People accusing me of fooling with my RAIN settings(VIDEO)
_Gunslinger_ replied to preparationh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Intermittent rain like that looks like a visual bug. If you messed with your files one would think you'd disable rain completely. -
Look at your inventory. Much like the Ghillie suit, your backpack is invisible but still in your inventory. If your pack is being reverted back to a Coyote Patrol Pack, that's a general bug related to skin changes.
-
Can you get banned for using a custom skin?
_Gunslinger_ replied to Dariooo's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm currently using a skin with camouflage facepaint, it helps dramatically when wearing Camo Clothing, and even my hands aren't as visible when wearing a Ghillie suit. It's in the ARMA II base files and is really no more of an exploit that using a black guy skin to make yourself less visible. Not exactly. It only changes the appearance of your head and forearms, your silhouette is still fully visible and even with a zombie skin (right there in the profile menu) you have a cap, backpack and pouches to distinguish you from zeds. -
Just found a m249 SAW, rangefinder and a gps.
_Gunslinger_ replied to ProGamerGov's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
M249 is a great gun, but be aware of a few things: -Spray-tastic. Even in 3-5 round bursts, your aim gets knocked back quite a bit, and at longer ranges you'll see horizontal drift. -Short range: Effective range is 300m, 350m if you can walk your shots. Be aware you'll be out-ranged by pretty much everyone with military-grade weapons, but you'll saw them in half at short range. -Work that spray to your advantage. This thing is savage when you have the high ground shooting at prone targets. One decent burst will put a line of bullets right along their body, and will cripple if not kill them outright. -LOUD: 'nuff said. Don't use it for zombie slaying (as tempting as it is) because you'll end up fighting a never-ending tide until you run that massive 200rd box dry. If you can, search for some military choppers (find a sniper to cover you) and look for a Mk48. Range is 400-500m, the 7.62mm round flies straighter, faster and hits harder, and the red dot sight is a beautiful thing to use. The M240 has the same power and range improvements because it also uses 7.62, but has lousy iron sights and is an absolute pig to lug around. Keep the M249 if there's any dillema. I used the M249 for quite a while and learned it's quirks, liked it a lot, and pretty much creamed myself when I found a Mk48. If you've gotten the hang of the M249, you really notice how much nicer the Mk48 is to use. -
My rig chews this game up and spits it out, I was actually expecting to have to tweak my settings because everyone claimed it was a PC-killer. But my point was, if you want to actually help with development, instead of just squawking everything you want fixed, think of the one thing that's most important to you that you want fixed, and suggest that. You may see more noticible results if the dev team are trying to address one issue at a time.

Alot Of Hackers in NZ 18
_Gunslinger_ replied to acutebluesmurf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The NZ servers are a warzone lately. Apparantly they're operating out of NZ 04, and hopping over to attack other servers. -
>Bandit headscarf >Gloats about killing fresh spawns >Shoots from 3rd person >Tries shooting an invisible skript kiddie >Stares at cans in the street with the AWS scope >Starts a flamewar on the forums >14yo virgin twat amercan blah blah blah Look out lads, we got a badass over here.

Want to trade Mountain Dew...
_Gunslinger_ replied to Kells (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
CURSE BUSTED Had a Dew in my pack for five days, SURVIVED a TP hack, defeated ANOTHER hacker (he had some insane Blood level, passed out when I shot him but didn't die when I unloaded my Bizon into him) Dragged his corpse so he couldn't shoot me when he woke up, promptly ragequitted. -
New Invis/Godmode hackers
_Gunslinger_ replied to Skullknight101's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
No offense dude, but if people need a heads up about this, they've been living in a cave for the last couple months. Here's a quick list of what skript kiddies can do (in any combination) Server 'nuke' Player kill (select off a list and poof, they keel over with about a dozen wounds) ESP (brackets/markers around players/loot/zombies/vehicles) Teleportation (both via map and LOS) Noclip Item/vehicle spawning Transmutation (turn themselves/others into animals/zombies/whatever) Invisibility Insanely high Blood (poor-man's Godmode, can still be killed with a headshot) True Godmode Maphacks (viewing players/vehicles/zombies on map) Player teleportation Player gear modification (strip you of weapons, give you an AS50, whatever they like) Plus some creative application of those scripts. Spawn a thousand cows with parachutes and watch everyone stare in amazement as they lag out. Like deer in headlights for a teleport kill or whatever they want to do with you. -
The NZ servers have a disproportionately large hacker population, at least now we know where they're based.

