20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
mindtrucks replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES Worth a try, let's see how it works. Don't be afraid people, we can always revert back and find another idea. -
Is the ghillie suit not ingame anymore?
mindtrucks replied to Quisari (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Dayzdb doesn't show heli crash sites because they can spawn practically anywhere in open areas inland. Quote from dayzdb: "Helicopter crashes can spawn anywhere outside of forests and buildings." -
Best Video Settings For A Good Amount Of FPS (For weak Labtops/PCs)
mindtrucks replied to ChinWooMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Visibility/view distance is a server-side setting in DayZ, altering it in your options will have no impact. Try to find servers which have it set to a low amount if that's a problem to you. -
So I was reading this other thread http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/37501-i-feel-bad/, and it got me thinking how this game is sooo unique in the way it makes me truly feel remorse and guilt whenever I do something "bad" or selfish against others. You people feel the same way? Maybe some of you feel true joy when you kill a survivor after he has helped you (I hope you don't). I think this is one of the reasons DayZ has become so popular, so fast. It actually plays with our emotions, makes us feel more intense feelings than any other games ever has. If you have any stories about how your adventures and choices has made you feel, feel free to share them.

On the topic of remorse/regret/guilt
mindtrucks replied to mindtrucks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason dayz can make me feel things I think is because I know how mad/frustrated you can get when you get killed. I know what a "waste of time" it feels like. I know that you get kinda attached to your gear and character. And bringing those feelings onto another person is what makes me feel remorse. -
So I started a new character yesterday after dying. This morning I logged in and was surprised to find myself unconscious for a good 3-4 min... I did not have any injuries or low blood. During the day I've logged in 3-4 more times and same thing, every time. What do?

mindtrucks replied to mindtrucks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah that's how I usually think too. I started playing this just over a week ago but learned fast that people like to shoot on sight. Learning from my mistakes, I shoot every armed survivor who is close enough to be an immediate danger, unless they're screaming frantically in the mic begging me not to kill them. But still I can feel remorse.. I think most people shoot on sight simply because they fear for their hard-earned bloody loot, not because they want to kill. -
When a man goes to a coastal town equipped with a M4 he is most likely there to kill freshly spawned noobs. Don't feel bad.

I understand how bad you must've felt, but like you said, it was the only sane thing to do. It's funny how we can feel bad about choices even though we know it was the right one. -
But that's one of the things that makes this game so great. The social interaction underlying in all scenarios. You can feel remorse for a while after doing something selfish, but it'll still be a fun time in the long run.

Yeah, that might have a lot to do with it. If you're talking in a mic with your friends making jokes all the time a lot of the immersion is taken away. I almost always play solo though, that's probably why it feels so intense for me. -
You're failing to understand. I don't think any of us really meant to push him down, hurt his feelings. It was more like playful bullying, joking.
-
Haha, made me laugh. On topic though, that is quite a scumbag thing to do. I'd never betray someone like that. Though I have felt bad about shooting people before they even took a shot at me, so I know what you mean. This is probably the only game that makes me feel remorse and guilt towards others.. But hey it's about survival, shit goes down.

Rocket's overall plan.

QFT Also, if OP had any idea what it takes to develop an experimental game like this that the world has never seen before(!), he would not be such a butthurt fucking crybaby. -
I use DayZ Commander aswell.. But the time showed does not match the in-game time on several servers I've tried. According to the browser the servers should be nighttime, 9-11pm, but when I join and look at my watch it's always around 1-3 pm. One example is Norway 4. Please stop the daytime abuse, it's just boring. Man up and go search for NVG.

Was on my way to scout the military camp in berezino, followed by looting it. Found an ATV in the woods nearby and took it for a joyride. I had pretty good gear, a recently looted FN FAL and a PDW. I decided I'd park the ATV a bit further uphill so anyone near berezino wouldn't hear me coming. Thing is, I parked it so it started sliding down against a tree. I heard it banging against the tree repeatedly and sat myself back on it to park it at a safer place. That's when it exploded :| I survived the blast, went unconscious for a while, bandaged up and was on my way to find a cow to slaughter. Then it exploded again while I was running next to it and this time I bled to death. Man, was I mad at myself for doing such a stupid thing.. Well atleast you learn from your mistakes.

