Thermal vision. Does it belong in this game?
subtle replied to galhast's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thermal is OP as phuck and should definitely be removed from the game. It requires absolutely no skill to use. Just 360 degree scan your environment and see people all over the place 1000 meters off. There is nothing to counter it. Either you have it and are at a complete advantage or you don't have it and you're phucked. It's literally impossible to play at night without it. If it's allowed to stay in the game then the L85 should be much more common and be able to spawn in the barracks. For people to have the magical advantage of thermal vision simply because they were lucky enough to stumble upon a heli crash site where it spawned is silly. -
Bro it's easy as pie to backtrack on patches. Go to Program Files - Steam - Steamapps - Common - Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead - Expansion In that Expansion folder you will see one titled "beta". Simply right click and delete that entire "beta" folder and send it to the recycling bin. Yes I said delete the entire folder. Each time you patch it overwrites the files already in that folder. If you are patching for the first time, or you delete that folder like I just instructed, when you patch again it re-creates that entire folder. So, just delete that folder and then find the earlier 95948 patch that you already downloaded and just run that patch. It will re-create the "beta" folder and you will be back on 95948.

Green "passed out" hourglass upon login every time?
subtle replied to cindyanne1's topic in New Player Discussion
Of course you can. Uninstall SU and perform the manual installation of the game files and patch. Why would you forego being able to play the game simply because SU isn't working? -
Manual Install all day long. Why bother using a separate application when it's so easy to do yourself?
-
Why are so many people still hung up on using SixUpdater? FFS people perform the manual install of the files already. There is a step by step instructions process on the DayZ wiki page. It's easy as pie and then you don't have to deal with that application any longer preventing you from enjoying the current updates. I've been playing 1.7.2.5 since last Friday, literally almost a week, yet I'm still reading about people asking when it's going to be available on SU. Why the hell would you even wait that long? Either perform the manual install, best way to play IMO, or get the newer DayZ Commander (google it) if you really need a separate application to hold your hand so you can play this game.

So my buddy and I headed to the NWAS, specifically to the North Barracks, just now. We were on Atlanta 1799. At the time we joined there were about 10 LLTS guys in it and it was apparent it was their server. We got in to position so that we had line of sight on the barracks and waited a few minutes before approaching. Just as we were about to head to the door we saw two guys, one in Ghillie and the other in Civilian clothing. The guy in the Ghillie was covering the front door and the Civilian was near the back of the building. My friend dropped the guy in the Civilian clothing and the guy in the Ghillie ran for the woods. The guy that was murdered was named Faethore_LLTS. Immediately I hit P to see the guys in the server. Within seconds a guy named Snodor_LLTS aborted but stayed in unspawn. Sure it could have been a coincidence but I highly doubt it based on what happened next. Less than three minutes later they literally went down the list and banned every single person in the server, since they couldn't know for sure which one of us was the one that killed their clan member. My buddy was one of the last to be banned so he could see the list of names popping up one by one as people were knocked off. The message showed "(Battleye: Banned (a))" We both had a good laugh about the whole thing thinking we had been perma banned simply for killing a clan guy. Fifteen minutes later we noticed that it was only temporary as we were finally able to rejoin. We checked the corpse and it had nothing on it. So this douchecanoe clan literally banned everyone on their server temporarily so that they could go get all their buddies gear from the corpse without fear of being fired on and then removed the bans so that everyone could come back. If that isn't the very definition of being a pussy and abusing your server rights I don't know what is. Hey Faethore...you got wrecked bro.

Here is my experience over the past few days. 1.7.2.5 cured all of my graphical issues and I haven't had one instance of tearing since installing it, however it seems to work better with certain patches. 1.7.2.5 + patch 95819 = solid performance with an average of 40-42 fps 1.7.2.5 + patch 95883 = unacceptable performance with an average of 20-25 fps 1.7.2.5 + patch 95913 = the old DayZ again of 1.7.2.3 with beautiful performance and average of 60-70 fps

No it isn't and I'm really not sure what "bugs" you're referring to with the manual install considering there are none.
-
Six is just a waste of time. I've been playing since Friday with the new patch. Manual install is the only way to roll.

Chill brah. No need to get worked up over a technicality.

