  1. Dear Jessica, Please help me get a passport. I am stuck in Chernarus. I have a Makarov pistol and a single magazine. There are zombies everywhere. Please forge me a document, I cannot stand this soviet lifestyle. I can pay in beans, lots of beans. Your friend, Vexus

    rant story rant story

I love how stupidity always comes out. "I found NO LOOT on this server! And it was a full server with 50 people who are all looting all the gear all the time! And no one was at the NWAF for some reason, maybe because there is no loot and everyone looted the gear already! It's unfair, I need to go back to Diablo 3 where I get my own unique loot that no one sees!"

    comparing real life to dayz

DayZ Comparison to Real Life: People play, get pissed the game isn't fair or easy, realize they're terrible at the game, and then resort to hacking, spawning themselves all the gear without having to work for it, and finding all the other people who got their gear legitimately and kill them while invisible. People work, get pissed the workforce isn't fair or easy, realize they're terrible employees, and then resort to voting for Obama, sending themselves welfare checks every month without having to work for it, and spending everyone else's hard earned and hard paid tax dollars on alcohol and drugs.
  4. Congratulations! Guestimate of 10% hacking.... 100,000 hackers! But seriously, good job.
  5. The game is called HackZ, so yes, hacking required. Else you spend 2 days gearing up with friends to die in the time it takes someone to scroll down to "Fuck shit up" in his hacks.
  6. I'd like to come up with some awesome catchy story to get everyone's attention and then ask about your hacker run-in experiences. But, it's 19 days to the next game. So, anyone else have awesome stories about how you died to hackers? Because I'm finding that's becoming the norm in HackZ. Let's get this topic pinned so we can all discuss every HackZ moment we share!
  7. Like someone else here said, some games push your system harder. DayZ is not optimized like an actual released game, that's why even high-end cards get frame drops in DayZ yet are smooth when playing Crysis. DayZ is not optimized and you generate more heat. Download the program Speedfan and run it. Watch your GPU temperature through a shutdown, and watch it peak somewhere I assume at 70-80C, shut down, cool down to 60C quickly or less, and come back online. You could just clean the dust, but if that doesn't work, new thermal compound needs to be applied to the chips. Best to let a tech do that work because I've seen plenty of DIY jobs gone wrong.

    Everyones bitching :(

Post a server you're on and I'm sure they will accommodate you.
  9. Your video chip is overheating, causing the chip to shut down, causing that message to pop up. Your screen goes black for a second, and then comes back as the chip comes back online after it has cooled down a little. Then it keeps happening. Take to a computer shop (in Seattle? I can help!) and have them take a look.

    Hacked? Read this

    .O /|\ /|\ .^there... there he did....
  11. Guys... Don't get attached to playing a game. Yes I just owned all those 'Don't get attached to your gear' comments.
  12. Hey guys so I was with my friend in the Elektro power plant checking the tower there and then some sniper killed me. I was pissed but my friend was there to hold my stuff (nvg's, etc). I respawn and head back and the whole place was crawling with people. Every time I ran back either the sniper would kill me or some random person there would kill me. And then my friend tried to get my stuff up in the tower, and even he died, and he had a ghille suit!! I was not going to have this. When I got back the next time I told my friend to teleport the sniper to us so we could kill him. We all aimed at the center of the room and my friend teleported the sniper into the middle of the room! We all opened fire and the guy died and it looks like he logged a few moments later. It was fun talking shit to him as he lay there dead. From now on I'm not going to mess around with snipers we'll just teleport them to us and kill them, and laugh our asses off at them, period. this is the perspective of the server owner and/or hacker that killed me last night
  13. First. But seriously, there are hackers messing things up along with giving every server admin 'cheating' powers. You're not just in danger of hackers, but the hordes of server admins who do wtf ever they want. Basically tempting them every time they get killed to dish out punishment to you with no recourse. I thought if this would work as stand-alone, and the only way would be MMO style, as right now all the servers, the lack of policing hackers, and "well it's alpha so the hackers are showing us what to fix so deal with it" is bad bad news. Please update the next DayZ version / Arma 2 beta with a feature which disables all the built-in teleport, spawn, and other waiting-to-be-abused code so hackers have less access to all those commands.

