    Post Your Gear So Far

  2. I've had a lot of requests in regards to getting a server up and what kind of requirements are needed to run a DayZ server. So I thought I'd put together a small guide as to how to go about it. DayZ was created for everyone. For all cultures. For all languages. Your ingame character can do anything, but as people - you should respect each other and the differences. DayZ was not scoped to support private experiences on private servers. If you are not happy sharing a server with other people, please do not request a server as it wastes our time and yours First of all, a DayZ server requires Windows. RDP may be requested to audit your server or assist with install but these details will not be stored. Linux is not supported. If using a server provider ensure that the DayZ server mod (a dll) can be installed on it. Where suspicion of server admin hacking or alteration exists, RDP will be requested by DayZ staff to investigate. RDP details will not be recorded and you are recommended to change passwords after this is done. Refusal to provide temporary RDP in this situation could result in your server being blacklisted. Second, your server needs to be able to handle Terra-bytes of bandwidth monthly. Some servers are chewing through well over 2TB of bandwidth a month. So be mindful of that. Thirdly, the specifications. Below is a rough list of requirements to have a comfortable 50 player server. * Quad Core CPU @ 3Ghz+ (CPU is the main enforcer in a ArmA server, so the more powerful the better) * 2GB+ Ram (Ram isn't a big issue in an ArmA server, so don't be overly concerned with having copious amounts [16GB+] of it as it won't be required) * 50GB+ HDD (Preferably SATA3 or SSD) (ArmA 2 CO and the DayZ Mod take up approx. 20GB) * Bandwidth at least 2TB a month. (As stated earlier, at least 2TB is required) Finally, if you think you have what it takes, then we're more than happy to get your server running as soon as possible. First point of call is to use the contact form on the main webpage and I'm sure they'll get in contact with you. I'll be unable to provide the best 'Server Providers' to approach to get a good server, I leave that up to you. Just look through different providers, compare prices and specifications and ensure they match what a DayZ server requires. UPDATE 14-MAY-2012 For any server admins who have been hesitant to give RDP information to us, then don't be afraid, we are opening the doors for everyone to setup their own DayZ servers! (Server admins who give Devs RDP will have priority in regards to new files, updates, restarts etc) UPDATE 5-JUNE-2012 RDP is not required, it is discouraged. You may provide RDP to a volunteer or another server admin to help them assist with your install. These details will not be recorded by DayZ. Be CAREFUL who you provide your RDP details to as DayZ will never demand you provide these details. UPDATE 1-JULY-2012 All server requests are now processed at support.dayzmod.com. BEWARE - The same restrictions apply to Non-Dev run servers! - IT MAY NEVER BE PASSWORDED - NO OTHER KEYS OR MODS. NONE. PERIOD. - NO KICKING TO MAKE ROOM FOR 'FRIENDS' OR CLANMATES - NO LOCKING THE SERVER - NO EDITING DAYZ/MISSION FILES - IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO UPDATE YOUR SERVER TO THE LATEST VERSION OF DAYZ -BATTLEYE MUST BE ENABLED - Minimum slot count of 40 (30 for countries where bandwidth is expensive i.e. developing countries) - Their are only two reasons why you, as a server owner, should ban a player on your server. Those two reasons are: Malicious talk, and racism. You may not ban a user for stealing your loot, killing you, spying on you, etc. - You may only kick for disruptive behavior (such as continued VOIP over side channel). But you may not kick due to race or language or because the person does something you do not like. - Kicking for extremely excessive ping or desync is permitted, but if abused is grounds for blacklisting Failure to adhere to these rules will BAN YOUR SERVER'S IP from DayZ. If you have any questions, then please post in this thread, or email me; [email protected] We're always on the look out for servers, so please feel free to contact us if you want to get involved!

Where has that been confirmed yet? But good drills Rocket and co. Looking forward to this.

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

Your PC isn't powerful enough for it... As someone stated it's very CPU intensive. I currently have a i7-3700, 16GB DDR3 and a GTX 580 - nothing fancy. I can run everything max, view distance at 10km, AA not too bad. My FPS doesn't drop below 45. Sometime it does it big online Co-op games (with lots of other players -> not DayZ). But that's in extreme cases. Give me a engine that gives you a 10km view distance and doesn't require loading here and there. CE3 and Frostbite cannot. I guarantee it. Stop ditching RV engine, Day Z will inevitably use it, so ditching it now just makes you look like an idiot. Get used to it. And trust me, there are MANY improvements in RV4 that the E3 videos don't even touch on, so if Day Z does use that, screw CE3 and Frostbite, we're in for one hell of a gorgeous experience.

