    Making looting more realistic!

No, I meant like having storage boxes that you can place in and out of buildings, since you can't have a tent as a shelter, but only as a storage space. i.e. a storage box that you place on the ground or a table for YOUR items.

    Making looting more realistic!

Oh look, another person that didn't bother to read the less than one page of replies. The replies are short, and this idea has been stated atleast 3 times. Not trying to be mean, but honestly, I could understand if there was 3 pages but... there's not.

    Making looting more realistic!

Hm, what was the third reply to this thread? Oh yeah, me saying that if this game was standalone you could do features like the putting of loot in containers. And what are the replies under it? More people saying the same thing I am, without a quote to me. That's efficient. Aaaaanyway... why not just make portable storage boxes that you can put items into instead of tents while we're at it? Saves a lot of bugs and bug fixes.

    Making looting more realistic!

I like this idea, but this would happen in standalone, considering there are no boxes and storage containers in the houses. They would have to make a map to support this feature. Also, I wish loot spawns would be limited in the value of the items that spawn, but random in the item that spawns there. That way people can't server hop and get tons of ammo and food, because the loot there will be a little different. This also makes it so you can't rely on any place to get what you need. Good idea, man, but it has to wait, like most of my ideas, unfortunately. Once standalone comes out, the possibilities will open up tremendously.
  6. I dunno, don't you think that if we could craft bows and arrows and retrieve them (and I think you might be able to retrieve bolts with a crossbow already, but I'm not sure) ammo for conventional guns could afford to be more scarce? Of course, people would still be able to get a mag or two easily enough, but the weapon that you'll be using most would be the bow (except when you see another player), especially since it's silent, and can be recycled. Melee weapons could use some cleaning up too, and that would definitely give way to being able to have a little less ammo. Not like Talahassee finding the last Twinkie scarce, but like finding 3-6 random ammo mags in a small town with say 10-20 buildings (counting for enterable and non-enterable). It's possible, and no doubt it would make things a bit more fun to have something like that happen. Even so, remember when you had no more weapons on spawn? People died. A lot. Then they adapted. The same thing will happen here. No doubt people b****ed about it when rocket took away their precious peice, but it's still here now, isn't it?
  7. Two. Words. Player callouts. How long have I waited until the day rocket records some voices to use for these.... Many days. The point would be that if you didn't have a microphone, your player would yell out something based on a button on the keyboard bound to an audio file. Say you wanted to tell someone you're friendly? Press 'p'. I know it isn't perfect. I know people will still kill you. I know that there are ArmA voice packs, but I tell you that it helps! From all your standpoints; the ones whom have shared it, you say you kill because you can't trust them, and because you have no reassurance. Let me tell you, 'p' is all they way on the other side of the keyboard. Is someone going to try and get close to you and then press 'p' just so he can tell you he's friendly if he's ACTUALLY going to shoot you? No, he's going to take his chances of staying in cover and killing you with 1 shot. "Well what if he decieves you and shoots you in the back?" That's your fault. It's always a gamble, but there are people you can trust. As soon as you two establish a friendly "knowing" relationship, you should split. Teaming up should only happen if you ask him to call you on Skype. So what happened? No one died, and no one lost a bullet. Again, this is not a global fix. People will still kill eachother and s*** will still go down. But do some people make it through unscathed? Yes, they do, and that's the point.
  8. What I really don't understand is everyone saying that they can trust no one. In DayZed, a lot of people actually let you live. Those people... are ninjas. That's right, when you went skulking into town looking for beans, a fellow watched over you, waiting for you to pass. You just didn't see him. As long as you didn't see him, he didn't have a problem with it. You weren't worth his life. So yeah, people do let you live. Before you go and argue with me that I'm against the idea of the thread, let me lay down this: They had no incentive to let you live. They didn't have to, yet they did. One bullet to the brain would've done it, yet they chose to let you pass. It's just random. So say this did happen AND it worked as intended. Now Mr. Ninja has incentive to let you survive. Now more Mr. Ninjas are letting more people survive. Or, more Mr. Ninjas are waiting for just the right time to take a shot- and misses. Mr. Ninja is no longer a god with iron death coming at you at 5000 feet per second in good quantity. Now it's you against Mr. Ninja. Even if you lose, it was a good fight, and he needed what you had. You have to give credit to the player-angels that we don't see.