  15. Guys, this isn't a troll post, what the hell. You guys are lame not to understand. So what if some people deal with snipers better than you? Don't just call troll.
  16. I had an inspiration in terms of Hero and Bandit mechanics. I was going to post elsewhere but thought it's worth a shot at glory to post here. * Summary: Points up or down are done on a GUID/CD-KEY level, with only one point per GUID/CD-KEY able to be obtained from any character/account. Heros (+10 or more points): Bandaging/healing someone gets +1 point. At +9 points, only using a Blood Bag, Morphine, Epi-pen, or Antibiotics etc (can you administer these?) can bump you from +9 to +10. +10 points makes you a hero. Can't get more than 1 point per person, no matter if they respawn or anything, so you can't just tag-team your friend and get points. You -must- help unique players to obtain Hero status. While Hero, killing a Neutral or Hero player drops you to +9 points, and you STILL can't get points from players you already helped, ever. Neutral (-9 to +9 points): No effect, starter gear, gain points by helping others, lose points by harming others. Bandits (-10 or less points): Here's how it ties together, killing does nothing in terms of points for neutral characters; only getting close to another player and activating a certain, undetermined* command on them will drop your point level by -1 point, period. At -10 points, you are a 'bandit'. Bandaging/healing a Neutral or Hero moves you to -9 points. The Catch: The most amazing part is once you obtain Bandit or Hero, no one can get a point off of you anymore by the normal means. Heroes will gain many points per Bandit killed, and Bandits will lose many points per Hero killed. Wrap your head around that sucker. Yes, that means as a bandit with -100 points, you don't want to bandage/help anyone who is not a Bandit because they will drop you to -9; helping a fellow Bandit results in no point change, and helping a fellow Hero results in no point change. This also means new Neutral players will be the prime target of banditry or helping. *Some kind of command like 'tie up' -> need rope, 'mug' -> need pistol, 'shackle' -> need handcuffs. Or just a simple placeholder like 'banditerize' him or her. lol... * Big asterisk here: Look, this is only a rough idea, the whole point interaction is just a simple generalization of the whole thing on how it could turn out. The main POINT to this is the restriction that you can only get one single point per GUID/CD-KEY, along with needing some required face-to-face interaction with players. There is risk and reward there. Heroes don't want to run up to just anyone in need, and if they did there's a chance someone backstabs them. Bandits have to actually get right up next to their victim, meaning the victim's friend might be near by waiting in ambush. Either way this kind of permanency is part of what makes DayZ so good.
  17. To clarify for the ubernoobs, ghosting is when you have someone, usually a dead player in spectator mode, telling you the location of enemies or looking around corners for you. Not DayZ's particular, specific problem of people being able to move positions by server hopping. Thank you.
  18. The best way to fix Day/Night cycle is to make it 5hr Day, 5hr Night, continuous, with all servers having to have the exact same time no matter where in the real world they may be. 1. This fixes server hopping for "day" servers. 2. This means sometimes you log on and it's night, and sometimes it's day and sometimes it's dusk and others it's dawn. 3. This will force people to get good, die, or leave, or wait until the next day to play. 4. Nighttime needs to be near pitch black at max gamma, like how dusk is right now in game, all the time. This fixes no one using light sources. 5. NVG's and Thermal need batteries to work, limiting their use, and making sure people don't just sit there with infinite free light on a hill never having to go looking for loot. 6. Any bullet fire in your direction should put you in shock, and if you ALT+F4 or Abort or disconnect in any way while in shock, you die. I think I fixed the entire game, yay! Give beans if you agree.
  19. Ouch... 'survived' means 'ALT-F4 QUICKLY!!!' Such shame, and to those who gave beans.

    Snipers????

If you're on a server with 50 people, you're not too likely to get the loot. Drop down to a low-population server to equip. Then when you run into a building you have a better chance to find gear that wasn't already taken by other players. Or you could just be extremely unlucky; I can attest, however, that I did not find a natural sniper rifle until 3-4 weeks into the game. I found a CZ 2 weeks in but didn't keep it. Recently I found a couple DMR, and an M14, so it's kinda luck.
  21. Oh and dude if you're not over 9000 you're weak. I'm just saiyan.
  22. 2 Options: 1. Go to blood banks and donate 3-4 times and tell me how you feel. 2. Weigh yourself. Divide by 4. Drink that much water in one sitting and tell me how you feel. Pretty sure passing out is your body telling you something is wrong. Don't blame the zombies for doing the only thing they know how to do; gnawing on your face.
  23. The servers aren't what's wrong (regular, rookie, veteran, etc) it's that the settings are so completely different from one to the other. I can log onto a Veteran server with CH:OFF and find myself with crosshairs and magical abilities to see zombies and other players on the sides of my screen. It's so sporadic to find a server with legit playing rules. It needs to be simplified so where everyone knows what they are getting into. My opinion is that DayZ should have no wall hacking or glowing spheres of who-knows-what. It ruins immersion and I have instead been finding ways to abuse it to track players, only because I want to know if that's being done against me; and it is. So ya, do away with the fluffy bullshit and get hardcore settings going. 3rd person is already a noob magnet as it is, take away free-ghosting.
