    Are Boats Worth It?

I just made the long swim to shore and only lost a dmr mag, my backpack is still attached.

    Are Boats Worth It?

I logged back in and of course my boat was gone. Had to swim to shore. So there's another downside, you lose the boat on a DC or a reset or whatever.

    Are Boats Worth It?

Coincidentally enough, I was making the long journey south on a fishing boat just a few minutes ago. Then the server gave me one those "no message received x seconds" messages, and I got DC'ed. Now I'm wondering what's going to happen when I log back in. Probably something bad. I have the worst luck with vehicles.
  4. What other players? I'm a hermit of the northern wilderness, haven't seen another player in weeks.

    Hoarders: beware

Loot has no owners, only takers.

    A question of morals

Forget about the moral question, tell me more about these bowls of hell. Does Satan pour his Honey Nut Cheerios in them?
  7. Can we get an odometer added to the debug window? I would love to know how much distance my character has traveled.
  8. Does anyone know if this change would be difficult to implement? Does changing the hatchet "remove from toolbelt" destination from primary to secondary mean rewriting the entire hatchet hack, or are we talking about just changing a few lines?
  9. I agree. Make gun degradations = more weapon jams, and add a cleaning kit as a lootable item you can find (military spawn, maybe?). Put in a command for the player to unjam the weapon (animation), so that a jammed weapon is not permanently broken, just a heartstopping malfunction in a firefight. FarCry 2 had degradable guns that would rust and become prone to jamming. It was an added element of tension when you knew your weapon wasn't reliable.

    Distance Traveled

I also spend a lot of time in the wilderness and would love an odometer!

    Camp Griefing

I'm willing to run those risks. Camps are rarely guarded 24/7, and when I return I glass it and any high ground from a distance first. The chances of another lone wolf also finding the camp, arming himself, and then finding me in the wilderness is low. Being able to resupply from camps is more valuable to me than denying it to others.

    Camp Griefing

I know what you mean. I lost my first car to a server restart, and then again to a BattlEye kick. I just finished using a Ural which ended in a kick, but I got what I needed out of it. Keep checking landmarks, you'd be surprised what's out there.
  13. Please post your machine's OS, hardware specifications, and the optimal settings that you use to play DayZ. The intent of this thread is to create repository of specs that people can run the search function on if they want help adjusting their settings or just want to know if their machine can run the game. Yes, I have an older machine, feel free to have a laugh :D . Still runs DayZ, so I'm happy with it. SPECS: OS: XP Pro SP3 Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @2.93GHz MoBo: MSI P6NGM-L LGA 775 Memory: 4GB DDR2 Video Card: XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB SETTINGS Quality Preference: High Interface Resolution: 1280x720x32 3D Resolution: 1280x720 (100%) Texture Detail: Normal Video Memory: Very High Ansiotropic Filtering: Normal Antialiasing: Disabled Terrain Detail: Normal Objects Detail: Normal Shadow Detail: High HDR Quality: Normal Postprocess Effects: disabled Interface Size: Large Aspect Ratio: 16:10 - Wide V-Sync: disabled
  14. I also have an older machine. Hope this helps you find the right settings for your machine.

    Setting yourself a goal

I want to reach Skalisty Island. I've never been there, and I just want to see it for myself. So far I've got the boat I need and have been scrounging up fuel. To my amazement and consternation, I also discovered that the Arma2 engine has tides, so the boat I left floating on the water is now good and stuck in the shallows.

    Camp Griefing

Have you checked prominent landmarks? I've found a stupid amount of stuff stashed at rock formations, lakes, that northeastern inlet, and Pobeda Dam. I guess it makes it easier for them to remember where their tents are.

    Camp Griefing

I've been doing the same thing now that I've learned to survive in the wilds. My long walks through all the wilderness areas have revealed several camps, and I've been able to resupply at them more than once before they get shut down.
  18. YES I especially like how the person with low humanity doesn't have a counter to tell them they have low humanity. Just as in real life, you can't smell your own stink.
  19. This is intereting. An artificial conscience, or maybe an artificial psychological profile and the reaction to stress based on that profile. Let's say every time you spawn, your character is assigned a psych profile. You don't know what that profile is until you subject him to the stress of killing other human beings. Make the majority of profiles normal, so that murders bring grief, guilt, PTSD. The game would manifest these as physical symptoms like shaking aim, nervous fits where the player loses control of the character, maybe the constant sound of muttering to yourself. Do enough murders with a non-killing psych profile, and you make your character suicidal, lose control of him, and have to watch him blow his brains out. A small minority of profiles are abnormal. Again, when you spawn, you don't know if you got the normal or the abnormal profile. Abnormal profiles are stone cold psychos who don't suffer any symptoms from killing, because it doesn't stress them at all. So there's still psycho bandits out there, killing without remorse. There's just not many of them, because that kind of personality is rare. A system like this would make killing inherently risky, because you don't know if the character you spawned can handle the stress.
  20. Thank you! I downloaded from BE website and overwrote the battleye dll in both my C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\BattlEye C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\BattlEye folders. Now the game launches through Six Launcher and I can connect to servers and play. Although some servers still give me "wait for host," have they not updated on their end maybe?
  21. I would love a single shard, persistent server system like Eve. Ah, the impossible dream.

    Mountain Dew?

Mountain Dew enhances your night vision. Really.
  23. If we're talking about a zombie infection that spreads quickly enough to convert most of the population, then the most probable outcome is that I'd become infected. Then I would come after you, dine on some human tartare, and shamble off to my next meal.
  24. This made me think a bit. From what I've experienced, Day Z is not really a sandbox at all. The current parameters of the game force you to either group with others on external voice chat and shoot all others on sight, or wander around alone and kill all others on sight. Any other playstyle is heavily penalized through constant deaths and loot loss. But I'm still going to play, I want to see where this goes.
