Here's a suggestion, stop the fucking hackers!
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to Kerrby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It be very hard to stop fucking hackers, because being such a lame hacker they must not be getting any ... so fucking hackers just don't excist! -
I drink a lot of coffee during the day and i never noticed being able to run faster or do things better... and the only side effect of withdrawal tends to be a mild headache, but only once in a blue moon ... coffee does seem to be good vs. alzheimers, parkinson though ... but i haven't seen anyone last long enough in DayZ to make it to an age that would warrent these to be implemented in the game... I would like to see coffee as a drink though, perhaps instant coffee made by boiling some water and adding coffee concentrate to it :)

Good point, well IRL i think it starts with itching, then twitching, then crawling up like a baby and screaming you need a fix, uncontrolled agression tends to come along with it too... not sure which of those could be realized within the game

What is the point of being a alpha tester....
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to Sakeoe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
While i agree to this in regards to what the dev's do with the information, there is no harm is reporting and finding bugs in alpha, it's upto the dev's to decide whether a certain bug breaks the game to such an extend that they should devote resources to fixing it, or whether a bug with a certain feature breaks that feature to an extend it can't be tested properly ... a tester can always try and find bugs and report them, no matter which state the game is in, and doing so in alpha means that there is already a wellknown list of bugs to tackle once the game goes into beta, one could almost say that true beta doesn't start untill these bugs are finished...@Grandpa, I'm sorry but i would think that a person of your age would come to appreciate a little more depth into any message conveyed, i am far from being a grandpa but even i get rather concerned by all the meaningless multi-interpretal one-liners the twitter age brought along. But just incase your mind has gone down the drain by altzheimer so much already... Just read the first sentence of a paragraph, any half decent writer always puts the most important part of their message there. If you can't find the good stuff in the first sentence, read the last sentence... if 'the point' doesn't seem to be in neither of those, then stop reading entirely, it's very likely the rest of that paragraph is crap too ;) -
That's all fine and dandy Alex, but perhaps you can enlighten us on what Metalgear 3 was like, not everybody in the world played this game

What is the point of being a alpha tester....
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to Sakeoe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Couple of things realy: - if you want to be a real alpha tester you would not realy play this game you would try and find bugs by repeating the same thing to actually see if they are truely a bug... you wouldn't even post in this part (general) of the forum, you would read and search reported bugs and try and see if you run into them aswell, and ofcourse to spend your time finding new bugs instead of spending time on already known issues. - as an alpha tester you have the opportunity to test the features of the game, based upon the general concept of the game and the playerbase reactions you could spend time to device optional features for this game. You would spend most your time in the suggestion forum, you would try and read up on suggestions (or use search) so you don't post the same suggestion over and over. You would contribute in discussions on these features always trying to keep the game in mind, you would realize that no idea ever truely sucks, it may just realy not fit a particular situation or game because of some reasons... - as an alpha tester you may just be here to give your honest feedback, you play every session to get a general honest opinion on what you like or do not like (be it a feature a bug or w/e). Feedback is always subjective and you are wise to realize this, as subjective viewpoints are there to be disagreed with or mocked, or w/e. But this discussion realy isn't important, feedback is formulated in a 'this is what i did, this is how it made me feel, because of...' ... the moment you start to formulate 'and this could be done about it' you are already threading in the suggestion realms. All feedback should do is give that explained subjective viewpoint that the gamedev's can no longer see. based upon this feedback they can decide though whether the features you spoke of are conveyed correctly as intended, or not, or whether certain features give added experiences (be it positive or negative). This kind of feedback doesn't realy need a response either, and while the general forum is filled with discussions on these kinds of feedback topics, as a feedback giver you should care less what other people think of your feedback. It's how you experienced your playsessions and you can't realy change an experience based upon a different point of view. Even understanding that it's an alpha doesn't change how you feel about that ... so just ignore the comments, write your feedback and move on to get more ... - last, data entry unit, for this you just play the game, the systems behind the game collect data based upon your behavior, which in turn gives the Dev's a somewhat objective view of the whole of the playerbase's behavior. You don't realy have to do anything but play... -
Your ideas for the future of this game?
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to Core (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is a whole forum dedicated to suggestions, aka. things that people would like to see changed, removed & added to the game... check it out :P My contribution to this thread is in my signature, which holds my full list of suggestion for DayZ -
Yeah, tnx to the weak physical and mental abilities of humans causing a need for a weekend, i managed to finally fill in the OP for various physical systems that could/should be in the game. Obviously it be upto Rocket to determain which and how, but these give a great overview sofar, some additional stuff may show up in the weeks to come as i evaluate the content of the OP and fill in things i missed in this first pass through :)

What about CAKE !! ... so the cake finally isn't a lie and we can get our cake and eat it !! I don't like the speed buff though, but i do think maybe 'bloodsugar' could be an interesting feature to the game ...

