DayZ Standalone Confirmed
sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to griffinz's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Call me super-pessimistic, but I fear the current state of the game has tarnished the reputation of a potentially amazing standalone version of DayZ. Over the course of the past 3 weeks, the amount of unique players has increased a lot, but at the same time, the amount of active players in the past 24h has dropped by about 50k (which is about 25% of what it was before). To me, this looks like a lot of new people wish to try DayZ out, only to be greeted by hackers, lightspeed Zeds, graphical glitches and the worst inventory-UI system known to mankind and then just log-off, never to look back again. I fear the hype is slowly fading away and putting resources and money into the development of a standalone version of DayZ might hurt BI rather than help it (ArmA3 only fills a specific niche market), and I hope BI doesn't "need" DayZ to survive. Yes I fully realise this game is an alpha version of a modification of a (poor) engine and I do like this game still (even though I haven't bothered logging in for quite a while because I can't find my way through the city of white and grey triangles anyway), but taking a look at the forums and you'll notice that a lot of people don't seem to realise this, and you know what they say: you never get a second chance for a first impression. Please prove me wrong, Rocket/BI. -
Is Camo Clothing still bugged?
sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to Supersnuten's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Camo in 1.7.2.5 ate my ALICE pack and gave me back my Coyote Patrol Pack. The first 8 items of my ALICE pack were still in the Coyote Pack, the other 12 items were gone. So yea, remove your backpack before putting on the camo clothing and pray to God the pack is still there on the ground when you pop back to where you were. -
Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.5
sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Some bugs I have found in the game that still exist in 1.7.2.4: - Changing clothing while having an ALICE pack (and possibly other, non-standard packs as well) equipped, resets the pack to the Coyote Patrol Pack with 8 random items from the ALICE pack still intact in the Patrol Pack (so if you had 20 items in the ALICE, you'd end up losing 12 items). - Tiny ledges and borders are still more lethal than Zeds or Players. -
Solution to this problem: survey the scene and move in when you're sure it's safe. First thing I do when approaching a city or town, is sit on higher ground a fair distance away from the first couple of buildings, and spend a few minutes scanning everything. Check for player movement, dead zeds, weird zed behavior. Once you find some binocs it's even easier, because then you can be so far away from a town to not spawn any zeds whilst still being able to scan the streets (aka: if you see Zeds in the town at this point, there's a player near). When entering a big city, I stay low and slow at all times. When I hear shots I determine the location and then either move out of the city completely, or move to a different part of town. In very few cases I do go out to hunt the person shooting, but that's only when I have little to lose (barely any gear and an Enfield) and the shooting sounds way too close for my comfort. In the 3 weeks I've been playing so far, I've only been killed by a player twice. Once by a sniper in Stary and once when completely unarmed in Cherno. Other than that I have seen a lot of players running about close to me, but they can't kill you if they don't even know you're there.

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.4 Rolling Update
sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
If you're looking for a co-op Zombie shooter, then surely there are other alternatives out there that actually do promise you that type of gameplay. You don't hear me shitting on Nintendo because Super Mario Bros isn't a WW2 shooter, do you? Or raging because Mortal Kombat doesn't allow me to buy a house and decorate it myself while looking for a good job to support my pregnant wife that can't seem to figure out where the bathroom door is? -

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.4 Rolling Update
sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
1. Clothing still bugged? I found some camo today on a player I killed. I equipped it, got teleported to the debug plains for a split second and then back to my original location with the camo gear on, but my ALICE pack was replaced by the standard Coyote Patrol Pack (with half the gear from the ALICE pack in it), the other half was destroyed. I checked the ground in a 20m radius but didn't find the ALICE pack. Note: the ALICE pack I had was from that same player, I didn't immediately notice I also looted the camo clothing, so I put the camo on about 10 minutes after equipping the ALICE pack. 2. Graphical glitches and unremovable barbwire fences Some joker decided to deploy 6 barbwired fences and 4 hedgehogs in the Cherno fire department. This resulted in a +-300° view full of grey/brown/white glitches (North was the only direction that didn't go derp on me. To add insult to injury, I couldn't remove half of the fences no matter where I was trying. I spent 5 minutes walking back and forth and left and right until the menu option would pop up, but to no avail. 3. Crawling over 1" high edge is still more lethal than an elephant bull in full musk I lost 13k blood (and broke a leg, but that doesn't really matter when you're at -1k blood) simply by crawling close to the edge of a container. 4. Thank you for removing the respawn button I actually saw 6 low-geared people at Berezino today. And for the first time ever I actually saw someone else at the NE airfield. -
Worst Game Experience ever

