I understand the suggestion, but what I don't get is the point. What's the point if the zombie is unconscious for 10 minutes? Most likely you'll be out of the area by then, and they'll just shamble around aimlessly again. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but I am legitimately confused as to what this would accomplish.

Fix this deathmatch junk
Doctor_sloth replied to =ATS= Striker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I find that part of your rant particularly amusing. Now, calm down, take a deep breath and think. Creating a forum post like this isn't the way to go about airing your grievances, because no one is going to listen to you and you're going to get replies like, "g0 teh fuck @way n00b ur just n0t l33t enuf" How are they going to stop player killing? I don't know, and after reading your post, I'm still uninformed. Have a problem with something? Think of a solution. If that solution sounds dumb, think of another one. Keep doing that until you've come up with something original, and if you can't.....then leave it to the devs. Creating a forum thread when you're angry solves nothing and starts "flame wars" which benefit no one. (And if you think the 1 minute timer after "firing your gun" is a good idea, maybe you should join the 3,000 other people that have come up with that suggestion.) -
I think this one can see into the future.

I like how your signature says "I might be a bandit." Yeah, I think you might.

It's a pain in the balls, but try looking for the yellow tail on the end of the arrow. Though sometimes, you just ain't gonna' get them shits back.

Well, I am truly sorry that you feel the way you do, though I am inclined to agree with you. I agree that there are elements of the community that are ignorant, immature, and agonizingly petty. That said, most of us are not. My suggestion to you would be to come back for the Beta, or even the standalone. The bugs will be fixed, and an endgame will be in place to reduce the amount of what I call "homicidal boredom" I understand that you are frustrated, just like I was at one point, and a break from this mod may be the only cure. It's certainly worked for me. Then, try and find a group of players who have a bigger goal in mind, whether it is a bandit group dedicated to wreaking havoc on clans, or a group of medics trying to bring a little humanity back to the Wasteland. Or, you maybe this mod isn't for you. That is certainly a possibility, and not a bad one contrary to popular belief. Hope you find better fortune in the future and remember, we're not all knuckle-dragging fucknuggets.

You have to have a second person give you a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, I'm waaaaaaayyyy up North from were you are so if you're looking for help right now, it would be a while before I got there. PM me with your steamid and we'll see if we can set something up.

You can pick them off of zombies, you just have to look directly at it. It takes a bit of practice, but you'll get the hang of it if you stick with it.

My fellow players, a revelation which has occurred to me:
Doctor_sloth replied to chunkeymonkey79's topic in New Player Discussion
You know that no matter what else you post on this forum, every time I see "chunkymonkey79" I'm going to picture you as Mr. Incredible. -
Well, now you know to stay the fuck out of Elektro, if you like having your head remain on your shoulders that is. Also, the same applies for Cherno.

I find it funny how people can't aim
Doctor_sloth replied to Yeni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It slays me that people refuse to boot up ARMA 2, launch the Armory mission, and get acquainted with the shiny new toy they just found. It's what I do every time I pick up a rifle I've never used, and it only takes around 15 minutes. Then I launch DayZ, go have a smoke while it's loading (no seriously I have enough time to do this) and resume playing with my new knowledge. I don't know why "practice" is such a foreign concept to some people. -

