What if Day Z had a story?

What i think the story should be like: You are walking around Elektro and go inside a house and see a note on the top of a table saying "I don't think we will be able to stay here much longer. I heard the military is setting up a base at the airfield and trying to evacuate as many people as they can. I'm sorry son, all i can do right now is hope that you are ok,". On your way out of the house you notice a picture of a man, a woman a teenager and a baby. At this point, i can guarantee you the most people will be curious and will want to know what the fuck happened to the family that used to live on that house and if the person is curious enough, this person will start to make his/her way to the NW Airfield. Now, imagine if on the way, this person came across a car crash, and noticed that the driver (Still inside the car) was wearing the same shirt the man on the picture was wearing? I guess this would make the person even more curious. When the person finally gets to the airfield, all that this person can find is destruction, dead bodies and something written in blood at the wall of the firestation "That is our last stand". Well, there is a story (A very cliche one that i used to explain my point of view) that never even mention Zeds, it only gives you an idea of what happened to that particular family. Now imagine that most people in chernarus would have a story to "tell". You could have the story of a virologist trying to find out what is happening while trying to keep his family alive, a story about a Hill Billy that managed to escape using a bot, a teacher trying to save the students. I think the most interesting thing about that is that you would have different stories showing different points of view of what really happened on chernarus, or at least, what happened on elektro. I like the idea of having objects telling a story (Like four shoes at the entrance of a house), but i think that it doesn't help the game at all, 95% of the people will just past by the pairs of shoes at the door and will never even notice that, the other 5% will say "Well, that is sad" and that's about it. If you have different people actually telling their stories, i can guarantee that this forum will need a "Story Speculation" section, cause people will want to talk about the "Elektro Family" and compare what they saw to what other people have seen. This would make the story a huge puzzle without an answer, you could only guess what really happened.
  2. You sound like a retarded 12 y/o flamer... STFU.

    Skill System in DayZ?

Not even gonna waste my time answering that shit. You didn't read anything, so don't comment, OK? The idea of the skill system is getting rid o casual players, so read that shit or shut up. If u really had read that shit, you would get the idea, unfortunately, looks like your laziness doesn't let you read anything longer than 1 sentence. BTW, this "make 10.000" horse shoes is called Grind, in case you don't know. If you had any acknowledge about online gaming you would be able to understand the difference between a level based game (WoW) and skill based games (Ultima), and understand the difference between a grindfest and the idea that the OP is purposing.

    Skill System in DayZ?

I doubt u even read something... You say that we don't want people affecting our well being and set our progression back? I don't care if i get killed on this game, all i need to do is run 15 minutes... I would love to have something REALLY affecting my progression (And other people progressions aswell.). Did you ever play Diablo 3 on Hardcore? Gotta tell you is WAAAY harder than DayZ. Why? Because you really put some effort in your character, and if he dies, that's it, you are done, there's no 15 minutes running back, no friend watching over your body, you just lost EVERYTHING. You can tell me that Diablo 3 is a different game, but the concept of Hardcore Diablo and DayZ is the same, except the fact that if you die on DayZ, is just a minor annoyance, and if you die o Diablo 3 hardcore, you won't be playing it for like 2 days at least (Untill you calm down). I remember i used to have a monk on normal, and i used to die really often (Inferno), then i made a Barbarian on hardcore and when i got to lvl 45 i guess, i had more adrenaline than i ever had playing my Monk. The skill system would add some real loss to the table, it would make you shit your pants everytime u heard a gun firing, it would make you fight for survival more than ever, cause you wouldn't want to lose the character that you invested so much time playing. You guys want some realism? There it is. As i said before, at this moment, dayz is a giant TDM, and there's no hardcore feeling involved in the game, everything is just 15 minutes away from death. PS: You guys really should read more than 2 sentences before making comments.
  6. PvP Is part of the game, and it is great, but u must see that PvP is not the main purpose of the game. There should be PvP, but not a TDM, and using a pistol, shotgun or assault rifle should have consequences. If mechanics were properly working, the zeds should hear the shots, chase you and kill you (Not necessarily kill you, but be a threat). As the game currently is, the zombies sometimes don't hear the shots, and if they do, u just enter a house, wait for them to come in and get out using the back door. You watch "The Walking Dead" so you should know there's a reason they don't go cowboy and shoot everything they see.

    Ideal opening-track in DayZ

Jean Pierre Taieb - The Divide Just wanted to give a reason: I think that the game should be more about the drama of the apocalypse than about our nerd wish of smacking heads.
  8. The only problem about having 150 people + zed on the game is that PVP must have consequences. You should be scared of using your non-melee weapon, and it should be your last resort. At least that is what i think.

    Skill System in DayZ?

