US 1586 Chicago Hacker Killed everyone

Standalone Day Z: Profile names attached to cd-keys. Being able to switch names or have duplicates makes hacker reporting very difficult.
  2. Player Virgil attacked our group and had a G36 in tow. Server admin was playing at the same time, after a long period of not doing so. Possible admin abuse more information to come.

    Player IGN: Virgil w/ G36

Thank you kindly! I'll contact the server admin before I post server details. I don't want to ruin his server with hackers.
  4. It's late and I'd like to keep this short, but I'm curious if a DoS attack is possible by hackers circumventing a connection to the Hive. I do not run bit torrents, and have had a stable service for years, but tonight while I was running with my group (and having dealt with numerous hackers over several servers, one of which being the "Thunderdome" hack), until my connection with the ISP suddenly dropped from the router, with connection being restored after the ISP sending an echo through my line with a powercycle. If an attack of this sort is even possible it worries me as to the potential damage a hacker can do to a persons internet connection (IE Money).

    Potential DoS Attack?

Troll, you didn't read anything I wrote. Besides, I don't mind getting hacked playing an ALPHA MOD. I just want to make sure someone can't easily hijack my internet and start reading diplomatic links or some shit. Also, your trolling is in the way of the designers bugtesting during the ALPHA stage of development. And no, alpha comes before beta.

    Potential DoS Attack?

Thank you! I don't have experience with denial of service attacks, so the clarification was great! I'll be logging back into DayZ tomorrow. =)
  7. Noted. It was not an attempt to drown out other questions, merely to separate the question from my statement. Thanks Max!
  8. Q. Do you plan on implementing radios in the Alpha? On the subject, what are your plans for the radio system? I'm aware of the talks about Baby Monitors. Personally I don't like the idea: Lots of programming for something that can only broadcast so far, realistically. I've listed my ideas for the radio system in the Suggestions thread: http://dayzmod.com/f...s/page__st__100
  9. The first one was an Arma 2 issue, it didn't have melee, the DayZ team had to program it in. Hence getting the zed to hit you while running may very well not be until the beta.
  10. Excellent topic. I recently posted about the strange deaths I've had (Being gear-less and invited to a group, to be shot for my flashlight), but didn't think to mention the lack of incentive to team up. It would be a drag if the release was a deathmatch. Don't forget radios! A way to bring survivors together, as well as bandits (heh).

    Meat From Dead Players

I actually mentioned DayZ to a friend and he asked if you could canibalize players. He feels the game isn't a realistic zombie survival sim without cannibalism . I don't blame him. Put some debuffs with it considering it gives players another reason to kill noobs.
  12. Finally got a character that survived for a few days, all the tools I needed (Axe, matches, compass/map, knife water bottle etc.), got an Enfield and m1911 with plenty of ammo for each. I was MILES from the coastline in the forest, on a low player server (~10), and was traveling during beginning morning nautical twilight. I rounded a ridgeline and crawled up to the edge of the treeline. I didn't have my binoculars out for more than five seconds until I was sniped. Considering I was miles from the coastline to avoid snipers, it was my luck to run into one in the middle of nowhere. I'm not traveling at night anymore. ****ing bandits. =P - Wulfsok

What you said was realised. I'm more attached to my .50 now than the .303. It's fun to snipe snipers at Stary Sobor.

So? It made for a good cigarette break.

    Walkie Talkies.

