Hacked Guns, what are the consequences?
Cvm replied to haederjonny's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
From what I understand, having a hacked gun is not bad. The problem is for those who bring in the items are are doing the hacking. A majority of the Dayz players, do not visit this forum, and many bought the game without any Arma II knowledge. This means a lot of people do not know what items are "hacked in" or are just rare etc. -
Dayz Dev Team please turn off Debug functionality

The last two times I have joined a server it brings up the, you are dead screen and then me in the middle of an empty barren field, but I still have my ghille suit. When I click abort, disconnect, it takes me back to the lobby. Once in the Lobby, i join again and it randomly puts me on the coast like I had just died, except I still have all of my gear. I am not able to start out where I logged out previously. Anyone else seeing this?

You seem to be a responsible admin, what is your server?

I have seen many threads debating about the need TO have, or the need to NOT have bandit skins. It seems that there is a general idea that people should live with their consequences, whether they be good or evil. Instead of introducing a bandit skin, why not make it so you can not change you name so regularly. Therefore if Mr. Smith, becomes a spawn camping sniper, then, after a while, people will begin to learn that Mr. Smith is a bandit. Even if he dies and respawns he still has to live with the reputation that his name carries. He will generally be trusted less by people, and he might otherwise be killed by "good guy" survivors, just because they know what he'll eventually do once he gets equipped again. For this to work, you would need to be able to see the players name about their heads. This idea is not perfect, but I think it is a better idea then a permanent skin.
-
Nobody would choose bandit. Most of them want to remain "unknown" so they can kill and deceive other players. That is also why I do not like the skin idea. You should not know what kind of person you are dealing with up front.
-
Like I said, the idea was not perfect. It could be like BF3, where you can "spot" other players, if you are playing in a team. Once spotted, for about 10 seconds, you can see the players name over their head. The name would not "automatically" appear.

I believe all map markers are shared across the server
-
Most likely yes. Right now you are paying for Arma II, not Dayz. Dayz is a free mod. Once the standalone game comes out you will need to purchase that game. Granted, I bought Arma II for the purpose of playing this mod and I enjoy it.

Although there are hackers, I think they still need to keep it open. Not everyone is affected by them. I've only been affected twice. (I've been playing for a few weeks now) They are still getting a lot of good feedback and knowledge despite the hacking. Those who complain about the hackers, scream louder then those who do not, hence why 50% (it seems) of the threads are all about hacking or hackers. This large of an Alpha has great data gathering potential. Limiting the alpha would only concentrate the hackers into fewer servers. Now that Dayz is public knowledge and many people have bought Arma II for this reason, it would be naive to think that limiting the amount of players would stop hacking. -
I had a similar thing happen to me yesterday.

How complicated would it be to switch from battleeye to a different protection? I know some steam games use other methods of stop hacking/cheating. -
So, for the past few days, I've decided to play nice. I have looted weapons and ran to the coast too give them to newly spawned players to help them out. Everytime I get killed and something bad happens. Today, I found a newly spawned survivor who had a hatchet, instead of taking my 1911, ammo, food, soda, tent and a hunting knife he attacked me. I killed him, but my legs were broke. I was rescued by someone who gave me a blood transfusion and a morphine to fix me legs. We decided to run back to Cherno and re-fill our supply. Once in Cherno, we hear many gunshots and see many dead people. Off in the distance we see a surivor, with no gear, running towards us. We, feel kind, and give him some weapons and. After we looted the church and supermarket, we then were checking our maps to plot our course, and he killed us. Everytime I try to help, I get the short end of the stick. (A few hours go by) I start playing Dayz again and respawn from my earlier death on the eastern coast. I am running to Stary/Novy to meet up with a friend. On my way there I picket up a Hatchet, some food and soda. About half way there, a msg comes up that the server is restarting in 5 minutes, and my game glitches or freezes (I'm running through the woods) and acts weird for a moment. Next thing I know my zombie counter in the top right is reset back to zero (I had killed some zombies with my hatchet) but, it looks like karma shinned on me thing time, in place of my gear, I had A ghille suit AS50 with full all empty slots filled with ammo NV googles Map Compass GPS Rangefinder 1911 with full ammo and (1 bandage) toolbox entrenching tool Watch Hunting Knife Hatchet My first thought was that someone was trying to hack or something but applied it to the wrong character??? Has anyone else had anything like this happen before?

Odd that they would do that???? I switched servers to see if it would stick and it does.

Anyone to the west of Cherno? (broken bones and blood transfusion needed) -
What do you call yourself if you are a survivor who hunts down the bandits in places like cherno/electro?
-
Lets expand the list, starting with your second point: 2)The server really sucks .... due to Lagging Hacking generally glitchy 3) Friend joins another server, so you go join him 4) The server you normally play is down/not updated/ can not find when you search for it (although it was marked as a favorite), so you join another You now have multiple tents on different servers There are many valid reasons to play on different severs. Spawning at the coast every time you start a server is a bad idea.
