What there should never be is a mechanic that punishes people for using an option available to them in the game. Banning isn't the solution. Removing the option to combat log is.
-
I agree with Gerander. If it's not in the game now, it should never be added. That goes for everything. No new weapons, no vehicles. The game is perfect as is.

Commercial buildings sometimes have attachments, and frequently have mosins and ammo. Check them? -
Combat Logging/Server Hopping Brainstorm Thread

60 seconds is a nice, round number. -
Strategos: not all servers would apply it, just as not all servers in the mod do. And even if most of them do, that's just an expression of how popular and desired it is. As someone said earlier, options are much better than impositions.
-
Lowered weapon really works as a safety, so I don't think it's needed. Trying to fire with the weapon lowered will raise it and make it ready to fire, much as if you had toggled off the safety.

While tying blood type to account isn't a terrible idea, those lucky enough to be universal receivers would have quite a leg up over everyone else.
-
Gibonez: I'm not for either option over the other. I'm merely pointing out that o e of your points was not based on any facts.
-
Those are some great and totally factual generalizations.
-
Gibonez: they knew when developing the mod, they new when the were rebuilding the engine for SA (at which point they could have disabled 3rd person). Hell, it's a server option in The mod, so you can't claim it was unexpected. It's just not a valid argument.

Infected by a virus doesn't necessarily mean they are still alive. Still, I concede my point.
-
VAC is not currently banning combat loggers, despite what people on reddit are claiming.
-
Perhaps they are? I hadn't heard anything of the sort, but I haven't heard much beyond the fact that they're zombies, which are commonly portrayed as being dead.
-
Not that zombies would bleed at all, if they were dead.

The bag is empty. You have to fill it. You'll need at least two blood test kits and two syringes. Take your blood and test it to get your type. Then take someone else's blood and test it to get their type. Of it's a match, fill the blood bag with their blood. If not, repeat.

While you make a good point, orlok, the vast majority of items in DayZ would not be damaged by blood or other indirect combat soiling. Weapons, I could understand being adversely affected by blood and dirt gumming up the works, and perhaps cereal and rice would be tainted, matches and maps could get soaked, and fruit or even a plastic water bottle could get squished. But that's all that comes to mind. The rest could be rinsed off without adverse affect. Not that I disagree with the mechanics. I just don't see your particular reasoning as being sufficient. If the engine is capable of it, I'd love to see more location specific damage.
-
Python: you clearly haven't run into me yet. I've died to more than one zombie because I couldn't see anything except the skybox. Even with gamma maxed out, I can't make out even the most rudimentary details unless they're outlined by the sky. Flashlights help me see, sure, but used in any confined environment (such as when, say, looting) they do very little to help.
-
Licidreams: sorry? In every game you play some epitome if a human? That's not even remotely true. Additionally, "in the real Zombie Apocalypse" is a quick way to discredit whatever point you try to make.

He'll, look at Sable, which is amazingly hardcore despite the art style. People can kill you if they've tracked down the location you logged off at, regardless of whether or not you're online. The problem isn't combat logging the problem is that you can combat log at all.
-
I have a problem with people combat logging. That said, I voted no. Why? Because giving people the option, and banning them for making use of that option does not make any sense. Instead, remove the option entirely. A logout timer is the most popular way to do that. In other MMOs which focus heavily on PVP, even if you disconnect, your character remains, allowing someone to finish you off. Look at EVE, where your character could remain for up to 15 minutes, if you've committed a crime. No one complains. They do the best to hide for the duration, which makes a lot more sense than having a quick "get out of combat free" card.
-
Your use of "cheating" is very loose. Making use of a feature that is available to all players isn't cheating. That said, it is very unrealistic, and if it were removed, I wouldn't complain.
-
I don't tell you this often enough, Beardedcap, but I love you.
-
Well, more variety across the board would be nice, civilian or no. As long as a variety of items have a use (beyond being a stepping stone to something better), I'll be happy.

I like the outfit! I'd love to see some urban camo added to the list.
