  1. Dead bodies should have a check pulse option and you should be able to open the inventory of unconscious people... Imagine the tension and possibilities this could create...

Ambushed a squad of three at Stary

Impressive stuff. You normally feel quite safe fully geared and on a squad of 3 or more, specially on such a low pop server. This reminds people that they are never safe, 1 person is far enough to give a small group hell. This takes a bit of the magic away, but still, pretty decent ambush =P
  3. Nametags and the magical map don't help DayZ noobs. Stuff like lesser zombies do. This stuff works diferently in ArmA because as a noob you will mostly be doing PvE. Also, target distances don't matter that much because itens like rangefinders will be given to you if you are a sniper, you don't have to find them. You will have a GPS from the start on most missions as well. No, getting rid of those settings would be ridicously easy if they go standalone, just add some default values and remove options from the menus. If they want to do that right now, even easier, all they must do is post on the forums that all servers must turn these options off otherwise they will be blacklisted on the hive (Same way servers that turn battleye off do). I assume when you say you speak from experience, you mean experience on playing ArmA II, not developing software, because that last statement was WAY off.
  4. >.> OP =/= poll All the power should be at the hands of developers. Hosters gonna host. My post doesn't assumes nothing. The Idea is seeing which settings people like or dislike. As you can see, most people don't like stuff such as nametags and magical maps. If most of the community thought everything should be up to the server owners, those wouldn't be the results, because those people would be voting that everything should be kept. Nametags and magical maps are utter bullshit in a game that aims for an authentic experience, those shouldn't even be options. The only reason they are is because it works well for ArmA (Even then I doubt most ArmA servers use those). Do you wan't me to add a PRO to all the settings saying "Server owners should get to decide everything because they pay to host"? Because that's the only fairly reasonable thing I've managed to extract from your posts thus far.

