And still no one has been able to explain what place resurrection (or something very close to it) has in a survival simulator, what is the point to a survival game if death has basically no penalty???
-
Perhaps next time you should read your own source material. It would prevent mem from having to do it for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_person_shooter "First-person shooter (FPS) is a video game genre that centers the gameplay on gun and projectile weapon-based combat through first-person perspective;" The game is not centered around gun and projectile based combat, it's based around survival. Just because it uses a fps engine and has guns in it doesn't make it a fps. Thanks for wasting my time.

Why are so many 'Bronies' into DayZ?
schrapple replied to Jony_RocketInMyPocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow, you guys actually watch a childrens show. How original and unusual, please continue to tell the world. -
Unfortunately you're correct, it currently is because the game is full of console kids bored with waiting for the next CoD. They should not be pandered to, it will only encourage them.

A thought to reduce the shoot on sight only problem
schrapple replied to Vorg's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The pointless player killing does need to be addressed, but I don't think this is the answer. If you remove the threat of being killed by players then you remove the constant terror that you may be hit at any time, as long as a zombie couldn't see you you'd basically be invincible. -
Not a first person shooter, a survival simulator. That is all.
-
It would have to be a standalone feature but all you need is to make it so an item you owned at the time of your death ( or near to time of death) is tagged and can't be picked up by you once you have respawned. It doesn't fix 100% of the problem but it will fix most of it, which is a lot better than the current system.

The problem is that storage of things you can reclaim after death is basically resurrection, How on earth can someone claim that ressurrection has any place at all in a survival simulator? On the community storage front the problem is that in this game a community with players that can resurrect and store gear has literally nothing to fear in this game, What is the point of being invincible in a survival simulator?

It's pretty simple, the most fun (and terror) I have experienced in this game is just fighting to survive. I don't see why reality should be completely ignored so that some kid who has become bored with BF3 can gather enough gear to become a one man army and turn this game into a FPS. Perma death doesn't have to make the game impossibly hard either, it will just need to be rebalanced, if you have reached a point in the game where surviving has become easy then the game mechanic is inherently flawed, the game should always pose a challenge and being able to die and almost instantly be restored to your former glory allows you to bypass the challenge of the game and return to a point where you are nearly untouchable. At the end of the day reality has to be compromised to make games work, a game that was absolutely true to life would be unplayable. But bending the rules of the world so far that death is no penalty in a game the is about survival is a complete contradiction, if you are able to resurrect yourself in a survival simulation then what is the purpose of the game? it's no longer survival is it?

I thought about that but being from AUS something like that could cause issues. We can only really play on local servers due to pings and we may not get that many servers. Being banned from one for a time could cause problems.

Rocket, please save us from kids bored with their FPS.
schrapple posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Please, when the stand alone is released save us from the kids who are bored because they are waiting for the next CoD release. Basically focus the stand alone on the zombie apocalypse survival aspect instead of the "i'd really like to have the coolest latest sniper rifle plz". Adding weapons skins doesn't add depth and atmosphere to a game they only make it more attractive to easily impressed kids. I'm asking for the stand alone to break the first person shooter mould and be a genuine fight just to survive. We need more focus on collecting and using civilian items just to stay alive rather than people collecting bulk high grade military gear and dominating the game, at no point should this game ever be easy, it should always be a fight just to survive no matter how much gear you have. Basically i'd rather spend my time desperately fighting off zombies with a table leg than safely popping off helpless zombies with a silenced M4. Just my 2 cents. -
Rocket, please save us from kids bored with their FPS.

Sorry, forgot to allow for kids reading this thread. The original post is not a post whinging about PvP, PvP wasn't even mentioned in it. Now be quite and let the adults have a discussion. -
Easily fixed, anything left on the ground will vanish in a few minutes. You can only keep what you can carry. No more storing anyhting anywhere.
-
The thing to remember is that these kids that hack day-z aren't hackers. Hackers create original ways of breaking code, these kids cut and paste other peoples work from google which makes them hacks, not hackers.

My bones are made of pancake mix.

They say random broken bones is a very rare bug but it happens to me a lot, several times now when i'm just crawling through grass my leg has snapped. -
Surely there can be more than PVP?
schrapple replied to TomCei's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's fair enough, but why do players kill other players that can't possibly be a threat to them. Where is the challenge in that? What is the challenge in sniping someone from a hidden position when they stand no chance of fighting back? Saying that once you have gear killing zombies isn't a challenge anymore so I kill players that are even less of a challenge than killing zombies makes no sense. -
Thumbs down, this game needs fewer military items. What we need is more civilian weapons.

Before I start I need to say that I don't know much about arma 2 so I don't know if this is possible but here goes anyway. I think it would be more realistic if magazines for weapons were rarer items and the ammo we find should be in boxes or laying around individually. That way you would have to take the time to fill your mags from boxes or from loose ammo. For example if you found a pistol and it had just the one mag with it the pistol wouldn't be very useful if you could only take 7 shoots and then had to refill the mag which would be dangerous if you were getting eaten, but with each mag you find the pistol would become more and more effective. It would also allow ammo to be found more frequently but in smaller amounts eg. 2 or 3 rounds at a time because their is nothing worse then finding a gun and then finding bulk ammo for every other gun except the one you have. Certainly not trying to reinvent the wheel here, just tweak the game slightly to add a more desperate survival feel to it.

Make magazines rare, make ammo more common?
schrapple replied to schrapple's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It would work a lot better if there was more standardization of ammo, as in there could only really be 4 or 5 max different types of rifle ammo and 3 or so types of pistol ammo. -
I think instant healing goes against everything the game is about, if you get injured it should take time to recover and you should be disabled in some way until you have recovered. It would also help with the insane PvP at the moment, you're not going to pick a fight that will cause you to suffer even if you do win. Currently you can get shot several times, get a blood bag and 5 seconds later you're good. If getting shot meant you had to crawl for the next 30 minutes people wouldn't be so trigger happy.
-
I also voted for porn. Ideally a randomly generated map would be best but that is a very big ask, if every server generated it's own new map once a week or so it would level the playing field amongst the players quite a bit.

did nobody really use their guns before they got infected?
schrapple replied to zombiejun's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You're assuming the guns you find have been used by someone to make a last stand. If people got infected and just wandered out of their houses looking for brains then I would imagine you would find weapons put away in the unloaded state with the mags full. -
Since the latest patch I've come across some strange zombie behavior that I haven't seen before and I was wondering if anyone else has seen it? These are some of the things I've noticed. 1. Invisible zombies, been killed twice now by zombies I can hear but can't see. 2. Zombies that see and hear you from massive distances away even though you are crawling (like literally so far away you can't see them). 3. Zombies going aggro at nothing and then calming back down in a few seconds 4. Zombies running at aggro speeds even though they aren't aggro 5. Zombies getting stuck under floors and passing through walls. 6. Running up and standing in front of zombies and they don't notice you at all. Has anyone else noticed these sorts of behaviors?

What are we going to do about the armies of shit head hackers ?
schrapple replied to liquidcactus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You can always tell the hacks by their responses when someone suggests doing something about hacks. Remember kiddies, a hacker is someone who has at least created something original, you googled then cut and paste his work which makes you nothing more than a HACK. -
I disagree, we start with to much stuff. The game is meant to be a struggle for survival not a FPS.