L0G!N (DayZ) replied to franzuu's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@Suspenselol, so I'dd be the first to admit i have only conceptual knowledge of hacking&detection, but what you are basically saying is that: - battle-eye should actually do something about 'stopping' the hack? as right now even a 1y old hack would work for a certain period of time? - While I only know about the hacks you mention, aimbotters, etc. these would be less noticable in a game where you hardly run into people, and when you do they will kill you not matter if they use an aimbot or not. Arguably you would have a bit of a change to fight back without an aimbot, but still, if you have no bloodbag+friend it will take you a long time to recover from meeting somebody. Then ofcourse, these aimbots, wallhacks (w/e that is :P - i'm guessing shooting through walls) etc. while they can be realy annoying, they can not entirely screw up your gaming experience, and for an 'alpha' version of a game these hacks are not that important ... the thunderdome hack though or spawning w/e hacks, those are annoying and destroying my gaming experience. If i get shot by an aimbot, sure that sucks, but it still be within the realms of the game actually being shot... I mentioned in another thread that i found it weird that Arma accepts other code to work 'while' the game is running, see i personally like modding and user created content, but all things possible should stay within the editor, the moment a 'mod' is running it should just not accept any coding that is not in the mod. But then i guess programming something like that would solve all hacking issues with all games, and be the holy-grail of anti-cheat gaming... so i guess the conceptual idea is nice, but i shouldn't expect anything like it real soon ... :| -

Different Bags for Different Purposes
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@OP , i think this is the idea you want to migrate towards, sofar it has 13 different bags: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/29729-if-you-are-good-at-something-professions-teamwork/ which are all linked to the toolbelt. Then you would likely also like this suggestion in regards to more variation in bagpacks: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/30663-cut-down-inventory-space/ And to top this off, you may also want to check the inventory design i made here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/35841-l0gins-suggestions-for-dayz/ which includes a system that links clothing to inventory size. So you would start out with civilian clothing and fairly limited space, and as you find other different clothing your space gets increased or decreased. I say both because now say a bullitproof vest can be added, that comes without any bags, to replace a jacket that comes with 4 slots. Or armored pants that come without pockets. Then again you may find boots (cowboy style) that let you put some items in, giving 2 more slots ... etc... So yeah, a more dynamic inventory that gives all sorts of options for a loadout, but that will likely never entirely be enough to do everything, so there is still value in having one or two friends along ! -
Why is server switching even allowed? What is the logic behind that decision?
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to antnxx's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The reason is quite elaborate and needs some extrapolation of things rocket has said in interviews ... the main thing is him mentioning comming to something akin to an Eve Universe. Now while eve seems to be one big world, the server structure behind it is all but, each server may host one or a couple of starsystems (depending on the amount of people in those systems, and related to the amount of connections a server can handle. So my hunch is that Rockets would like to put the whole world into the game, where every server hosts one (or a couple) of area's of the world, and once you get to the edge of the map, instead of entering wasteland, you enter another map, and to make this function well, it's fairly likely you will switch servers as you cross onto another part of the world. Obviously you will want to keep all your stuff once you cross servers... Now for a one map place i can agree, it doesn't seem to make much all the time, then again, i think it's fairly cool that you can continue your game on another server if the one you happened to have played on is full ... that is a nice feature, but in my views the actual reason is not just that, it's keeping the future option open to create a full blown world hosted by many servers and having these link together so that the player doesn't even notice which server he is on, all that matter is that he can play and have the stuff he collected sofar... -

Anyone else experiencing this???
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to Scutticus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah i noticed this too, there seems to be quite a delay between zombies/loot spawning and me arriving at a certain location. The workaround that sometimes seems to work is to take it slow. Now i realize the empty streets must be quite inviting to get to your desired spawn location, but instead you should likely wait at the edge of town untill you see the zeds spawn. Then wait a bit as they start their route, then find a safe'ish moment to get to your loot... I read here on the forums that loot and zeds spawn at the same'ish time, and that no loot will spawn if you are at a certain location. While this is just hearsay it does seem to comply with this issue. What also seems to 'work' somewhat is make a round through town, visiting all buildings in said town untill you find one with loot in it, then it's fairly likely that all the buildings have now spawned their loot, so from this point onwards your 'real' round around town can start ;) -
Well 'hackers' in CoD and BF generally just use aimbot, HP and ammo 'cheats' to hack, in DayZ though, they just take over the whole server and do w/e the hell they please, like f/e set some random map to play ... kill everybody with a nuke, kick people from the server at will, and all undetected apparently ... so it's deffo not the same kind of hacking...
-
It is fairly likely (in my views) that this game will eventually have a different (if not alot) of maps, will rivers be in them, well i'dd say fairly likely since i think you are the 2nd thread about rivers i seen today ;)

