    I died...

Hah. The other day I was playing with a friend, sweeping houses for loot. By then I had a fnx45 with a full mag, an axe, and.. not much else. He was relatively newly-spawned, wearing a terrible white shirt and yellow construction helmet which made him look like a Village People castout (as well as a huge target). So, we split up to look at houses faster. I swept through one set of houses, he swept through another. I didn't find anything useful, we decided to join up again. So I went to our rendezvous point, and saw someone approach, green jacket, gas mask, carrying an axe, running towards me. I shouted to him over voice "look out! enemy incoming!". I had my pistol ready, so I fired. Single shot to the head. The target went down like a sack of potatoes. So my buddy shouts "enemy hit me! I'm unconscious!". I looked around for some other incoming enemies............. only to realize the gas-mask-wearing, axe-toting tango I had just dropped was actually my friend, who had just found a set of new clothes. I had a defibrillator on my bag and tried to bring him back, but it didn't work - I suppose I would have needed an epi-pen shot as well. After that, we had a good laugh (his words: "what the hell! you never one-shot-kill actual enemies when we get into firefights!") and decided to always warn one another whenever we changed clothing.
  3. Happened to me once. I have absolutely no idea what caused it, but I liked it. Would like to know if it's possible to replicate, as well.
  4. Yea, I do use a voice server. It doesn't fit into the game's "logic", tho. I'd much rather see a very common radio tool for open communication (maybe even present on spawn), and a rare cellphone which you could add contacts to (working basically the same as a TS server, but without the alt-tabbing and IP-scribbling). And again, if it wasn't for the fully-open sidechat, we wouldn't have had that nice adventure ("get to the chopper!" while being shot at).
  5. I don't think side-chat is an answer, long-term, but I'd love to see radios with several frequencies that could be dialed in. I just posted this on a KoS thread, but it fits here, so I'll quote:
  6. The hero's sleeves are awfully visible against a woodland background. Anyone know if I can keep the scarf by using camo?
  7. I was playing yesterday on a non-official server with side-chat (ie. global text chat) on. It was one of the my coolest DayZ experiences ever. Over side-chat, people were talking joking, making the experience a lot less lonely from the start. Mind you, players there seemed reasonably mature. When a guy spotted me, he spoke through sidechat, we joined together to look for loot, and then another guy, who had a chopper, offered to give as a ride. Overall, great friendly atmosphere in the server. As the chopper tried to land north of elektro, he typed out: "Get to the choppa!!!". As me and my new friend rushed to get in in the middle of an open field, we began to hear shots. I managed to get into the MG seat of the chopper, and when I looked around, the guy who was with me was hit by a sniper round and died. "F**K! go up go up we're being shot at", I said to the pilot, and as he began the liftoff, he too, was shot and killed. The chopper fell back down, I tried to access the pilot seat, and for whatever reason, I was unable to. So I tried to run away zigzagging through the open field, but was 1-shotted by the same sniper. So, yea, I think the one thing that will definitely help with KoS will be communication. Not necessarily open side chat on global servers, but radios and cellphones. We could only get this awesome scenario to happen because 1) we communicated to set up the heli pickup and 2) other guys saw us typing and planned an ambush. Fortunately, my pilot friend respawned and managed to get the chopper back, I too respawned and after being killed by the same sniper again, finally managed to get a motorcycle and some basic gear, and spent the next four hours cruising through chernarus.
  8. Known bug. Very common. Occurred to me a lot in the previous versions, and happened twice with the new one already. The big difference between then and now, is that previously you would "die" on spawn, and appear in the debug plains with all your items (and you could be moved back to the beach if you reconnected). If you then managed to get back to your body (often after an hour or so of running), you'd have effectively duplicated everything you had. Now, when this happens post-1.7.2.5, you're left with no items, no backpack, nothing, thus greatly increasing the chance that you'll die of thirst, hunger, or to a player/zombie attack when trekking back to the body - and increasing the chance you'll lose everything if the server restarts, or someone loots your body, while you're running back. Before, it was a nuisance because you'd be thrown far away from where you were, but could be beneficial if you could return to the body. Now, it's just a huge chance of dying and losing everything, with a slim chance of getting back to the body and recovering your items. All in all, it's made the game worse for the players by creating a significant chance of losing everything through no fault of your own. And no, It's not related to server-hopping; I've been playing the same server since the patch, and it's happened to me twice, as I said before.
  9. Lead pipes. Wrenches. Wooden clubs wrapped in barbed wire. Hammers. Machetes, knives, cleavers. Really, any kind of improvised melee weapon that's easy to find, even if it doesn't cause a lot of damage. Would require the melee system to improve a bit, tho. Oh, and a chainsaw, of course.
  10. They work on some servers, and are bugged on most, ime.
  11. It does seem funny, doesn't it? That's the exact type of feedback the DayZ team wants, I'm sure. Experimenting while they can.
  12. I'm having the same problem, but only on a handful servers. Unfortunately, my "home server" where all my stuff is stashed is one of them. I've waited over 30 minutes on the "loading" screen to no avail. Weird thing is, it started happening monday afternoon. It worked fine on monday morning and there were no updates or other game changes in that meantime. A few other servers take a bit to load (maybe one minute or so), but go through fine. Most others load almost instantly.

    best video ever..

    How about a thrilling 100-zombie synchronized dance-off?
  14. Most I've seen on a single barn is five. You seem to have hit the jackpot!
  15. They still don't. And other tents that were working before now have static inventories (reverting on server restart to whatever contents were inside pre-patch, thus becoming useless for storage and creating a duping possibility). The latest patch has further broken the very thing it was meant to fix.
  16. Not every place needs to be Boomheadshot-roflmao-trollolololol-town. I like northern towns because they're quieter, but you can never be 100% sure uou won't bump into a player there.
  17. Please, please, please, prioritize fixing the tents. My old trusty tent that worked perfectly won't save anything after the 1.7.2.4 patch, but will rather just revert to the items that were inside pre-patch. The tents that didn't work before don't work now, either. Right now, I've lost most of the incentive to play, since whatever loot I grab and can't carry is lost forever.
  18. Confirming what I posted previously: Tents DO NOT work. Old tents that were bugged are still bugged (completely empty on a server restart), and tents that were previously working fine are now broken (no matter what I add or remove from them, and despite saving, they always revert to the inventory that was present before the 1.7.2.4 patch). I tried it with a brand new tent, and it always erases contents upon server restart, too.

    iPad

Yup. My trusty iPad is always on, DayZdb map open. I also have the GPS and map equipment ingame, but a compass+iPad suffices in pretty much all situations.
  20. I spawned there once. What happened is my normal character (about 12 days old at the time) spawned at the debug plains when I connected, instead of at his normal position. I quickly aborted, and upon reconnection I was inside that building in N. Sobor. I managed to get out by moving to the outer part of the wall and using the vault button.
  21. Best way to regain health solo is to eat a cow. Oh, realism =]
  22. Found a camo in the apartment buildings in Berezino. Because I had read some people were having trouble with backpacks disappearing, I unequipped my coyote (put in a tent) before equipping the camo. Lo and behold, once the came was equipped, I had another (empty) coyote in my back! A nice little gift, especially considering tent troubles deleted a coyote I had in storage when the server reset this morning.
  23. This has nothing to do with alpha testing. It was a change made by an official arma 2 patch.