  9. I'd go with 8 hits. 2 for mistakes, 6 for everything else. As for bullet damage... it could stand to be a little higher, but I don't know. I think testing it to make 1 shot k.o. guns need 1.5 hits might be interesting. And of course increase the hits needed to kill for all the other guns by that ratio according to their damage. Headshots shouldn't change that much, though. If the bullet destroys the brain then the Zed should die. If it doesn't destroy the brain, have them us another. If rocket does this, it'd have to be an experiment. Who knows? He may already have done it already.
  10. I liked this post so much I enjoyed reading every word of it. I love the idea of bows, ever since Resident Evil 4 Mercanaries playing as Krauser. I know that in comparison to this RE is completely different in the way we're focusing on, but I digress. A lot of talk is (or will be soon) spent on discussing players changing their environment, and in that subject, player crafting. While most households would own a handgun or shotgun, few would actually own bows, and those would most likely be rural settlements. It might be best to make a found bow as rare as finding a friendly player in Elektro. This way, the re-usable ammo is such an advantage that you either have a guy with a few bullets or a guy with a bow that can pick up his arrows. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but right now you're yelling at the screen that if this happened your suggestions would be so utterly pointless I should get a grip. This is where the crafting statement at the beginning of the paragraph comes in. Youuuuuu guessed it! Why not have the player be able to craft bows and arrows? Of course, you would need a suitable work surface and some tools, something for string and ect, but making crappy makeshift bows and arrows out of wood instead of getting the metal composite bows would be a good beginner weapon, and this sentence is way too long. Of course, those arrows wouldn't be as effective in the least, and (might break?) won't do as much damage or fly as far as steel bolts. But hey, it's your (and other's who coincidentally suggested this in some unknown thread) idea, so edit it how you want. So what's your version of my post?
  11. Fair enough, but 3 hits and dead is too harsh anyway. And getting rid of bleeding wouldn't be as much fun. Remember when you didn't start with a gun and constant death messages went across the screen? Making zeds kill in 3 hits will make that happen at a larger scale and have a lot longer lasting effect.
  12. The problem is you're forcing people to cooperate. DayZed is supposed to support single survivors being able to survive on their own. If you want cooperation, then YOU need to do something. Rocket has given you the tools, and now you and your community need to step up. Hunt down the murderers. Start handing out supplies. Do something. Or... make a group so far spread and incredibly powerful people will team up so they won't be destroyed by your might. It's up to us to change how this game plays. You can't do everything just by changing the mechanics.
  13. Woah, woah, woah, woah.... no. 3 hits? 3? Remember when you start out with no weapons? If 1 zombie sees you, he can kill you then, and in well under 5 seconds. If a zombie runs up to you when you're on the ground, dead. If they run at you from different directions, dead. And attracting them isn't even mistakes. It's how the game works. Sometimes it's inevitable. This is too far. This is DayZed, not baseball. Another solution can be found without being this radical. Sorry, but this just wouldn't be fun. It would be stressful.
  14. That's only because they can only move in 4 directions. We can move from 8-16.
  15. Don't make them be less than they are now. If anything, we need just a little bit more.
  16. Making Zeds harder to kill than players? That makes people want to avoid them more. Since this won't really happen (them being able to successfully ignore all the Zeds), I think it's nice. If they can really improve on melee weapons in Day Zed, this might hurt your suggestion but not significantly. And when they do develop melee weapons, things will get interesting.
  17. Ok, let me think up with my brain juices for a moment. Dogtags would be useful either way. A new option on a player body of "check dogtags" would be nice, so you could see who died and if it was one of you, or an enemy clan, ect. it doesn't necessarily have to display the name when the cursor is over it. As for some symbol of unity.... The pack comes to mind. The pack changes only when a new one is found, and is on a big part of you. You can change clothes and all that, and not all clothes have the same parts. Of course ghille suits don't have visible packs, but I like that being a disadvantage when wearing one. But how can we edit the pack? What makes sense? What about your blood? Think about it, it's a big thing in the game. It's your life. Rocket is talking about managing your clan on the site and all that stuff soon, so why not have a section where you can edit your mark? In-game, you simply go up to a backpack on someone's back, or on the ground, and choose "mark backpack". Your backpack is now marked with a blood design. Of course, there should be a few select shapes and letters you can use for this, to avoid exploitation in the immature and repulsive manner, to speak in overly large vocabulary. Thoughts?
