-[KGC]- Take that step to the next generation of DayZ with 1.8.2!
Boonies replied to Blite's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Just a heads-up - seems to be stuck on "creating" for the last 30 minutes or so (checked in /group and few other guys having same problem). DZ Commander and manual arma login with above IP same thing. Cheers for the server and good work, following is intended purely constructively :) (Based on playing the server for a fair while - not sure how long but a fair few hours, had enough Dayz experience to know the "feel" of the server as it stands after that time :D) - Walkers - as phL was getting at, thing is; most folk choosing to play a "hardcore" dayz server are likely to have above average experience/competency dealing with zeds. So whilst I absolutely agree supercharged walkers will catch out the unwary, your standard demographic of fairly experienced players will not have much trouble doing the supermarket aisle tango or ensuring multiple escape routes when scouting a barn. Have had no problem at all so far, either dodging or kiting 'em away long enough for me to loot. Guess its the age old "cant be all things to all people" :) - Water/drinks - great, no probs there. Havent found water bottle in a while, drinks cans are sparse enough, I like it :) Although once you've got a tent/ab's, you can hop from water source to water source, but that's fine, tent/ab's rare enough. - Food - cos its "pvp quiet" as the server's new, foraging supermarkets has been safe enough and have more food than I can shake a stick at. Also found it pretty quick to tool up with the axe/knife/matches survival combo. So only suggestion would be reduce food spawns if you want to put that on par with drink? Its definitely very skewed in favour of food atm, or at least has been my experience thus far. - Fog - love the atmosphere and once the pvp kicks in will make it even more fun :) It's a bit "radial fog of war" though, feels a bit like a "slightly" clunky imposed visibility restriction which (while great) is done better by a few of the other fog scripts on armaholics. Can't remember their names, but there's a ground fog one you can customise height levels and change color value (sepia ground fog encouraging crawling is great :D) If I remember the name of the fog, Ill pm you. As I say, please don't take the above negatively - you're the one putting the effort in and providing the server, so much appreciated! Just would like to see a community of real genuine hardcore survivalists coming together here and as wrong as I may be, I think the above might encourage that - my gut feeling is that you're trying to find folk who wince in pain when they see these "1000+ vehicles! Tanks! Jets! Experience the true zombie apocalypse!" servers :D Gl with the server! -
Cant believe Ive not seen that one before - made my laugh my ass off, cheers mate :D

Looking for mature players to start a group
Boonies replied to seze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Silly question but Ill ask anyhoo - Im assuming EU servers are gonna be a no no? -
I suppose its all relative to what you want - its funny, at the moment I have no problems at all sneaking around without peeing off zeds in heavily built-up areas, so I guess its a matter of level of expectation; if you're looking for a game where its really tough on the pve front, you wont mind spending best part of half an hour infiltrating a small hamlet or something. If (more realistically) however you want a game where you can hop on, nip around town relatively fast in a crouch without aggroing stuff so long as youre relatively cautious, then the game as it stands I think is about right. So I dont know if its fair to say "ridiculous" - its all a question of what you personally want :D I think there's probably a camp at one end of the spectrum that wants it painfully tough - where every time you see a zed you're thinking "oh shit" and the VERY last thing on your mind is active engagement - at the other end of the spectrum are folks who want it very easy, very accessible and very forgiving - and then the majority of the gamers falling somewhere in between. We're all obviously sitting at different places on that line, the dev team obviously just listens to the general groundswell of opinion and tries to figure out where the top of the bell curve fits on the line and how to tweak the values to achieve that level of difficulty. Which judging by the various threads they seem to be doing pretty well, as there are two very vocal and fairly balanced camps at each end of the argument although they do seem to be leaning in the direction of the "increase pve difficulty" a bit imo :D

