  1. Traveling through the northern towns and entered Novo. I knew zombies were far and few between at the moment so I wasn't phased at all when I saw one crossing the road. I took aim with the Blaze, I fired and she dropped. Then all hell broke loose! One from behind I didn't see came at me from the river, 3 more screaming and running at me from the front ...and they were running FAST. I ran up the road to my left with 4 on my ass when I saw another join from the right buildings and they were just meters behind me keeping pace. For the first time since I can't remember, my heart was in my teeth as I now had a total of 7 chasing me down and were not giving up no matter where I ran or tried to lose them. I managed to hide inside a bank of garages and close the door. In they came by 2's and singles and I shot them in turn as best I could with reloading in between. Whilst I managed to drop them without too much trouble, THAT is the Dayz experience I hope will be prominent at final release. Imagine that type of hysteria all over the map and increasingly worse in the cities or larger towns. Mix that with crazed, confused, scared trigger happy survivors. I know the devs are working towards that goal while keeping the frames smooth but we are not there yet. It was just a great feeling to see what Dayz can be even if it was for a brief moment. Cheers

    Persistance

Hi all, I'm noticing on a lot of "persistence" servers that there is persistently nothing left of real value to loot anymore on the servers I play. I kind of like it in a way because it does feel like everybody has scavenged almost everything that was once available and we have to really look hard and get lucky to find anything at all, like a real apocalypse would be. Water is still easy to come by as is the occasional animal or tinned food etc but walk into a supermarket or other buildings and there is nothing at all when there at least used to be a part of a map or maybe some rope or even an apple that I didn't need anyway. Is it possible that survivors are now looting up everything and stashing it somewhere? I have been to military bases before and straight after restarts countless times and have found most doors open and the rooms empty except for maybe some basic ammo rounds 9mm or badly damaged jacket etc. Moving around towns in the middle of nowhere and a lot of the doors are opened and houses empty too now. Are persistent servers exactly that, persistent, meaning that what ever happens before server restart carries on after restart? That would explain the lack of nice loot in the military areas and towns etc if so. If that is indeed the case, that means I should now perhaps keep a an extra eye out for camps or stashes of loot. It also begs the question, new spawns will have one heck of a time now getting hold of more precious loot as other survivors are more than likely hoarding it forcing friendships and working together eventually if they want any more than the basic items.

    Persistance

I have been finding more loot in the last few hours than before, but still finding I'm getting left overs because all the doors are still open on a lot of buildings which tells me either the doors don't reset or someone is not far in front doing what I'm doing.
  4. Hey mate, I posted about this a couple of days ago as it happened to me. That message has come up quite a few times for me in the past week but as others have stated as soon as I see that message (on the first black screen) I hit esc and get out. It did it again 2 days ago but when I logged back in, all my clothes and gear were gone but my character was still there with all his health and in the exact same position. My character is still alive which is what the game is about for me, I can always go find more gear. Note: The server I was on restarted, so when I clicked out I tried to go into another server I stopped that and decided to return to the original server which wasn't up yet. Apart from the count down waiting to get into the server again I noticed that is when the issues started with the resetting to default character started. Don't quote me on this part but I think if you try and change servers too quickly or too much the game might try and reset your character because of that (I don't know the mechanics behind that though). If that happens to me I shut the game down and come back a few hours later and my character will always be there as it was when I left him. Stay alive.
  5. I have managed to keep my character alive since about week 2 of the alpha release and have become somewhat attached to him, we have been through quite the adventure. Knowing how "old" my character is helps apply the challenge to keep him that way as for me it's all about survival. I'm fully aware I shouldn't get attached to a character at this stage of the development but after 6 months it's hard not to. I've avoided death through careful gameplay but there is always a chance that someone else may get the upper hand or the game will get you with a glitch. Sadly the game got me today with a server issue and relieved me of absolutely everything except my character who scraped through and was not reset! So I now enjoy the hunt for new gear and supplies before I get sick or worse and my character lives on for now. The day he does die for whatever reason will be a sad day with a memorial service haha, then I'll do it all again with a fresh one. This is only the second glitch I've experienced since the beginning so I consider myself extremely lucky. I posted this as I've read lately a lot of characters old and new are being wiped and reset completely due to server connection issues and thought It was blind luck to only lose my gear. Stay alive.

    Print out of map?

I'm just giving a shout out for the app Izurvive aswell for ipad/iphone or most smartphones.. It has a variety of maps and a pretty up to date standalone map in normal or satellite mode. You can never get lost with that at your disposal, it shows everything you need to navigate Chernarus. I get that having a real map next to you may feel more realistic and fun but you can't beat the Izurvive app for an easy instant HD map. Depending on how long you have been playing Arma2/Dayz you may already know the map like the back of your hand but there will come a time when it's invaluable. Stay alive.