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

I'm still very curious why this topic is still going. Rocket will use Real Virtuality engine, no question about it. Whether it's an optimised ArmA 2 engine or a complete switch to ArmA 3's engine is not known. This talk about CE3, Frostbite etc is just pointless. 1. Buying licenses for those engines would be multi-million dollar contracts, which is stupid. 2. The RV engine is extremely powerful, thus why it lags on less powerful PC's. I'd say get used to the RV engine as I'm nearly completely certain Day Z will be staying on that engine. Once the game goes standalone, Rocket is able to modify quite a bit of the original source code, engine code etc. The Standalone Day Z will be completely different (in good ways) from the mod, even though it's on the same engine. And please, stop ditching the RV engine saying it's not optimised and it's shit. It is one of the most powerful engines currently circulating. Sure it isn't as pretty as your Frostbite and CE3, but RV is an awesome engine. For a small team working in the Czech Republic with not massive amounts of money behind them like the big players like DICE and Crytek, they have put out one fabulous engine, cut them a little bit of slack here and there. 7. As stated in a previous thread guys, had two Atlanta boxes go down. Should be backup. Anymore problems please direct your questions in Support Tickets or the Support TS3 server.

My HFB Server has been down ALL DAY

Hey guys, We had two Atlanta boxes go down. They should be backup now. They had to be manually restarted in the data centre as we were never given access to fully control them. We apologise for the delay, but posting in these forums will not solve your issues. You need to be aware that problems do arise with ArmA servers. I've been playing BIS games for over a decade, and their servers are not the most stable and require a lot of server power. So please be patient when they go down. We are alerted when they are and start ringing around to get them up ASAP. These are not COD or Counter-Strike servers. These are ArmA servers. They USE the servers power. You can happily run 10 BF2 servers on a dual core server box. You'll be lucky to run one ArmA server on it. Please don't let me lose faith in the DayZ community. Patience is one key aspect of every BIS game, please acquire this fabulous trait. As everyone constantly keeps stating, but some of you seem to neglect, this is a Alpha game. It's still buggy and server dropouts are expected. So please be patient. Maybe go outside, have a walk, grab a beer with some mates. Patience. It's amazing. Next time, please jump on our Support TS server; 69.46.34.162:10307 or lodge a support ticket. Matt
  9. icomrade, HFB offers premium hardware for extremely respectable prices. I've scoured the internet and have not seen similar prices for the quality in the HFB servers. I'm currently using one, and it's by far the best server I've had running for my clan. And I live in Australia!
  10. Guys, If you have any questions, jump onto the HFB Support TS3 Server: 69.46.34.162:10307 I just ordered a server a few hours ago, jumped on and they let me know what the accurate status of the box was. So if you have any queries, jump on and the staff can help you out :)

Want to host a DayZ Server? Read in here.

Hey all, If you've emailed me and I haven't responded I apologise. I underestimated how many of you wanted to get servers up! For that, the developers have opened a new email; [email protected] - and I request that you email them first before you email me. Rather than just me attached to my email, this has several server admins who can aid you in setting up your server. Any problems, just ask. Matt

    Hosting a server

Badaboum, Apologies for no reply. We've just been very busy. Please fling me an email in a day or so. Quite busy over the next 24 hours with University and work, but after that, hook me up. Matt

The main issue is bandwidth Beer. What are you allocated? Matt
  15. This is completely disrespectful. Seriously. We all have lives guys. We're all busy. We're not paid to do this, this isn't our job. So between real life, actually playing and being with family and friends we have to squeeze in DayZ stuff. We're trying our hardest, but it's post like this that make us question if it's all worth it. You have NO idea how much time Rocket spends on this mod, literally no idea. Now if you're not happy with the current arrangement, then you are free to pull down your server. We are getting dozens of emails daily for new servers, so yours is not required. Regards, Matt

LVG, what is your server's IP? Matt

    More Oceanic Servers?

Gransky, One of the main concerns is the cost of hardware and bandwidth in Australia. It's nearly 10x more expensive than USA/EU, therefore members are reluctant to put that kind of money forward, which is understandable. We're constantly working on getting new servers up, but until then, we'll have to make do. Some of the US servers are quite fine to play, and are daylight when it's night down here. Matt

Brandon, I've had that question a few times. I'll just stress the rules here again. I've talked it over with Rocket, and the deal is; There is to be NO kicking of players (Unless obviously for legit reasons) to make room for clan mates/friends etc. There is to be NO password on any server. We're looking into those that have passwords, but the majority are testing servers which are fine. It's still extremely early in the development process and the amount of new players this mod is getting is incredible, and to deal with demand we have to stick to these rules. It might not be alright for some, I for one sometimes can't get into my own server, but it's a community game, built for and by the community, not clans or others. Any clarification on these rules, please email me. Matt