    Zombies aggro from 50+ meters

Yeah, it would be hard to throw a tin can 1000km... specially considering chernarus' area is around 200km²...
  6. Actually, that would not be "Somewhere in front of me" but at the middle of the screen. I can easily hit a target on close combat without a crosshair in the body and I think thats fairily realistic and that a crosshair is unecessary, but I don't really care that much if that is removed or gone. Then what are YOUR Pros and Cons? People often critsise the op for it's bias, but they never actually say what should be added or removed... Lack of a point or laziness I suppose. I am adding what people write here, even what I don't agree with, but it pisses me off when someone just comes and whine it's biased.
  7. The game isn't that clunky on first person, but it does demand you to get used to it. Third person is an overkill to those limitations you mentioned. I kind of doubt you would carry a periscope on a zombie apocalypse and peep holes are very situational (Won't be able to do that through a concrete wall or a three for example). About raising your head, it's not a limitation, it's just an unimplemented feature which wouldn't be that hard to develop (would work a lot like pressing q and e). I would rather ask for that feature than to have the overkill that is 3rd person view. 3rd person view is in no way more realistic than 1st person view. I will add your points to the PROs list tho, since I agree with them to some extent. Edit: On your edit, interesting stuff, but I still think third person view is an overkill. If you raise your head a bit or make a peep hole your fov will be very limited and thats not the case with tpv (Your fov actually gets much bigger, enough to spot someone behind you lol. I think adding some more movement possibilities (Which is being done in ArmA 3, if Im not mistaken I saw a trailer that portraits stuff like this) is much more of a correct answer. Creating peepholes would probably be too hard/impossible to implement decently, but having a few scattered around wouldn't be that bad (like those holes you may find on concrete walls around chernarus, not the ones which you can crawl through, but the partially broken ones right besides them)
  8. Guess forgetting differences between words of a language that is not your own is much worse than repetitively distorting a title... Oh well. Because you and a some people get sick on every fps doesn't means most of people who get sick from DayZ gets sick from every fps. I guess you are making assumptions here too. The poLL actually shows that nametags and maps working like gps+radar shouldn't be in the mod. Some other options that are getting more positive votes lack any decent favorable PRO, like waypoints and death messages. As I said multiple times I don't have many hopes of tpv ever being removed (Mod would still have the same success if it was released without it tho), but I do like the idea of a character that was created on a tpv server not being able to join a fpv one. Server owners pay to host DayZ, but the hive sets the rules, they know what they are paying for and they know rules can change anytime. It's alpha after all. The game philosophy of being authentic shouldn't be changed to please server owners.
  9. Hard to argue with someone who can't read. Read my post again, especially the part about how it's the ultimate pool, not the ultimate settings. Things that work with arma (essentially a PvE game) don't work with DayZ. It's a completely different experience. Removing 3rd person would upset the community now, but if it wasn't present from the beginning, the mod would be just as successful, if not more, since DayZ fpv makes playing DayZ a much more tense and immersive experience, which is what makes this mod great after all. I know people would be pissed if 3rd person view was removed, but I doubt they would stop playing. The ones who get sick mostly don't turn headbob all the way downand don't give a chance to fpv. There is still some headbob when it is all the way down tho. I think completely removing headbob would be a better fix. I don't know, but i think that most of the people who get sick from playing ArmA on fpv don't get sick from playing other games. The camera should be more like those then.
  10. Agreed to an extent. Most features need tweaking, but not everything we are talking about here is a feature (Maps showing your position and the direction you are facing while there are compasses and gps on the game is not a feature for instance). Nametags need tweaking until we can wear custom clothing and stuff, then it can and perhaps should be completely removed.I don't see how things like tpv are going to help a survivor to open his backpack. Less zombie damage is far enough to make the game more bearable to noobs. Taking 3rd person view away would greatly reduce the danger of getting shot while looting a big city, so that should help more than harm.
  11. Edit: Forgive me, completely misread your post. Kind of makes sense, but friendly fire would still happen from time to time.
  12. What you mentioned are missing features and engine limitations, no intentional unrealistic ones that could easily be removed (doesn't even requires any coding). The game might not be 100% realistic, but it's definitively one of the closest games to achieve that, in many ways thanks to ArmA 2's flawed engine.
  13. One of those things that should definitively be around when the game goes standalone. Unfortunately, you shouldn't hold many hopes to see it implemented so soon.
  14. If you read it closely, it says ULTIMATE server settings POLL. It's the ultimate pool for server settings. Talk about assumptions... A standalone IS coming. Not only the dev team shows clear signs that this is likely to happen, but clones are popping out. It's not such a big assumption, Do you even know what an engine is? If DayZ uses ArmA 3's engine, it can very well take every setting of. Hell, they could probably develop a remake of pong on that engine. RPG Maker 2000 sure could and it's not even an engine lol If the community wants every option and the devs should deliver it, why we don't have PvE servers? Or servers without zombies? Because the focus here is being an authentic zombie sim... I've never called people who play on recruit and regular servers lame, I've called people who abuse 3rd person lame, and yes, it is lame. You absolutely HAVE to do it in a server that allows it so you aren't at disadvantage but IT IS lame. Funny that you are telling me to join the military. I could tell you to go play CoD and BF if you don't want realism. You are just being pointless.
  15. There are realistic advantages: Being on higher ground, behind cover and etc and there are lame advantages like using your third eye to look over cover. Nothing wrong with the realistic ones. Like dsi1 mentioned, ArmA is mainly PvE and the AI won't complain that you are spotting them in a completely unrealistic way. DayZ is a different game. I don't think I'm the one crying here at all. I don't hold many hopes of seeing TPV gone now that everyone is so used to it it's too late. People are used to being lame, since everyone else is doing the same. I see your point, but I've presented that list to make it easier to voters to see how and why those settings affect gameplay. As I've said there, If anyone presents a new PRO or CON that actually makes sense I'll be happy to add it to that list. So far it has been going like: "Get used to TPV you noob" (Even tho TPV is ridiculous) and "I like waypoints, so don't take them off plz".