To answer the question "If it'll be fixed in standalone, why not in mod?" basically because Rocket doesn't have access to the engine itself with DayZmod, he tricks the game into doing his bidding with a lot of very complicated client-side scripts. That also answers why the game is so easy to hack; modify those scripts and give yourself a backdoor. So in a nutshell, Rocket has done pretty much everything he can with DayZmod, but there are some things that just aren't going to work in such a spit-and-tape setup. If reading/uploading data to the Hive is a function of the engine itself, rather than a scripted-in afterthought, you are going to see a dramatic improvement in reliability. Ergo, standalone.
-
Your gaming rig doesn't make graphics a priority for Rocket. Honestly, you people. It's like a thousand-rope game of Tug-O-War, with Rocket in the middle. "Fix the build!" "Add more stuff!" "Stop the hackers!" "Make the game prettier!"
-
Considering we have satchel charges, 7.62mm MMG's and .50cal sniper rifles, I think the game would actually benefit from a street-sweeper. That said, I'd love to see some more low-tier civilian weapons. Saiga .223, SKS, basically unscoped hunting rifles of various calibers.
-
This mechanic is already in place somewhat; a wounding hit from bigger rifles tends to incapacitate a player in a single hit, and they will be left passed out and bleeding.
-
Considering that hand grenades are relatively common, this doesn't seem like such a crazy idea. Actually, kicking off this train of thought, I'd love to be able to attach flares to bolts so I can airburst/illuminate things at range. If you wanted to go nuts you could make it an incendiary weapon!

Read the thread. Since the Arma III engine is largely a ramped-up version of the previous engine, most of the features are backwards compatible. DayZ is using a hybrid engine colloquially known as 2+. Whatever features are particularly useful to DayZ (weapon customization) can be implemented, whilst those that are superfluous eye-candy (DX11 lighting) can be left out. Which isn't to say I'm an authority on what parts of the engine will be implemented, I could have it completely wrong and DayZ will be largely on the Arma II engine but prettier. We'll just have to wait and see.

Is there any humanity in DayZ
_Gunslinger_ replied to Square Milk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I shoot when necessary and I still have a pretty good Humanity score. You learn to read people; what they're armed with, how they're moving. A guy with an AK-74 running down the middle of the street in Elektro is dangerous but avoidable; he's either a dangerously clueless newbie or a fresh spawn with a 'nothing to lose' mentality. If they approach me I'll shoot. The guy with the Winchester 1866 that crouch-walked into the back of a shopping center? He's on his toes, expecting trouble, but he's probably there for loot so I'll leave him be. The enormous .50 cannon that's sticking out of a tree? Show no mercy. -
Here's my 2c on the matter, and it's vaguely addressed towards the players that complain about bugs/hackers and the grumbling that "Rocket will have to work harder when we pay for the standalone instead of releasing fucked builds" My understanding of DayZ is that it's a spit-and-tape mod slapped together using client-side scripting. That's why it's so easy to hack. It's probably also why it's so horribly buggy. The fact that Rocket managed to get that to (mostly) play nice with the Hive is incredible. He's wrangled client-side scripting to read/upload data to a remote server for one million unique users. You can guarantee that was never within BI's scope when they made the game script-friendly. So my point is this; how do you think he's gonna do with carte-blanche control of an engine?
-
How about removing NVG comatibility on sniper rifles alltogether? The style of NVG's you find are completely incompatible with scopes, and even make sighting up longarms tricky; you have to hold the center lens directly in line with the sights, something that's only really feasible with pistols and SMGs.

You have good gear, are you a bandit???
_Gunslinger_ replied to Dylon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Depending on how you act really. I've found myself more likely to gun down a guy with an axe running around like a maniac, than a player with an AK crawling into a shopping center. For context on 'nice gear' I have an extremely rare SVD Camo. You can get a read on a lot of people, how they move, where they come from; whether they're just trying to avoid getting sniped or setting up their own ambush, and that's what dictates whether I shoot. For example, came upon a heli crash and somebody was already looting it. I spotted the distinctive shape of a DMR on his back and opened fire; I'm not one to take chances. One solid hit through the chest and he immediately takes cover and bandages himself. If he'd drawn the DMR and tried to put eyes on me I'd have finished him off, but he put the heli between himself and I and made a run for it. -

That is... a very good question. +1 -
Broken Legs In Stary - No Morphine
_Gunslinger_ replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Uh yeah, military loot has a chance to spawn morphine and you're sitting on one of the biggest sources of it. -
The golden days of DayZ are over...
_Gunslinger_ replied to -NGR- Larkinto's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I‘m curious about the people who feel nothing when they die. Either they have an ungodly tent city somewhere that dying only means a run to restock, or they only play with garbage-tier items that can be found again in 20mins. Once tent duping is fixed you might actually give a shit about your gear... -
Duping seems to be fixed with the new DaYZ
_Gunslinger_ replied to ramatakahn's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I‘d support a tent/vehicle reset, not so much a character reset. It‘d be an utter shitstorm on the coast, and my TS group has legit gear we‘d be very upset over losing. The issue is with morons that camp Elektro with a duped .50, die twice a day and supply more morons with .50‘s which are duped in turn. Killing the problem at the source has less of an impact on those that earned their gear.
