IMPORTANT: Central Server was Dropped
zanarias replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
This should be obvious, but I don't see it spelled out. Should this actually stop most of the hacking issues? Some? Or is it just some sort of preliminary move? -
20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
zanarias replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES, SORT OF. Good idea, but needs something for high (positive) humanity too. Should not happen when "familiar" with someone. -
20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
zanarias replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
NO People with weapons get free spawn gear (food, bandages, morphine) without threat. Weapons already scarce. Adds nothing to the game (except frustration). -
Why you need a tk penalty. A game is not real life. In a game murder = Fun
zanarias replied to baleur's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your penalty for being a bandit is exposing your position to other bandits whenever you kill someone. If you get shot, it's your fault, simple as that. That's the only thing that makes sense at the end of the world. -
My only question is if ghillie/camo skins work for the female model yet. I vaguely recall you saying they don't in another thread but I don't know if that's already been addressed or what.

Battleye : Kicked by Script Restriction #12
zanarias replied to normandy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This happened to me when I crashed a chopper. There's a chance the dude crashed the chopper and then everyone got kicked instead of just him for some reason, even though it shouldn't happen at all. -
TURNABOUT: You (personally) have decided to quit! You go to somewhere you think is safe! But uh oh, your IRL plans have just been canceled at the last second. Damn, that sucks. You decide to play some more DayZ, but WAIT, you can't because of a really dumb anti-rejoin system! So you wait 15 minutes and rejoin another server, only to find that your spot in game wasn't so secret after all--you've respawned on the coast, with no way to possibly know what you died to or what you are up against if you decide to try and recover your body. ------- You can say that "won't happen" to you, but the fact is that your idea for this is terribly flawed and kind of dumb/childish. A much better solution provided by some other poster awhile ago is that when you logout, you're forced to stay still for 10-20 seconds before it fully logs you out. If you alt-F4 or something your guy is just stranded there for the same amount of time, but that's what you get for force closing. EDIT: And a delay between joining servers is just way too dumb. There's so many reasons you might have to switch that it's not even funny.

I've noticed a pretty significant FPS drop, but still playable.

I was misinformed then, I haven't really played ARMA 2 that much, particularly at night. I was going off posts I've seen before. I hope he at least adjusts it a little.

What's your favorite playstyle/occupation?
zanarias replied to qbert's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Long-range mercy killer. I just don't want people to have to go through the shit I've experienced :(. No but seriously, I tend to set up and snipe for sport. Friends with me will usually loot supplies from them. -
People sigh and whine about people doing this sort of stuff, but they wouldn't be doing it at all if night wasn't stupidly black to the point where it's unfun--there really needs to be a middle ground where it's possible to ~sort of~ see, but difficult without flares/chemlights/NVGs/flashlights. Sadly, it seems more like a problem with the ARMA 2 engine than the mod itself.

Non-bandit server.
zanarias replied to wotdoyoutypehere@aol.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bandit skins will be gone in the next update. There will still be bandits. PROTIP: Bandits are what this game has to offer. What you're experiencing playing right now is what the game is. You just have to figure out how you're going to handle knowing that. There will not be any "non-pvp" servers or the like, probably ever. -
Will familiarity kill this mod?
zanarias replied to Disgraced's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Honestly, this is a really natural progression for players and games both. You'll always have your "power user" group, which is generally more focused on acquiring high-end equipment and doing it efficiently (to use later, of course), and your more casual group which gets fun just out of the experience of playing, regardless of what they have. What it comes down to is just different playstyles, but this isn't really surprising or anything. It's unlikely that it will ruin the game. -
The only thing I take issue with
zanarias replied to WildGunsTomcat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd like particular vehicles to be more available, with requirements ramping up. For example, a motorbike may not need too much to fix; maybe scrap metal and plain fuel. -
Honestly, I only rebinded one key--GPS toggle. I rebound it to Control-Z, because Right-Control-K was just weird as hell. Otherwise, the stock binds are actually pretty good. I'd use a mouse key for TS/Mumble/Ingame voice, but that's about it. One thing that may not be obvious is that you can long-hold right click to zoom in temporarily when you're running around AND when you're in ironsights mode. You don't have to use the keypad + and - keys. That actually was something that wasn't obvious to me for awhile. EDIT: Don't try and remove any binds. I can guarantee that every bound key will be used at some point or another, even if it's just for a little bit.

Flashlights and why you should start with them
zanarias replied to TheHappyPeanut's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the OP has a good point. Newcomers already start out at a significant disadvantage compared to others, and while I'm mostly against making things more "casual," this isn't going to break anything and will alleviate some frustration. Flares have their own separate uses anyway. I vote do it. -
Same. Requesting the fixzors.

One time fee. No recurring fees (this is important). Community and official servers. This isn't the type of game that would be worth it subscription wise. If the game is a mod based off ARMA 3, I won't pay more than 20 for it. If it's standalone, I'm willing to pay more.

I don't care about stealing from tents. That makes sense. But you're telling me it's perfectly okay for people to steal vehicles whenever the fuck they want? I think there's a problem here. Apparently the survivors in Dayz are too retarded to take their keys out of the ignition when they decide to disappear for awhile. Put this stuff to user error. Give players the choice to exit the vehicle, and when they exit it they can also take out the keys to stop others from driving the vehicle, or leave them in it. People who come across the vehicle either have to have something like a hotwire kit (posted above) that should take awhile to set up and use to get in the vehicle (without keys), OR they can just leave it be OR blow it up however they see fit. There's even more options too, such as waiting for the group to return to kill the guy for the keys. Not giving players any protection from theft like that is silly, especially when it doesn't make that much sense. Yeah, you can hide it. But if someone finds the vehicle, they shouldn't get a free pass to take it "just because"; if the player who owns it was smart enough to take some precautions, then they should get some extra benefit, especially for something as hard to acquire as that.

All the ones I've come across have worked for me, and in general the wells labeled on the map have operated correctly. I guess YMMV.

They kind of look like this, except they are on a cylindrical base: http://www.offthegridnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Well-pump-300x225.jpg If you have a map, they're also marked with the shape of a fountain.