    M4 ammunition

Hi all, since the last update .46 I have been searching high and low for some stanags or similar for the M4 but I simply cannot find a trace of them anymore. I have searched everywhere that they used to be and can find plenty of side arm ammo and .22 etc but no m4 clips. I have tried a few different servers too. I'm guessing I missed a post on this somewhere perhaps? I can happily use my side arm for ever but thought it was strange that the M4 ammo loot doesn't appear to be spawning at present. Cheers Drewsta

    M4 ammunition

I do believe that the crash sites may have problems not showing for some reason. I have searched endlessly and I am confident I would have come across at least 1 out of 3 sites before a server restart even if I was to just spot it from a distance. I did search for hours over several server restarts as I'm aware the area to cover is a lot bigger now. I'm happy to wait if indeed the sites are broken, I'm still alive on the same character since the very beginning of dayz, I'm in no hurry. Just my thoughts anyways.

    M4 ammunition

Thanks for the info fellas, I can now see that the crash sites are likely to be more dispersed over a wider area than first researched. I today looked in what used to be the most popular 9 areas and didn't come across any crash sites. I'm actually glad that they are even more random now and could be where you least expect them.

My apologies, I can't seem to find 5.56 ammunition at present and just realised about the addition of helicopter crash sites, so disregard thanks. Drewsta

    KOS always!

I've managed to stay alive from just after day1 and still on the one character. Never killed or been killed and luckily avoided death by glitch. I'm not talking about just sitting under a tree in the forest for 100 hours either and considering that a survival milestone. I move around a lot in the 30 + servers but I'm ridiculously careful how I do that. So it's possible to survive without "KOS" but maybe just too boring for the majority perhaps.

    I understand

A lot of people are quick to judge on these forums. So many opinions on different subjects and I believe that can be good for the continued interest and hype. I notice so many posters seem to know how this game is going to fail and that it won't or will no longer amount to a great game. I also remember post after post in the earlier days of how dayz will struggle to make alpha and if it does no one will buy it because Dean has missed his window of opportunity. Not to sound too much like a prick but how many sales were made in the first 2 weeks of the alpha release? The point is I think that some peoples expectations are too high too early and will constantly be disappointed as Dayz progresses. If you are one of them you really need to adjust your expectations a little and grow with the game as it is developed. The lack of disregard for the early access warning before you enter is incredible. It wouldn't matter if they had 4 follow up buttons to click "are you sure", "you really are ok with this" "your positive you understand" etc, people would still just spam the buttons to get in and then find something to complain about. The posts I'm referring to are the ones where people are simply rage complaining about the problems and not contributing anything except filling in a white forum box with rubbish. Disclaimer : The game is in Alpha and WILL be for some time. This could be another 12 months in Alpha. Will you still be around? Disclaimer: This means you WILL experience bugs and unfinished features such as Hacking protection because it's a work in progress and they haven't figured it out yet or are working hard to do so before the final release. Disclaimer: Problematic design decisions and MANY more things that DISRUPT your game experience. These things can certainly cause you to die, fall victim to something unfair etc or randomly make you angry. Disclaimer: The Devs are actively working with you to fix the problems arising. This takes time and announcing problems as they are found is great feedback and the wider community can help bring it to the devs attention quicker this way, hence why they released a really horrible buggy platform to you called "The Alpha". This response can join a long list of responses just like it but it's clear that some people need this broken down in plain English because that "I understand button" to them is a not a message, rather a simple click point to enter the game. So after understanding what the alpha message is promoting I am dumbfounded at the fist shaking and continuous mocking of this game in development. " Massive failure on the devs part" ," they have done nothing", "this game will fail", "biggest buggy piece of crap I have ever seen"....the list goes on. I say to those people, have your tantrum and angry spill just because the game is not where YOU want it to be right now, that is your right. Make no mistake, that is all you are doing and while you may feel slightly better about telling the world how disappointed you are, you could just scream into a pillow rather than waste space on these forums. Search the net for another "Finished" game title that really jumps out at you and become engrossed in that until the Dayz beta release. Perhaps this point may remain mute for many.

"My leg hurts... You are dead!"

I got smashed by a zed the other day and it came up with "my leg hurts"... then something like "I feel pain in my leg", so I took a morphine injection and all was fixed.

Overall opinions on the SA so far?

I agree with you on a few counts Op. I would have liked to see a new map too but truth is people are complaining enough about the current alpha. The time taken to implement a new detailed map could have been way more than we imagined plus at least the current map is a good one. I think players will eventually find that clothes such as fur coats may be your best friend at some stage when the health/sick system is in full swing. Imagine your boots are ruined, your trying to evade someone or something and you character is groaning and moaning loudly, giving away your position plus possibly slow or limping etc. I've never really understood the rotten fruit either, to break morale when your hungry, who knows but probably not real necessary either, unless it does start out pristine and the longer it sits the worse it gets perhaps? Not sure what the infatuation with guns guns and more guns is, each to their own I guess. They are a part of the game and some variety is exciting and I'm sure given time they will implement other types. Focusing on getting the zombies to follow correct paths and not stray through buildings would be a more positive step forward I think, right now that is.

