Most times no need to tab out and do outside test. Just hang in the lobby for a few seconds usually that's enough to see the appropriate ping. The ping in the server list isn't accurate for quite a lot of servers. The servers I regularly play on have a ping of 2500 in the server list but ingame I run at smooth 30ms and 30 FPS.

Vehicles do not save on 1.7.2.5 thats why my server runs 1.7.2.4.
chrithu replied to PimpinSmurf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've put them up here on rapidshare as a selfextracting 7zip archive. It's 90 MB so even the slow free download shouldn't take more than 15 Minutes. -
How much is it worth to be right when it's foreseeable that soonish noone will be left to care about it. The way I see it (also keeping in mind that focus will shift more and more over to the standalone) the team might come to the point where the mod cannot be supported in a satisfactory fashion (if that isn't already the case). At the latest at that point forks like Lingor and small non-hive communities with more admin-power (kick/ban as see fit, use additional anti-hack measures, passworded servers) will take over. Personally I think if the problems with "illegal" weapons and hacking in general cannot be solved within the next months by both improving detection/prevention and giving admins more rights and means to handle the problem, wee will see a serious exodus of players away from the official hive servers towards non-hive and lingor communities. This might or might not impact the success of the standalone in the end. Opinions once built up ar hard to change, so rocket and his team should pay attention to how they deal with the admins helping them to run the game. Of course that's just my 2 Cents, which do not carry any weight ;).

Sorry for getting a little off-topic now! Man how I hate all that WEB 2.0 bullshit. Instead of having better means of gathering information at hand it all becomes a huge mess, because everyone thinks it is useful to use ALL the new tools (Facebook, G+, Twitter, Forums, Website) at once and randomly put out every new bit of info on just one of the tools. I REALLY miss the times when one could be sure that if he just goes to the official Website he could get ALL new info that's available. To be a bit constructive: Could some gifted Webdevelopment person look into integrating all the tools so that when news are posted in one of them they appear everywhere?? Like when Rocket posts on Twitter ita also get's automatically posted on Facebook and G+ aswell as a new announcement in the forums and maybe even on reddit. That would just be awesome. (For both sides I guess) Edit: And now before you bark "lazy idiot" at me. Am I the only one that thinks it is just stupid to be forced to handle 5+ sources of information just to stay in the loop, be informed and don't post bullshit (like i was obviously doing since yesterday) based on outdated information? I hope not, or we're all doomed. -

Which server is it? I'd happily play on it. My advise: Stick with 1.7.2.4 until 1.7.3 comes out (They just announced it won't be before Spt. 6th, when Rocket returns from the PAX East convention). That's what all the affected servers should do. 1.7.2.5 didn't fix graphical glitches for a lot of people and also in many cases didn't fix the ammo exploits. So basically it's a failed hotfix and should have been revoked weeks ago. -
A clear Yes from me. All the rationalizing (G36C basically is the same as M4SD, AS50 TWS once was legit, yada yada yada) means simply nothing. The weapons are not in the loot tables on purpose -> you're not supposed to have them -> most people carrying them know it and they carry and use it anyways because they know that people playing "fair" and "clean" can not get it and thus the weapon gives an advantage. Using "illegal" items in order to get an advantage over others to me is one of the many definitions of cheating. Thus carrying and using such items in my view is a kickable/banable behaviour. As far as I have seen some servers even already kick/ban in an automated fashion when you use "illegal" items and they mostly warn you beforehand with a note that the weapon is illegal and a request that you drop it within 5 minutes (which of course prevents the kick/ban if you follow the request). This is maybe the best way to handle it. If your antihack measure catch someone carrying/using illegal items warn them about it with a request to drop the item. If they don't follow and/or try to reconnect after a kick with that weapon ban them.