These are currently in the works, whether they will be included in the mod stage is not yet clear, but on one of the presentations Rocket gave he showed a webdesign of the future official site that has all that stuff ... so patience on this one

Stop fixing minor issues or call it 'BETA' !
L0G!N (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
after reading the patch notes 1.7.2.5 again, i knew it was something there, i wanted to add a few things! - I do understand that bug can be annoying, i have to deal with them myself everytime i play, but i have been in beta's that were much worse in regards to bugs than this mod. So my threshhold may be a bit higher for these kinds of things, and i also never said to leave them in there ;) - I realy wanted to mention to Rocket that he should start experimenting again, and care a bit less about how it is received, or the bugs it creates, the FUN for 'him' likely came at the start of the project when he was trying things out. So If the mod can't handle more, than just SCRAPE all the working stuff and Go make and test other stuff! ... Redo the inventory with a sadistic mindset to vent some of your frustration! Test the limit of the loot tables by adding a shit ton of currently useless stuff (just comming up with the things to add will likely inspire you to new things) or stuff that may be usefull at some time. This will presure the loot tables and will make it harder for people to find stuff ... we realy need 'stamina' testing for running from zombies, they can be a bit slower if it wasn't so easy to run from them, and having two knobs to twist will make tweaking zombie/player interaction a lot more subtle and easy... The temperature gage is broken, but it sure is taking up resources in the game, STRIP IT OUT! and use the space to test something else ... what about removing the Eye and Ear icon, surely we don't need them, we will find out ourselves when zeds spot us or hear us... more space in the mod ... Come to think of it, it may well be a lot of fun to vent some frustration by just RIPPING THE MOD APPART! strip it off all you think is useless, half broken, or not even needed! ... Then *sigh* ahhhhh, room for something new ... but wait! Now check for things that work great, but could be replaced by something else entirely, broken bones/bleeding? they work fine, but they can be replaced by 'infection' and broken arms? or perhaps something else entirely ... Free up the MOD to have space to Test! and go do what you like doing, building a new mod/game !! :) ... THIS IS ALPHA!! <insert sparta meme here> ... So with the bare essentials for us to play, you have a lot of room to experiment other features that you may currently not have room for in the mod, which i think will greatly enhance your spirit, as you will see the game move forward again, and give you some comfort knowing that you already have a bunch of features 'in the kitty' ;) ===original post starting: I have been playing for about a month now, what was supposed to be an alpha mod. In this month i think i seen the true alpha development of: 'addition of a beartrap' ... that was it realy ... no other alpha developement was seen over this whole month ! (yeah, cuz i joined just after the addition of the hatched) For the rest of the month i have seen BETA fixes to serve whiney entitled consumers that have no clue what an alpha is, and only follow some hype in social media. For somebody that was interested in seeing the game grow during alpha developement this has been a somewhat disappointing experience (don't get me wrong the game is great), mainly because i think: anything that doesn't turn up a fully black screen or instantly reboots my computer OR makes the game play <10fps is NOT something that needs fixing in an alpha!! Bugs, exploits, hacks, glitches are realy just poo that happens to drift around in the premordial soup that is this game. it's great they are being identified, but if they don't break servers, the engine or computers, then they can drift in there as much as they want! By the time BETA comes the big ironing will straigthen these things out, eliminate them one by one. And some of the poo may have already been removed as the presure on the game itself (by adding more and more stuff to it) has pressed this game into what we are all after, that gloriously shining diamond of a game. So please Devteam, stop doing Beta stuff while we are in alpha, start adding stuff and break the game, break it by adding more and more to it untill it collapses under it's own weight. We shouldn't care, and we will tell every whiner that: THIS IS ALPHA!! <insert meme of sparta> Unless ofcourse this is it, then PLEASE call it BETA so any time spend on clearing out minor issues, and pollishing the game further, can atleast be understood by somebody that thought he was joining an Alpha ! Tnx for reading, i just realy needed to get this off my chest, and i hope we can soon see some actual alpha work done on the mod. We all want this game to move forward and realy all these little things are NOT alpha concerns. Sure they may ruin your fun a bit at times, but 'fun' is not the reason for an alpha game, in alpha 'we' test features & the engine (or in this case how the mod works together with the already excisting game) and we try to add to it as much we can to see where it breaks, so we can either fix it or remove it... Unlimited ammo? swammo! Beta stuff... gfx glitch? itch! Beta stuff ... Hackers? Smackers! Beta stuff ... Server Jumpers? humpers! Beta stuff ... lol, ok well this apparently sits rather high with me, ill hit post now... ====================== !!!! After reading this thread: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/54319-petition-to-actually-do-something-about-hackersscripters/ and running into my first hacker today, i must change my stance on one things... Up untill now i have always considdered 'hackers' to be of the minor cheating code injectors, but apparently they take over whole servers and the whole game. That is a major issue, so actually my stance isn't changed, my perception of hacking in this game has been changed, where it falls under the catagory, it breaks the game to such an extend that it prevents the game from running. Which as decribed in my OP is a thing that truely NEEDS fixing!- 34 replies