After reading the whole thread i feel like 90% of the guys here didn't even read the OP, which is completely stupid. There was someone talking about PvP on the first page and i found it hilarious the concept of "People who play PvP won't like it". Well, i think that people who play DayZ for PvP, should go play BF3 (I'm not criticizing the game, i really like BF3), since BF3 is a competitive game. If you can't handle playing BF3, deal with it, go play fucking Hello Kitty, cause we don't need a fuckin TDM on DayZ. ATM DayZ is like Noshahr Canals, with some zombies and Food/Drink system. No one cares about dying, no one cares about progression, no one cares about shit besides being "the most badass motherfucker on ther fucking game". DayZ is not about PvP! DayZ is a Post-zombie-apocalypse simulator, and is described by rocket himself as a social experience, right? Well, i ask you where is the "social experience" part at the current state of the mod? There's no social experience, because no one cares about life or death. If you die, u aren't losing anything, u can just go back to your corpse and get your gear back. Do you call that player-skill? I call that 30 minutes of reading a guide about how using a compass or map on google. Is that fun? Hell yeah, it is! If you die, will you forget about how to do it? Nope. So, if you aren't losing anything by dying except 15 minutes of your life, why would you be afraid of dying? I see people talking about how they want the game to be realistic. Well, guess what? In real life, you can't be an awesome doctor, awesome helicopter pilot, awesome driver, awesome shooter, awesome butcher, awesome everything! Then why would you want to be all of that in a game that you said you wanted to be realistic? Because you can't trust other people and you want to be a lone wolf? Well, i'm really sry if i'm not 14 years old and don't like the "lone wolf" concept anymore. A skill system like the one the OP described would be great and it would force people to interact. Do you need a medic on your group? Well, maybe the guy you just killed 5 minutes ago was a doctor, you didn't take your time to ask him, so now your friend is gonna die. Karma is a bitch, both IRL and In game. Do you need a lock picker? A butcher? A mechanic? why don't you ask the guy crossing the street instead of just killing him? That would create a real mechanic on the game. i.e.: I need someone to fix my car, and i noticed that the guy that was crossing the street had some tools with him, therefore making me assume he is a mechanic. Should i kill him and not be able to fix my car, should i try to talk to him, expose myself and get shot or should i try to make him drop his weapon and make him a hostage till he fix my car? I decide to make him a hostage, and while we are walking back to my car, he is planning some way to get the hell out of there, because he thinks that after he fix my car, i'm gonna kill him. He is interested on the car, so he let me walk him all the way to the car and start fixing it, waiting for the right moment to strike me with his crowbar. I get distracted, he kills me, fix the car and get the hell out of there. Now, that is some social experience. I think the skill system could contribute to the gameplay, and the ideas of the OP need some improvement, but the concept is great. PS: There's another way to make things like that, which are mini-games. Using things like mini-games to fix a car, cut an animal, open a door, treat someone who is injured would give players the freedom to only master the things they think are necessary for them, so in my group someone would be awesome at car fixing minigames, another person would specialize at the lock-pick minigames and another one could learn the Medical minigames, so if you are really terrible at fixing a car, you should find someone who can do it, and maybe become friends with this person (Or just kill the poor bastard after your car is fixed).
  10. http://media.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/files/2012/05/Pipeline-001.jpeg If third-person was like that, i don't think it would be broken at all. You wouldn't be able to see what is happening behind your character, you wouldn't be able to stalk people because the camera would be way too close to your character, you wouldn't be able to go prone and see people behind cover. I do agree that driving, piloting and things like that, should be locked to first person, but they would have to improve the first person mode (copy/paste BF3, cause i never heard about anyone having motion sickness on BF3). The reason i think that you should be locked to first person while you drive is because getting shot while driving would actually have some impact. Shooting on the car's window could potentially cause an accident.
  11. There was a Q&A with Matt where the mods asked him questions about the stand-alone. He said the zombies would be faster than they are right now, so i think it will also make them by far harder, even more if they fix things like zombies walking inside houses. Imagine zombies running faster than you, hitting harder and "running" inside houses? You would HAVE to kill them, no one would be able to just ignore the zeds. they would actually start to have some impact on the game. You wanna shoot you AS50? Go ahead, but be advised that you will most likely die if you don't have a good plan to take out the zeds that will come after you, cause they will be running like crazy and punching like mike tyson. Of course they would have to fix/make a better stealth system, so people would have a way to avoid zeds.
  12. Did you guys ever hear about A.C.R.E? They could just implement A.C.R.E on the stand-alone (For those who don't know, A.C.R.E is a Radio simulator mod for Arma 2 that turns your Teamspeak into a direct channel/radio system. You guys should definitely google it up). I also think that they could get some ideas from other mods, like the medical system on ACE, where if you get shot, u may pass out, then someone has to examine you and check you symptoms, and treat you according to your symptoms. i.e.: I got shot, and my teammate is trying to help me. He examines my symptoms and on the top right corner of the screen, a message pops up telling him symptoms like "Severe blood loss, unconscious, heavy pain, no heart rate", he then proceeds to make a CPR, apply a tourniquet and epipens. There's also a system where the person can drag or carry you around, if the person choose to drag you, the person will still be able to shoot, but move slower, if choose to carry you, the person will move slightly faster, but won't be able to shoot. BTW, while you are unconscious, your screens goes black (Sometimes your character open up his eyes, and you can see things for 2 seconds before blacking out again) and you can't communicate. I think this system would be incredibly immersive, even more when you consider the diseases. People would need to actually learn how to treat cholera and other diseases inside the game.
  13. I don't think that 150 is that much. As long as they do a good job and and change the way the game works, it should be fine. The problem atm is the fact that they have a giant map that has no use, cause there are only 4 places on the map that u need/must/want/should to go (Cherno, Elektro, NWAF and Stary). If they make a poor job, we will have 50 guys at cherno, 50 guys at elektro, 25 at nwaf and 25 at stary, but if they make a good job and give you reasons to go to other cities, there shouldn't be a problem.
  14. I don't think so. I think places like cherno and elektro will probably the focus of many diseases, and people will probably avoid going there unless it is extremely necessary. I think that going to cherno and elektro will be almost like suicide, cause you will not only expose yourself to bandits, you will be exposing yourself to diseases, so even if you are successful on your run, you will end up having a bad time. I hope we see more people spread throughout the map.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