1.7.2.5 Tents and Vehicle Inventories not saving.
chrithu replied to NocturnalS1n's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
In principle yes. But there's not much stress on the servers if people stay off the servers or play on non-hives because of the issues discussed here. At least to us as the players and admins the bugs of 1.7.2.5 are known: Vehicles don't save at all or get changed to other vehicles upon server restart. Tents save content only once. Graphical Artifacts still are not fixed. I mean is it that hard to revoke a hotfix, that didn't fix what it should have and introduced an even bigger problem??? It wasn't ought to be released anyways in the second place. Conspiracy Theory: (so these are not facts and I don't really beleive it, still it would be funny if it was true) Rocket and the Devs keep this quiet about the mess on purpose, because they purposely introduced those bugs. Why? Because every hotfix Rocket posts: THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. Still all hosters ignore it and update within the first few hours after release and then refuse to downgrade when the bugreports start rolling in. I think they wanted to test how able the community of hosters and admins are to react to such issues without getting their hands held by Rocket and his team. Edit: I think for a large part we failed this test. -
AS50 sucks anyways. Compared to DMR or M107 the Zoomfactor simply sucks big time. Also about only Noobs and Hackers (both are more or less the same anyways) wielding that weapon: This morning I sat at the spot north of Electro near the power line. I saw a poor target in the power plant firestation. I take the kill and a second later hear steps left of me. I switch to my M9SD and walk out of the tree (just to mention it: I was wearing the Bandit Skin). I see a Ghillie with an AS50 looking into the tree I just stepped out of. He must not have seen me, since he keeps looking at the tree, so I empty half of the M9 Mag into his upper Body and Head. Examining his body I see it's an AS50 TWS and in his Backpack a M4A3 Holo SD. When changing position to the more eastern Spot someone down in the powerplant or city must have seen me, as I was killed by Machinegun fire upon reaching the tree lol. I also love "sniping" AS50 noobies with a "Leeann" in Cherno. Well that's it from me. Gonna go on a hunt now with the SAW I just found.

How did Rocket want "DayZ" pronounced phonetically?

Sometimes I just call it "Days". Like "I've been playing Days for Days now" ;-) -
1.7.2.5 Tents and Vehicle Inventories not saving.
chrithu replied to NocturnalS1n's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
What bothers me the most is that there still is no official acknowledgement of the problem to be found anywhere. What bothers me the second most is that although the problem seems to be pretty wide spread the majority of the hive servers sticks to 1.7.2.5 and hive 0.7.3. I mean what is the point in waiting for a move by the devs if a solution is at hand. If you administer a server with this problem but not the actual hoster (meaning you rented the server as a gameserver) urge your hoster to downgrade the shit. -
1.7.2.5 Tents and Vehicle Inventories not saving.
chrithu replied to NocturnalS1n's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We have the same problems on our Server (DE 1660). I'll advise our admin to try the rollback to 1.7.2.4/0.72. Though I have to state, that my former "home" server LU136 is still working perfectly even with 1.7.2.5. I wonder what hive version they are running. -
Looking for european/german players
chrithu replied to Johnny_Pfosten's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I suggest you have a look at day-z.de, afaik it's the biggest german Dayz community and home to several squads that are looking for members. They also offer a community TS. -
Where are the tents? and why the fuck are some people so stupid
chrithu replied to OddGamer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Polana or Stary Sobor Super Market. Go there regulary for tent-supplies. Also Most dummy tents aren't dummy tents but tents that were packed up for bad placement and reappeared after server restart. I wouldn't want to pack up those duped ones anyways as they are confirmed to not work properly. Never trust a tent you didn't loot yourself. -
I can confirm that the artifacts can be tracked down to dead static soldiers (Stary Sobor Military Camp, Balota Airstrip). Also it is still some tank traps and barbed wires (mostly those which are placed by players). A complete restart of the game let's the artifacts vanish. Looks like some object's geometry get's messed up when they get loaded in after playing for a while.

Can I borrow your Delorean some time?

you already can if you happen to get one. Just drop your backpack before putting it on.

