How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?

My advice to people that don't like playing with 3PP but feel like they have no choice because 1PP-only pubs never have players: Find a good private hive server that's 1PP-only. I know of at least two, one in Texas (DayZ Underground) and another in the central time-zone (can't remember the name, somethingsomething Heli something), that have heavy player-traffic at peak hours. The central time-zone one is actually one of the most heavily trafficked servers in the world. Private hives are the only 1PP-restricted servers you'll find with good player counts. It just doesn't happen on public. 3PP is here to stay. It's completely game-breaking in myriad ways (we're talking about a magic third eyeball floating several feet above and behind your head in a game that's supposed to be sim-oriented), but it's essential for making DayZ more accessible to casual players, a portion of whom eventually mature enough to see the merit of 1PP-only and come over to those servers. It's a necessary evil, in other words. 3PP is like training-wheels on a bike. This is the internet. I advise thicker skin.

    Mosin vs M4A1

This is an amusing post. Bud, you're either full of it, or you are GROSSLY bad at ranging. At 400 meters (objectively confirmed) with a Mosin and a PU scope, the enemies are little more than half-a-dozen pixels on the screen. The PU scope has 1.35 magnification currently (which is apparently a bug, because it's supposed to be 3.5x), so it's only slightly better than ironsights. And you're claiming you're a deadshot on strafing targets at 300 meters, with iron-sights? Regardless of the m4's accuracy right now, you obviously don't know what 300 meters actually looks like. With no magnification at all, you'd be trying to hit a speck of pixels that might not even be bigger than your crosshair.
  3. Bought the Standalone several days ago, Played it plenty now. I don't care that it's alpha. The SA is already exponentially better than the mod version of DayZ. I think this is reason enough to buy the Standalone. Afterall, the SA is cheaper right now than ARMA 2: CO was, which is effectively what many of us had to buy to play the mod. Throw in that Rocket has confirmed that during alpha the Standalone is going to be priced cheaper than the beta and full game, and if you know you'd buy the game at full-release anyway... why not just buy it now, and save money? Frankly, this is a no-brainer to me.

Random Character Wipes need to be fixed

1.) It's alpha. 2.) Rocket has publicly stated that DELIBERATE character wipes will occur routinely throughout the alpha and beta stage, to fix exploits or simply because some other change to the game will make it necessary to clear everyone's existing inventory. So don't expect Rocket's team to care much about any merely accidental character wipes, bud. You are effectively a play-tester right now, and a play-tester expects to deal with game-breaking bugs as a matter of course.

I Did Some Testing Regarding the M4 Accuracy

All your thread does is make 'suggestions' for changes to the weapons. You didn't do any objective testing on the existing weapon factors at all. Quit reaching for an opportunity to plug your thread, you dork. To the OP: Thank you for posting this. You answered two important questions for me which I could not find the answer to anywhere else on the net: - A badly damaged / damaged / worn MP buttstock has no difference in dispersion decrease from a pristine MP buttstock, for the time being. - A deployed bipod has no penalty to weapon performance when standing or crouching... so we should always just keep it deployed, saving potentially precious seconds during a firefight.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

I don't think you, or anyone else needs to worry about the DayZ devs getting complacent. Actually, I suspect right now they're in overdrive mode, scrambling to fix the major bugs and expand content as quickly as possible. Why? The War Z is claiming a fall release, and just looking at the claimed features at this point, it's a superior experience to DayZ (whether or not it's ripping it off)... even putting aside the game-breaking bugs DayZ has, like this artifacting fiasco. I doubt it's a coincidence BIS finally committed to DayZ shortly after The War Z's detailed public reveal. We are seeing the advent of a new genre, and it's about to become competitive.

vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?

Anyway... Speaking as someone whom currently has multiple vehicles collected among his four-person 'team'... I fully support reducing the vehicle despawn-and-reset-when-not-in-use interval to 3 days instead of 7. I agree, 7 days is far too long. And if I'm not using a vehicle for more than half a week, not even for storage, then I don't deserve to have it. Let a player who is more active in the game enjoy it. Oh yeah, and guys? Pro tip? You really wanna hold on to your vehicles, then DON'T HIDE THEM ON THE MAP FRINGES. THAT'S WHERE EVERYONE LOOKS. Be a boss and pick a clever location in the center of the map somewhere. Thick copses of evergreens off in the middle of the woods with no obvious landmarks, taking care it's not on some logical straight-line trajectory between two places players are likely to visit. I have hidden vehicles in the middle of the map on a server in the 90th percentile of popularity for WEEKS.

vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?

