Will the SA Ever Feel like This?
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to OhDan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
wow, the panic, the horror. almost forgot the screeching noises zombies made. if the standalone can recapture that immersion, and i´m sure it will, even more so because of all the additions they are about to make to add more depth and new threats (desease, weather, etc.), i envy everybody whose experiencing that gameplay for the first time. i will find new amazing stuff in the SA but that feeling greatly portrayed in the video the OP posted propably cant be recreated for early DayZ Mod players. Edit: that´s the video that drew me into the game. It´s in german. Basically it´s the story of a completely clueless dayz survivor who randomly picks up a side chat talk of people meeting in "some church". A story of trust, survival, zombies, vulnerabilty, having a piss and most of all, even without accomplishing anything, intense gameplay and a real fun gaming experience. The side chat will help you through the story. -
Thank you SO SO much for this patch
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to PimpinSmurf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just dropped in to say this patch is awesome. Brings back all the stuff this game was about and even some more now with the high risk of getting infected, which feels very authentic to me. But there are some weird things going on in the "this patch ruined DayZ" threads: lots of people are basically saying "i want to play chess but please change it more to hungry hungry hippos because otherwise it's hard to learn and boring." So i'm afraid the devs will tweak the game back because not everybody has the skin to swallow all the critique, like Rocket apparently was willing to do when he created DayZ as an "anti-game", which propably even is the base to the "cult" surrounding his persona. But one can hope. Awesome job regarding this patch! -
New Custom Mod - "CruelZ" (Very Basic, Much Harder)
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to Zetal's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Thanks to Zetal who activated the server for me, i was finally able to test the mod: I managed to stay alive for about an hour: got chased by 35+ zombies while making my way to Elektro. Got cornered several times but finally managed to find an AKM and dodged them in the police station with the ladder glitch on one of the upper floors. ran to the woods north of elektro. some zombies still figured out where i was. i ran a good 7-8 minutes further up the hill, when i realised i had to go to the toilet. looked around ingame. listened for a while. nothing. went. came back: zombie roaring. just came back in time to save my character from getting eaten, and killed about a dozen loosely following zombies that somehow still managed to track me down in the woods. got cocky and returned to the elektro police station to see if there were still zombies looking for me. guess what? there were. but they were scattered around so i tried to stealth my way back into elektro to loot some basic stuff to regain some blood. i didn´t get far: got surrounded by aimlessly wandering zombies in an open field just past the police station. tried left, tried to break through right, forward, back... i was trapped once again. i was down in the mud crawling but one zombie finally spotted me. i headed back to the police station and decided to take the zombie down when, of course, 10 other zombies followed through the door. i ditched the plan and headed out of the police station through the other side, still being chased by zombies, trying to reach one of the nearby houses. i decided to make a final stand in one of the residential buildings. i hid behind the table and shot every zombie showing its face in the doorway. that until my AKM finally produced nothing but a familiar yet uncomfortable clicking sound. i had fired my last shot and was trapped inside the house: death by zombies. Awesome experience. It was really intense from the very start. i spawned at the coast and just a few seconds later zombies were walking down the street next to me. i had to be alert from the get go. Your zombies are by far the most dangerous zombies i have ever encountered, in dayz as well as in real life, and yet they don´t feel overpowered with superhuman senses and abilities. They are just executing their lone last wish: trying to get you at all costs. Awesome job! I don´t know what it takes to keep your server running but i really would like to come back again next time i play dayz. But first i need a break. This was one hell of a tense hour of gaming. Jesus. -
[SA] MONSTER Poll: Every suggestion EVER
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to tocophonic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
finished the poll. if my voice is heared i will be very pleased i took the time. the length of the poll prevents from casual dayz player votes and jokers and part of the intent of dayz seems to be to adress the core dayz player base (basically Rocket himself) and not cater to the masses. me likey! -
New patch coming soon to dayz
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to leviski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
^ i want in on this! -
Best suggestion I've read for this game. And a real game changer. This would have a (positive) impact on the whole dynamic of the game in so many ways. Is it possible for private hives to make every player start with 2000 blood? I'd like to test this idea.

Zombies.nu needs more clans/ squads and folk !
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to FishyDayz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
played on one of their servers yesterday. There were 26 people on the server when i logged in. Played DayZ for the first time in weeks and propably had one of the best DayZ experiences in my humble Dayz career: stable server, high FPS for me (Berezino without FPS drop) which seems to be a problem for me on almost every other server. At one point I was watching through my binoculars a player quite skillfully avoiding to aggro zombies. He was really trying hard and he managed to get into the barn without being noticed (by zombies). Then I looked a little bit to the right of the barn and immediately realized why he was so stealthy: outside the barn were probably 35 zombies roaming about. I don´t know if they tweaked zombie counts or if it was just some sort of glitch but it was awesome. The first zombie horde I´ve ever witnessed in Dayz. And they have a 30 second waiting period for your character in which he stays in the game before you actually can abort (you can cancel the waiting period at any time if your character gets in danger to renew the countdown back to 30) to avoid combat logging. I liked it very much to have to get to some sort of saveplace clearing out the area of the zombies before i could abort. Recommendation! -
Are Cherno and Elektro staying for the standalone? i hope not!
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to elf cakes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When i tried Lingor for the first few times months ago i was very pleased to see i always spawned far far away from the biggest city which name i already forgot. It felt like some sort of end game trying to reach that place which i never did by the way in my approximately three tries. Getting to the city was a real challenge for me, as the OP in one of his follow up posts suggested, it was a survival adventure just trying to get there. i have to say i'm very bad at computer games, something i recommend to all of you: just suck at what you're doing. There's nothing the devs can come up with for the standalone immersion-wise that could compete with sucking at playing the game. You can't imagine the suspense of a game like dayz when you're really bad at it... i know they wont move Cherno or Elektro north of Chernarus but i agree with the OP it would add some survival aspects just to get there. If they leave Cherno and Elektro just as they are but can add an even larger city, a real urban area, north, that would make the map perfect for me. -
...and I'd like to see markers in the loot mix. Statistics tell stranded people on a beach tend to not carry markers with them after crawling out of the sea. Imagine the excitement over a simple thing like a marker! Propably no other game has that to offer.