Arma 2 uses the CPU instead of the GPU for video settings below normal/high, even high-end CPU's are not built for that. Don't use the lowest settings on all of the options, turn postprocessing and shadows off, but other options high/very high and see how it works. Sorry if this has already been mentioned in this thread. I have a pretty old PC, radeon hd 5770, q6600 quadcore, 8gb ram. I get around 15 fps at cherno/elektro, 35+ elsewhere.

Why do some people walk slow in DayZ?
mindtrucks replied to down167's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've noticed some bugs where a "stance" gets locked somehow, even between lives. By stances I mean rightclicking, leaning, doubletapping shift, and so on. When the lean stance gets locked after you die and respawn your character isn't even leaning visually, but pressing the lean buttons will fix the problem.. Just try all sorts of movement/aiming stuff and hopefully you'll fix it eventually. -
Does everybody plays like this ?

Chickenshit cowards -
Spawned in elektro, quickly found an enfield and a 1911, along with an ALICE pack. Stumbled across another survivor in the firehouse closest to the church. He was unarmed, I had no reason at all to shoot him. He happened to have a mic and seemed like a nice guy, so we ran around elektro and geared ourselves up. Our last stop was the 2nd firehouse where he found a rifle for himself, after that we parted ways. I went back in towards elektro, hoping to find a compass and some matches, and he went off to the hills NW from the firehouse. Just when I was cornering a small house, the sniperfire started. Two M107's, one firing at the other survivor, who unfortunately got killed, and the other firing several shots at me as I was zigzagging towards the market. Lousy shot he was, I made it without a scratch. I felt sad that my fellow survivor got shot by some faceless sniper hiding hundreds of meters away, just when we had geared up. So right then and there I decided it would be my personal mission to bring mighty vengeance upon those cowards. I started sprinting west, taking a long route around so I would flank the hill NW of the 2nd firehouse, where I thought the snipers were located. Apparently, someone else was trying to kill those bastards too, I heard an AK firing, followed by a PDW and some pistol. When I finally got close, the man with the AK was silenced, it angered me even more. I stopped for a while, catching my breath so they wouldn't hear me coming. Finally I saw one of them. A ghillie-suited little chicken hopping around frantically in the bushes, still full of adrenaline after his fight with the man with the AK. I whipped out my 1911 and started wildly shooting at him, full of anger. Wasted 3 clips while dodging behind trees and avoiding his PDW. He didn't even hit me, the bastard. Finally with my last clip I dropped him down, still not dead though. I ran over to finish him but right then his partner fired his M107 from the hill directly north of the 2nd firehouse. I had to take cover. When I finally got into a position to shoot at the half-dead coward I made a discovery that made me even more furious. He had alt-f4'ed :@ Still mad like a mofo. I made a new attack plan to get to his partner on the other hill. The stupid lamer must've forgotten about me, I stumbled across him, I was still heavily breathing from climbing the hill. He was overlooking elektro with his sniper, searching for freshly spawned noobs to kill. I decided I didn't have time to aim for a headshot, he must've heard my breathing by now as I was only a few meters behind him. I took the chance and fired a round from my enfield in his ass. What would you know, the chickenshit alt-f4'ed. :| I waited around for a while, hoping he would be stupid enough to come back to the same server a few mins later. He didn't. Just when I was gonna logout of frustration and write yet another thread complaining about alt-f4ing dicks, someone fired a CZ550 just 20 meters away from me. Finally, I thought, atleast I'll get this bastard. And I did. Put a bullet in his head from my enfield and looted his corpse. I then basked in the glory on top of the mountain for a while.. Atleast I made elektro safe from cowardly chickenshit douchebags.. for a while.
