"Protips" - Carrying more than one weapon
schrapple replied to leemo1984@googlemail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
That's an exploit? I assumed having one gun in your hands and one slung over the shoulder was the reason they gave us two slots now. -
What if the speed of zombies was adjusted (slightly) by the density of zombies in game. So if you are facing 2 or 3 zombies in the area they are very quick and still dangerous, but when you have a massive horde near you they slow slightly so you can put up a decent fight. I think this would help level out the difficulty of the game a bit, every situation involving zombies would be dangerous instead of the situation we have now, where some situation are laughable and others are basically suicidal. Would also help level out game difficulty between players since the spawn rates of zeds are now varied depending on the FPS of the players machine. Would make it less of a disadvantage to have good FPS. *Disclaimers 1. This is not an attempt to change the overall difficulty of the game, I do not wish to slow every zed ( I actually want to make some faster), this is just a balance adjustment, the end game would still be just as hard as it is now. 2. Obviously this system would require some testing and fine tuning to get the balance correct, if you are imagining the effect this would have on the game stop it >:( . The end results would depend on how much changing certain variables would effect the game play, which would have to be tested and adjusted.

Where on earth has this notion of zombies approaching one at a time come from??? Also see disclaimer point 2, you can't make the assumption that they would walk like they have arthritis, they would move at a speed that still maintains a balance in the game, no one would know what they speed is until the idea had been tested and adjusted for balance. As per disclaimer point 1, it isn't an attempt to make the game easier. It's an attempt to make dealing with small numbers of zeds more dangerous and trying to stretch out fights with hordes to try to turn them a bit more into running battles instead of getting instantly swamped.

You might want to take another go at editing that one, it still makes no sense.

If you had the opportunity to add one pistol

Seriously? Has no one here seen a dirty harry movie? How could you say no to a .44 magnum? -
Can you please fix the mechanic which varies the number of zombies that spawn depending on your machines FPS performance, I have a decent machine and the number of zombies that spawn are absolutely ridiculous. I mean every single building has 4 or 5 zeds spawned inside it, it makes the game almost unplayable. I understand that this is to help not bog down peoples machine and I applauded you for that but can you please put an upper limit on it as it is out of hand.

What is your sidearm of choice?

I may be about to show my ignorance here but, Isn't the revolver and the 1911 basically identical? I have always used the 1911 over the revolver because of the quicker loading time and extra round in the mag, have I been wrong all these years? -
Date/Time: Constant What happened: Can write to others in direct chat and they can see it but I can't see what they write to me, chat on vehicle channel works fine both ways. I am close enough to them, I'm on the right channel and the players are not muted. Where you were: Anywhere on any server What you were doing: Trying to chat *Current installed version: 1.7.2.6 also had problem with previous versions. *Server(s) you were on: Various servers, mostly AU servers, haven't found one yet where chat works. *Your system specs: 2700k, gigabyte 560ti, 8 gig ram, windows 7 professional. *Timeline of events before/after error: Problem has been persistent, seemed to begin when global chat was disabled but hard to pin point exact start time, there have been many threads started by players relating to this problem so I'm not the only one, have also goggled it and the same problem is mention on several other forums so it seems to be a reasonably wide spread problem. -------------

Fresh from dictionary.com. Exploit - to use selfishly for one's own ends. Nuff said. It's also very cute that you think anyone still rages over being killed as fresh spawn, it just make people sad for the human race, that's all.
-
It's sad that he doesn't respect a man with no sense of fair play at all? He is exploiting a massively large advantage to the detriment of other players, the advantage a helicopter has over fresh spawn is so astronomical it may as well be cheating. Just because an action is within the rules doesn't make it right or good by default, there are plenty of things in this world that aren't against the rules (ie. laws) that you still wouldn't want to happen to you.

Hi guys, I have just come back to dayz after a break. When I play massive amounts of zeds are spawning everywhere I go (and I mean a lot, seriously like 50 in eye shot at any one time in any town). I remember the changelog on the new patch said the amount of stuff that spawns is related to your FPS. I have a good computer and get very good FPS rates, my question is am I also getting a lot more zeds spawn because of my good FPS rate???
-
Update. Still no good, just had 6 zeds spawn inside one of those little log cabins, tried to drive a bus and there was a road block or wrecked car literally every 10 meters (you would of had trouble fitting more on the road there was that many). Turning my settings up helps but only when there is enough going on to slow my FPS rate. This is driving me nuts  .
-
Cheers, turning my setting up helped a bit. How do I turn my view distance up? (sorry i'm a bit of an ARMA tard  )