  18. This game is scaled. Everything is alright where it's at as the game, but it can change. In real life if you see a survivor, you would let them go. The thing is in Day Zed, other people you meet are more inclined to kill you because it's in a game. They know they're not really killing you, and that they'll respawn anyway, and that gives way, as in real life everyone would be giving eachother shady looks and heading the other way (except in a few situations). Basically things go down like this: People start shooting eachother when they see eachother. More people get that mentality and kill more people they see. Those people get that mentality and the cycle goes on. The thing is, if in Day Zed it was worth more recruiting the other player to help both of you survive instead of looting his gear as a one time only cache, maybe this would be reduced. But players can get along just fine without them, and just take the extra finds. The problem is that since in DayZed the game supports the single player to be able to survive just fine, this is what happens. Say we got more zombies, or made some of them actively hunt the player? That adds you wanting some extra protection, and could use an extra hand. But oh, wait, now no one can do single player.... Maybe this will change with some NPC survivors or something. I don't know, but I trust rocket or the community will figure it out. We're doing no good here going back and forth. Either players step in in-game, or some mechanic is changed. Something's gotta give. Let's see who comes tumbling down first.
  19. These are both two sides of a very good argument, and are good points. For now though, I'll sit on the picket fence until I fall onto one side. Keep posting please; I'm interested to see where this goes, as I'm not even sure where I stand on this.
  20. I don't know if I accidently said anything about adding people with a UI or anything, but I didn't mean to. If you got it from the mention of avenger mechanics, that was just to throw out there because I was thinking, "Well what if someone was murdered right next to you?" but really didn't think it was ethical. Hoped someone might find a better answer with that. Where are you going with groups? Like say a murderer killed your buddy so you killed him so he couldn't get a shot on you? Maybe that's where the avenger system comes in, but the problem is that the game wouldn't know it was your pal, and if it did you would need a UI to add him and all that? Say you had something like a friendship bracelet? Dogtags, engravings, symbols, whatever? Basically like the family crest but for a clan, more permanent and unique than chemlights. Say you found blank dogtags and you had a knife and could engrave them? You fill in the slots say maybe a clan/guild name, (these could be left empty depending on player preference) then on one end is the clan/guild tag that links up to others like it, and in the middle there is the name which can be edited to be "codenames" and such. Then when you look at them your character recognizes them. Or maybe the original crest is in order, so you just see they are a fellow clanmate, and not know who they are. Maybe that should be thought about. All I know is that when you can customize your character more like facial features, things will be really cool.
  21. Only the part of your post I'm replying to is quoted. So you say you can't define between self-defense and murder? Well, let's look at it like this: BF3 has a system of suppression. If a player shoots near you, your screen will go blurry and all that. That's part of it. Also, most FPS's have avenger features too. When a player just killed someone on your team, you get points for killing them. Now let's look at the fact that rocket said in one of his interviews for the solution to alt+f4'ing. Talking about the game detecting you logging in or logging out often, and if those logs were near people who fired guns. Combining Battlefield 3's suppression system in bullet detection around the player, then adding a hit factor too, makes it so that if bullets are fired near or around you, it would count as self defense. So if you get fired at, the game detects the other player as attacking. If you get hit, same thing. If that player wins, it's murder. If you win, it's self-defense. The problem is you need the resources. Rocket is getting funding offers from all over the place, and he won't tell us what will or won't be in the game so we won't be disappointed, so chances are that if he does decide to use the money for that, we'll