Music through mic?
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to Tensa Zangetsu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wandered through Chernarus with some Motown Classics blurring through my mic, hoping someone would get my message of peace, love and harmony. Day turned to night, Motown turned to 70ies and as i reached the ancient ruins of Rog, Mama Cass sang "there's a new world coming / this one's coming to an end", as i got shot by some random guy. Totally worth it! -
New Items: Cigarettes/Cigars?
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to IndyAM's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not a game changing idea but as long as it is just a cosmetic addition i see no harm in adding them. If you're desperate to look badass you just have to live with the downside of being spotted easier in the dark and with looting them in first place. I'd love to see a lot more useless things to be added to the loot menu just for the fun of it, for cosmetic reasons or really for no reason at all. Who would ever need those golden chinese welcoming cats but nonetheless the world is full of them... -
Night time pointless? Gamma fix.
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to andrewmont's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
everybody has to decide for themselves but i don't get why people need to adjust their gamma settings. The solution for the lack of light is in the game: use chemlights. Use road flares. Come nighttime i'm hunting the looot piles for light sources. They are not that hard to find, so there is no need for metagaming by adjusting the screen settings. by doing this you neglect the need of light in the dark in order to see. Most of us are spoilt by living in well lit cities. But go out there in the woods on a cloudy night... And of course you would see someone else hundreds of meters away, and even more, when they light a flashlight or just matches. Hell, a glimming cigarette can give away your position. Edit: the flashlights should cause more realistic light effects, though. -
Nope, it's propably the post process effects. Turn them down or off. Most people turn them off anyway because of the blurry vision these effects cause when moving your head or the glow you were describing.

Standalone Poll: First Person Only?
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
you know you can limit the head shaking in the arma options? I started out playing in 3rd Person. But since i stranded on Lingor Island I only play on mercenary servers, 1st person, no death messages, no name tags, no crosshare, no 3rd party loot maps, no server hopping for daytime, no adjusting of brightness and gamma settings during nighttime, no bloodmeter. That's how i like it nowadays. I suck at this game but if you want to play dayz with maximum realism, and i think that is what Rocket intended, 1st person is a must. But i think it's up to yourself so the option of having 3rd person servers can do no harm. -
The "Zombie" Virus and You.
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to RIGHTLY's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like it. I like it very much indeed, except for the 5% chance of being immune to the infection. I like the way you're handling the problem of players forced to watch their character wander around as a zombie by simply being able to respawn, at least after the first symptoms of the infection kick in. I like the coughing of blood leaving behind visible traces idea (not mentioned by you per se but somewhat included in your suggestion) I like the slow demise of the character. I'd never respawn after getting infected. It would greatly add to the experience of the game becoming a highlight of the short life of your character, even if he manages to shake it off. Maybe the zombie close combat you suggested could feature some sort of random button control popping up on your screen while trying to get loose of a zombie (the RMB not always being the trigger) so these encounters keep being interesting and intense and seem less pre scripted. Not very DayZ-like, i know, but it would add to the horror. (and on a side note: i like the idea of scars) -
HUD changes, Bring back the Murder/ Bandit count please!!!
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to DonkiiPuncH's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Now i have the option i turn off all of my HUD icons. No kill counts, no thirst indicator, no blood meter, nothing. Makes things a lot more interesting when you have to look down your body (3rd person off) to check if you're wounded and can only guess by the saturation of the colors how badly you're injured. Let yourself only check your exact blood count in safe places or only on respawn or in the hospital, if at all. Try it, after a while you'll like it. -
WHAT IF: Region's Zombie Spawn was linked to Humanity?
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to bbilbo1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Someone please do this. Awesome idea. Would give a new dynamic to the whole map. Areas with high Zombie count would over time propably shift into safer places because people HAD to work together just to survive. And vice versa. And then vice versa again. -

How do people feel about tents? (not about the bugs)
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to sostronk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
maybe we could try randomly respawning tents of dead players with every server restart. So if you die your tent vanishes from the map but is randomly placed somewhere else in the woods after server restart. your loot is still there but you as a freshly spawned player have no knowledge of its whereabouts while everyone is still able to raid it. In my understanding dayz is trying to be a survival game (Rocket mentioned a few times that this aspect really fascinated him and fueld the idea of dayz) and survival is all about limited ressources and being forced to work around. having your tent come with you through several lifes breaks that immersion. -
Of course. More maps. More different maps. All torn to pieces. The more different stuff we are able to loot the better. It will reduce the Chance of finding exactly what you're looking for which is an elemental part of the survival experience dayz is aiming for.

Direct communication update idea
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit replied to Cupim's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
if i may add, i´d like to be able to scream, may it be for help or simply for checking if someone else is in my area. Way farther than the 80 meters currently provided by the game. Possibly by simply holding a scream button while talking so you can be heared over greater distances since it would cause some real life chaos if 1 million dayz players are sitting in front of their screens screaming for help :)
