I know it's Alpha but I'm gonna moan anyway thread
Zeshio (DayZ) replied to Jonah_Hobbes's topic in General Discussion
Dude the axe making a bullet sound is classic day Z! I hope that never goes away, haha. -
Server hoppers in high weapon areas.
Zeshio (DayZ) replied to Grumbuck's topic in General Discussion
Agreed, people should see this as a positive. Server hoppers can be more vulnerable because theyre spawning in blind to a hotspot. Sit under a tree and blow em to hell. -
Basically the issues aren't gamebreaking to most people in its current form so they choose to ignore the bad stuff in favor of more fun stuff (perhaps because its still alpha). I agree though that there are glaring issues that need to be fixed, especially the zombie glitching.

Does your character reset EVERY time you join a server?
Zeshio (DayZ) replied to Mori (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I noticed it last night, my first game loaded a character I had been killed in, and then depending on the server it would either start me fresh or load that servers saved character. I'll need to rely more on favorited servers now I think. -
The lack off loot is not right ???
Zeshio (DayZ) replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
I like to loot large areas and close all the doors so players don't realize the place was jacked up. And then i just laugh silently to myself when people go "DaFUQ?!" I was in Electro last night and found plenty o loot, but didn't have time to check the fire station before the flashlight bug hit and I couldn't see in the dark. :-/ -
The game doesn't feel like a zombie apocalypse.
Zeshio (DayZ) replied to Zjasuu's topic in General Discussion
The mod had rain and lightning, didn't it? I'm sure we can expect the same when they do a weather/environment update. -
The dayz mod runs off of Arma 2. So if you don't have Arma 2, then you have the standalone version. The standalone version also has a picture of your character with a background behind them on the starting screen (the mod doesn't). I think if you're running on steam the mod is listed as a mod.

Most issues will be worked out as the game moves along, as PhillyT noted. Once zombies litter the streets again it will be a lot harder for players to rush. There seems to be a mix of zombie speeds now, I think the issue is just in numbers. They do mob up as soon as you've been spotted, so imagine a whole town after one dude makes noise!

Ammunition should be extremely rare
Zeshio (DayZ) replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
First of all, the mosin in real life fires the 7.62x54r round, r for rimmed cartridge. Don't ever stick a Russian 7.62 in your 308 rifle in real life (308 being the same designation as the NATO 7.62x51 round). There is a very minor difference, which is why you must buy that specific ammo for a mosin at the store. The devs do a bad job of defining the round itself in game right now. I've found plenty of mosin ammo in game personally, and I do think some of the rifle rounds are a bit too easy to find. I also think handguns and handgun ammo need a big bump in drop rates. I absolutely hate that you can only reliably find a gun at a military base or airstrip right now. I think it only caters to one playstyle, and makes it harder for other players to get by or have a chance at defending themselves unless they make a bumrush for goodies. If ammo is more dispersed across the map, with less chance for military bases to have a million mags, I think it would solve the problem somewhat. People would be rewarded for combing through cities and not by running to a base to load up (and get violently murdered in the process). -
I was thinking more along the lines of using it against a potential hostage that hasn't surrendered yet to see if they have a gun! I'd rather not have mines in game, it'll wind up like the mod with barbed wire where people would surround drop zones and you can't get anything. (I did spend two hours once removing 100 or so barbed wire fences just to piss people off though)

New Stuff never found before and never mentioned in patch notes
Zeshio (DayZ) replied to Funkmasterflex's topic in General Discussion
It should be clarified the mosin uses 7.62x54r, which is a rimmed round similar to the 7.62x51 (aka .308). It is commonly referred to as the 7.62 Russian. The devs should clarify that if they ever add a .308 battle rifle. The sks/AK47 fires a shortened 7.62x39 cartridge, generally called the 7.62 soviet. The AK-74 shoots a 5.45x39mm cartridge, meant to copy the US 5.56mm M-4 cartridge. They are similar but not interchangable. The Russians like to make their ammo slightly differently than ours. The question is how specific the devs will get with bullet types (and guns), and how will the user know what ammo goes in what gun (descriptions like the mod?) Hope this clarifies ammo a bit for the uninitiated. -
After playing for four hours on a character, I finally ran into not one, but three! Fnx pistols. One problem- they were all missing magazines. Is this a bug, or does someone spawn in and jack all the mags? And if people do that and move servers, i hate you. I've got the ammo, but no magazine now. Woo!

Thinking I'd find some nice goodies at the Factory between Orlovets and Polana, I ventured up the hill and started circling around the walls. Once I had found the opening, I about died. The entire entrance, including the entire factory area inside, was covered with innumerable barbed fences and tank traps [dragons teeth]. However, luck would have it, I had a toolbox and the wiki to tell me how to remove all that debris. If any of you have done this before, you know what a puzzle it is. You have to figure out which fence post for the barbed wire is the middle post, and you have to highlight it towards the tip of the post, so it's very finicky. Combine that with 20 different rows of barbed wire, about 100 posts to look at and work your way towards, and it becomes very burdensome. It took me about 20 or 30 minutes to remove all the barbed wire and tank traps just from the front entrance, but I was super proud! I had busted in! I quickly closed the gate behind me, and started working my way to the main factory. I explored a couple of buildings, killed about 10 zombies in the area, and got to loot some tents. Nothing too special, but fun. Unfortunately, the factory itself was a let down. Wasn't really looking for tires or car windows, so I spent much of my time clearing out the factory of all its various traps for nothing except the sheer satisfaction of sticking it to the server trolls. I must have spent 90 minutes to two hours going through the whole factory due to all that crap. And now we have bear traps? *Slaps forehead

Oil Barrels/Drums locations & related Q's
Zeshio (DayZ) replied to Zeshio (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
@Redshift, I agree, I also have tried shooting the gas tanks for fueling vehicles with no luck. Exploding gas would be a pretty scary weapon! @Dynama, When I cooked meat on them the first time, it was a little finicky. You need to be close to the barrel and highlight the top rim. At least, that's what I remember! I've only done it twice but it saved my life both times. -
