Temporary solution to lack of HUD info

While playing I found out that you generally spawn already hungry and thirsty, instead of the full food/drinks of the mod. If you eat and drink (quite a bit) even after the green text, then most notifications will dissapear. Think of the green text as indication that the food meter stoped blinking, but it's still orange and will go red soon. After eating and drinking sufficiently, i looted the entired NWAF including the tents without a single thirsty/hungry/head hurts notification. Further testing with guild mates kinda confirmed it, not for everyone, but it's hard to tell how much those people ate/drank at all.
  3. I stopped reading here. Take off you fan boy goggles and try again. Badly optimized assets that look 2-3 generations old with a litle touch up on textures does not a "great-looking environment" make.
  4. Watching the video with Matt got me a bit worried. SinglePlayer DayZ with about 6-10 zombies on screen and lags everytime he squints towards vybor..? Oh my... I sure hope that was a dual core with 4 gigs ram crappy desktop that someone brought to recicle.
  5. So a friend of mine just told me to get back to DayZ, as it is now free of hackers... Hum... Ok... In less than 15 minutes, I saw a guy spawn an attack helli right in front of me (only to crash it trying to lift off, guess hacks does not give you skill), and then the weirdest thing happened. i started to get the normal menus from arma (bottom left squares with the team mates, squad orders menu), and someone else started controlling my character. How in the actual f*ck is that even possible? So they can just control players now?? Edit:Typo

What the hell is going on with hackers?

I dunno, it just seems it's all gone to hell. Joined ES9 just now, as it's close to me. Even the admin Afrokinito was using a hacked chopper to bomb the sh*t out of elektro. his excuse? "just testing stuff to ban hackers. if you don't like it I can show you the exit door". So yeah, yay DayZ. I tried to take my mind off that, and started hunting for bandits. Saw a sniper in elektro, kill him, hit his mate who passed out and alt+f4'ed, and after ten seconds my screen goes all white with the text "Suck my d*ck monkey" (or something like that, i didn't read it that carefully as I quit quite fast (alt+f4, as it wouldn't even show me the menu once I pressed ESC). I really hope rocket and his team can lock this stuff down. The things they are allowed to do is just ridiculous.

What the hell is going on with hackers?

So basicly, public hive is a no-no now? Wow. That really doesn't make sense to me. The hive is what made DayZ. It's a shame that it's what kills it too. Some parents should be public lashed so to start educating their 12 year olds.

F.T.S.exy pic [F-T-S] (we got your back)

Hey as a member of FTS GRU squad, allow me to make some remarks. Hey it's not our fault that you died... We were just skeet shooting... Low to the ground... And you just happened to be running by... It was a fair accident, and we couldn't just leave those beans there to rot in these kind of times now can't we? xD Hoping the stand alone comes out and it stops the imense flow of hackers going on, I miss DayZ.
  9. Can't join in. Using DayZ Commander. Freshly formatted PC, installed everything, I can see the lobby for about a second and then get noved to the Main Menu without any kind of message. edit: nvmd. Joined through IP. missing valid keys in a few files. Can join other Lingor servers, so what am I missing?

How many registered users are stil active?

Problem is, everyone played the alpha, and are quitting, so what then? What do you think those players that left will do when and if a final product comes out? 90% of them will go "Ah, DayZ. Tried that once. I was fun for a while and then it wasn't worth it anymore", And suddenly you have a released game with no buy value because people tried it, and quit, and 90% are not coming back. And the other 10% will try it again, bitch about servers being empty, and leave to a more populated game.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

No. Hell no. It's the only thing that we have to protect our camps. And will the camp finding hacks and wallhacks, it makes it just a tad harder for them to readi everything we got.

    HURRRR died again!

Same for me. On the other hand, while sniping i see tons of as50 tws. Also shooting a guy right in the middle of the eyes with an as50 and hes just like "i'm not even gonna move", and also have a ghillie guy playing some wierd music already shooting at the wall where I was hiding behind, without him even seeing me (I had upper ground and was looking at him through 3rd person) That's DayZ right now.

    HURRRR died again!

Not really. DayZ on public hive has become pretty much a DM. Suggestion, go private hive. It's your only choice to play DayZ right now.
  14. Sounds like fun, any more info in this private hive? Looking for a new place to "call home".

