'OP' Guns and the Future of Dayz
_Gunslinger_ replied to tarquinbb's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think once duping and mag refills have been fixed, you'll find .50cal rifles ditched on the roadside because most of the derphards that use them don't put the effort into finding ammo; they steal one gun and some mags from somebody's tent, and dupe the ever-loving shit out of it. -
What items elude you so far?
_Gunslinger_ replied to teteiyusu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've found and currently use plenty of rare weapons (mk 48, SVD camo, Bizon PP-19 etc), but for some reason the M24 and GPS continue to bloody elude me, I've only ever found each once. Your best bet to find rare weapons/items is to go raid tent cities. Always plenty of spare NVG's/RF's and ammo to be nabbed. -
1 makarov shot brings down a helicopter...
_Gunslinger_ replied to Tersidre's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dunno, the story is crazy but almost plausible. Mostly it's the pilot's fault for one; not noticing he was bleeding to death and two; letting his heli get in range of a makarov. That kind of stupid is pretty common in DayZ. -
Duping and loot cycling are both reason why the AS50 is in such wide circulation. Camps will often have at least one as a backup. It's popular since it's actually very quiet for a .50, and is a guaranteed one-shot kill. The TWS version is pure hack and utterly abominable. Nothing is safe from its gaze.

Which patch are you talking about? 1.7.2.5 hasn't dropped yet, and 1.7.2.4 has been out for at least ten days if memory serves. What weapon are you using? I've noticed some weapons have absolutely shocking variance, primary among them the M9SD. Other weapons like the Winchester 1866 fly straight and true; you only have to account for (significant) bullet drop. EDIT: a lot of weapons have variance built into the sight. For example, the M1911 and the Bizon PP-19 both have fairly broad sights. You can expect the bullet to hit somewhere between the edges of that sight when within the weapon's effective range, so try and fill as much of it as possible with zombie head.

RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
_Gunslinger_ replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Something that I think I should stress right here and now is that 'private' servers =/= password locked. Private is becoming something of a buzzword for non-hive servers, and absolutely anybody is welcome to join it. It's not some closed-off community in a bubble in most cases. Hackers can still get in, but are usually banned in short order. Server-hoppers and ghosters are crippled, and everybody else gets to enjoy the game just the same as before. -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
_Gunslinger_ replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
See, the stupid thing is I'm in an almost inversion of the mentality surrounding non-hive characters. My Hive character runs around with midrange gear and doesn't give a single shit, because I'm going to end up dead at the hands of a hacker within 3 days. Meanwhile my non-hive character plays much more cautiously; I feel more in control of the situation because I'm not paranoid about being ghosted, and non-hive admins can actually hand out goddamn bans to hackers. -
Clan vs Clan PVP Competition
_Gunslinger_ replied to Timmymachine109 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My teammates and I (we're not exactly a clan) had a little 2v2v2v2 throwdown in the Elektro industrial area last night. Had a slow start because some derphard with a Lee Enfield ambushed us (fair play to him) and then tried ghosting us (not so cool). Once we got going it was a blast, mostly because we had an odd assortment of weapons; an AKM, FN FAL, various M4 variants, and my monster of a Mk48. -

_Gunslinger_ replied to ISVenom's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The situation sounds crazy but not entirely impossible; zipping down the ladder may have been desynch, and covering 1km in a couple of minutes is possible. Video will provide answers on whether the time between spotting him on the ladder and appearing behind you are unreasonable. FYI; players will have the 'sniper' tag whenever they wear a ghillie suit, and 'rifleman' when wearing camo clothing, regardless of armament. -
They're just doing a different kind of fishing...

As long as I didn't hack it in right?
_Gunslinger_ replied to Flex Plexico's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That has been on my mind a lot lately... -
I died to zombies for the first time in months last night. I also ran a Mk48 dry doing so. Audible range on weapons appears to have effectively tripled. Makarovs pull aggro from 200m+, and sniper rifles and MMG's basically pull aggro on everything. Combined with the lightning respawn times, it becomes an endless tide, perpetually aggro'd. I got overwhelmed in a little backwater villiage, and had the privilege of seeing someone fire a Winchester 1866 within Elektro. It was like watching Left 4 Dead
-
Zombies also have bat-hearing. Myself and another player were aware of the super-hearing and were leading zeds well out of town before shooting them. We somehow managed to pull aggro at ~200m by firing a makarov! I made the mistake of firing my Mk48 (normally 180m audible range) and aggro'd every single zombie in that goddamn town.