see it later. All it would take is a bit of innovation, and we have seen a lot of that in this game. Of course, it would have to be tested, but I'm sure it would have a good chance of working out. The thing is that it doesn't really matter. Things are different for all sorts of people. Bandits may show no evidence of their deeds on their faces. What rocket talks about as blood on your hands when looting a fresh body is where it counts. I like the idea of not having your murder count go up for self-defense, but making effects afterwards are just a waste of time. As for all the psychological stuff, some people don't experience this. Maybe from their outlook on life, their values, or they just don't have time to think about it in all the chaos. Sure, it might catch up with them, but that's for you to feel, not experience through a screen. Face it, when you think about the next meal on par with murdering someone for a can of beans, you don't have time for that. You have to carry on, and show no weakness.
  22. Why don't we call it hypothermia and go home?
  23. And you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to remember you. And I'm going to own it. I'm going to own the game and change it. After being what will eventually be so long without it's the only thing I can do to get even with the universe.
  24. Hey... everyone. So just excuse me for a moment as I say this. So I installed Facade. Why? Why would I ever install a freeware game when I have the absolutely amazing Day Zed to play? Truth is, I've never played DayZed. Not for one milisecond. To be honest, my perfectly capable computer blew up. The video card capacitors blew just because it's old. Three weeks after this mod came out it went. A month after I found it. How would I describe DayZ? The game from my dreams, literally. I don't know how many times I have described this game to my friends, waiting for some genius to come and put it out there. Now it's here, and I can't play it. All I can do is watch videos, and wish I could be experiencing this breakthrough. As you all know, it isn't history until it's over, and DayZed will be a big mark in the history books. All I can do is post like I've played and atleast feel partially connected. The funny thing is, for one who has not stepped foot into ArmA 2, people like my ideas. So how am I talking to you now then if my computer blew? And what's the problem with Facade? Well here's the problem: It involves leftovers. My mom got a new laptop a while back, and I got this old one. Problem is, it is horrible. Do you want to know what happens when I run Facade? It goes to the mainscreen, then I'm stuck looking at a red curtain (yes, I've followed all the troubleshooting resolutions). Once, I was teleported into Trip's house and couldn't get reactions out of them. Another time, I was inching at the door at a staggering 5 fps a second! Top notch! The CPU jumps to 100% and does not go down one little bit. Oh well, what about those videos? Buffering, buffering, in 480p and without fullscreen. My mom has a new laptop. It can run Facade. I could use it while she's at work. Nope, won't let me. If her computer broke, no doubt she would come to me and say "I'm the mom so I say what goes. Hand over the computer, I can't use mine." What's the freaking difference? There is no special reason. She just wants to use the computer, and that's it. Even if this piece of crap was available, she wouldn't use it. Banking? Banking and bill paying on the computer, you say? Hell no, that's handled by secure U.S. Mail Department. She wants to check her e-mail. The first time I have not caused my own computer's demise (yeah, I wised up by now) and I have to wait all summer until my I move in with my dad, make a new computer. And oh, wait, what about ArmA 3? Gotta wait to see if DayZed goes there. And again, what about the standalone? Don't want to buy ArmA 2 to have to waste money buying the standalone a few weeks later. Honestly, I'm saying this for a few reasons. 1. Just because I haven't played, doesn't mean everything I say is null. Remember that even when you talk to newbies. Listen. 2. You don't know how lucky you are to play this game. I've waited for this. Every bug, glitch, kill, death, and looting should be beautiful to you. You are part of gaming history, as well as the future. This is the next step, and you are experiencing this. That's a lot more than I can say for me. Appreciate what you have. When you have something and lose it, it's worse than never having it at all. When you know what your missing, then that REALLY f***ing sucks. 3. Hell, I just really needed to get this out. Maybe I'll get a blog. Then again, I can't really DO anything can I? So really, that's pointless. Sorry for the off topic post....
  25. Sewers would be like the underground route for a sort of highway travel. There'd barely be much cover and a high risk of infection, but it provides shelter, and not to mention it'd be able to take you places if you knew where you were going. Maybe get some ghille NV gaurds to keep it safe. I'm starting a bandit-hunting group first chance I get.
