More Atmospheric Towns - Places with their own design and character
Recalibar replied to joe_mcentire's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Certainly gives people more inspiration to leave the coastline in my opinion. But then again, I think just adding more enterable buildings is sufficient for what Dayz is going for right now. While it might be nice to see a megacity electro/cherno, more subtle changes are more my style. Blood spatters on walls, notes left behind by former residents/ changing people. Small lore based stuff. Maybe even messages or computer files that talk about the events leading up to Dayz. I'm a little weary of another complete redesign simply because the standalone has already been delayed for so long already. -

Quality over quantity, you say? Imagine one glorious shining city on a hill example of a zombie apocolypse setting. Now imagine it being a murderfest because it's the only place with loot on the entire map. -
Why do peoples actions need to dictate their appearance?

Honestly, the zombie blood could look different. And you could also throw in some fun stuff like increased chance of infections and Etc. -

Killing zombies with melee might logically leave such stains as well. -
SA: trying to change the kill on sight mentality, *without unfair disadvantages to that or any playstyle

I've always hated "safe" stash systems. That's why, for the most part, when I play minecraft, I play on vanilla servers (locking chests are no fun!) Now, if you built stashes and they haven't been looted, you hid your stash well. Tents anyone? (More variation would be nice, however. A rock shaped tent?) -

July Round-up: "I want the alpha" < "I want the alpha to be good"
Recalibar replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Actually, if that's the case, it'll not only reduce server load (Or at least the required bandwidth of the server), but also improve some preformance and reduce lag, on top of inhibiting hackers. Hope I can still snipe across the fields though. A 2km kill is not unrealisic for some people. -

I simply assumed that it referred to the idea that the server wouldn't accept any unusual commands from the client. For example, teleportation or spawning in items. -

Yeah, hackers did ruin the mod. Hopefully at least they can resolve some of the more insane stuff, but I wouldn't count on the elimination of all hacks. Once the client is untrusted, it's still reasonable to expect people to develop ESP and even aimbot. You just won't be turned into a goat or teleported to a thunderdome in the middle of the game. -

Honestly, I hate the argument whenever it's brought up that "Don't hate the game, hate the players." Blaming a problem on the community solves nothing. And trying to change the minds of an entire community without taking some sort of action addressing their concerns is like trying to stop a river by dropping rocks into it. As far as I can see it, the only way to calm the community down would be to: A) Release the standalone. B) Update the Devblog constantly. Hell, even something akin to "The lazer collection 4" In terms of quality would be better than nothing. "Surprise! You asked for it, so here it is!" -Video author "GUYS!!!! its a crap video on purposes! he made it because people where rushing him!" -Top comment -

Ever been killed by a shouldercheck? It's happened to me twice on that mod. We bump into each other and one of us dies. This is a feature that I'd prefer not to be in the Standalone. -

Maybe he ment December 2013, haha. I totally be okay with that, once again, if there was more information on the tumblr. Even simple stuff like "Hey, we squished a bug today where you fall through the ground!" That's all I ask for, myself, but some people are just pushy for a public release, no matter how broken it is. I will say though, some people actually appreciate buggy, crashy games. (Skyrim/Fallout 3/New Vegas, anyone?) I do hate it when people bring up the December deadline though. But I do wish they had stated something before the deadline passed like "Hey, actually, we're going to push the release date back a bit in response to atempting to rewrite the entire engine..." When it comes to game deveopment, all I care about is the goings on of the deveopers. I can draw my own conclusions about when I "expect" the game to be released. I like waiting, myself, and if it's a December 2013 release, I'd be okay with it. Just as long as we're talking about it, rather than keeping the project in the dark. Also, I'd like to thank SmashT and Fraggle for aggregating some of the information and posting up on some of the problems the project has been having. Also for tolerating the pure amount of bullshit that they have to deal with every day revolving the Standalone. Thanks guys. -

Honestly, all I needed to hear in terms of how the alpha is going at the moment. Not that that's a bad thing, glad to hear it's being adressed. I'm all for those simple explanations of what's happening in terms of deveopment and the holdup of any public release. Generally people would be less upset if there was a good reason for it, I figure. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
Recalibar replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The Dayz team just needs a good PR representative. Someone who releases consistent status reports and calms down hype by going on like "Hey, alright, so here are X features you can expect to see within the public alpha build, Y are the features that are not yet implemented and are still in development, and Z is the list of things that we're immediately working on and prioritizing in terms of the next things we're working on. This list also isn't final yada etc." I mean, it's sad but true that people have unrealistic expectations of the alpha simply because the amount of information that people use to make these judgements simply isn't there. I don't expect the initial alpha to be nearly as good as the mod, and I'd (as well as the community) appreciate consistent dev blogs that are transparent, not wishy-washy, and direct to the point of sharing the status of the update. It makes it incredibly easy for people to simply believe that once the engine was replaced, and the crafting/inventory/radios/animations were implemented, that all development halted. If someone were to simply step up and, not talk about "hey, new features!" But instead maybe even road blocks the team is encountering, not only would it be better for the community, it would also improve general discussions about it, and deflate hype without costing sales. -

I'll just leave this here. -
I've done something similar, convinced a band of people to come pick me and a friend up in electro. They drive up with their ural with around 6-7 players in it or something, only for the engine to be shot out by my sniper on the hill. Most of the loot was under what we were looking for or destoryed (at this point we were fully kitted) and the rest was destroyed in the explosion. Both me and him picked off a few people in the town that ran to the rendezvous point, and we spotted another vehicle. Shot the tire out on that one too. Killed both people that boiled out, plus some bambi running up from the beach. That day was a good day, 12+ kills between the two of us.

AS50 TWS. Just checking with you guys so I don't get Banned.
Recalibar replied to lttankor7's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Rocket's rule on this? A bit late the the party, but my "opinion" is that when someone new to the game, or who doesn't log into the forums every 5 minutes finds a gun like this, and blissfully uses it, he shouldn't be penalized. Even if he is using it to farm pvp. The truth about it is that spawned in guns aren't going to be common. At all. Hackers spawn them in. Ok, fine. I'm sure we can all agree that the hackers are the problem. If someone pulls an unbalanced gun off of someone, then good for them. The rarity of ever aquriring something like this well balances the fact that the gun is unbalanced, and should not warrent a ban. Nobody should ever be banned for playing a game normally. -

Looks like you caught the Wait for Host bug too. No solution for it yet, but I did find a server that I seem to be able to connect to.
