  1. I know, I know, the title sounds a little stupid, but I'll try to elaborate on an idea that i think that is both original and realistic. I tend to avoid hundreds of DayZ servers because of one feature: Nameplates. Countless times I've detected survivors and even vehicles by accident with it, and I think it is extremely unrealistic, especially because they work through stuff. The only occasion I'd like to see nameplates is when I see a guy coming to my direction and I don't know if it's my friend who has been traveling with me for the last 3 hours or a random guy who will just shoot me on sight. In real life, when I see a friend running towards me I know it's him, because I can recognize his clothes, his shape and even his face, since my vision (unlike my monitor) is not limited to 1920x1080 pixels. On this game, I think that different character clothes will be a feature in the distant future, when it goes standalone (It has to eventually), and the other two things I've mentioned aren't very practical ways to recognize folks on a LED screen. To counter these limitations, a simple way to make sure I recognize a guy I know is by seeing his nameplate. But how to determinate whose nameplate I should see? I was thinking about an option that would appear on the mouse wheel menu while pointing to a survivor, something in the line of "Ask survivor's name". That would give the other survivor the option to give his name or refuse to (maybe even lie). After that, the name that he might have given to me would appear like the current nameplates (or over his head all the time, MMORPG style), but only to me and the other players who know his name. That way, I could still ambush other players without having to fear accidental detection, and still prevent accidental and unrealistic friendly fire. I know it's not an easy feature to implement, and maybe impossible in DayZ's current "ArmA 2 mod" state, but it's an idea that could carry on to when this mod goes standalone or migrates to ArmA 3. So... What do you guys think?

    Tired of KOS players

What were you doing in the coast after hours playing? =P (I assume it's the coast, because seeing a guy with an axe up north is rather uncommon) If I was a bandit with an axe I'd certainly kill you too if you gave me the chance. Didn't you had a weapon to defend yourself with btw?

    'new' bandit skin is terribad..

Here we go again. Even if it was "better" (I don't know your definition of better) 5 months ago, when there were fewer players and all that, I doubt it'll ever be like that again. Only way we can find out is by waiting. Tell me whats not realistic about the game. What I can think of right now: You respawn (I hardly think anyone would buy ArmA to play ~30 min of DayZ) Zombies exist and respawn (By the time I got here everyone would already be playing Second Life with guns if that was not the case) You can't fill an empty whiskey bottle with water, you can't use your hands to drink from a lake, you can't do a cartwheel... (I'm sure if the devs didn't have more important features to add, those would be added) Game limitations =/= unrealistic features Unfortunately, the comeback of the bandit skin is a further step away the game takes from this: http://dayzmod.com/f...__440#entry6898

    'new' bandit skin is terribad..

It only dumbs the game down. See that guy over there? Instead of observing him and carefully approaching to find out if you can trust him, just take a look at his clothes! Bandits will still be bandits, people with camo will still be killed on sight, There will still be bandits disguised as common survivors/heroes... Unrealistic and pointless. I guess it'll stop all the QQ on the forums at least.

    Will DayZ be Mac Compatible?

Mac: It does the same your PC does, for double the price! Also, I'd easily get an alienware or thinkpad over a MBP anyday.

How can you tell who is a bandit?

On the most recent update the skin is kind of back

    "If this was real life"

Zombies on DayZ don't follow the rules zombies follow on other games and movies. There is no such thing as a "real life" zombie.

    Full release - Map discussion

My input: - Add more big cities (On a different area perhaps) - Add larger cities - Add an endgame place with tons of zombies and supplies (A refuge camp gone wrong makes sense to me) - Lots of blood and dead bodies on the streets

    Standalone: what will it change?

i don't think you know what you are talking about. Sorry. ArmA 2 is not Armed Assault 2 either. I can't get why people say stuff like that pretending they are 100% sure of it. Infuriates me. Don't take it personally, My ma and grandma do it all the time.
  10. There should be an option to give him a shot to the leg instead of my beans.

    Standalone: what will it change?