My thoughts: Radios and their Uses -AM medium-wave Radio Receiver looted in common houses and commercial areas [TOOL]- -AM medium-wave Radio Transmitter with 112 possible channels (520kHz - 1610 kHz with 9 kHz intervals given Chernarus' location in the ITU2 region) broadcasting over Chernarus. If another player broadcasts on the same frequency as another, the communication is broadcast to the closest players. Looted in military areas excluding Fire Stations and Hunting Towers [iTEM][DEPLOYABLE - ONCE]- -FRS/GMRS Hybrid Radios allowing two-way service with Channel 1 being the Chernarus National Emergency Service, repeating a message of evacuation to military forces in Chernogorsk. The FRS/GMRS is essentially a high-powered 14 channel walkie-talkie, and transmits up to 75 kilometers. Looted in Fire Stations and Hunting Towers [TOOL]- -Each radio has a GUI displaying a power button, volume control and channel selector- -The AM transmitter includes a broadcast button, and the GUI must remain open to broadcast (Player distance from transmitter inhibits sound clarity)- -The FRS/GMRS utilizes the Group Communication VOIP and Text Chat. Game-wise, switching channels changes which group you are in, and other players closing 75km to you automatically join your group, if they are tuned to the same channel- I believe that these implements will introduce a more dynamic communication system, Survivors can utilize the FRS/GMRS to coordinate meetings, as well as bandit interventions. Wars can break out over AM broadcast ranges. Music stations will emerge. A dynamic radio communication system entails many possibilities within DayZ. - -
  16. I've been going solo for some time, and it's quite fun (albeit challenging and disheartening at times), but have had an interest in teaming up. So far I've had one (unarmed) survivor decide to team up, but 5 minutes later we get shot down by a group of ghillie suit guys. Try again. Then I came across a survivor with an axe in a warehouse. She stares at me while I repeat my good intentions and complete lack of any loot (no bandage even), then, verrrry slowly, she pulls out a makarov and empties the entire clip. I'm not complaining... afterall, I don't have a headset for VOIP at the moment. But my point is : If you have jack for squat, and someone comes at you saying friendly, don't be an idiot. You could wait and work with them, THEN shoot them in the back after they get NVG.

    Why all the hate?

Like I said, I'm not complaining. Without PvP this would be another boring zombie game with the Arma engine. What I typed in red wasn't sarcasm. Merely citing an observance.

    DayZ Stories

I've been playing this great mod for about a week now, and it's growing on me: I rolled a female character for a change and was spawned in Chernogovosk. Since I haven't spawned in Cherno before (Nor really know much about Cherno), I crouched down and surveyed any loot buildingas as I rounded the small mount. Deftly moving past a cluster of hoppers, I checked the first house I came to and scored the usual .303 British and a a nice set of binocs, then I hopped over to the market to loot an M1911 and some consumables, losing a few zed I picked up outside by heading out the back. Instinctively deciding to rush for the open house a few blocks down, I beeline through a zed patrol into a house with an axe and watch. As I turn to leave I notice zed running in a dubious direction outside, followed by an engine sound as a russian military vehicle flies down the road, taking several zed with them. I stayed back for a moment, before deciding to leave Cherno (yeah...). Knowing the relative positions of Cherno and Elektrogovorsk I slink into the woods and follow the coastline east, a rather tedious trek. Aware of the juicy fire station to the far north of Elektro on the north-bound highway, I approach the city from a tall hill to the north. As the Fire Station comes into view, I pull out my binocs and check the area for activity: A mound of dead zed in front of the station, with two guys armed with AK-74s clearing the north end of town, on the station roof. My heart jumps into my throat. Inches away from simply cutting my losses and moving on north, I hesitated. And watched. My range finder counted ~376m to my targets, and my .303 has an effective range of 400m, not only that, but I CAN make out their figures in my sight picture, as well as compensate for the small bullet drop from my elevation. I watch. And watch. Now they're doing a blood transfusion.. BAM... BAM... BAM......... BAM!! With the two dead as doorknobs as I bolt down the hillside to the station, climb the ladder and begin a heart-pounding looting session. Alice Pack, AKS-74 Kobra w/ 7 magazines, and a good set of tools and meds. Within a half-hour I had a character with a good set of gear. She's still alive, currently half-way between the Barbaric Coast and the Krasnostav airstrip.
  20. Don't climb onto rooftops.
  21. Wulfsok

    Noob tip # 68254

You can climb any rooftop. You can also scout any ridgeline. But trial and error denote tree lined-hills > any rooftop.

So your idea is: "Don't complain or we yell at you." Ooooh scary.

Thank you all for the informative posts. In retrospect I wasn't looking for advice, considering that story was my first post on the forums, and it was a story about a semi-geared character dying from being careless. But to all of us noob survivors it's essential that we share stories and downfalls, so that we can band together against the gods among men that a skinny minority of this forum seem to be. So... Has anyone ever met someone ingame and didn't get betrayed? I know that it can be possible, especially using side chat, but given my experiences so far in Day Z I've been learning something about the real zombie apocolypse: Can't trust what you're not pokin', and even then ya gotta double tap.