You have exactly one non-crap vehicle there. Good luck hiding those rainbow-colored civilian vehicles on a server that actually has a lot of players for any length of time. Get more than one UAZ, multiple motorcyles. And maybe the Gaz (fastest vehicle on pavement in the game, huge fuel capacity, only one per server). Then I'll be impressed. P.S. lol @ your tractor. Why even bother?
  9. Just wondering if there is a known best-optimized driver for ARMA 2. Since it's a 3 year old game, it's plausible there are older drivers that run the game better than the latest ones. That's frequently true of older games, in my experience.

    Hackers....

Tell me, can you think of any other game that has cheaters which can join a server and instantly kill everyone, everywhere on the map? That can drop a bomb on every player? Turn every player into an animal? Teleport every player a mile into the air? Needless to say, I've been playing multiplayer shooters since Counter-Strike was a beta build amateur mod, and ArmA 2/DayZ is the only game I've ever seen this in. The only game ANYONE has ever seen this in. Of course no public ant-cheat is reliable, but BattEye sets a new low for impotency. It fails to prevent even the most basic forms of client-to-server hacking. It is so toothless its comical. And I don't want to hear "but, but, ArmA 2 engine is really easy to hack!" Bastion Sutter's BattlEye has been commercially linked to ArmA for 5 years now, if he still hasn't figured out how to make a remotely effective anti-cheat engine for it then BIS needs to to take their contract with him, set it on fire, and piss on the ashes... and cease giving that incompetent clown and his worthless anti-cheat engine the illusion of professional legitimacy.

    Recent Loot Disappears

Too bad in that second instance of mine I played an additional 20 minutes before logging out. Still didn't prevent the magical meat-lovers transformation.

    Recent Loot Disappears

I've had something similar happen recently, twice, only it involved recently acquired items being transformed into other items, either into or from raw/cooked meat. The first time, two raw meats I had recently picked up from my tent to deliver to a friend transformed into two DMR clips upon changing servers. It may be relevant to note that right before I picked up those meats from the tent, and I had also clicked over two DMR mags into my inventory. All items were in my active inventory (i.e. not my backpack). I ended up with four DMR mags. Bonus, right? Well, the next time wasn't so fortunate... The second time fully 10 precious items in my backpack transformed into cooked meat upon relogging. A blood bag, 7 STANAG SD clips (yeah, ouch), a spare map, and a spare compass. I had acquired these items off a dead player I found. And unlike the first incident, I had played a good 20 or 30 additional minutes before logging off after obtaining these items.

Server wide inventory hack on US 417

BattlEye just isn't cutting it. Rocket needs to make getting support for punkbuster or something a priority. No public anti-cheat engine is reliable, but BattlEye sets a new low.
  14. You're making the obvious mistake of presuming that the ONLY way to increase zombie difficulty is to increase their mere numbers. Half a thousand other ways to do it, chief. The OP has the right idea, if not precisely the right implementation. The rest is solved by the post directly above mine: reduce the rate of military loot spawn.

    death of a legend

You guys should ask yourselves how he found an anti-material sniper rifle and whatever other gear he was using all that time to survive while only having to kill three zombies total. It's clear he had no early or mid game character building whatsoever. And there's only one way you do that. It's amusingly typical of a cheater's mind and delusional self-perception that he artificially inflates his in-game 'achievements' directly resulting from said cheating. Well done fitting your player-category's stereotype so pathetically well, OP. /facepalm i don't know what's worse. That you're too (extraordinarily) thick to put two and two together about the OP, or that you use spawn-scripts yourself. It's clearly one or the other.

    Why do regular/recruit servers exist?

Headbob on 0 still has some headbob, fyi. I normally like headbob in shooters. I've just never seen headbob anywhere near as intense as ARMA 2's default headbob setting before. And I really don't think its realistic at all when it's taken to that extent. You mention camera movements? That's exactly the point, actually -- it feels like a bouncing camera, and NOT my eyeball view.