Funny you should say that Gogs, just dusted off L4D2 last night - loved em both btw - but it felt somewhat counter to the gist of the OP as you're suggesting - I know the buzzword "horde" brings L4D2 to mind, but I personally lean more towards the guts of what I THINK he's getting at - bump up the severity of the PvE threat to a pretty serious level by both increasing the zombie threat and reducing availability of uber weapons & ammo, and mere survival becomes WAY more relevant. The knock on effect of which MIGHT be to make CoD style farm-hides-for-a-bit, grab-snipes, get-your-long-range-gank-on tougher to achieve given the lack of weaponry and the increased time needed to devote to just getting munchies & bevvies enabling you to surivie long enough to get your bandit knick-knacks. I'm a pve-er meself but given Rocket's stated intent of sandbox, banditry clearly has a place in the game. I'd just like to see the banditry to be a bit more "relevant" - that is to say for eg, given the lack of uber weapons & ammo and the far far harder time of surviving solo against uber zeds/, banditry becomes more of a "ill team up as long as it takes to get the goodies - then as we're evaccing ill hatchet your legs, grab your pack and do one over the fields as I hear you getting nommed in the background by zeds with a big ass grin on my face", The run-around-for-a-bit, ooh, dmr - bandit bandit bandit doh, anti-bandit, respawn, run-around-for-a-bit, ooh CZ... cycle would kinda break that immersion for me were I playing as a bandit meself, but its horses for courses I guess :D BTW I wouldnt expect any of this to be implemented - as Ive said in a post elsewhere, no game can be all things to all people, and a full-on hardcore survival z-mmo that is massively punitive would be about as popular as the clap to the majority of the casual gamer player base, as much as I personally would love it! (the game, not the clap - I think). So I think they've done a reasonable job of making this appeal to as wide a spectrum of chaps and chappesses as possible, and as the Rocket says, at least theyre collating a lot of feedback by the torrents of rage - sorry, constructive feedback threads on the forums (:D) in order to fine-tune that balance :D

When is it acceptable to shoot first?

When they bat their eyelids at you and show a bit of leg. They're clearly up to no good. Especially if said leg is hairy. -
A Shout-Out to Stiffy for a great time in DayZ

If on later, I'll tag along guv, happy to grab the AS50 & overwatch the gang especially if you're taking em into Cherno-gorsk (love that amalgam :D) -
I know, I have the mental age of a 12 year old - but I still chuckled. Glad to see Sarge is with me on this one. (and more constructively, same as the other lads above - just try pitching, then moving and repeat. I found weirdly sometimes they pitch easier closer to the tree trunk, but if you do successfully pitch right under/almost-in a tree, the tent could swallow your toys and not save em. That was a while back though, I know theyve been working on fixing em).

Depends what floats your boat I guess - me, I'd love the mod to be nuts on the PvE front, aka everytime you see a zed you're touching cloth, if you aggro 'em you're melting everyone's earballs over comms and a winnie is about the best weapon in the game and rarer than a moderate, well-rounded opinion on the internet. Just can't be all things to all people - wouldn't be the bandits cup of tea and would put off a lot of the casual/new players. Personally I want every zed encounter to be a brown trouser moment, but at the moment, slotting zombies is what I do when bored - as I say, can't be all things to all people, but I reckon it's doing a fair job :D

Personally did use it meself for the dl, cheers bud much appreciated. -
Hate to be "that guy" but it depends what Im up to: Overwatch: AS50 (day) DMR (night) Spotter: l85a2 CQB: Bizon (would prefer the M4-SD but Im primarily an overwatch kinda fella so happy enough with the bizon for now) Secondary: M9SD (unless using the Bizon, then either M1911 or revolver). But if I can only choose two, Id say DMR & M9SD, former for NVG utility, latter for when I'm being sneaky. Oh for the AS50 TWS - but that would fully break the game :D

Do whatever flicks your switch bud :) I'm more of your ilk, HIGHLY sceptical survivor, but one of my most comedy experiences in DayZ was duoing NWAF; south barracks my buddy hears a cough from inside. He gets into overwatch, I issue the friendly challenge from outside on direct comms - no reply. Head on in - guy at the end of the corridor lets off half a mag of ak to the door as I dive into the showers. Cue a 5 minute negotiation with my bud talking him out, getting him outside and down on the ground facing away from us with a gun on him whilst I go in and get my thieving mitts on the barracks contents (and the four or five ex-survivors plastered all around the floor). We then exfil with guns trained on the guy, and part ways with a "gl". Granted the dude didnt have much choice in the matter, but fair play, you can have encounters at NWAF where you dont get claret all over you - although they're one in a million. And the moral of this story is - having a buddy who knows how to cover your ass is worth more than any in-game loot! PS: Fair play to Max I think it was (guy in the barracks) who didnt dc or ghost out. Was a fun little encounter and hope you got away clean!