Actually, since ArmA 3 is around the corner, I believe we can expect for a new engine, adjusted to better fit DayZ. - Larger servers: Requires a bigger map and every building to be enterable (The later should come with ArmA 3, on the default map at least) - Elimination of duping and hacking: Continuous work should be done. I think the most ridiculous stuff won't be present on realease and more complex hacks should be removed in the future. - Logoff timers: Only reason we don't have a 5 sec logoff timer right now is because recent ArmA 2 OA patches makes the game automatically clean player models when they log out. I heard the mod had this sometime ago - Anti-ghosting measures: I think this can be worked on the current mod situation, but the new engine should probably have improvements on the matter
  12. The following seems legit:
  13. Without zombies DayZ would be The Sims with guns. You would be buying stuff from Cherno's general store instead of looting. Buying a burguer insted of hunting animals. They are not supposed to be realistic, they set the environment of the game. The rest is supposed to be as realistic as it gets. - Maybe after the apocalypse started people went after guns and tried to protect themselves inside their houses, local churches and etc? It's not like everyone just disappeared at the same time. Also, since item spawn is based on chance, you might see very few weapons on a server and tons on another. It's really not that unrealistic. - In real life there wouldn't be zombies. It's up to the devs to decide what zombies are capable of. If they want them to be mutating ponies that decapitate you with one hit you still can't claim that to be unrealistic. But I bet the last zombie that hit you irl didn't made you bleed to death. Lucky you! - Because it's the only way a game like this could work. If this wasn't so, there wouldn't be any zombies anymore by the time I got ArmA 2 CO on steam. No, there is a huge difference between zombies being eradicated (Which might even be added in someway, but new spawns will still be present) and people magically holding a sign saying "Hey, look at me, I'm a bandit!" I don't think bandit skin ever improved gameplay. It just dumbed the game down.
  14. After discussing a lot here: http://dayzmod.com/f...t/page__st__140 I thought about making a more in depth poll... Mainly for when the game goes standalone and we all might have a single set of rules, but it's cool to know what people think right now. Some pros and cons gathered from previous discussions: (Probabliy biased due to my view on these topics, but I'll try to add stuff you people post here) Third Person PRO: Some people get massive headaches from unsing 1st person for a prolonged time. (Disabling headbob helps, but it seems it's still an issue) The game is somewhat clunky in first person The engine doesn't allows you to do stuff like raising your head to see over tall grass or over cover CON: Gives the unfair advantage of seeing over cover and corners without putting yourself at risk Gives the unfair advantage of seeing your whole surroundings while crawling on tall grass or on the top of buildings It's very unrealistic overall NameTags PRO: Helps with friend identification CON: Gives you the position of people you aren't actually seeing, sometimes through stuff and from very far away. Exploitable by sweeping your mouse arround to find people. Partially nullifies the effect camos, shadows and bushes have on the game Gives you the distance of a target, rendering rangefinders completely useless. If you don't think this data is that much valuable, try to snipe a target that is more than ~400 meters away with incorect zeroing on the editor (Some weapons like the DMR have no zeroing, so you have to rely on markers in the scope). Yes, this game has bullet drop. It's very unrealistic overall Crosshairs PRO: Some weapons have bad iron sights (Maybe drop those weapons then?) ??? (Being able to shoot from the already highly exploitable 3rd person view?) CON: Too accurate for long ranges (I don't really know because I don't use them) It's very unrealistic overall Maps showing player position PRO: ??? (GPS are too rare?) CON: Makes the GPS almost useless (Aside from being a cool minimap) Makes the compass 99% useless Makes navigating through Chernarus a trivial experience. Otherwise you would have to do stuff like looking at road signs, finding north through the "shadows + clock method" or through Stars (Really fun and immersive) Works like somewhat of a radar, showing zombies, players and vehicles Can be used to estimate the distance between you and your target (each small square on the map = 100m²) It's very unrealistic overall Waypoints PRO: They should be avaliable if you have a GPS (Could be just an arrow on the gps screen instead of a magical floating hud icon tho) CON: They can be used to find your position on servers wich do not allow you to view your position with a map, through trial and error Makes navigating through chernarus even more trivial It's very unrealistic overall Death messages PRO: Don't matter much since you can see the ammount of murders in the debug monitor. (Could be solved by delaying how fast this number changes or removing it altogheter) CON: Takes away the tension that is not knowing if a target is dead Makes the "Study body" feature useless in some cases It's very unrealistic overall (I know, but I can't help it) I think that this is all for now, I will edit it if people come up with more pros and cons that makes sense
  15. Heard something about 24h spawn delay, can't confirm tho. About refueling, you have to wait for the animation. 3 (or more) people can refuel simultaneously tho

    Soldier Camo?

I think he means this: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/xdgbs/found_a_soldier_suit/ Not sure if legit.
  17. What do you mean? If I had a helicopter I would spend days transporting random people from one side of the map to the other! :D I guess at least his "Helicopter Hunter" member title is fitting.

    Soldier Camo?

I think he means actual soldier camo, with a helmet and all. Saw a pic of it on reddit, seems legit, but can't really confirm
  19. Yeah, because if there are zombies, nothing else has to make sense. Read what rocket posts. Yes, it is about realism (Or authenticity, he prefers this word)
  20. Defending the removal of the bandit suit =/= defending KoS You don't fix unrealistic problems with unrealistic fixes when you are trying to make a realistic game. Sanity is quite complex. If you are in a group and kill multiple people from a hostile group I don't think you should lose your sanity. You should actually feel a bit good since you just successfully protected those close to you. It could turn out to be an interesting mechanic, but it would have to be implemented very carefully.
  21. Let's all forget the focus of the game is having an authentic experience. Time to add a supporting attack heli after 7 kills.
  22. Kills a player *Poof* Changes clothes The funniest part is that it actually makes sense to some people.
  23. Are you implying Rocket likes boys mister?

    Chem Sticks

if you throw one one the ground and walk away, you will notice it'll disappear if you go beyond a certain distance. Blue ones disappear first, then red and then green. Much safer than a flashlight, considering those can be seen from very far away
