DayZ Standalone Discussion
matt.25@hotmail.com replied to griffinz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm sorry but I still don't think this is a valid reason to delay the release. First, well over 1 million people played Day Z and I'd wager that just as many, if not more, knew of it from friends, gaming sites, YouTube etc. People are not neanderthals; they can tell that there is a clear difference between Day Z and War Z; enough that they can differentiate that they are different games. Also, give me some proof of these "people" who thought War Z was the Day Z standalone. HA! Second, if that (somehow) was not already the case, it definitely is now. The War Z fiasco, as you said, has been plastered on just about every massive gaming site that I know of: PC Gamer, Kotaku, Gamespy, Reddit (/r/gaming), Steam, and more. It's been out in the open, exposed, critiqued, and trashed to pieces. Only a complete imbecile would make a mistake in differentiating the games at this point. So I hope the team isn't sitting back and thinking, "oh let's just delay a bit more so we can let that small group of people who are most likely to play our game right away, find out for themselves about War Z and Day Z, then release so we are safe and not thrown into the same category in their minds". It sounds ridiculous doesn't it? I realize earlier you said that this was one of the reasons for delaying, not THE reason, so I respect that, however, I think most of us know it's at a stage where it could be released as alpha. You can't say that people outside of these forums aren't as informed as we are about the current situation and that they feel the same way; cause I assure you many do. The group of people I play War Z with are literally killing time until Day Z standalone. If you got 1.4 million players on the mod, I can assure that number will go much higher for standalone as it progresses. -
DayZ Standalone Discussion

Thank you for the update, Griff; I think it would be silly if you got in trouble for saying that since it is not anything secret. I think Rocket and his team should take advantage of this time and release the Standalone because even though I am playing War Z with my friends, we say every day to each other, "the moment Day Z SA hits, we're uninstalling War Z". Rocket expressed that he was feeling depressed, concerned, and worried but if only he knew how much RESPECT the community has for him; just about everyone sees him as a god. I'd wager that 90% of War Z players were previous Day Z players or at least have played the game once and would jump ship to the standalone the moment it releases. War Z is currently at a low point and is not only ridden with hackers but item duping is rampant which has effectively ruined the experience in the game in general. Titov and his crew are trying to patch things up but everyone knows the ship has sunk and the prospect of the game getting any better is slim. Tons of people played and put up with the alpha version of War Z, which was total trash, and I'm willing to bet the current stage of Day Z standalone is better than War Z at this very moment. Take a load off and release it as soon as possible. I'm just one of the many, many gamers out there, but I guarantee it won't be a flop. Look at the amount of people who are wondering if they should buy ARMA right now JUST to play the Day Z mod, when they KNOW the Standalone is right around the corner. The game is wildly popular and I think Rocket et al is playing it a little too safe when they are renowned in the community! People will go absolutely mental if it releases soon. The only reason I am in War Z right now is because the inventory/item system is better, the animations are not as clunky, and it's a bit more deathmatch-y at the moment, which is nice, however, Day Z still trumps it and I will return the moment Standalone hits because each of those issues I listed will be addressed. -
Let me correct you where you're wrong. 1) You act like you know everything about War Z. Did you know it's going to have a hardcore mode? I like how you render me a casual because I raise my voice about game-breaking bugs. Competition not only in games, but ANY market is healthy. It forces each party to be better than the other, benefiting the consumer. 2) Well since Rocket has "let us all play", no doubt knowing that like 90% of the player-base is practically paying for the game if we didn't own Arma 2 and expansion (I doubt many of us had it already), then he should fix what he broke, or at least let us know in a proper message that it is being worked on. I've played a lot of games so don't think I'm just whining for no reason. You can't tell me that when you zoom in to Cherno and it looks like a damn kaleidoscope that something isn't majorly wrong.
-
All of these quick fixes are fine and dandy if they work for you, but the bottom line is that it's unacceptable and DayZ devs should fix what they've broken. I've already lost some interest in the game because it's no longer possible to play properly in many areas. Each day that War Z gets closer is just another small nail in DayZ's coffin in my opinion.

Bring on War Z imo. DayZ is fun for sure, but if they don't get their shit together and get this standalone version in the works, this game will be a wasteland while War Z capitalizes. Gotta love competition in any market.

