How Much Time Has Passed Since The "outbreak" Happened?
louist replied to nudelwalker's topic in General Discussion
The devs have thrown too much contradictory evidence in to make any real call. Bananas, unrefrigerated, will last about a week. Since there aren't magic banana pixies delivering fresh bananas to all these random houses, the outbreak must be within that time frame. Yet, those cars are rusted wrecks, lacking any wheels or upholstery, seem to be years old. (Yes, a fire would speed up this process, but the only evidence of a fire is the International Hotel, which was hit by a frickin' plane! Everything else is nearly untouched.) So I don't buy the "every car in chernerus was magically burned and/or utterly removed of paint when everything else was spared" theory. A car sitting exposed to the elements can go for years without looking that bad. As I recalled in an earlier version of this post, my grandparents had an old derelict car sitting without maintenance on their property for years and years, and it didn't look half as bad as anything in game. -

The real danger of zombies chasing you in DayZ has always been that they alert other players.

did Dean suggest intractable furniture last stream ?

I'd buy that game. -
Played it off and on for over a decade, Napa, Sonoma, Siege... Was great in the early days. I have a huge number of very fond memories. But then they added carebear land. Then insurance, luck and no reg suits. Then elves... At that point I lost almost all interest. There was no longer any real pvp. Certainly not in the way that made the game famous (Lord Brit getting fire walled to death... Or the comics of ImaNewbie). Back when it was open pvp anywhere outside a town at any time was simply fantastic. It still has the best player-owned housing in any game I've ever seen.

I'm not sure the Rust route (your character just lays down and "sleeps" when you log off, leaving you utterly defenseless) is the best way to go. If nothing else, this highly discourages those players who only play once in a while, or for short periods. I am entirely in favor of a log off timer that leaves you exposed for 30 seconds or a minute to counter combat logging, even if in conjunction with some other mechanic, such as logging off next to a camp fire or something similar. It simulates the need you would like of protecting yourself from the elements, without making logging off a death sentence in itself, which is the system currently in place in Rust. Logging in Rust for any extended period of time is essentially a game over.

And slugs should render just about anything they hit inoperable.

For me, DayZ runs second place to Eve in terms of adrenalin. Which is strange, when I think about it. Eve is a very abstract game in many ways. And yet I was immersed in it in a way I haven't been in any other game, DayZ included.
-
While I don't have specific specs handy, it's pretty easy to put together a budget gaming PC that will run DayZ perfectly well. Currently putting together a new system myself, and with some careful shopping and price matching, it looks like I'll only be paying around 600$ CAD for a fairly tasty system, including a gtx 670 (one of the most expensive item on menu at 95$).
-
It happened to one of my CEOs and two of my old mates as well, though less dramatically. And I myself was divorced during my Eve career, though in my case I was the one who ended it.

OP has point. A good map can easily take a year. And the sooner map makers begin, the sooner they can get used to the system and offer us some beautiful designs. -
There's no reason to go to the NWAF or the north anymore (here's why)

I second this. I totally want to see Cherno Bucks now! And Elektro Cents! -
I mined for my first couple years, but eventually I just lost all interesting. Missioning at least required me to peek at the second monitor every few minutes. I ended up pushing all my mining characters into R&D. The payout was less, but it let me focus on the areas I enjoyed. LOLfail drunken roams through hostile space. I was probably losing 4 times what I killed, but I had a blast. Perhaps when I've got my degree and have a proper income, I'll look into it again. But with some strict fucking schedules. No more 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Good on you for pulling out. I still have some contact with old corpmates, who weren't so lucky. There definitely a correlation between Eve and divorce.
-
@Crazy: Ditto on Eve. At the end I was running three accounts, often dual boxing. Missioning on one, alliance ops on the other. While I enjoyed the hell out of it, it became a second job for me and I had to cut it out of my life. I still follow the patches and expansions, and there's always some change or addition that makes me want to play again... But I know what it does to me.

Stay away from the shotgun(s), here is why.
louist replied to DayzForumer's topic in General Discussion
A thought occurs to me: Is it possible those 4-5 are referring to individual pellets? That would make sense to me. If that's so, then a single solid hit could take down an unarmoured target. I haven't used any shotguns yet, nor have I been on the receiving end of one, so I don't know how it pans out in game. -

As for damage... Isn't each pellet equivalent to being shot by a 9mm round? Being hit by a few at a time should be devastating. -

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. OP has something of a point. Having to reload up to three times, without ever missing, to kill an in armoured target, makes buckshot next to useless. Sure, there are headshots, but with how close you have to get, any other gun could pull that off. Anyone have the numbers for slugs? -
This is my experience as well. Broke a leg after falling from a glitchy ladder, spent 10 minutes crawling around and looking for morphine, when the server reset. Upon logging back on, I was magically cured.

@Atomizer: don't consider anything Rocket says to be confirmed. He says a lot, and sometimes reality intervenes. I'm not knocking Rocket, it just happens to be so. -
To clear up any confusion: a clip is something that feeds a magazine. And a magazine directly feeds the chamber/gun. That is to say, you cannot fire from a clip. You fire from a magazine. The mosin has an internal 5 round magazine. A speed loader for the revolver could be considered a clip, as it feeds the internal storage of the pistol. (Though perhaps a revolver is a bad example. Consider the Enfield: it has a 5 round internal magazine, and can be reloaded quickly with the aid of a clip.)

If there is one aspect of the game that should be true to life, it's the behavior and ballistics of the weapons. I can accept other alterations in the name of gameplay, but an arbitrary decrease of weapon viability just to decrease the number of people attacking each other? No.