Things you shouldn't suggest? (Thread idea/game)

With and adrenaline boost while you have it. Making you breathe hard making aiming more difficult. This would happen when you scoped on a female survivor for too long, since you wouldn't really f*ck female zombies (well, most of you anyway...) so making this male necessity arise when you saw a living female survivor. (dat ass....)

Even if playing for less time, these people still play ocasionally. The problem is not the people that quit playing during the week due to work/school, is the people that stopped playing all together. Did they really? Or were 1.3 mil accounts bought, by like 600k people? I know people that have 4 to 6 different accounts, just to have different characters. Something that now they woudln't really do due to the private hives, where they can have different chars on different hives. I'm not really sure on your stance on Private Hives on the standalone, but if your willing to go for it, the number of sales might not reach 1.3 mil (might even be greater aswell, only time will tell). What kind of "marketing" are you guys planning to do once the standalone is released? I would imagine steam just for itself is going to be a huge marketing on itself, but are you (you as in DayZ team/BI) planning on something more than just steam? And no, this thread must never ever die. xD Actually I've seen quite a few valid points raised here (others not so valid).

The problem with DayZ right now, as stated many times before, are the users. Arma 2 is a trusting engine everyone knows that, and the amount of hacking/scripting is just gone out of hand. Even without that, the duping is ridiculous at this point. I've seen 1 person with 1 tent create a huge tent city and dupe the same weapons almost a hundred times (unfortunatly there was some hacked weapons that were duped aswell). A lot of people I know, are just waiting for the Standalone, for 2 reasons. 1 - No hacking (hopefully, it's impossible i know but at least it will break all the know break legs and teleport scripts to a minimum) 2 - No duping (I dunno if it's planned for the stand alone, but a tent "auto-save" feature before a server restart would pretty muchend the weapons duping) No duping meaning more scarce resources, since when you die, no go back to the tent to your infinite weapons cache, meaning scavaging scarce resources, meaning more conservative play so you don't lose everything you own (again, no going back to get everything again) meaning less shoot on sight meaning more social experience. and the no hacking, well, meaning no douchebags, let them leave DayZ and go play their so precious WarZ and leave us in peace to enjoy the game.
  19. Actually, they don't. It's not the first time this has happened in greece, and i'm pretty sure (could be wrong as I can't recall the article word by word) at least one of those times there was convictions. Not the 20 years they are talking about in this case, but 1-3 years for a couple of people visiting Greece. What I don't get is, shouldn't they have asked for a permit to capture said pictures? Meaning it's a military instalation so there will be always suspition, but since it's a formal data gathering for a company shouldn't they require some kind of authorization from the Greek government to capture said data? Don't be ridiculous. Try to have a barbecue, only to have a random guy just climb the wall and take a picture of your naked wife or daughter and spread it all over the internet and your neighbours, and the we'll see if you would take that so lightly as you are taking it now.... And besides, that comparison does even make any effin' sense.