I can see your point but please don't be soo dramatic, it is not like we r poking him with forks and yelling for information. He may not have expected it but from the moment he accepted it, it became his JOB, some people do not expect to become a garbage collector, but they don't stop collecting the fucking trash just because they r not felling like doing it. He made the best mod of 2012, he is now developing a game with the company that made the original game he modded and is getting paid for that, that really must be a nightmare. I'm not crying because i want the SA right now, i'm not asking him to come here on the forums and say something, i'm only asking him to use his power and give information to an employee who would then come here and give us the information. It's a fuckin company FFS, it's not one man, they have employees who can and should come here and give us an update on the situation. Oh, i didn't paid for the game? Put a pre-purchase and i'll be glad to pay for it, if it will give me access to some info. I see people coming here and saying how sorry they are about rockets depression, but as i said before, rocket is not the only person who works for Bohemia. In fact, i guess we shouldn't be complaining about rocket, we should be complaining about bohemia itself.
  16. Am i the only one thinking that some shit went extremely bad and they might have given up on the SA but don't wanna say it yet? I'm not trying to be a troll, a bitch or anything like that, but if u judge by what is happening, i wouldn't be surprised to hear that. I know depression is fucked up, but he could ask some of the developers to come by the forums and give us an update on how things are going (Even if it was only to tell us that the SA was delayed). Since he didn't do that, i'm starting to think that there's something that goes beyond what is being speculated here. This may sound like a conspiracy but if i were on his shoes, i would be fuckin scared to tell people the SA wouldn't come out.

Would be great to have this amount of skins on DayZ, gj.
  18. I was making my way out of elektro with some friends when i was turn into a fuckin zombie by some fuckin hacker or something. When i realize that i was a zombie i disconnected from the server and tried to log on another server, but i didn't work, cause when i logged on the other server, i was still a MOTHERFUCKIN ZOMBIE. I died from blood loss for some reason, my friends tried to loot my body to no avail, since the body was gone for some reason, but they could hear the flies sound. Lost a DMR, a M4A1 CCO SD (If i'm not wrong bout the name), and assloads of food for my camp. Yes, i'm QQing, and wanted to share my pain, if anyone else went through this situation, please post here, cuz i would like to feel like i'm not the most unlucky motherfucker ever. Dying on a Firefight? OK! Dying cuz u was turn into a motherfuckin zombie? FUCK THAT SHIT! PS: Server US 65

  21. Well, i'm thinking about buying Arma 2: Operation arrowhead and use the Arma 2 Free to run the mod, but i saw that there's a HUUUUGE difference on the graphics quality from Arma 2 to Arma 2 Free. My question is: I know that i need to buy the Operation arrowhead to run the mod, but do i have to buy the Arma 2 to get better graphics, or the mod runs using the Operation arrowhead (Which i presume that has better graphics)? Please, help me with that, cuz the graphics of Arma 2 Free are terrible.
  22. m00tley

    I need some help please.

I'm not saying i'm a graphical whore, i'm just saying that the Arma 2 looks like ps2, while arma 2 free looks like freakin ps1. But thanks anyways.