I agree with what you're saying about the current game market, but I do take offense to the statement on the lack of a middle class of gaming. I personally spent two grand on a gaming computer, and I also own an Xbox360 which I play regularly. Many of my friends do the same. What's the first thing I ever played a game on? A PS1. I missed out on a lot of the "old school" games that people love to regale about because sometimes there was a choice between electricity and having the water on. The purpose of my comment on your post is not to start an argument about the things you've said, it's the idea behind your post that I'd like to discuss. DayZ is a great mod. Given time, it will be a great game. But Black Ops 2 will still make billions of dollars, and so will the next one they put out. Minecraft is one of my favorite games, and has been a commercial success, but it's not going to change the market. The fact is that I agree with you on the point that people need to man the fuck up and quit whining because DayZ doesn't hold their hand and kills you every chance it gets. But the fact of the matter is that the "golden days" of old-school gaming are over. Sure a niche of people will support DayZ and I'm sure it will be judged a success commercially. But it's not going to make a big enough impact to make the companies that dominate the industry care about. Will they make copies? Probably. But COD, Battlefield, MOH, Madden, FIFA and the like are not going to change their formula to make games more "hardcore" It's less like the glass is cracking, and more like a beautiful diamond sparkling in the darkness. TL;DR? The good ol' days are over, but there will always be gems like Dayz to remind us of the way things are. -
Hyperactive anti-server-hopping measure?
Doctor_sloth replied to hatfieldcw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You may have joined a server that's not connected to the hive, or the Devs may have introduced something on the sly to combat server-hopping. I hopped around onto four different servers tonight (trying to find one were it wasn't raining as it kills my FPS) and have had no issues. I would suggest trying to join another server and seeing if you get your gear back. If not, oh well back to looting barns I suppose. -
I have a story about this but seeing as how it's a wall of text, I'll just post a link to it. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/46879-mercy/ It's good that you've had positive experiences with other survivors, but be wary and don't put yourself out there. Unless you don't really care if somebody who's bored kills you because it takes less effort than avoiding or helping you. Which is how I feel about the whole PvP mechanic.

I have a few problems w/ the game
Doctor_sloth replied to PeNguinn97's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
It's because you're both using the same CD key, which is what the Hive uses to track your gear/stats and the like. You'll have to buy a separate copy if you want to play together. As far as the avatar goes....I say wizardry. Good ol' Wizardry. -
This actually made me giggle. +1 to schoolhouse humor I guess...

I don't know what the hell I'd do without my number pad. I don't even acknowledge the 10 numbers at the top of my keyboard anymore.

I think he accidentally the entire thread. (Seriously what is the question here? I've read it twice and know my head hurts.)

