I have seen a few people post what their perfect standalone version of the game is, so I decided to follow and do my own.

I think the idea of a "journal" is superb. Perhaps there could be a special "leg bag" that only holds journals, so that when you do take someone out you could hold onto their journal as a keepsake of sorts. Or it could just record the player name in your journal when you confirm the kill. It's similar to a "dogtag" suggestion I've heard before, but I like your idea of a journal better. As far as the helicopter crash suggestion, I think you just hit the nail on the head. Forgive me if I missed it, but the only thing I could think to add would be the zombies would wear the nations' uniform to make identifying crash sites easier. The only issue with that is the "special forces" soldiers wouldn't really have any particular uniform, but I suppose the lack of a uniform would be just as telling. Overall, these are really good ideas and it's apparent that you've thought these through so congrats on that. We need more posts like these in the forums, and this one definitely needs to be read and discussed. -
It depends honestly. Most mines are meant to maim and terrify, not necessarily to kill. They are mostly used to deny an area, or set off an ambush in what is called "asymmetrical warfare" Of course you wouldn't be "unscathed" but say you step on a M14 or Type 72 "toe-popper" mine, the results in game could be similar to a bear trap with higher blood loss. Plus in a game where morphine mends broken bones, surviving a mine blast doesn't seem all that unreasonable does it? Overall good idea OP, though I could see problems similar to people laying CAT wire in front of buildings just to be dicks. Also as someone else said, there needs to be a way to detect them, such as discolored patches of dirt, dead patches of grass, or slight lumps where they've been placed. Of course if they're surface-laid, then you really only have yourself to blame for not seeing it.

Just got done reading your first entry on your blog, and I must say it was fantastic. Visceral, tense and all around entertaining, I find myself wanting to read more. Also, I dabble a bit in narrative writing myself and have come up with an interesting idea. Your story chronicles the journey of a survivor new to the wasteland. Perhaps I could begin a thread about a grizzled veteran survivor, to give a bit of juxtaposition to your "babe in the woods" and perhaps even an antagonist to your main character, with the two crossing paths on several occasions. If you're interested in a bit of collaboration, let me know through a PM. If not, then I applaud you for your wonderful story and for inspiring my writing bug again. Happy Hunting, Doctor_sloth (P.S. I don't know whether or not your body gets ejected if you die inside a vehicle, but I do know that you can pass out in a vehicle and that you can loot unconscious bodies. So unless you saw a death message, he might just be taking a nap in the back.

You should start a bounty hunting group and name it "Wolves of the Wasteland" or something like that. Have a home server somewhere where you can gear up and gather up posses to go out and track your quarry down. Set up a pricing table, have dedicated members...it could actually be pretty cool. Sort of like the Wasteland Medics have set up.

Yes you can headshot a player. And, from my experience, it's 100% lethal. -
Yes, click "settings" and there's a button that says, "launch DayZ" click that and enjoy.

Because the ARMA engine hates you and everybody else... But seriously, it is a bug, and everybody loses a weapon to it at some point or another. I wouldn't sweat it though, 1911's are pretty common loot. Best bet are the apartments in Berezino, I always find like five of them there. Happy Hunting -

I'm not sure if you're aware, but in the real world, a .22 will kill you just as dead as a 40mm. And referring to the "shitty" sniper rifles at the military's disposal? It's all about the operator. In regards to the OP? Nah, I enjoy the feeling of crosshairs on my back when I'm roaming around. Gives me one of them adrenaline rush thingies. -

You want civilian clothes or camo clothes? Or a ghillie suit? Because we can set up a trade if you like. -
(Assuming a clean install, this is what I did) Step 1- Download 6 launcher from DayZ website Step 2- Download DayZ (this will be at 1.7.2.4) Step 3- Download DayZ commander (http://www.dayzcommander.com/) Step 4- Go to "versions" in the Commander, "check now" and then upgrade DayZ Step 5- Enjoy the new version!
