixed almost all of them in Operation Arrowhead, and the latest patches have fixed the super-AI that used to be able to snipe you with an old AK at 600m with iron sights while you were behind a tree. ArmA 2 Combined Operations is a great game, but don't play solo. The best is having a group of players to play with. The Single play is all about controlling the AI, which is still kinda of clunky. The best advice I can give you for that is don't tell groups to go somewhere or do something. Select individual units and you'll avoid traffic jams and general AI idiocy.
  18. If you want a safe zone then make it yourself. You want leveling up? You have it, it's the days alive count. Sorry you don't get a perk. Want to trade? Welcome to the world of drug deals. We've already taken a world of fear in the game and made it worse from paranoia. You gotta have something I want, and I gotta have something you want and we both have to trust each other enough to complete a transaction and then GTFO. Right now there isn't enough scarcity. I'm hoping colds become deadly and antibiotics are worth more than all the beans in the world.

    Balota Airstrip Loot Question

Found AKM + 3 Mags, and I also found an empty AK74 both at Balota. Check under the stairs in control towers. All in all I'm not that impressed with Balota, lots of tin cans and Makarov ammo.
  20. Where was I: Most southwesterly apartment building in Chernogorsk What was I doing: Trying to play since I keep having the respawn with the hourglass and blood loss What version: 1.5.8.2 What server: NZ3 What was going on before/after: I've posted in a couple threads here. I turned bandit for some reason and I kept losing my stuff on reload. Anyway, I took a screenshot. The guy on the the left looks a lot like my character from 2 days ago when I died in the north firehouse in Elektro. The guy in the middle is my character when I was at Balota and I had an AKM, but he doesn't have his AKM anymore. The guy on the right is my last character who had an AK74 with no ammo and I dropped my backpack. The current character I have is a fresh noob bandit with 2510 blood. http://s200.photobucket.com/albums/aa202/jrs2993/?action=view&current=vlcsnap-2012-05-23-22h44m31s17.png
