Softcore and Hardcore servers for Dayz Satandalone
chrithu replied to v3c1c's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
*replying only to title* When did Rocket announce sexual intercourse to become part of the game??  -
I am generally friendly. Except to people in Bandit Skin. What I do to minimize risk is: WHen I am on a scavenging run I take only with me what I absolutely need for it, which would be a Hatchet/Crowbar/Machete, a Map, some food and drink, a backpack, some bandages. And that's it. No Ghillie no fancy weapons that make me look like a target that's worth shooting. So far that works pretty good. Most people are friendly or at least neutral if you don't look like someone that could kill them if they'd ignore me.

You might want to try smoothing a bit more than 0. It's really a matter of taste. I dunno if Arma II has mouse acceleration but if so that is what you definetly want to set to 0 because it makes the mouse "oversteer" as in after you stop moving mouse the cursor keeps moving. Other than that: Shoting is only precise in first person and in aim mode (right click). For long range shooting you definetly want to hold breath in addition to that (hold right mouse).

There are still places where you can hide a tent or two. But I agree it has become harder because you can't squeeze them between rocks and trees anymore. Allthough puting them between trees never was sufficient anyways you still could spot them from miles away because of the LOD models. What you want to do is find places more towards the center of map where it is unlikely that lot's of people pass by let alone purposely look for tents there. The west side of the map is just stupid anyways because the first thing people do once they get ahold of a vehicle is scan the west side of the map for any tents.

Whenever I actually go out for hunting players I take good old Lee Anne. Also it's fun to just take a hatchet and nothing else lie down beside the coastroad and wait for some idiot to come close up. It is so Hilarious when their legs break at the first hit.

PLEASE MAKE THE DAY Z SA MORE GAMEPAD COMPATABLE!!!!!!!!
chrithu replied to beavis_5000's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree on that. Look at it this way: Being able to properly aim with the analog thumbstick of a gamepad means: The game is helping you with it A LOT and your own skill plays not much part in your accuracy. That being said I hope to see a Wiimote with much higher resolution some time soon to replace my keyboard/mouse with a WiiMote/Nunchuck combo. Except for the shitty resolution that's even a step further than mouse/keyboard as far as being intuitive goes. -
Also agree with that: There should be a seperate Hive for the RP servers.
-
Well first measure could be to make such a server whitlisted to keep those out that are just there to annoy people by PKing them.

I like the sound of that. Brought back memories of my very first online role playing game. You would be PKed there just as much as in any other game but with a lot more style because usually the guys attacking you would threaten you first or try to rob you and stuff. That would be so much more fun than just being killed in Elektro fresh after spawn just because some 13 years old thinks he's super skilled if he shoots you with his DMR.

Well for me personally it is because I like the spirit of the original. It is about surviving as long as you can. Not about hoarding loads of stuff, which in the end degrades the game into just another PvP shooter since all you do after respawn is run to your stash and gear up again. I really hope that at the latest when the standalone arrives DayZ will be a lot more about surviving vs. the environment, encouraging players a lot more to gang up and work together to survive zed attacks and the like. But that's just me. I can totally see why people would choose any of the mod branches. I mean I had alos a lot of fun evenings in rMod and raptor servers. One of the most memorable PvP Battles happened on an Rmod Server where my squad and two other squads would fight for almost an hour over a helicopter crashsite. That was just awesome. But we went to that server for that very purpose: Have some fun in PvP. On a Hive server we would have never taken that risk because we would have had to recober gear and stuff.

The melee weapons vs zombies are all equal to me: Normal Zombies die in 1 hit. The virulent Zombies need three hits. I don't use them versus players, so I can't comment on that.

This is a server side problem. Posts in this thread indicate this is caused by failing to be an admin that knows what he's doing and thus not downloading the new mission file. Contact your admin and tell him to read up on how to properly patch his server to 1.7.7.1 manually.

Good thing that my favorite tent placement location is unaffected by this problem. Still I agree here. Due to the visibility of tents, hiding them between rocks was the only way of savely storing things without the need to guard them 24/7. The new checks just prevent that and it sucks. Either this should be changed again or make large stashes available that have comparable storage to the tent. Heck looking at the size of the thing the medium stash should get at least some mor weapon/tool slots. Like make it 4 Weapons/tools 25 Items and 1 Backpack.