    Why do regular/recruit servers exist?

I mean nametags are trivial relative to third-person, in terms of the unrealistic advantages they grant. Sure, in and of itself, nametags are very advantageous. Just not nearly so much as third-person. So my point is, for the fourth time, when someone laments that nametags are contrary to the spirit of DayZ, then that argument MUST ALSO INCLUDE being against server-settings like third-person. You can't have it both ways.
  18. leehwgoc@gmail.com

    Why do regular/recruit servers exist?

You shouldn't reply to a post if you only barely scan it and respond to a single sentence or two without bothering to note the context and larger point of the entire post. You clearly haven't understood the overall point that first post of mine here clearly made.
  19. leehwgoc@gmail.com

    Why do regular/recruit servers exist?

It's probably that you haven't set head-bob to zero. DayZ's FOV is no different from most other shooters. The only thing weird about ARMA/DayZ in first-person in regard to other shooters is 1.) extreme headbob unless you tone it down in the game options 2.) a default mouse smoothing value of 30, which is ridiculous.
  20. leehwgoc@gmail.com

    Why do regular/recruit servers exist?

So every server with third-person enabled, then. If you're making a point here... well, you're not making a point here, actually. To reiterate the point for the third time: A.) Continue to permit myriad server-side options to tailor DayZ's challenge, easy or hard, and pick what you like without complaint. B.) Remove ALL such advantageous settings -- THIRD PERSON VERY EXTREMELY INCLUDED -- because arguing to remove some but allowing others is a gross double-standard. Or in other words, you can't have your cake and it eat it, too. These are the only two logically sound stances here. Every other stance is bogus. Anyone complaining about nametags and Regular difficulty but still voting for third-person and crosshairs and such to be an option is blithely parroting a double-standard.
  21. leehwgoc@gmail.com

    Why do regular/recruit servers exist?

I love playing on servers without third-person enabled. - It drastically cuts down on player-killer trolls, because such players are invariably deluded wimps that only have the courage to camp on roofs prone in third-person so they're still able to look for people to shoot below without exposing themselves. - In first-person you can't magically look above weeds to spot everything around your character, so you don't even have to bother with using your ears. Crawling through zed-infested villages in day or night is faaaaaaar more intense an experience when you can't exploit third-person-view. - using freelook fluidly and well becomes an even more crucial gameplay skill, a unique feature in ARMA/DayZ as far as other shooters go, and thus should be emphasized to the maximum I could go on. Point is, it's utterly silly to complain about something as trivial as nametags supposedly ruining DayZ and then turn around and join a third-person server. Which is exactly what we all know several of you in this thread are doing.
  22. leehwgoc@gmail.com

    Why do regular/recruit servers exist?

What's REALLY broken and inappropriate in this game is third-person view. You know, it's completely hypocritical to your point to assert that Regular difficulty shouldn't exist but third-person-view is fine. You say the game shouldn't be made easier on principle, but then you want the single most advantageous-for-the-player server setting to remain while complaining about lesser settings.

    Slendermans in DayZ?

Guys, he's just saying it'd be interesting for there to be a Slenderman easter egg somewhere in DayZ's 225 kilometer world. DayZ's game-world is practically perfect for easter eggs. It was always entertaining trying to find the yeti in America's Army, it'd be even more challenging trying to find Slenderman in DayZ.

You've got to be kidding me....

No excuse to be chased for 10 minutes. Zeds can't follow up steep hills, find one next time. There are plenty.

    Weapon Nerf Poll

This post is ironic. It makes a point against itself. Indeed, the PDW and M9SD are still viable with the changes. Because the PDW has a huge clip, and because the M9SD is simple to crawl around with and get easy headshots. But here's thing -- this is ONLY true for these two sidearms. And that's proof right there that these damage changes are broken. M1911s and Revolvers are worthless in any situation now that isn't 'alamoing' (i.e. getting zeds to follow you into a house), because with 4 clips you can now only get a grand total of 8 zombie kills without headshots. And glocks and m9s aren't much better. You can get only 4 kills per clip with a glock and 3 with an m9, and their ammo is rarer.
