    I helped a man today.

Consider helping people in less game-y terms. Handing anyone a loaded weapon is a baaaad idea. You never hand anyone a loaded weapon. Ever.
  2. Near-impossible. You could give it a go, but gathering the equipment would be an adventure in and of itself, full-auto firing would probably spread your target zone to an extremely huge area, the number of places that wouldn't have sufficient cover to prevent this tactic are staggeringly limited, and even if you did manage to get it in their general area they'd probably be running for cover very quickly. That said, a bunch of those things popping off and bullets getting even reasonably close to the target will probably make them shit themselves if they don't know any better.
  3. Considering that a large portion of the average person's interactions with games are power-fantasy, yeah probably.

    CZ550 and heli crashes

Bad luck. Spawns have seemed the same since the update for me.

    Guns lost

Just bugs. Things'll get more stable eventually.

    Your first death!

Either an unarmed zombie death on the beach, or sitting on top of an industrial smokestack with a dinnerbell trying to be friendly. Can't remember.
  7. Well then, as far as I know Rocket is usually against this kind of thing. Usually very much so.

    Levels?

Ahh...well, the nature of extra bits that I've found is that inevitably the extra bits become either required, or wasted development time. They're useful, or they aren't. If they are, they're mandatory. If they aren't, they go completely ignored. If they're mandatory, it's just one more thing you need to grind to be relevant. I'm sure people do look at the scoreboards and go "dang how'd that guy kill 500 zombies" though. So there's always that bonus for doing it.

    Pros and Cons of DayZ

Arma's a 15gb download. Dayz itself is pretty small.
  10. I think they gathered enough shit that they thought they could make a decent video without the hour-long buildup where they gather gear. And then edited it together to look otherwise. And then they had some guy who just followed them around with a pack full of bloodbags from said scavenging incase they got into serious trouble. Cheesy and deceptive, but meh.

    Levels?

Alright, well, all dicks aside... Most people don't make significant strides in skill or ability without months or years of constant effort. Knowledge and tactics, however, can be learned comparatively quickly. The ability to do the right thing at the right time is often far more telling of skill than base physical conditioning. It is also far more powerful. You will inevitably gain it from having the ability to respawn. I mean, sure, you need physical conditioning and every bit counts, but Arma2-man really is pretty close to the human peak, and has a number of things that make him borderline transhuman.

    Pros and Cons of DayZ

Pros: Most activity is frantic and intense Cons: minutes of action, hours of playing
  13. Until the code pixies decide to harvest his data for bits.

    Levels?

I'm pretty sure the standard-issue Arma2 man-sim is as close to all-around peak physical condition as he's going to get. Let's look at his abilities: Reloads makarov in about a second Runs at a sprinter's speed indefinitely Vaults the moon Can zoom in with his eyes NEED I SAY MORE?
  15. Why everyone's a complete and utter douche online is a question that has hounded me for years. I blame rising computer literacy. Afterthought: Nothing worse than a moba for community. Nothing.

    Each update character reset why?

Well, the funny thing about developing a playable alpha is that, inevitably, you need to rework the infrastructure! And a part of that involves deleting every goddamn thing in sight. Or doing an intentional rollback to test certain aspects of the leveling or difficulty curve, such as would happen in a more traditional MMO alpha. Also, sometimes it just happens for no reason and is an unfortunate accident. At least some kid didn't manhandle your beans while yelling shrilly, amirite?
  17. Actually anything up to and including standing up will show you that there is, infact, balance in the real world. For a fun a experiment, try leaning left or right until you feel like you're about to fall over. For advanced practice, lift one leg. To improve your grasp of the theoretical concept, close your eyes and walk to your toilet.

How Do You Initially Gear Up?

Northwestern Cherno. Safe approach, hospital, cluster of four apartment buildings. Hatchets available across the street in the industrial zone.

    What did I do wrong?

Should've pulled out after you got to the hill and failed to find the sniper's gear. That was already a pretty serious firefight, and if there was a competent sniper with friends around they were bound to regroup and snipe you from somewhere else safe. You were doomed to being outgunned eventually, and the only thing you needed to pick up before heading out into the wider world was a hatchet. Also, I wouldn't ditch B just yet. His suicidal tendencies and decisiveness would make him an excellent pointman. Maybe. Might be best as the second one in line. Really all he'd need to do is run in and spray to cover the pointman/clean up while point draws fire. Probably don't want him deciding when to move in either.
  20. Technically, a large part of sniper strategy lies in constantly changing position so that people don't find where you are and engage you in close combat. To be fair, they server hopped. To be unfair, you fucked up and stayed still.

There are NO servers that are empty

Yes, and let this topic be a shining example of being bumped to the top so people stop asking.
  22. I was giving some more thought to the coastal problems, and I think the only way people are going to move north and stay there is the introduction of strategic resources and trade. Specifically, the north's main advantages lie in its greater amount of natural resources, as well as roads tending to converge on single cities. I also remember that certain towns have things such as mines, and the inevitable introduction of electricity and manufacturing will cause them to have more importance. Towns that don't have resources are either important for supply routes (imagine you have to drive a truck over to the mines to get a good load of stuff, and imagine if some assholes ambushed your convoy, stole your truck, and sold it and the ore back to you because you didn't have good control of the route), or as in the case of most of the heartland cities, large flatlands and farming infrastructure. Don't forget control of all those powerlines running everywhere. Until all of that's implemented, though, (which I think it definitely will be; the map is just so perfectly constructed for it and rocket's mentioned gathering electricity) increase in playercount would likely encourage people to move slightly further north for sheer safety. There just isn't enough legitimate conflict happening right now, but enough noobs stealing all the dinner bells and beans will eventually make Cherno unappealing. Perhaps consider starting a dinnerbell distribution network on your local server. However, I think slightly stronger zombies inland (hardy farmers/miners and the like. lumberjack zombies sneaking their plaid axe-wielding carcasses around the forests?) and more zombies overall on the coast might be a dynamic worth exploring. Eventually high-powered rifles and slug rounds would be the preferred weapons for the inland open plains, sparse buildings, and tough zombies, while the coast's mountains, urban sprawl, and zombie density would be better suited for automatic weapons and pellets.

  24. At one point I was sneaking around Cherno in the middle of the night, and I popped into the church to see if anything was there. As I come back out and start to go around the corner, there's a guy kneeling there with a pistol, illuminated perfectly by the moonlight. I paused for a moment, waiting to see if he would continue around the corner so I could avoid attracting zombies. He turned towards me in that sudden snap I've come to know as somebody recognizing you're there, and in almost the same instant we unloaded on eachother. Luckily, my G17 was a little better than his Makarov when it comes to unloading and I only suffered a single body shot. Sometimes I think about this incident, and I comfort myself a little by thinking that at least he fired the first shot, even if only by a milisecond.

    How to use visual indicator

I haven't taken the time to see if Rocket has elaborated, but the patch notes mention an exponential probability component to the zombie spotting. Which means, the higher your visibility the exponentially more likely a zombie is to spot you. So at around 65 you're good for about 65m. But at 100, this could be more like 200m.