As long as I didn't hack it in right?
_Gunslinger_ replied to Flex Plexico's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I make a habit of screencapping and reporting any player I see with non-DayZ weapons. BE may not ban you since you didn't use a script to find that weapon (and let's be honest, the hacking clusterfuck of late proves how terrible BE is at detecting scripts), but the devs follow up cheating reports. People keep hammering on about "That's not how BE works!!!one!" but you can find yourself banned via other channels. Ones that have a nose for bullshit. -
Winchester or Lee Enfield? [POLL]
_Gunslinger_ replied to Dawn (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Its new audible range is about 164m. It used to be in the mid 200's. This makes it louder than the AKM (150m) but quieter than every other 7mm weapon (sniper rifles, FN FAL and MMG's, 180m) -
Winchester or Lee Enfield? [POLL]
_Gunslinger_ replied to Dawn (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So with the Enfield nerf this comparison got a lot more interesting. -Enfield has less drop-off -Winchester has higher ROF -Enfield is a longer weapon making indoor combat less practical -Winchester has larger ammo slots -Enfield is marginally more powerful -Winchester is marginally quieter (~40m difference in audible range) -
As long as I didn't hack it in right?
_Gunslinger_ replied to Flex Plexico's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ditch it. If somebody finds it on your body, you could find yourself reported and banned. -
I‘ve been having this issue since way back in 1.7.1 Barbed wire and rooftops are the worst offenders. Tweak your graphical settings; some trial and error reduces the instances of artifacts.

Sounds like a simple assumption that bullet damage falls off at range like Arma II -
No Serverhopping? Give us more places with best loot!
_Gunslinger_ replied to Heru's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Two things; People are always going to beat you to the punch. If the new system stops them server hopping, they‘ll just log next to barracks and wait for server resets. Connecting to a server after a restart won‘t throw up red flags. Secondly, there are always going to be hoarders with tent cities. Pretty much all of my gear has been taken from other camps; the best items I‘ve found legit on loot piles was a Coyote backpack and an M249 which I have since traded in for a mk48. My camo clothing was taken from a dead guy‘s pack while they were bugged. If you‘re ballsy you can camp out areas known for server-hopping, and murder them. All of them shoot on sight or DC right out again if trouble starts, so I don‘t feel the tiniest bit like a bandit for doing it. -
Winchester or Lee Enfield? [POLL]
_Gunslinger_ replied to Dawn (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No you didn't. Your little Winchester vid proves how terrible a shot you are, even at close range. You use the Enfield because the one hit out of four shots needs to count. For most players it's moot point at that range, the other player is dead. If you'd posted a video of a 300m+ kill with the Enfield, and asked the Winchester fans to do likewise, this would be a different story. But to post a ham-fisted ambush at close range and claim that somehow proves the Enfield's superiority... just no. -
I know it's an ARMA II patch but it's likely because of you derphards that keep going all Leroy Jenkins in the major cities. Gonna be a bit harder now, isn't it? I have a pre-patch M1911 that still one-shots zombies; it's pretty much the only piece of gear I've managed to keep ahold of.

vehicles full of gear disapear
_Gunslinger_ replied to Al3nt3jan0's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It doesn't matter what people say in this thread. Al3nt3jan0 is convinced his vehicle was in-freaking-visible, and wants validation from other players that he lost the vehicle to a bug, not because he did a shitty job of hiding it. The closest you will get to 'losing' a vehicle to a bug is when the server itself crashes. Vehicle location data only seems to be saved every time a player enters or leaves the vehicle. If the server crashed while you were driving it, you will log in exactly where the server crashed, and the vehicle will be back where a player last entered/exited it. Which could be on the other side of Chernarus. However in your situation, where you left the vehicle and it was gone when you came back; you just plain got robbed. -
Probably the best you could hope for is to redeem your ARMA II CD key for a discount on DayZ.

Winchester or Lee Enfield? [POLL]
_Gunslinger_ replied to Dawn (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Seriously? You could have headshotted both players with the Winchester at that range. The fact that you rely on a 1-hit-cripple weapon in that situation speaks volumes of your skill.
