Fun thing to do in dayz

I've been doing that for a few days, I'm camping Kamenka and Komarovo, and helping out new spawns looting these towns by keeping the zombies away from them with my M24. I thought at least some people would appreciate this, but most of them freak out and run for cover, and leave the city as soon as possible, even after it's obvious that I'm only shooting zombies. Some disconnect. Some start to shoot at me as soon as they find a weapon. One guy left the city, ran around and tried to sneak on me from behind and shoot me with a makarov (I had to kill him). Other guy found a hatched, ran straight to me and tried to hack me (had to kill him too). I think only one person realized what I was doing. He stood there in the open, looked at me for a few seconds, and proceeded to calmly loot the town and leave.

Difference between M67 Frag and RGO grenades?

That's interesting, I'll have to remember to be extra careful when using them in forests or buildings. I won't be able to run if I miss my throw and hit a tree or a wall...
  3. Found a few RGO grenades in a tent, at first I thought they were hacked as I've never seen them before, but after searching the forums it seems that they spawn in a UAZ somewhere. Anyway, what is the difference between the M67 and the RGO grenades? Damage, blast radius, etc...?

    AS50 or M24

I prefer the M24 for a simple reason: I'm a realism freak, and I use the guns I'd use in real life. I would never carry a .50 cal, they are huge weapons and weight a ton, the ammo is also heavy and takes a lot of space in your backpack. I fired a .50 IRL once, and the recoil was terribly uncomfortable. Ok, it was a bolt action rifle without a recoil absorption system like in the M107 or the AS50, but still... 7.62 rounds are more than enough to kill people, zombies and animals (well, IRL they are). The M24 is a one-shot-kill if it's a headshot. If you can't headshot, you are a lousy and lazy sniper. Learn to shot or stick to the machine guns.

Could use more players on US 1313

Ok, good to hear that it was not a hacker trap :beans:! I was suspicious because I fell for such traps in the past, now I'm very careful when I found a vehicle... Regarding the tents, they don't seem to be working on any server I've been, they just won't save. I have a few tents on other servers, and every time the server restarts the tents revert to the way they where before the 1.7.2.5 patch.

Could use more players on US 1313

I was near Komarovo yesterday and found what seemed to be a fully functional and repaired bus on the middle of the road north of the town. There was no one around, no bodies, nothing. Since it's not a spawn point and the bus was repaired, I instantly thought that a hacker had spawned it and was using it as a bait. I spent over 20 minutes scouting the area to make sure nobody was camping the place, when suddenly someone ran straight to the bus, hoped in and drove away. Yeah, I felt like a dumbass for waiting that long to take it, lol. So I shot him, he drove off, about 10 min later I found him in Balota trying to drive around the road blocks in the street or something. I shot the tires (I wanted the bus!!), he drove away out of my field of view, and exploded a few seconds later. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the bus was spawned by a hacker and abandoned.

    US 1313

I'm Lead Poisoning in game, and I just want to clarify a few things since I've been accused of hacking: I'm no hacker, that character was alive for 22 days, I'm a lone wolf, I'm not a PvPer, I avoid the hotspots as much as I can, I raid mid to small sized towns and deer stands to get my gear instead of killing players and stealing their stuff, hence the high zombie kill count (877 to be precise). I got killed by a hacker, not on 1313 though (invisible teleporting piece of shit), and my new character zombie kill count is 260ish, hoping to reach 1000 this time. KField86 can check my logs, I've never used scripts, although I've been kicked by battleye a couple of times for unknown reasons (hackers presence in the server can cause that I was told, not sure about that though). I don't know this Karou dude, never seen him or any cheater on 1313, apart from the usual tents full of duped items... Anyway, good job on the server, pretty stable and hacker free (from my experience), I'll probably make it my "home" server soon.

    Camo clothes garbage?

If you only have the original Arma2+OA, them the texture on these models are low res. You need PMC and BAF expansions to get the high res textures: http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/images/3/33/Skin_Camo.png http://i.imgur.com/HDU7x.jpg Same with the Ghillie suit.

    Fighting bandits with... dogs!

Good point, but a dog should be able to smell a hidden body, and whoever walked around that spot (I'm talking IRL here, not game mechanics). Not sure how the hiding body mechanics work in game, if it just buries the body, them it could work, the dog could bark to let you know there's a hidden body nearby. But if the game despawns the body after you hide it, then it may be hard to implement.

    Fighting bandits with... dogs!

I reckon dogs will be controlled the same way you control other units in standard Arma2, through the squad commands menu. I'm presuming these dogs will be already trained or trainable at least, not wild rabid dogs you find in the woods :P If you issue a "stay in formation" command, they will follow you around, if you select "stop" they will stay put. You can select a "weapons free" command to allow them to attack everything they see, or you can tell them to "hold fire" :) In the end it'll come up to how you look after your dog. If you use it to attack other players, then I agree, they won't last too long. Ideally, you'd use them to track someone, then order them to stay behind at a safe position while you move in for the kill, or maybe to guard/patrol an area. There's no point in ordering a dog to attack someone armed with automatic weapons anyway...

    Fighting bandits with... dogs!

In the machinima interview, rocket talked briefly about introducing dogs as companions, and how they could be trained to hunt animals and such. One of the guys then suggested something like this: You find a body, your dog smells it and pick up the scent of the murderer, and tracks him down. Realistically, the murderer would only leave his scent on the body if he looted it, but anyway, this would be an amazing way to hunt down bandits, and it could possibly decrease banditry a bit. I mean, I would think twice before killing someone if I knew I could be tracked after that. I believe that coupling this with an efficient way to prevent disconnecting/server hoping would make things a lot harder for bandits...

Ever got shot a few seconds after logging in?

That's what I do too, most of the time. If you absolutely have to log out inside a building (e.g. you are looting the barracks and the missus "asks" you to take the garbage out :P ), back in a corner, facing the door. Make sure you are not touching the walls as I've heard people saying they glitched into the wall when reconnecting and died. Not a common bug, but better be on the safe side. And be ready to fight the moment you log in.

Ever got shot a few seconds after logging in?

Happened to me yesterday (shooting, not getting shot), accidentally though. I entered one of those large industrial sheds, near Vybor, and a guy connected right in front of me. I'm not a PvPer, if I had seen him before i'd have just waited for him to leave before entering the building. But since he spawned right in front of me, armed with a shotgun, I panicked and shot him twice (a quick double tap) with my AK. Sorry dude ;) I reckon he'd have shot me if I tried to talk or run away, but still :P

Whats the point of getting a M16/M4A1/AKS-7U etc?

[2] I love my M249. A lot of people talk about the Mk48 or the M240, but I honestly prefer the M249. Sure its's only 5.56, it takes 2 body shots to kill, but it has a 200 rounds clip (that's 100 bullets per inventory slot!), great accuracy, an insane RoF and low recoil, so who cares?

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.3 Rolling Update

Happened to me as well. Logged in yesterday and both my tents were gone. At first I thought they were robbed and flattened (not sure if they disappear after they are flattened, or just stay there flat) so I went to two other camp sites I know, and they were also wiped.