  16. Yeah, you shouldn't see over the terrain or over a piece of grass, in fact you can't in real life. I agree that we should be able to raise our heads a bit, and i've seen it done in some other game, but that's an engine limitation. From what I've seen ArmA 3 will bring big improvements in this area, and therefore it's likely that DayZ will in the future as well. FPV gives you motion sickness in all games or just DayZ? ever tried setting head bob to the lowest value?. You have tools to look around like the alt key and the leaning buttons, and you are much less likely getting your head blown off by a camper if the camper can't use 3rd person view to see you coming either... Care to tell me what's the reason for it being in arma? You really think I can't use TPV? lol. I play single player arcady games like hitman on tpv all the time, I can lame out and use the cam to my advantage like you do. It's just lame on multiplayer games, especially DayZ, which focus on being authentic... Of course it is "a lot better", you would find it that seeing zombies through walls would be a lot better... but fair and authentic? Definitively not.
  17. Yeah, it takes a lot of getting used to, and I think it's too late to remove it, but 3rd person is used in the lamest possible ways... Maybe they could try something when the game goes standalone, but I think the whining will be too big. I wonder if your head hurts while playing other 1st person shooters too, if it doesn't then it's probably the headbob that is causing this, wich can be lowered on ArmA's setting (Not fully removed tho, so it might not be enough to solve the headaches...) but if the zed is right on top of you you don't really need the crosshair to hit him, just make sure your gun is pointing him and pull the trigger. Same can be said for spraying with ARs and any other weapon really. Your friend could just tell you that he died or you could presume he is dead or knocked out if he don't answer you trough direct comm...
  18. Let's make a how to hack DayZ thread to make sure it's accessible to all and fair :P Then add those said weapons to the game maybe, instead of a broken mechanic? You have funny arguments...
  19. You mean FOV? It's not that bad, and at least it prevents you from seeing stuff you shouldn't. Free look through the ALT key helps that a lot and so do the globes on the edge of your screen. also, you don't see that much wider when you switch to 3rd person view... the main difference is that you can look over hills and other stuff you aren't supposed to...
  20. That highly depends on your position. I you are on the top of a building you can use third person to look around without any risk, yet no one will be able to see you. If you are behind cover people will have to get close to you in order to tilt their camera and spot you in the same way you can spot them. --- Amazing how much votes some stuff is getting, yet no one says why they should be kept... Seems people don't need a reason to favor what they are used to.
  21. The thing is that you don't need a crosshair to shoot at that range, unless you are aiming for the head, and even then it's still possible to hit the head without a crosshair at those short distances. IRL you probably won't be able to shoot someone in the head from your hip either anyways...
  22. Care to tell us what is so unrealistic about this game? (Aside from zombies ofc). I don't think loads of people would leave the game if there were no nametags or even crosshairs. A very select few would get too butthurt i guess, but 99% would just accept they actually have to see a guy to know where he is and they can't magically know his distance. WOW. Great point dude! I've never been killed all the time because I know there always will be some lame player abusing 3rd person when I join such server. The only pretty lame thing here is your argumentation. Saying that it should removed because it's not realistic is not selfish at all. I don't hear people crying out loud because they can't play CoD and BF in 3rd person and I don't see any reason why they should ask for it on DayZ. You can't see shit while you are crawling on tall grass or the top of a building IRL, and you shouldn't do either in this game. You are just crying out because you are used to this kind of bs and refuse to try 1st person. As I've mentioned before, I do think it's to late to remove that since people are too used to it and will just freak out if removed, but IT IS BULLSHIT, no one can deny it. I don't see how that is being selfish. Loads of people cry about the L85 having thermal but don't mind nametags and third person, it's funny. The game is already hugely successful. It would still be if none of this crap existed from the start. I doubt many people would give up buying the game if it was 1st person only because 3rd person doesn't makes this game special. Realism and tension do. And those are much better experienced if playing on 1st person I must say. You shouldn't even know they are there, doesn't matters if enemy or not. Completely ruins ragefinders and almost does the same to camo.... Nametags can't be defended. No, it's not impossible to shoot in this game, you have ironsights for that, and they work much better. No you don't know where it's gonna shoot and you clearly have no idea of what you are talking about.
  23. LOL, good luck coming close enough to the inner corner without getting a bullet to the head. Maybe if the other player sucks bad. Far from free murder tho. So they can see the whole city while crawling because I am not using my survival instincts? Nice try. I don't have problems with 3rd person abusing people because, unlike you might think, I do use "proper survival instincts". That doesn't makes the abuse of the 3rd person cam any less of a dumb exploit people shouldn't have to adapt to. This mod is about realism after all. We shouldn't work around bs like this, if we didn't had to maybe the newcomers would also have a better time. 3rd person is unrealistic, period. We don't have many things in this mod because it's unrealistic. This is not a playstyle, thats a lame exploit. Seeing a whole city while crawling on top of a building is WRONG, no matter how hard you try to defend it by saying it's a playstyle and that there are ways to counter it. Never in the history of mankind a quote so unrelated has been used in a post. tl;dr: Instead of getting rid of broken exploitable mechanics thus leading to a better experience, "adapt" to them. You know... It's not like we get our asses handed to us on regular servers... It's just that it's full of completely unnecessary crap that only hurts gameplay and nullifies the utility of many rare items.

    Zombies aggro from 50+ meters

If you are on their line of sight, not on the shadows and on flat (no grass) land, then they should spot you quite easily, even while prone/crawling... Try using tin cans to make them turn around or wait them to pass by...
