Air Drops, a way to mix-up the PvP and camping
Gogster (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
An idea, could be crap could be good - you decide. I'll throw this out there, but I've no idea how difficult it would be to code, here goes: Possibly remove the military tents or reduce the loot to ammo. This is the start of the measure to reduce camping and be the carrot for the next bit. Periodically have a plane fly overhead and drop 'supplies' which would consist of military, food & medical high yield. Players would have to watch the path of the plane to track where the air drop is going to land, but it would not be totally random, a collection of 10-20 zones, generally in clearings around the map. Hopefully this would have the effect of coaxing campers out of the towns and cities and into other areas of the map, creating a scenario where PvP could happen anywhere. Over to you guys to pull apart :) -
Ultimate guide/information thread to increase performance
Gogster (DayZ) replied to suspense's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I don't know how you're qualifying your statements, but considering BF3 at ultra run at 45-55 FPS and Skyrim maxed runs at 60 FPS, my finger points back to the mod. If you can run vanilla Arma without arsing with the files I'll give that a check in a bit and see what the FPS is like. The circumstantial evidence from a number of users on these forums and guys in our group who can happily play other games, but see their FPS go through the floor when playing this, supports the theory that something is happening with either Arma or DayZ. -
Ultimate guide/information thread to increase performance

Do not defrag if you are running on an SSD drive. These suggestions whilst appreciated have made little difference to my FPS, it is still a lowly 24-26. However a very good friend who has an older GFX card and generally an older system is running around 45-55. This is not tweaking the settings, this is a bug within the rendering of certain GFX set-ups. Prior to the mod being updated (not today, the previous one) I used to get 35-40 on my old card. -
I'm the same - I created my own thread this morning but I thought I'd log in after the patch and see whether there has been any improvement, it's very minor - gone to 22-25 FPS. My post has disappeared below all the other troubleshooting posts, but I'm still having the problem.

Air Drops, a way to mix-up the PvP and camping
Gogster (DayZ) replied to Gogster (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree and disagree. Yes the helicopters can be a good pull but there's no indicator to show players that a helicopter has spawned, so there's no draw to get people to come out to it (aside from players telling there friends on TS or those that stumble on it) Also, whilst the military high yield spawns remain, players can ignore the helicopters as they know they can go to the airfield for decent military equipment. -
Air Drops, a way to mix-up the PvP and camping

I did think about this, my only reasoning would be they were [the UN] dropping weapons to help the survivors of this terrible virus survive, until an intervention force can be mobilized. Would that cover it? Probably not, lol. -

Apologies, I searched for "air drops" -
If you use: http://dayzdb.com/map#5.109.111 It gives you the Cyrillic spelling of the town, along with the 'English' spelling.

Apologies, I put tents when I meant "military high yield locations", I'm not suggesting getting rid of player tents. -

I'd like to think of it as an alternative to the high yield military spots, rather than them existing on the map together. Otherwise you wouldn't get the attraction of people wanting to get what was in the drop. It would match whatever the re-spawn rate is of the high yield military, or maybe a bit more scarce as another way of attracting players to track it would be the multiple type (military, medical) that would spawn in it, making it very attractive to players. -
Been suggested a number of times.

You hit on a good point. This idea could make the game unfair (as if fairness seems to matter!) as if a player is unlucky enough to be off the server when the air drop kicks in, on a number of occasions they would miss out contesting for it. Or it could have the alternate effect of making people contest for the better guns by even more PvP... As for the source of the drops, if we're assuming the whole world is not taken over - the UN could be the source. -

For the love of Christ... alt+f4 is a system command, it has nothing to do with the game. -

I agree. To the OP - good stuff and maybe it could be posted in the absolute beginners area? (p.s. couldn't you have used squares, look like my nephew has scribbled on it :P )

Great firefight in Elektro last night
Gogster (DayZ) replied to Xeno =tgt='s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good story. This is why I hope they do not change the set-up of the game too cater for the moaners. The fact that you start with practically nothing makes people take care in a fire fight, instead of running round the battlefield a la BF3/CoD knowing they'll re-spawn with the kit they started with. DayZ makes you want to survive and kill the other guy, but by careful manoeuvring not by being a headless chicken. I love the PvP fire fights with equally armed foes. -

Yeah, Rocket mentioned they were rudimentary in an interview - but wanted a way to make it obvious to players they were bleeding.