This is a story about the only killing that I feel bad about. I'm not a bandit, and this isn't a murder story. I only kill out of self-defense, or dire need. So if you're looking for that, just go ahead and skip it.( And yeah I know, wall of text but I feel it's worth reading) I had just spawned near the docks at Cherno, after being eaten alive by Zeds the night before. Refreshed and reinvigorated, I set out to rustle up some gear. I found some rudimentary gear, water bottle, binoculars, cans of beans, etc., as well as a hatchet. Feeling like I had enough to make it inland, and having had enough of Cherno, I begin to make my way North. As I round a corner I meet the business end of a double-barrel, pointed directly at my face. I groan to myself, figuring that Death has found me with his icy embrace once again. But as the seconds tick by, the player in front of me does nothing. I hesitantly press the caps lock button and say, "What's up man?" He stands there for a few more seconds and I press the button once again, "Are you on Direct Chat?" I ask. Suddenly the chat crackles to life,"Hello, hello? Can you hear me?" "Yes!" I reply, "Can you hear me?" He responds that he can and introduces himself as Nick. He asks if I'd like to team up for awhile, so we do. I suggest we move inland, to avoid the usual war zone that is Cherno. He thinks this is a good idea, though he was going to make a stop at the hospital first. We decide against it and begin moving North. After a few hours of looting and pillaging, we've racked up a few dozen zombie kills and had some interesting chats about DayZ, as well as just general small talk. I've managed to pick up a 1911 with a few clips, but have kept the axe for silence purposes, and Nick has found a lee enfield. We've found a barn in the middle of a field somewhere south of Stary, and Nick has gone in to loot it while I stayed outside to keep the zombies out. He rustles around for awhile, and tells me he found a CZ500. Excited for my new found friend, I stand up and walk towards the door to see his shiny new rifle, when it happens. I don't even hear the gunshot, only the sickening whip-crack of the round zipping through my chest. My character falls, and the hourglass appears on my screen. I'm already down to less than 5k blood, and gushing out quickly. More bullets ricochet around me and I'm sure I've had it, when I hear the booming retorts of the CZ Nick just picked up. A death message appears, and Nick shouts out in his victory, "Nailed that fucker! Right in his head dude, right in his head!" I congratulate him, and kindly ask if he can help me.(It wasn't so kind, I was freaking out) "Sure thing bud, just let me come down to you." He quickly makes his way to me and bandages my wounds. "Thanks man," I say, "now we just need to wait for the hourglass to go away." He agrees, and stands vigil over my body until the lengthy timer runs out. We search for the body of the guy Nick merced, but in all the excitement, he'd forgotten where it was or the guy disconnected. Either way, we began to move North East, hoping to avoid Stary and get the the hospital in Berezino. About fifteen minutes later, we come across another barn (different model, the one-story type with only one entrance) with a few Zeds outside. I move up and kill two, but then faint as my blood is below 4k at this point. Nick, who is closer to the now aggro'ed last zombie, looks at me and asks if I'm okay. I tell him to watch his back but it's too late, the damage is done. The zombie falls on him, breaking his leg before he can dispatch it. The gunshot from the CZ, as anyone who has fired it knows, aggro'ed the final unseen zombie in the barn. It comes rushing out, flailing and roaring. It sinks it's teeth into Nick's back as I regain consciousness and put it down with a shot from my pistol. "You okay?" I ask. No response. I wait a few seconds and ask ,"Nick, you there man?" Silence. I check my chat, when a few seconds later I hear "Dude.....I'm fucked." I look and see he is bleeding, and badly by the look of it. "No worries man, " I say, "I'll just patch you up with my banda...." My voice trails off as I remember using my last bandage to heal myself sometime before. "Yeah, I'm out too," he says, understanding my realization. My mind races. "We're not too far from Stary, just wait here and I'll make a run to get you a bandage" There is a pause as he considers this. "You'll pass out before you get half way, and I'll be dead anyway. Plus, my leg is broken." Desperate, I suggest the unthinkable, "Just log out, give me ten minutes, and log back in. I'll have a bandage by then I promise." There is no pause this time, "No way dude, I ain't disconnecting like some kind of punk-ass motherfucker." The only sounds are those of the wind softly rustling the leaves in the trees, and the cheerful singing of birds. Nick is laying on the ground slowly bleeding out, and I am at a loss for words. "You still got that pistol dude?" he asks me. "Yeah," I respond quietly into the mic, knowing what he wants me to do and frustrated that there's no other option. "Cheer up man,"he says, "shit like this always happens. If it means anything, you're one hell of a partner, and this is the most fun I've had playing with a stranger." He makes a joke about taking what he just said out of context and we both laugh. I draw my pistol and look down the sights. "You ready?" "Yeah man, keep on keeping on brother" "Gentlemen, it's been an honor and a privilege to serve with you." He calls me a homo for making a Titanic reference, and we laugh again. I pull the trigger. My Murder count goes up by 1. A totally manly tear rolls down my face. (Edit: Nick, If you're reading this I still have your CZ. It's racked up about 60 zombie kills since then, and has been a constant companion for the past couple of weeks. Good luck wherever you are, and PM me if you want to group up again. Keep fightin' the good fight brother- Doctor_sloth)

It sounds like they were friendly towards you, even if they did kill your buddy. There's no real way to "accidentally" bandage someone, as you have to be very close to do it. Also alternating "q" and "e" is a way to show friendly intent. But hey, better to not take chances right?

You have to press "esc" then hit abort and rejoin from the lobby. Also hitting "respawn" will also work.

Points for creativity, but I think this would just open the door to more trolling. And as we all know, we have far too much of that already. Player Ghosting, alt-f4'ing, putting up tank traps and wire obstacles in front of high value loot buildings, etc. etc. Something like polluting a water would give the Trollozoids a friggin hard-on like you wouldn't believe.

Murder make in cherno. (a recount of my first kill)

May you cut many more threads in your journey, and bring murder make to all those who oppose you. Nerding-out aside, I like it. Execution style is the way to go. -
Lighting Buildings/Camps/Players on fire with matches.
Doctor_sloth replied to esham (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
"Some men just want to watch the world burn..." Including myself. If I can't rid the world of the infection, I'll burn it to the ground around me. (But seriously, it's probably a horrible idea even though I'd personally love it. I'm a bit of a firebug.) -
Try the markets. Otherwise, find yourself some matches and a knife and have a constant supply of meat. Coincidentally, matches are most usually found in markets as well. Don't worry, if you die you can always find the stuff you're carrying again. My suggestion, if you do die of course, is to make a run into one of the towns when you first spawn.