No Sir. I hate alt+f4'ers just as much. I just don't think that rocket's approach of solving the issue will work well. Like I said: I would hate it a lot to get in trouble for transporting loot from a car on server A to my tents on server B and from what I understand it is quite probable that things like that will happen when that logging stuff kicks in. I just did on the end of page 41 ;). So +1 on that. I agree in so far that I also think that fixing tents and vehicles should have higher priority than preventing people from dodging death. Cowards are cowards, the guy not getting the shot knows it and the alt+f4 deathdoger/ghoster knows just aswell that he simply is nothing but a cowardly scumbag that does not get that death is a part of the game and reacquiring your stuff is huge part of the fun. In contrast to that reappearing misplaced tents, tants loosing items and alle the other stuff regularly forces my squad and me to replace our camp or even switch servers. Yet I do not think that the priorities rocket takes will kill the mod. At this point seeing all the hype already created: I don't think anything (not even rocket quitting the project) could kill the mod.

About the whole server-hop/alt-f4 login/lougout-logging deal: The question here realy is what behaviour do you want to prevent and which not. I can think of numerous situations where numerous logins and logouts on different servers would be needed that do not immediatly affect/harm other players. Like for instance having a vehicle packed full of loot on one server but your tent camp is on another. On the other hand as far as I can see consesus amongst players is that death dodging and ghosting (which realy just is an expansion of death dodging) should be prevented. From that perspective trying to solve the issues by some logging mechanism that relies on metrics and heuristics to seperate desired from undesired login/logout behaviour will be a never-ending task as it is almost impossible to eliminate false positives and false-negatives down to a number that could be seen as acceptzable. I might be wrong, but I fear after that patch goes live we'll witness a big outrage in these forum by people that got warnings and "timeouts" for packing up loot from their vehicle into their tent, or trying to find a server that has daylight ingame and much more aswell as people that still got killed by a ghoster. I suggest what many other suggested before me: To prevent people from dodging death and go ghosting, simply put on a server-side and client-side timeout. If someone hit's ESC->Abort he sees a timeout counting down from 30 seconds. If he moves or get's shot during that period that timeout is cancelled. If the timeout hits zero the player get's to the Highscore screen and can hit disconnect. If a player hit's alt+f4 his character stays on the server and can be killed still, since on server side the timout will still count down. This is how many MMOs do it for quite some time and I guess they do it that way and not by some logging mechanism for a reason.

What gun did you find the first time?
chrithu replied to Suzie (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Yes I know what you mean and I think it's also the reason why people are playing it more as some sort of FFA or Team Deathmatch. If Zeds were more of a challange people were much more inclined to make friends and help each other out, I guess. As soon as you've got a weapon you're practically invincible to Zeds as long as your ammo does not run out. It simply get's boring pretty fast to take on zombies. Taking on other players at least is challanging. Sorry for this kind of off-topic post. -
What gun did you find the first time?
chrithu replied to Suzie (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
The first gun I found was on my fourth try I think. I was crawling to Komarovo from the south industrial buildings and as I went through a bush in front of the track I suddenly had an AKM in Hands along with 5 magazines. I crawled back to the industrial building went up to the roof and started killing zeds until I ran out of ammo. -
ROCKET, Too many hackers. let me password protect my server!
chrithu replied to the.ogbizzle@gmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Allways bear in mind: Not everyone has a static IP, in germany for instance it's common to get a dynamic IP out of the providers range everytime you reconnect and there are enforced reconnects every 24 hours. Thus banning by IP will not keep a hacker out forever and in the worst case might hit someone that did not hack if he happens to get assigned the banned IP. -
Servers restarting without warning
chrithu replied to Mattolio (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
How to? Because our admin has been looking for info about it but was unable to find it. Would be cool if you could post it here or send it to me via PM so I could relay the info to him. Thx in advance.