If I'm reading what you wrote correctly the first mistake I see you made was putting the 1.7.2.5 folder inside the addons folder. You will want to simply select all the files within the 1.7.2.5 folder and cut and paste them in to the addons folder. DO NOT create another folder inside the addons folder. Also, not sure if this makes a difference but I made my @DayZ folder typed exactly like that with the capital D and Z and the addons folder inside is typed in all lower case letters. This probably doesn't make any difference at all but I'm just letting you know what has worked for me. Lastly, I don't know where you saw the instructions on the second part of your question regarding where you said right click on Arma II OA in steam and then putting the "-mod=DayZ" under the set launch options. According to the instructions on the wiki you want to edit the beta command prompt instead and then create a shortcut to your desktop from that command prompt and when you want to play the game just double click that shortcut and it will launch the game. (EDIT: I see it now...they have updated the wiki since I looked at it last month) So now that I see what you're referring to I will give you the instructions for manual install that used to exist in the Wiki page. This will launch the game from the shortcut you will create in to windowed mode. Once the game is up and running just click video options and change the windowed to the option right above it which should be your monitors full resolution. The only difference with this method is that it won't show you as playing DayZ through Steam. I would suggest reversing the steps you took to edit whatever you edited in the Steam properties before beginning to complete my instuctions below. First step is the same like I instructed above. Cut and paste those files in to the addons folder you created. Second step is as follows: Go to C: Program Files - Steam - Steamapps - Common - Arma II OA from here look down the list for the two .cmd files that appear directly before you folders. You want to right click on the one that has the word BETA in it and then click Edit. That file is _runA2CO_beta.cmd Scroll all the way down to the very last line of text/code above the words ENDLOCAL There you will see a line that looks like this: call "%_ARMA2OAPATH%\Expansion\beta\ARMA2OA.exe" "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca" INSERT ;@dayz (all lower case) after the ;ca so that the line looks like this call "%_ARMA2OAPATH%\Expansion\beta\ARMA2OA.exe" "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca;@dayz" Now just click file and save your edit. Exit out of that command prompt editor. Then right click on that beta.cmd file you just edited and create a desktop shortcut. You're done. Just rename that shortcut DAYZ on your desktop and double click it just like any other application. **EDIT** I see the old instructions I just typed out still exist on the Wiki page, but that section regarding how to launch with Steam Overlay is new to me. I simply used the instructions directly above that for Steam Beta Patch Install.

http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/How_to_install_DayZ Follow the step by step instructions on how to complete the manual install and create a shortcut to your desktop to run the game from the command prompt. Leave Six Updater out of the equation. It's just one more thing to worry about.
-
I have never used SU or the Commander program. I did a manual install and created the shortcut to run the game from the CMD as instructed in the manual install instructions on the DayZ wiki page. So I know for a fact I'm running 1.7.2.5. Also, not sure how Vsync would affect things but I have Vsync OFF. I have it off in every game I own. Two other things I have had disabled since starting to play DayZ are Shadow Detal and Postprocess Effects. Both are DISABLED. So....1.7.2.5 + 95417 + Vsync, Shadow Detail, and Postprocess DISABLED = WIN for me

Yes I'm running the new patch. 1.7.2.5 + 95417 = completely flawless for me at the moment (knock on wood)
-
Bro...manual is slower than molasses. That's why the torrent option is there. ALWAYS use the torrent. To help take away your confusion, this time the RAR file available in the manual download area has all of the individual files included within it. That's why the manual download time is so much longer than normal and the file size is larger. With the manual download option you will be looking at about a two hour wait. Use the torrent and you'll be done in two to three minutes.
-
I know you didn't ask me directly but just to clarify I'm still running 95417 and everything is flawless at the moment.

Incredible update hotfix. The loading in to the game is vastly improved and the graphical glitches are completely gone for me. Everything feels so much more fluid now and I'm back to appreciating the game. Just in time for the weekend! Thank you for all your hard work Rocket. Oh and humanity showed up now. I'm -50,000+ with a bandit shawl on my head. Werd.

How is M24 ammo hard to find? DMR ammo is all over the place in the airfield. Just convert the DMR in to four 5 round mags of M24.

is the m4a1 camo sd worth the risk?
subtle replied to drunkenteddybear's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The gun in discussion only fires SD ammo. So again, dafuq you talking about? And no it's not my responsibility to provide you with the source. You were given two separate links in the last five minutes, including my own, and I'm going to trust the information on those two links long before some random chart "developed by Pataclocked" that you decided to contribute. I know, I know...call me crazy but I'm going to take the word of a website that I know is constantly updated over your chart that looks like it was made six months ago. -

subtle replied to drunkenteddybear's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
dafuq you talking about? M4A1 SD does 2722 dps. Not sure how 2 shots at center mass is going to take anyone down unless they have under 5000 blood. Try 5-6 shots. The gun is terribly overrated. It's cool to try out once just to hear it but it's weak as hell compared to many other options. I wouldn't waste my time looking for one. -
Question about computer for dayz
subtle replied to patrickplaysdayz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So you're building a new system and skimping on the GPU?? Negative Ghostrider. Nvidia GTX, not GT. -
Yeah I'm confused. So the guy has good gear and was server hopping the hotel roof like you were so that makes him a hacker? I guess we can all call you a hacker now.

Six Launcher works on my 3g but not DSL!!!
subtle replied to W1NGS16's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I don't know why people even waste time with SixLauncher. Just follow the instructions for the manual install on the Wiki page and you won't have these issues.