Do bandits really exist on DayZ Standalone?

I personally think people shooting first at others out of fear will soon reduce considerably as interacting longer will be seen as more fun and rewarding. How you interact may not be the friendliest either but the initial "bang bang your dead" for fun will die out somewhat.

    I understand

The quote at the bottom of your post is a valid point I was making. The Devs asked for a little money from individuals who would like to participate in a development which may take some time to come to reality. They didn't ask for unreasonable amounts for a finished product. So that being said "it being in Alpha" is every excuse for "stuff ups", bugs, lags, desync, hackers, broken gear, poor loot decisions etc. I don't think I'm being a white knight personally, I just go on clearly what is fact and told upfront. If you paid $60 plus for a beta product that resembled this state, I'd clearly understand the criticism. I just think there is a clear difference between, " anyone noticed this wrong or that's broken?", "I have an idea for the Devs, could we look at doing this before this or change that for something else perhaps, "I have concerns about the time it's taking to achieve certain goals in the alpha. and... "FFS what the F*@%* are the Devs doing", " I can't even play this laggy piece of s#@!% ", "Why the hell do we have this loot it's a waste" "god this game is such a failure , where the F@#!@ are all the vehicles?" " they just brought out a patch and it's worse than the old one, the devs are not focused on this project anymore" My original post was to perhaps spark some thought and a reminder about what the player is involved in when clicking that button before screaming blue murder at the forums. Not being able to enjoy the features of the game because it's still in development and keeps breaking can be frustrating as hell, but we have no choice except no longer participate and jump back in at beta time.

You are correct no argument here and while my post does also take up space on the forums It's not a continuous rage against the game.

    DayZ is GREAT VALUE

No matter how you look at it , you can't help but smile at this post.
  19. I've just finished playing the new patch after the hotfix on stable and it really was a smooth and fluid experience. Dayz has just become a little more interesting because I'm now looking as hard for zeds as I am for other survivors because they are now are very real threat. You can of course manage them still but it's now a guaranteed shit fight if you get lazy and I'm loving it. Dayz is starting to take on the survival feel again and for the first time since I can recall, players are now just another threat not the ONLY threat. The Zeds seem to have better animations and holy crap they are fast and they can sneak up on you when your not looking too. They also respawn now and although that is still in early stages, it makes for a intense fight at times and you have to plan an escape because they just keep coming! I finished taking a few of them down earlier and ran like buggery to get away and rested in the forest some minutes later. All was quiet and then this military zed screeched from behind a bush and literally jumped on to me and hit me hard. After I spilt my coffee I managed to shoot him without to much trouble and was bleeding after just one hit. It showed me now that anywhere can be a potential threat and makes you feel uneasy which is great fun. I have no doubts that once the zeds are perfected more, players will really start to think twice before blasting away at other survivors out of boredom. I don't think you will ever erase that part of Dayz nor should we but reducing it significantly will have its perks. It started to rain so I right clicked a water bottle in my inventory and spammed the "collect rain" and filled It up which was a nice touch I thought. I tested some of the other things listed in the changelog and they seem to work just fine. Can I just say that for me the last couple off sessions were glitch free and very smooth, I haven't experienced rubber banding yet but I did see a zombie get it a couple of times. Anyways enjoy the madness.

Zombies Ruining Gear in one hit!?!?!?

I've been lucky then too, I have taken a few hits and started to bleed every time but no gear or clothing was ruined. Maybe the next hit would have who knows.

    Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251

I don't think this trend will ever end and these forums good or bad will always help keep Dayz alive. Dayz breaks = I hate this, that's it I'm leaving! Dayz fixed = This is amazing, good work Devs! Dayz breaks = I hate this, what the hell are the Devs doing? Dayz fixed = This is amazing, good work Devs! Dayz breaks = I hate this, that's it I'm leaving! This may be a useless post but I'm sure I've seen opposing threads just like that from the same people within days of each other.

    Unplayable?

Just jumped off a couple of different servers from being on both an hour with the new update. I was getting hits from Zeds I couldn't see because of serious lag. I would open a door and it wouldn't open for about 30 seconds that sort of thing. Looks like a few things to iron out on this one so I'll check back from time to time and look for updates. Looks like you are all aware of this by now but thought I'd post it anyways.
  23. Before you all tell me this game is in Alpha....I know it's in Alpha, I know it's in a test and report phase, I know that it's going to have bugs, I know it may take a lot longer to fix than we all want, I know that it's in Alpha, I know that the game mechanics are buggy, I know that it's in Alpha, I know that I accept that it's in Alpha before gameplay. Now before you tell me not to cross this busy highway with a blindfold on.... Before you tell me that drinking this rat poison is toxic...... My lordy you guys! It never ends in these forums does it. It is a little amusing to read some of these you have to admit.
  24. Dayz will go on with or with out you and you know you will be back, your curiosity will get the better of you.
