One of the things i like the most about this game is that everybody is an equal when you start out so i dont reall like the background idea. My suggestions are based on stuff probably anyone can make in real life. And it seems really odd to me that the most useful survival item in real life(the knife) is so underused in this game.
It would be really nice if we could make simple items that helps you in the beginning of our lives. Sharpened stick Materials: a stick (cut from a tree or found on the ground i the woods maybe?) and a hunting knife Use: A longer range melee weapon and/or javelin Better spear Materials: a hunting knife, duct tape(found in towns/industrial areas?) and a stick Use: a knife taped to a stick. Higer damage than a sharpened stick but harder to find materials for and you cant throw it. Homemade tent/shelter Materials: 4x sticks and a tarp(found in towns/industrial locations maybe?) Use: As a normal tent with less space.
The first other player i ever saw opend fire on me with a makarov (this was back when we got a gun om spawn), I in turn returnd fire and got an extremely lucky headshot but I was to badly injured an bled to death with a broken leg.
This would surely make water a more vailid source of hydration, right now soda cans are often the better solution because the are so plentyful because you dont want to lug around an empty water bottle to find a water source. And you wont have to carry that many packs of painkillers thus saving you valuable inventoryspace.
