In a pvp sandbox game where murders happen everyday, how can anyone get worked up over property theft and/or destruction? It's just another form of pvp. Loot has no owners, only takers.

Too true. After 16 days of wilderness survival and camp raiding without encountering a single player, I got sniped in patch of forest near a small lake south of the Skalka rocks. I had just filled my canteen, too, which makes me wonder if my killer had been staking out the lake for just that reason. If so, that's a patient player. That's why I say hey man nice shot.

Quick follow-up: If the engine does have tides, is it possible to determine how their timing is calculated and thus put together an almanac? I would love to know when it's going to be high or low tide on a server.

How are we going to do that when we can't access our inventory while boating? "I'm sorry, baby, I'd use a condom but I can't get it out my pocket right now."

I can confirm that you lose body temp in a boat, as I've done it myself. Also, if the server resets while you're boating, expect to be treading water when you log back in, as the boat will vanish.

All I can add is that I recently got my brother to start playing, so we are both connecting from the same router/modem, and we both run at different speeds, so I don't think connectivity is the deciding factor. We do have drastically different machines, yet I run faster on my older machine than he does on his newer one.

I've been playing about a month now, my current character has 16 days. The game definitely opened up for me once I learned the map. I've spent a lot of time exploring the north, and the more common places to find camps. A lot of people are lazy when it comes to camps and set them up near obvious landmarks (lakes and ponds, hilltops, rock formations). Most of my high-tier weapons and equipment came from raiding camps and vehicles. I have yet to set foot in NW Airfield or a Heli crash, and currently have no need to. I guess it comes down to two things, learning the map, and a lot of patience.

For the most part I sneak. Conserves ammo and helps me avoid other players.

So I was leaving Skalisty Island in a fishing boat at night. It's loud and it's slow, so I stay way off the coast to avoid any snipers as I motor my way back to my northern camp. Of course, the server resets about half way through my journey (this is my second server reset in a boat, I'm lucky like that). I log back in, boat is gone, and I'm treading water. In the dark. And I'm freezing. So I rotate the camera, find the north star to get my bearings, and start swimming west to shore. And swimming. And swimming. And then swimming some more. I give up on holding down the 'w' key and just jam it with a piece of folded paper. Day Z, the hardcore 'w' pushing simulator. My guy's still freezing, and now has a nasty cough too. Just when I start to think that maybe I'm not swimming west after all, I finally catch sight of the shore, just a silhouette in the dark really. So I pull the paper to unjam the 'w' key, but I'm still swimming. Something's gone wrong, the key won't come back up. I reach the shore and now my guy is running while I try to unstick the key. He keeps coughing, and running, right past a gas station and manages to aggro some zeds. The 'w' key still won't come up. I'm half way across the field, the zeds are still on me, my guy's still coughing, my blood is slowly but surely ticking down. Finally the key comes unstuck. I spin around and bring down the first zed, but the second gets in a hit. I pop him too, but not before (wait for it) he breaks my leg. No morphine on me, so I crawl to the tree line, log, and take a break. Boats, man. Boats are a fucking riot.

I've done nothing but solo since I started playing this game. Once you get the hang of it, it's really not that hard. I've gone from nothing to full survival kit (hatchet/knife/matches/canteen) four or five times by now. Current character is on day 14, all solo. I just finished raiding a hospital for morphine, bandages, and painkillers, and I have a tent stocked with enough cooked meat to heal me ten times over. Game isn't broken, solo works just fine.

Found a fishing boat, so I hit my stash for some Jerry cans and filled her up. I decided I wanted to take a trip south to Skalisty Island, as I'd never been there. I made a pit stop in Berezino to fill up my fuel cans, then returned to the boat and kept motoring south. This was a nighttime cruise, so the stars were out, it was quite nice. One problem with boating far off the coast is that you get cold, and soon my body temp dropped below 30. Somewhere south of Solnichniy I docked again so I could use a heat pack. I really wish the inventory was accessible while driving a boat. Anyways, kept going south and finally reached the island. I disembarked and waded to shore. I made the rounds of the few buildings on the island, dodging infected when I could and capping them when they got too close. I climbed the radio tower to check out the view and spotted a cow, so I climbed back down and ran over to it. It was time for some beef steak barbecue! Once I had the meat cooked, I pitched a tent and stashed the meat and the loot, which included a spare hatchet and matches. Now I had a decently stocked tent on the island just in case I died and spawned on the southern coast. Saved the tent, then returned to the shore by the boat to log out. All in all, was a good night's work.

Do any of the Arma maps have caves? Because I would like to have some mountain caves to stash supplies in, raid, fortify, and clash with other players with over possession.