1) Find a map online, use it to find friends (if both of you run towards eachother, it would barely take 10 minutes for you to meet up, 15 if you stop in a village for basic supplies first). 2) When near buildings, crawl, because Zeds will spawn close in that area. Even if they spawn "right" behind/in front of you they won't spot you instantly lest you jump up and start sprinting. 3) If you do absolutely fail to sneak past Zed and you have to run, keep in mind that they use sight to lock on to you. They can't follow that which cannot be seen. 4) I do agree with one point, a basic melee attack like a shove would be neat to have. You shouldn't be able to punch a Zed to pulp, but a pushing them over to buy 2-3 seconds of time for you to run away from them would be welcome (lest you sprint full speed through a town). And I'm not talking about a spammable shove like the one in L4D, just one with a slow-ish animation and a few seconds of "cooldown", one that can be used in a situation where you're alone against 1 Zed. -

Less spawns near the bigger cities or PvP-hubs, more spawns in the middle of the map and not just along the beach. It would be pretty exciting to spawn in a forest without a sense of direction and you just start running in a direction until you find a road and/or town ans go from there. -

I don't get it why people are so mad about the removal of the respawn button. Concern: spawn in the debug plains Answer: Rocket already stated that any spawn outside of the map border will be redirected to a random spawn along the magnificent beachside Concern: hacker teleports me to the debug plains Answer: Rocket said that he may look into conditional respawning (e.g. legs broken = possibility to respawn, location in debug forest = possibility to respawn) Concern: now I can't spawn near my friends and I have to run instead Answer: the time it takes for you to cycle through a load of respawns just to get to a location near your friends is roughly the same as the time you spend spawning once and running to the nearest town, finding some food and a hatchet/gun and making your way inland to meet your friends (in short: it's an illusion, you don't actually save time by respawning over and over (in some cases you actually lose time, depends on your luck) Concern: I need to spawn close to where I died to get my gear back Answer: tough look, this mod is based on the simple fact that you have one life and if you fuck up you lose everything. Minimizing the possibilities to get your previous character's gear back on your own is a good thing and in line with the concept of the mod I personally have never used the respawn button and have always spent the time running to my friends (mainly because the satisfaction is greater hen you finally meet up in the middle of the map somewhere (and trying to pinpoint eachother without a map/compass/GPS is even more fun)). --- Concern: hackers Nothing to do with Rocket or DayZ, look at BI and/or BattleEye for this one, so stop saying that Rocket needs to stop adding new things or fixing other bugs and fix hackers instead. You'll get banned and blacklisted from every future game. Rocket will also add your name to the Professional Database of United Professionalism where people and companies go to to find out whether to hire or work with you or not (trustworthy and all that jazz). Your entire future will be crippled when you log off for 20 minutes. Alternatively, you could read this thread, or more specifically Rocket's post and find the answer to your question. -

Newly spawned players should have a chance to spawn with a condition!. Like allergies, brittle bones, bad hearing, bad sight, etc. I'd love to see the shitstorm following such an implementation, combined with the lack of a respawn button. -

Should I suicide? - No food/water or weapons and only 1200 blood
sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to CoolCain10's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't give up. I've survived on my own without a weapon and 20 blood (I shit you not, though I did have a friend that was on his way to me with a blood bag, but that didn't stop me from sneaking my ass to the Zelenogorsk supermarket) and getting to about 1k blood on the food there). Just go to the nearest town, be as sneaky as possible, enter houses looking for food and water. Who knows, maybe you'll find weapons, or even better: a hatchet and some matches (the 2 key components to a relaxing life in DayZ). You'll also feel your heart skipping beats every time you hear a Zed moan whenever you crawl past him. -

Day Z is soon to be dead
sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to Henyo10's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I will when I get home from work, as all of the game-related sites appear to be blocked here, other than this one for some odd reason. Anyway, it was something along the lines of slaughtered zombies dropping stem cells and those stem cells can be used for trading and purchasing items. All fine and dandy, but not when the next line said that bundles of stem cells could be bought for proper money. -

sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to Henyo10's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Translated: either spend weeks farming enough currency to buy something, or grab hold of your Paypal-purse and buy it mere seconds after spawning. Nope, it doesn't require in-game transactions, but it sure as hell makes life a lot easier, especially if you want to skip the entire game and just move straight on to camping in a bush with your gold gear. -

Power of observation, son. I have yet to see an online F2P-P2W game that isn't completely destroyed by the amount of people that just buy everything they need and then go on to rape the content or other players. There is no doubt in my mind that War Z will be different. -

sktrooper@hotmail.com replied to Henyo10's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In War Z there will be safe zones where you can buy supplies for real money (also possible with ingame currency (stem cells), just 20x slower). You're right about the maps being smaller, but surely that doesn't change the fact that it'll be a pay-to-win game. People complain about Russian hackers in DayZ, but I can't wait to see the War Z forums when someone got sniped from a 3km distance at night with a golden silenced AS50 with thermal scope. Woops, I died. Time to spend $5 and get full gear again.