Personally I think this thread actually belongs in the general thread ! Remembered i still had a screenshot under my [print screen] ... so this is what was displayed as soon as i got 'moved' or the map got reset, I did not visit the website yet, as i fear it may not be safe to do so... <- click this safe attachement to see the server message... And yeah i did a search on google and my virus scanner would prefer it if i didn't visit the site ;) -
Can we please try to come up with a consensus?
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to Conor88's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There is this thing about 'how' to deal with things too though, 1. The whole zombie speed thing is more likely to be changed once a weight/stamina system is implemented that prevents players from running from zombies if they are packed with stuff. Untill that happens changing zombies will likely mean they are always meek kittens to be lined up and shot! 2. The end game idea is pretty clear for the most part, and can not be realized within the mod. What can be realized within the mod is more content, stretching out the early-game, and making mid-game more challenging (here the weight thing will come in handy again). So the aim for the mod should not realy be 'end-game' it should be stretching the survival horror idea for as far as it can be... 3. Loading times indeed bug me somewhat at times, but once i am in the game usually runs quite ok for the entire session ... so there is no real problem there, and only minor when i die and have to respawn (esp. on good servers with good ping). And my computer is about 4y old and running XP... ---- So what IS the biggest problem, well after today i think hackers are the biggest problem, because within Arma they are not the general cheating code injectors, but they are basically taking over the game & the server ... unfortunatly Rocket can't do much about that within DayZ, but seeing he is employed by BI, i think he can make clear that they no longer own their own product, and that hackers are shitting in front of their door while standing right beside it laughing about it... All other things in my views are just a minor hassle, and if hackers were just code injecting cheaters they would be a minor hassle too, thing is though, the hacking seems to be way beyond that .... or Arma2 allows way to much in regards to code injecting while a game is actually running. And that needs to be fixed, not for DayZ but for BI as a company, because these mods will effect other games as well, and if Arma3 is like it as well not many people will be interested, or even if they build up a weak reputation, the release may already be lost b4 it ever came out ... so it's very much in BI's interest to do something about this, and protect their otherwise nice game, even the modding is cool! They just need to find a way to devide the modding from the 'running', so the game and mods can be safe :) So if you want to support anything, support the 'Do something about hacker poll' ;) -
Petition to actually DO SOMETHING about hackers/scripters
L0G!N (DayZ) replied to sparta436's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I had my first encounter with a hacker today, i was happily deciding whether to shoot this desynced guy in the back or not, while all of a sudden the map changes on me, i am now in some Arma Deathmatch map, and my first instinct is to abort and hide in the lobby, not soon after various people are dieing ... unfortunatly i can not see who is doing this, as everybody has silly leet names these days ... So when i conciddered hackers, i thought of aimbotters, item spawners, unlimeted HP, basically cheaters. As long as they still somewhat have to play within the game's restrictions they still have to find me to kill me. But apparently hacking games has a whole different dimension than the one i'm used to. And tbqh, i sort of feel for these worthless people that do these kinds of things, it must be the only thing keeping them from blowing their brains out, or knowing one will never get laid without paying makes you do some silly shit... So basically the Arma2 engine is a bit like a leaky basket, and while i understand that in part this needs to be like this to have it be moddable, when these leaks give hackers the option to just break the game and the mod by taking over admin rights as well as basically taking over the game, WHILE it is running... that sort of changes my view on how big the problem is ... I do think this is the right place to voice these concerns, Rocket works for BI and if his mod is affected it won't be long untill these hacks will turn up in other mods aswell, basically killing off BI as a gaming company ... they are basically shitting on BI's doorstep and if BI doesn't do something about that, it will likely loose a lot of credibility with atleast 1million DayZ players ... another part ofcourse is battleye, and here it will depend on what they can actually do about these things, I mean, plugging up a leaking basket must be nearly an impossible job and it must not be very cool to have one's reputation thrown to bits because the game you are asked to protect can't realy be protected if the Dev's of that game open up every door in it ... Lastly, do i think Rocket should do something about this ? well seeing him talk about this at some interview or presentation it was pretty clear to me he can not do much about it within the confines of DayZ, so there is little he can do coding wise. Do i think he should point out that BI no longer owns their own game, that hackers are shitting on their doorstep and are laughing right beside it, YES, i do think that may well be within his power ...