I've been playing this game for quite some time now and I understand how to sneak, the problem is that there are literally to many zombies spawning to do anything. You can't sneak because even the smallest collection of buildings will have at least 30 Zeds spawned around it (you literally can't even crawl in to town because there are so many zeds they walk over you), it is impossible to move anywhere without being seen, then on top of that every zed spawn point inside a building has at least two zeds spawned at it waiting, it's not possible to sneak into a building when zeds are standing on top of the loot inside. I'm trying to find out if anyone else is having this issue and what they done about it?
-
That's just it, at 20FPS zombies probably are pretty harmless, at high FPS the bloody things are everywhere. It is absolutely crippling the game for me, every single zombie spawn point has 2 or 3 zombies on it, every building (and I literally mean everyone) has zombies in it, you literally can't get loot without killing at least 2 zeds, which is a bigger problem because firing even the quietest gun bring at least 30 zeds to you. You can't sneak anywhere because there are so many zeds you get spotted, It's driving me nuts. Is there anyone else who is having this problem? and does anyone have a solution to it?

Ok, i'll be a lot less subtle and list the reasons why this idea wouldn't really work very well in game. 1. Due to the low player population densities of Dayz it will a long time for someone to stumble across an ambush tent, you could wait literally months for someone. 2. (carried on from number 1) Unless the tent is in an obvious spot. 3. (carried on from number2) Tents placed in obvious spots are obviously ambush tents and will get filled with bullet holes quickly. 4. If tents can contain players waiting to ambush no one will check tents anymore without first shooting them, the feature will become unused. 5. Many players consider someone sitting in a tent and using third person view to look out of the tent cheating. 6. Laying in wait and ambushing players is already way to easy in Dayz, the last thing the game needs is to make it easier to camp for players. It's not a terrible idea but it just wouldn't really work in game as you have imagined, people would just avoid tents or just shoot them, you would end up waiting inside a tent to get killed. Maybe something like a booby trap on a tent would work but you would also need someway for other players to disarm a trap too.
-
But you do want one of those ways to kill someone to be by sitting for hours staring at the inside of a tent waiting for someone to open the door right?
-
You also want a game where you sit in a tent waiting for a door to open?
-
Thanks guys, is there an upper limit to the zed spawns because I am getting heaps? I literally can't fire a 1911 in a house because 20 zeds turn up after the first shot, there are so many zeds the game is almost unplayable. Is anyone else experiencing this???
-
You want to sit in a tent and wait for someone to look in it?

How's this for an idea. What if instead of loot points spawning high value items straight up instead loot grows at a loot spot? For example, if you have a weapons loot point it starts out with one single round of ammunition, every 5 minutes ( all values used in these examples are only for demonstration purposes) the pile of ammo grows by one round, once there are enough rounds for a full magazine the counter then starts for the magazine to turn into a weapon, once the magazine has become a weapon and the weapon has sat in the spawn point without being collected for a period of time it will "grow" into a higher quality weapon. I feel something like this will really add to the scavenging feel of the game, instead of just running through the cities quickly grabbing everything you need you will have to go exploring and searching for really good loot. The more remote and unusual the loot point the more likely you are to find something really good.

What do you do when yours peas and corn touch?

Not meaning to be rude but if you read all my posts you will find the answers, would take more time than I have to re-explain every detail every time someone jumps in at the end of the thread.

You raised a good point that I hadn't mentioned yet about combat, the thing I enjoyed most about the game was the survival aspect. By creating centralized hotspots the game promotes player combat, decentralizing the map would spread players more widely, surviving against the elements and zombies could be tuned to be a far more difficult task because getting good loot would mean a suicide trip into a hot area full of player laying in wait. But every person has there own opinion on what the game should be, personally if I want to shoot people I play a proper FPS. Also the points wouldn't be total random, military gear could still be fixed to military locations. Randomizing would just mean that the same point doesn't give the same item every time. A point in a barn could spawn a low grade weapon, tool or food but not a military item. Just as a barracks could also spawn a tool or food but could also have a military weapon in it's loot cycle, a barn wouldn't have a military weapon in it's loot cycle.

I do hope the new loot system works well but I must admit I have doubts. You could slow down the rate at which loot grows by increasing the number of loot points and this would balance out the total amount of loot on the server (but that's a balance issue that would have to be tuned), if it took 2 days for a point to go from some ammo to a weapon people aren't going to wait for that to grow. What I like about it is that it give a good chance to randomize the amount of loot from each point. You could find anywhere from 1 to 100 rounds of ammo at a point, a house that rarely gets visited could be an absolute gold mine whereas a building in a populated city could have almost nothing, I think this adds a degree of realism as well. In a real zombie apocalypse the most obvious places would get cleaned out first, your best finds would come from unusual places that haven't already been picked clean.