I'm also in software, nothing like games, but production facilities management systems, even though I started for about a year and half, and I quite disagree with this, some parts of it anyway. When i think rocket throws the low budget excuse, I don't really think he means money, but rather "man-hours". I can understand the feeling of "this is my baby, it's me who created I'm the one with the vision and only I can push it forward in a way that I am pleased with", as I've already have that feeling myself and it's quite of a double edged knife. The problem is that people were used to having Rocket to themselves, constantly working on DayZ. And then came the fame (and hopefully fortune, you quite deserve to get an armored tuned car with spikes on the front with DayZ spray painted on the side, that would be badass), and the stand alone, and the interviews, and the meetings, and the presentations and Rockets time to work on DayZ is very very limited these days. And yes, some of you guys say DayZ is dead. Well, kinda.... To be honest Rocket, I would have dropped the mod already. Focus the development on the stand alone. I agree with your vision with releasing the mod to the community, as there are very talented people out there that would love to get their hands on it, but this should have happened already. The whole effort on putting dogs in the mod, just seems wasted to me as people would enjoy it only for a few days, before they change to the stand alone because the hacking is just getting ridiculous. So all that effort, all that time, would actually be wasted. Yes some of the code will be ported to the stand alone, but I imagine quite a few pieces will need to be changed since you already said you can now manage objects instead of just shifting around strings from place to place (hopefully we will see an increased security because of this, since it's harder to "hack" in a full registered object, as the condition of the gun would need to be communicated to the hive, so you have quite a few areas where you can control hacked weapons now), but a lot of that code would be refactored, as I imagine quite a few features in DayZ mod are just quick and dirty hacks so that they can work somewhat properly, as some of the recent bugs seem to reflect this. You now have a team dedicated on the stand-alone (well, a few small teams), while you were (and assume you still are) coding and wasting time on the mod. Time that you do not have right now, and to stop all the hacks and issues DayZ mod is having lately, it would need your full attention for a while. So your not giving yourself fully neither to one project, or the other, and I can't say it for the stand alone, since we haven't seen it yet (I'm quite surprised there isn't an army outside the studio trying to break in just the play the stand alone with you guys while your testing xD), but it's hurting the mod quite a bit. Sorry for the wall of text, and I don't mean to sound negative, but I see a lot of potential for DayZ, and currently is being held back by divided time, hoards of hacker/exploiters, and the community being impatient douche bags that whine and whine without knowing what is going on (Search feature is available ladies and gentlemen), that in the end resort to hacking as well. Oh and by hacking i mean god modes , teleport, infinite ammo, medical boxes with all weapons (ffs i see about 5-6 hacked weapons a day, and I don't get to play a whole lot lately). For those of you that do stuff the likes that I've seen, like a guy just running around playing gangnam style on direct chat while he has speedhack and multicoloured smoke coming out of his ass, making elektro look like a bad disco, well... You can't help but laugh your head off :P EDIT: quick answer I'm with on this, as even on private hives there is hacking and griefing. There is no safe place, there are no friendly people, welcome to chernarus.

Not only inactive players, but as well players with different Arma 2 copies. I myself have 2, none of them banned, I just have 1 for clan/tactical/serious play, and another to screw around and play as a single survivor meeting random people on the way, some of them are still friendly, just for the hero skin, so thanks for that Rocket, other times getting killed and starting over, as the game should be played. But I know a few players that have 4+ accounts, some of them that they don't even have entered for weeks (in some cases months). Yes I do believe you are, but it's kind of fragmented and hard to find as most people can't really use the search feature. And to be honest, that kind of development info should be centralized. I believe the news page is being "wasted" when it could have much more info on the current state of things other than be a twitter reader. Most people don't realize how far you have your hands tied being this a mod on a very trusting game engine, in alpha state no less. I think it's this point that should be better transmitted to those players that are not so tech savvy. My sugestion? Give the news page a more functional layout, be it blogish or news style, and use it to address the players with condensed info instead of loose forum posts. Other than that, great work rocket, thank you for giving us the opurtunity to have fun playing online in a way I, as I can only speak for myself, haven't in a long time.

The problem is that admins have virtually no power on the normal hive, while on private hives they can control more the hacking, even if not completly
  23. Well didn't know where to put this, so here it is. I just learned that the PMC and BAF expansions, aparently make your game more crisp (on some models anyway). My question is: Does it have an impact on performance? Since the expansions fiddle around with graphics quality, does it mess around with performance? Does it have performance tweaks, or it just goes even slower because of all the nice graphics?

What will make DayZ a better Mod?

Better inventory system -> To be released on StandAlone. Better Controls? Why? I cannot see what is wrong with the current ones. Besides, You do know you can edit your key mapping right? For a better DayZ. More zombies, on a single spawn. A city should be filled with zombies, and nothave a few, and make them appear out of thin air. After a city is cleared, maybe spawn a horde comming from another city. Yes, technically this would be a b*tch to implement I know. But it would be awsome. Better zombies -> To be released on StandAlone. Cars. Cars should be hugelly common, specially on larger roads, where there would be traffic chaos of everyone trying to run away. You could scavenge fuel (super rare) from those cars, and some parts if they were in good shape. This would be more realistic, as there would be a bunch of cars, easy to find and get running. But getting fuel would be super hard, and not get infinite fuel as it is now, because the little fuel that would be left after a zombie apocalipse (everyone would just fill tanks and run until the car stopped), would be most of it already scavenged but other survivors.

    DAYZ BANDIT LIVE STREAM

Oh we did. Don't worry. Props to Team Asia, who got the drop on them before we could find out wich server he was. Good job. And then I killed him as a new spawn just by principle. It's not fun to be a fresh spawn and be sniped by an asshole now is it?
