If you're sure it was a gas mask, check the updated loot tables (I have no idea where). If it's in the loot table then it's cool, if not, then it's a hack.

I haven't played in over a week maybe even two because the mod got really boring and repetitive. So I'm sure my 2 weeks of life all while offline are skewing the figures.

It's funny to me because this would never happen in a normal ArmA server so I doubt BIS really focused on anti-hacking measures.

I'm convinced most Day Z players are just camping anyway to horde beans so I would love to see an entire server die at once. Lose your shit?
