    Should loot "grow"?

I changed my mind, your powerful argument has swayed me.

    Why?

    Should loot "grow"?

Thanks to everyone who has something to contribute. I didn't go into massive detail in the OP because walls of text don't get read so let me clear a few things up. Loot points wouldn't all start with the worst item and eventually end up at the best item going. For example points could be fixed to a certain ammo type, a 9mm loot point would start with a single round of 9mm and the amount of ammo would grow, when the point eventually becomes a weapon it would become any of the weapons that take 9mm ammo, so it could be a M9, a G17, a PDW or even an MP5 variant. A 9mm weapon with some ammo would be as far as the point would grow, it wouldn't develop any further into a high powered rifle or NVG. The number of points and how quickly they grow would obviously be adjusted so game play would work, points wouldn't all grow to max in an empty server, there would obviously have to be a cap on how much and of what type the gear was. Also the number of points would be different from the current dayz, Each building may only have one point so you could do very well or very poorly from each building with a point, unlike now where many buildings have massive stocks of loot inside them. What a point grows would also be randomized (in line with rarity intended for gear) after they have been picked, a point which had a M4 gets picked and could start again as a medical point and start to grow a bandage or a food point that starts to grow a can of beans. This would prevent people from learning which points spawn which items, so you wouldn't know exactly where to run to when you need an assault rifle like you can do now, it would also prevent people from camping at valuable loot spots like they currently do. I'm not overly attached to the idea, it was something I had been think about. It seemed pretty good to me but I'd like people to question it, the best ideas grow with positive and negative input from the community.

    Should loot "grow"?

For the good of mankind I hope you don't ever reproduce.
  5. schrapple

    Should loot "grow"?

Only applies to loot points, once the loot has been taken from the loot point the cycle starts again at that point.

    Should loot "grow"?

Exactly, it was never proposed as a cure for things magically appearing and is no less realistic than the current loot system. You claimed that a revolver magically turning into an as50 was unrealistic.

    Should loot "grow"?

Cmon, having a DMR appear from thin air at a spawn point? it's just an alteration on the current system which is shit being magicked into existence.
  8. schrapple

    Should loot "grow"?

So your argument is that it would be unrealistic? is it less realistic than an as50 magically appearing at a spawn point?

    Should loot "grow"?

The waiting for spawn to grow into something cool is a good point and could be a problem, I imagined that it would take hours if not days for something top end to finally develop though. So waiting would really be unrealistic, unless you came back in a few days.

    Should loot "grow"?

Care to elaborate? or is this just your "thing" you do?
  11. I am able to tolerate the many problems with day-z but the act of stupidity I witnessed today has made me hang up my day-z hat and wait for the stand alone. Let me set the scene. Playing today on my favorite server, only me and one other on the server. I have an Enfield and a revolver and am cruising around Cherno collecting supplies, I suddenly see the other player running with only a hatchet and a zombie conga line behind him, he runs into a warehouse and the zeds follow him in. I go to help, I run into building and sit at the opposite end of the building to him with my rifle pointed at the ground. He runs towards me still with zombies chasing him and tries to chop me...WTF? Long story short I run and he continue for some time to try and kill me with the hatchet, eventually I got pissed and shot him. Why would some one persist in trying to kill another player who has proven they are no threat especially when you are so seriously out gunned by them? I can't answer so I am hanging up my day-z hat.

    Giving up, to much stupidity.

So his plan required me to make no attempt at self preservation? I rest my case.

The irony of someone who can't tell grammar from spelling calling others on either. :P

    Opinions on this behaviour

I was recently talking to a friend of mine who is a psychologist, I explained day-z to him and said they claim it is a "social experiment". He nearly wet himself laughing, he said "it is the equivalent of dropping a rock and calling that an experiment in physics. There is nothing experimental about it, predicting what will happen by letting people lose in a virtual world with no rules and no possible come back on bad behavior is like shooting fish in a barrel". He was honestly amazed that the game is even playable.

Thanks for the responses guys, I know we are going to have the same halfwits in the stand alone I just hope that there are some more incentive to not instantly kill everyone you see. What shits me is the "instantly kill everyone you see it's the only way to stay alive" mentality (I personally blame the FAQs for this, it's the first thing we tell new players). In that situation the other players best hope of survival was to leave and hope I didn't want to kill him(and i didn't), If he wanted to risk trusting me then he potentially had something to gain and very little to lose (since he didn't have anything good anyway), engaging in a fight you can't possibly win makes no sense at all in terms of surviving.

People who can't create anything of worth only criticize and destroy others.

    Unable to hear/read direct communication

I've had it going on for 6 months now (so I have lived through many unsuccessful patches), have uninstalled and reinstalled everything but still doesn't work. :(
  18. Hi guys, I'm stuck in the debug plain but only on one server. It isn't a private hive server and I can join other non hive servers and I start in the last place I left with all my gear but on my favorite server I start in the debug plain. Can anyone offer any suggestions, thanks.

    Unable to hear/read direct communication

I have the same problem, I can use other channels fine, others can see what I type in direct chat but I can't see what they type in direct chat. As you can imagine not being able to chat turns dayz from a hard game to a nightmare to play. It started a few months ago for me, I have reinstalled everything, reinstalled every driver on my machine and have done every update possible and none of it helped. I have raised several tickets but in the end I have just given up. But there are quite a few others with this problem if you search this forum. Goodluck let me know if you work anything out.
  20. I have my doubts that "starving to death needs to be COMPLETELY overhauled", I think if starving to death was completely overhauled that would be enough. I feel a COMPLETE overhaul is too much, just a complete overhaul please rocket. Thanks.
  21. Why aren't you complaining that you are able to run indefinitely at a full sprint carrying tires, or that those tire fit every single vehicle in game, or that you can use every single weapon in game like a pro? Don't be a hypocrite, you can't whinge that one thing in-particular is not "realistic" and not say a word about the rest of the game, take the good with the bad.
