On another note, imagine they added random weapon jamming related to weapon conjunction like they did in Far Cry 2/Fallout 3+NV? It would be rib-crushingly hilarious to read all the QQ posts stemming from that.

I think this is a great idea. I actually liked Fallout 3/NV's degradation system as well as the one seen in Far Cry 2, although at times it felt like the guns were made of chocolate. Providing some weapons with randomized "health" on spawn sounds nice too- if anything I'd go by the Fallout model myself, where if you find a high-tier weapon in an earlier or unusual loot spawn area, it starts at minimal health. I guess in this case finding duplicates of a weapon and having the proper tool could allow you to field strip one and cannibalize working parts to improve the condition of the other, so in that sense even the heaviest geared players will have to venture into heavily-trafficked areas and expose themselves to risk. I think that lack of risk at endgame is one of the cons of this mod so far, so I think it would be a good way to mitigate that.

I agree, and I think this would be great. I feel that once your character has the bare necessities (1 weapon for self defense, means to hunt+cook meat, water bottle, maybe map+compass+watch), you can either just survive indefinitely away from cities, or decide to gear upwards and better prepare for PVP. That's all fine and good, but I would like it if survival remained a concern even in endgame- I think it would be awesome if they could make survival something that scaled upwards with progress, rather than something that becomes an afterthought once you find yourself the better gear. Maybe they can make heavier equipment (most primary weapons + larger backpacks/inventories) drain your hunger/thirst more quickly and reduce your mobility or whatnot.

I agree that gaining blood becomes extremely easy once you find the matches/hatchet/knife and a decent-sized backpack. In my previous life I was running around with a coyote backpack with 3 bottles of water and the rest of the slots filled with cooked meats, and the only reason I ever fell below 11000 blood and died was because of a server hopper :/. If they do decide to introduce a passive blood regeneration, I'm hoping it's something that's restricted, either by having full thirst/hunger or only if you're in forests, or etc.

To all the people complaining about PvP...
DoshDosh replied to foozy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have no problem with sniping and pvp in general. I have a problem with noobs who can't face a firefight head-on and accept the risks and consequences, and instead opt to disconnect instead of die, or server hop to gain an easy kill. I know there probably won't be any consequences for the noobs who do it now, but I do hope that they stealth patch the game so whoever does it when it's fixed get the full brunt of the new system. -
is there even a point in going to nw airfield?
DoshDosh replied to t3hnoob's topic in New Player Discussion
I think it's a pretty popular destination and players will try to get on low-populated, possibly night servers to try to travel through it safely... only they don't realize that there are bandits who know that mindset and will purposely camp on low-pop servers and wait there for them. -
I think it would be a good thing to note that as of 1.7.2, zombies might hear less through objects, but their sight range has drastically increased- they can spot you at about 100m away I believe? So as of now, I would only crouch run or move quickly through woods and prone run in open fields until I'm sure that it's clear of any zombies whatsoever.

Worried about DayZ's future, let's discuss.
DoshDosh replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the future for Day Z is looking pretty good unless something unexpected happens (meaning if things continue normally). I know lots of players are complaining when there are new patches, but I really don't think I've seen an update in any game where 100% of the community is happy... and I guess considering I played about two months worth of Diablo 3, that figure probably seems even worse for me. Personally I would love and fully support an independent Day Z- considering that Arma 2 sales have shot through the roof ever since Day Z became popular, I'm pretty sure the good folks at Bohemia are looking at it as a good thing. I could even see them have it released as mode for Arma 3, then re-release it separately as its own game in order to maximize profit (which I wouldn't even think of as a negative thing at this point). I think there's definitely a risk that they could lose or alienate some current players with possible future fixes/patches/etc., but I think that the game will continue to grow and attract new members as it has up until this time. On a side note, I'd love to see a standalone game that isn't restricted to Arma 2's options. -
I thought the only real change to zombies aside from the slightly reduced noise detection (through objects) was that they had far greater vision now? I guess that would force the players with looser trigger fingers to more carefully consider when to actually fire, but honestly I haven't personally encountered a moment where this has affected my player encounters too much... although that may be because I don't mind sacrificing firepower for some reduced noise. I do like the idea that firing your weapon in general should be a much heavier decision than it is now; it's risky in cities and etc., but in other areas there doesn't seem to be much consequence. Personally I think it would be awesome to make it risky to shoot just about anywhere except in the most isolated places.

Agreed so hard, I would love this, and I don't even have anything against the current "top tier equipment". There's just something more desperate about it when you have less firearms that make the game so much easier. I'd like to think it might be something like this: Starting weapons: Crowbar, Hatchet, Makarov, Lee-Enfield, double barrel Mid weapons: M1911, Revolver, Crossbow (silence can be considered a "sidegrade" here) End weapons: Winchester, CZ550, Glock/M9 (low noise as "sidegrades") Of course that's just my own wishful thinking. I'd also love it if ammo in general was made more scarce, so the best-geared player has trouble maintaining more than 3 or 4 mags/clips/etc.
-
I think it will happen (if not during testing then most certainly either between alpha -> beta or beta -> "release"), and I think it's pretty much necessary at this point, with how so many players have been able to take advantage of duping and/or have survived for MUCH longer than they should have by disconnecting to avoid dying and losing all of their equipment. I'm hoping an equipment/stat wipe occurs around the time when the disconnect exploit in particular gets fixed, but I'm sure that's unlikely.

next Patch: FIX D/C BEFORE NEW FEATURES
DoshDosh replied to osiriszoran's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except "You obviously missed the head, Get better kids." is a COD mentality that isn't supported by the ARMA milsim, where you're supposed to favor center of mass. You can go back to playing BF or COD if you want to be a 1337 h34dsh0t m4st3r -
next Patch: FIX D/C BEFORE NEW FEATURES
DoshDosh replied to osiriszoran's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was killed by a server hopper today who got hit by my M24 shot and disconnected before he died- I let my guard down and figured he'd just log on another server, but instead he disconnected, hopped on another server, bandaged and moved behind my position, then respawned and killed me while I was scanning the far area. Honestly, I don't even care that much if players disconnect on me in the middle of the fight- it just makes me feel like I won that engagement. On the other hand, bullshit like this should definitely be stomped- I've read a few other stories where disconnecters maneuver themselves behind you for an easy kill, and it completely affects other players... I think there should be a pretty harsh punishment for this, but I'm figuring that it will be dealt with later on (I can't imagine this not being fixed during beta/release).
