Things that SHOULD be in Dayz by tomorrow...
Dr Cheese replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Needs exploding pumpkins and zombified trees (think Lord of the Rings on acid) imo -
Rocket and team are Lazy/Incompetent/Do not know what they are doing.
Dr Cheese replied to TheDee (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be fair as far as I can tell Rocket has been a one man band up until very recently, and has publicly admitted that he is not altogether competent at development. The whole thing blew up unexpectedly... just give it a bit of time I think, anyway as it stands I kind of like the fact that its somewhat of a blank canvas at the moment. -
Have you tried the memory flush - when you get the fps drop, press shift key and numpad minus key together, then type the word flush, you won't see a cursor but the screen should go black momentarily. Other than that I don't know.

Log out in stary, log in on the coast near solnichniy.
Dr Cheese replied to Kuronama's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Same here. Logged off near the northeast airfield, when I logged back in I was just down the coast from Cherno. Then some hacker turned me into a dog. -
I have played dayz for 3 weeks or so now and i have a issue about screen freeze about every 1min-5min for a couple of seconds Have you always had this problem, or has it recently started? Do you get this problem in the base game? i have turned down graphic on uber low and using 1280/720 resolution Low settings forces cpu render on some options, your cpu could be a bottleneck my pc spec is: Radeon 5550HD 2.1 ghz dual core intel 4Gb ram i got an old western digital hardrive with 250gb on it Is that a 5400rpm drive or 7200rpm, also what are your virtual memory settings? What operating system? Have you read this: http://dayzmod.com/f...phics-properly/

LOL I found my first one in Berezino last night. I haven't had any unfortunate mishaps yet...

Where dat patch at? 1.7.2.5?
Dr Cheese replied to UsuallyFriendly's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wouldn't be at all surprised if they put the mod on the back burner and are now focused more on the standalone. -
You'll be running DX9, big difference there, DX10 cripples my gts250 so I force dx9 with the -winxp switch

Where I Think Dean Might Have Gotten Some Of His Ideas For The Game..
Dr Cheese replied to xXxSlyWolfxXx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally speaking many elements of dayz remind me of the Stalker games - the general atmosphere, looting, inventory management, pve, and various mechanics like bleeding out and bandaging, the need to eat and also the general harshness of the game where a multitude of threats could kill you with one false step. Even the music such as it is is reminiscent of the Stalker soundtrack. I don't know if Rocket has ever listed it among his influences but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were. I see Dayz as a natural evolution of those elements into a multiplayer environment, an opportunty that was missed by the Stalker devs despite the early promise showed by the Faction Wars mode in Clear Sky. Shadow of Chernobyl alone sold 2 million copies, iirc the whole franchise shifted 5 million units so It was surprising that Stalker 2 had such a troubled development with GSC cancelling it last year, although rumours are circulating now that Bethesda may have aquired the rights. Interestingly, some of the original Stalker 2 dev team are now working on Survaruim, a f2p mmorpg which will be one to keep an eye on: http://survarium.com/en/ -
People, please. Stop mislabeling.
Dr Cheese replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What to call a murdering bandit though? A murdit or a banderer? Makes my head spin... -
Yeah I used to get this problem way before dayz in arma/oa. In the Nvidia control panel arma 2 profile I set *Maximum Pre-rendered Frames* to 8 and It sorted it. In your case I would experiment and tweak it a bit because if you set it too high you might get input lag, it will depend on your hardware. It's worth a try anyway....

Is the map handmade for the mod or was it existing?
Dr Cheese replied to Cyborg Ninja's topic in New Player Discussion
Well for me the best thing about it is the editor, I never even bothered with the campaigns. The editor is where the game really comes alive, there is nothing else like it out there as far as I'm aware. Once you learn it and get into scripting it's very powerful. Some of the modules are awesome - the Ambient Combat Module for example spawns random units on the map and you get huge battles going on, it's total carnage with jets and choppers flying over bombing the sh*t out of the ground troops, tanks and apc's. I run it with JSRS sound and Blastcore Visuals which are mods that improve the sound and particle fx which admittedly are a bit bland otherwise. Some of the singleplayer scenarios like "War Welcome" are great too, they're like a real-time strategy game in first person. -
Ghost Towns Come With Ghost Loot?
Dr Cheese replied to DRUNK_JESUSx561's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was in Cherno couple of nights ago, not one zombie or player to be seen. Plenty of loot though and a dead cow on the outskirts with 8 steaks on it. Nice! Kinda felt like I'd slipped into some parallel dimension or something. -
I think you have to eject when flying above -maybe 500m?- or so, then the chute will open automatically, otherwise you be eating dirt. That's how it is in vanilla arma anyhow.

Since the last update 1.7.2.3 I get freezes while in game, every 10 - 20 seconds or so the game locks up, and I get a black screen with "Receiving..." text for a few seconds, then back to normal. I generally play on low pop servers, always UK servers, and had no problems lke this until the last Dayz update. *Which version of the game did you purchase? STEAM or RETAIL or MIXED: *Retail *Are you running an Arma 2 OA beta patch? If so what version?: *No *Which method are you using to launch the game? I.E Sixupdater/steam/batch file: *SixLauncher *Your PC specs: *CPU: QX9650 stock speed *RAM: 6gb DDR2 800MHz *GRFX: GTS250 1024MB *Your Operating System: *Win 7 Home 64

I have a shit graphics card so I leave it as it is, and set max frames ahead to 8 in teh nvidia control panel, otherwise I get microstutters and freezing in game...
-
You have to be above a certain height or parachutes wont deploy...
-
Having pre-rendered frames too high can cause input lag, check your settings.
-
I was getting the receiving screen a lot with 1.7.2.3 but since 1.7.2.4 it has stopped completely, yay! sorry I can't help!
-
Well you could try the config file in documents/ArmA 2/ArmA2OA.cfg, the Resolution_w= and Resolution_h= settings, 5th and 6th lines down. Make sure the Render_W= Render_H= further down are the same too. Hope that helps!
-
I haven't had this problem at all. I've got the -winxp switch on so I wonder if it's direct x related? My graphics card is an old gts250, is it only affecting newer hardware?

Is this a starving game?!
Dr Cheese replied to FriendlyJesper's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I get loads of food and drink off dead zombies. The farmer zeds and the suits often have food and soda on them. -
My fellow players, a revelation which has occurred to me:
Dr Cheese replied to chunkeymonkey79's topic in New Player Discussion
Personally I enjoyed the hell out of games over the years. I still play the Stalker games with and without some of the great mods, I'm on my ninth play through of Far cry 2, Metro 2033 was linear but quite brutal at times. Endless hours of fun in Fallout 3 and I haven't even got New Vegas yet. I never really got into the COD games so i'm not missing out there. Had loads of fun with the Battlefield and Ghost Recon games though. And I had Arma 2 since release and still have a great time in the editor setting up huge battles and watching them play out (Ambient Combat Manager FTW). I loved the first Dead Space, not so much the sequel, played it through about 10 times so far and will do again . So yeah basically I'm not complaining at all. Seek out the games you like, support them and you get out what you put in. And if you don't like what's on offer you can always get into the modding scene and have a go at doing something yourself, you never know you might end up making the next dayz! -
Something we need to remember, preferably the newbies who want to know about this.
Dr Cheese replied to Texas Red's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Always been a pretty uneventful experience for me whenever I've been there, apart from like a million zeds. I do like the dead pit though.