Would like to report player under the tag of "Twintoes" who is using some sort of hacks/cheats to teleport to certain players, hack items, and some how make his body unlootable when he is killed. My friends and I killed him by the gas station near Elektro and he had tons of loot...ghillie suit, GPS, night vision...the works, and we couldn't loot ANYTHING. We drive up around in the car we found up to the airstrip and he is already there in the hangar with weapons. Luckily, we kill him again (it's obvious at this point he doesn't have a wallhack). He comes back in about 2 minutes flat, with weapons, manages to destroy our car, and kills my friends (I had logged out in the hangar after we killed him). If you see this player "Twintoes" in a server, please report him wherever you can. EDIT: I am 99% sure the server was US 755. I will try to confirm 100% when I am home from work. Also, this happened around 11pm EST.

I'd like to know as well :(

Yes, however, you will have to do some decent config file edits to tweak it for smooth gameplay. I'm on an Intel Core 2 Duo and running the game fine and it still looks pretty good.

Retention and expansion

Thanks for the positive note. I actually have a few ideas how they can add some fresh experiences for players who feel like they've "done it all" already. One could be a mentor or some sort of an anti-bandit. This class(ificiation) will reward players for helping others find items or make it to desired destinations safely. Kind of like a middle man you can trust. There will have to be some sort of rewards (i.e achievements, titles, MAYBE some items) for carrying out these actions. Things like clans and guilds crossed my mind, but it really wouldnt suit the unpredictable life or death gameplay of Day Z. I like how you are NEVER truly safe in the game. That whole risk of dying is a key factor in the popularity of the game I'd say. -
Hello fellow survivors and bandits! As a new player in this fantastic game, I'd just like to give my input/hopes for the game as it grows into a full-fledged sandbox, survival FPS. I feel that games are most enjoyable in their infancy because something the "sloppy" bugs and annoying glitches make for some invaluable humour and fun. I've seen too many games that were good in their infancy, die quickly because the developer(s) ironed it out way too much, dumbed down the experience, and it lost that mystique. I'm not trying to say that Day Z will experience that but it can easily happen, however, with the freedom that is already in the game, I imagine this is something that they devs want to keep. The biggest pull factor for me in this game is the player-driven action and content; it's a true sandbox survivial FPS unlike any other. Whatever you do with the game in the future, I hope you keep it as "off the rails" and non-linear as possible. The immersion upon entry is just incredible. It took my friend and I about 35 minutes to find each other when we first joined, and the feeling, after relying on bare-miniumum navigation, was awesome. I'm sure no one will miss bugs like zombies clipping through concrete walls or all of the lame deaths like getting stuck between two rocks, but if possible, always leave a few elements of "brokenness" if that makes sense. When it's too predictable, sometimes the fun is lost. Another suggestion is not to add any sort of "levels". I feel dying and losing your items right now is a very reasonable penalty. If levels were added, the frustrations of dying would be increased a lot....as an avid MMO player, the thought of losing a higher level character after so much work is enough to quit for good. I like the balance and the risk in death as it is in the game right now. I'm sure one of the biggest arguments/suggestions is about what items to spawn with. I'll stay away from that because it could get complex. I think it's pretty good the way it is and by that, I mean having basically nothing. My ONLY suggestion if it remains this way though is to lower the aggro range/level of the zombies along the immediate coast so it's just a TAD easier to get into a shed, barn etc. Not the most exciting suggestion post, more just a hope that the game and it's mystique at the core is kept.

Should I wait until September?
matt.25@hotmail.com replied to matt.25@hotmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
Good points everyone. I'm so tempted to buy it now but what about Arma 3 coming out later this year? Will the mod be ported to that? Do you think this current mod will die once the standalone comes out? -
As we all know, the rumour is out that the dev HOPES to have a standalone version of Day Z, playable by September. I've been watching this game from the sidelines for almost a month, and seeing it grow nearly 100,000 players a week, among other amazing videos online, i'm persuaded to get it. My concern is what will the devs offer/compensate the players who've paid $25 or more already for Arma 2, just to play this mod? It's a game, of course it won't kill me to wait, but if I chose to wait, it could end up getting delayed and pushed back, so then I wasted my summer and more, all to save a bit of money. Think I should just drop the $25 on it now? The dev said the standalone version will have a fee. So maybe they can give a discount somehow to current Arma 2 owners? What do you all think??
