Ive had instances myself where I kill a guy and his body disapears before I can loot and still hear the flies. I think its a case of logging out superfast during the death maybe. It has happened a few times I have seen though. Bodies usually persists for a while normally not a matter of minutes.

There are a few different spawn points in the game, just keep hitting respawn till you randomly get a closer one. They are all along the coast as well. Beware of the server rules though. Some servers kick or ban for excessive respawning.

Can I play this game with non-steam users?
schwifty replied to Doyle McPoyle's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes in many different ways, even if you had Arma 2 retail and the expansions from steam there are still ways to make it work. If you use Six Updater to launch and keep your mods up to date you dont even need to go through steam yourself. Six will ask you to point it to the .exe's for Arma 2 and Arma 2 operation arrowhead, then from there you can keep DayZ up to date and launch the game to a server straight from your desk top. -
I'm running full tilt with decent framerate on: X4 965 BE ATI 6950 8gigs So yes, your set up should do it.

will dayz work well on my non gaming laptop?
schwifty replied to iwhiteywood's topic in New Player Discussion
Arma 2 will not run well on ANY laptop. Maybe some newer gaming laptops would be able run it on super low graphic settings but it will be choppy and probably cause some heat from the internal 3d accellerator. As far as I know. (my gaming laptop is older and arma 2 gives me about .5 frames per second) I used to run Arma 2 CO on a pretty old gaming rig with a pentium 2 DUO extreme and a ATI 2900HD video card. So you should be able to put together a pretty cheap desktop that can run it. One of the main issues with laptops is putting more voltage through the CPU and GPU to process games like this faster creates more heat, and there isnt room for decent sized cooling in a laptop. -
1. I've seen tents around there and raided them myself on a few servers. 2. Good camping spots are in low traffic areas. What you want to avoid is: -the very edge of the map -fresh water sources (ponds) -anywhere that is directly between 2 cities I usually go big forests 1 to 3 kms form the map edgethat have alot of the evergreens with branches right to the ground. 3. No but when you die and respawn it tells you where you are in the bottom right of your screen. If you hit esc and then respawn you can keep doing that until you are all in the same spot or a place you like (some servers kick or ban for this). 4. Cherno is a great place to start!!! In the North West of town just across from the factories there are 5 multi-story appartment buildings full of gear, food, pistols, non-military riffles, camo clothing, maps, compasses, watches can all spawn there. Also there is a hospital on the smae block aswell to get all the morphine, bandages, bloodbags. Also just to the south east a block there is a military medical area where anitbiotics spawn for those cold nights without a heatpack. Further in town you will find alot of pubs and cafe's that are 2 stories and full of the same kind of gear as the appartments only with more food usually. To become more self sufficient you want to find matches, hatchet, hunting knife (all u need to kill game and cook it), and cantine's which can be refilled at ponds. Straight south of the hospital is a fire house with a supermarket farther west, great loot spots aswell. I usually go in at night with my gama cranked, kneeling at a walking pace or even crawling to avoid zombies.

Post processing effects will turn off motion blur, AA and AS cranked will also make things pretty fuzzy. I had an issue with this in another bohemia game, Take on Helicopters (same game engine), where when I entered the game it was fine, soon as I tried to adjust video options everything would go super blurry and stay that way no matter what I did. Could try updating video drivers.

Agree, us at the 9th were thinking a good way would be a splint and morphine. Make a splint with wood if you have a hatchet. After splinting you can move at half speed and get the pain shakes until you use morphine. This way if your leg breaks 5 km's from a hospital your survival outlook is a little better but requires the player find a hatchet and morphine to completely fix the leg. Better survival rate (if you dont have to drag your broken body into barns to find a hatchet and out again), more work.

Tazer and zipties!!.. they are already in certain other mods for the game, so it is possible!
-
None of the above. Let DayZ servers run the ACRE mod (advanced combat radio environment) or ask Jaynus about adding it right into DayZ!!!
-
Go play COD then? Who cares as long as the enemy cant see you.
-
They need to partner with the Ace mod team to add in more in depth scope adjustments that dont instantly tell you the number of meters the adjustment allows, also windage adjustments and wind meters. I think the DayZ dev's and the ACE and ACRE dev's should have a lunch meeting myself. Seperately they are awesome, together they could be pretty epic.

Yep, once the snow is added to every texture required and the map is remade it will make the mod alot larger of a download aswell. There might already be a winter version of Chernarus already available to the community somewhere on Armaholic.com but then the dev's might need permissions to use it for this mod and such. Then they have to change everything in the mission file that refers to the map name to the new map name.
-
To do this in the arma 2 engine I think they would have to do it in a weather patch every 3 months to change it. I dont think it would automatically change itself every 3 months. Also to get snow on the ground they would have to retexture the map and trees to add snow which would make for some giant patches because the retextured map would be a whole new map file. That isnt to say I dont like the idea though!! I think playing in the winter would be awesome. People would be trading assault riffles to get heat packs after a while (not really, heat packs are pretty common).

Grouping Idea!!! This is possible and grouping is what I was going to suggest. In missions like Domination for arma 2 you can go to a certain building that is coded to allow players to join groups. Once a player creates a group others can join it (obviously a system like zargabad life or island life would be better) in the Life missions you can create a gang and allow people to join or not. A password system could be coded in too so you need a password to join the group. For the people who play on veteran, once you are in a group it changes your skin to one of the multitude available in Arma 2: CO so everyone in that group is wearing the same outfit and every group has a different uniform from eachother.. This would be because in Veteran difficulty you dont have hud markers to tell you where or who your other group members are. Last night we raided Stary Sobor 12 deep, after a while of staying disciplined other players wandered in and it got chaotic. This group idea would help identify friend from foe. Since its harder in game to tell than it would be in real life, obviously there would be more outfits in a zombie apacalypse than there are player skins in DayZ.

Killing Zombies with Vehicles counts towards overall zed kills
schwifty replied to TractorFiend's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is an issue with Arma 2 itself, and not DayZ. Playing Arma 2: CO multiplayer or any other mod, running people or AI over doesnt count toward a players kill count or score. -
Updated to 1.7.2.2...now Wait for Host
schwifty replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yes, and you didn't buy this game. You bought Arma 2: Combined Operations which works just fine. The mod you are having trouble with is still in alpha phase, that comes before beta..... Basically meaning it is not close to being a finished product. Thought I do love how DayZ brought a ton of new players to Arma 2, and I love running into these new players in DayZ, it's pretty much like christmas everytime I come across them. Sucks I can't play DayZ on friday the 13th. Might attempt the roll back, just hope 1.7.2.3 comes without any issues.