Hey there. I am currently using SixUpdater to manage Dayz and some other Mods for Arma2. Today upon starting Steam I saw that Dayz can now be downloaded directly through Steam. As I love keeping things inside Steam (my main source for games nowadays), I'd like to ask if anyone has already tried it and if it works well.

That's not true. Motion Blur is a post processing effect that if it affacts performance at all would decrease performance as it needs extra computational power. All it does (for people that actually can stand having it enabled) is hiding the screen tearing (screen appears to be ripped to two or three parts along one or two horizontal lines) that you see on most LCD/TFT Monitors when the picture is moving fast to the left or right.

Very nice. Also the new engine version shows just how important lighting is for the look and feel of a game. You can tell that a lot of the models and textures are still more or less the same but they look a lot more realistic thanks to lighting. I also like how the clothing will work aswell as the new ideas for spawning. Really looking forward to starting to play anytime this year. I just have one request for the next Vidblog: Please switch off the Motionblur effects. I get serious Motionsickness and Dizzyness from it. It's even worse when watching a vid than when actually playing myself with it enabled. I would really appreciate that.

That's just for people running servers.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
chrithu replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Which essentially are ONLY newly spawned players. So it is basically no defense at all. So from that point of view it doesn't matter if it's in or not. The only "real" use I see so far for that stuff is to harrass others by placing it in building entrances. -

Yes remove it. Static aswell as manually placeable ones. At least until they no longer cause graphic glitches. -
Most times no need to tab out and do outside test. Just hang in the lobby for a few seconds usually that's enough to see the appropriate ping. The ping in the server list isn't accurate for quite a lot of servers. The servers I regularly play on have a ping of 2500 in the server list but ingame I run at smooth 30ms and 30 FPS.

Vehicles do not save on 1.7.2.5 thats why my server runs 1.7.2.4.
chrithu replied to PimpinSmurf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I've put them up here on rapidshare as a selfextracting 7zip archive. It's 90 MB so even the slow free download shouldn't take more than 15 Minutes. -
How much is it worth to be right when it's foreseeable that soonish noone will be left to care about it. The way I see it (also keeping in mind that focus will shift more and more over to the standalone) the team might come to the point where the mod cannot be supported in a satisfactory fashion (if that isn't already the case). At the latest at that point forks like Lingor and small non-hive communities with more admin-power (kick/ban as see fit, use additional anti-hack measures, passworded servers) will take over. Personally I think if the problems with "illegal" weapons and hacking in general cannot be solved within the next months by both improving detection/prevention and giving admins more rights and means to handle the problem, wee will see a serious exodus of players away from the official hive servers towards non-hive and lingor communities. This might or might not impact the success of the standalone in the end. Opinions once built up ar hard to change, so rocket and his team should pay attention to how they deal with the admins helping them to run the game. Of course that's just my 2 Cents, which do not carry any weight ;).

Vehicles do not save on 1.7.2.5 thats why my server runs 1.7.2.4.
chrithu replied to PimpinSmurf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Sorry for getting a little off-topic now! Man how I hate all that WEB 2.0 bullshit. Instead of having better means of gathering information at hand it all becomes a huge mess, because everyone thinks it is useful to use ALL the new tools (Facebook, G+, Twitter, Forums, Website) at once and randomly put out every new bit of info on just one of the tools. I REALLY miss the times when one could be sure that if he just goes to the official Website he could get ALL new info that's available. To be a bit constructive: Could some gifted Webdevelopment person look into integrating all the tools so that when news are posted in one of them they appear everywhere?? Like when Rocket posts on Twitter ita also get's automatically posted on Facebook and G+ aswell as a new announcement in the forums and maybe even on reddit. That would just be awesome. (For both sides I guess) Edit: And now before you bark "lazy idiot" at me. Am I the only one that thinks it is just stupid to be forced to handle 5+ sources of information just to stay in the loop, be informed and don't post bullshit (like i was obviously doing since yesterday) based on outdated information? I hope not, or we're all doomed. -

chrithu replied to PimpinSmurf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Which server is it? I'd happily play on it. My advise: Stick with 1.7.2.4 until 1.7.3 comes out (They just announced it won't be before Spt. 6th, when Rocket returns from the PAX East convention). That's what all the affected servers should do. 1.7.2.5 didn't fix graphical glitches for a lot of people and also in many cases didn't fix the ammo exploits. So basically it's a failed hotfix and should have been revoked weeks ago.
