  1. Car batteries. I mean if you want to pick nits, shouldn't the amount of 5.56 ammunition allocated to a server eventually be completely used up? Certain suspensions of disbelief are required in gaming, even in "realistic simulations". And BTW most of the ATLS gear I used in the field didn't require major power sources other than an AED which ran off a high voltage lithium battery. The process of stablizing a field patient isn't a process of "curing them and making them better". Its keeping them alive til you can get them somewhere where you can administer more advanced treatment.
  2. Eh well I had one nice day at least. Been awhile since I was able to actually PLAY the game, and not spend all my time scanning log files.

Bogs probably found the camp around 0850. You all didn't arrive til 2313, Mens Rights being the first to connect. LeChuck, Limpz, TooBig three minutes later at 2316. Lolilover69 and But show up 3 minutes after that at 2319 Atheism shows up at 2325. At 2325, But is kicked by BattlEye for exceeding our server maxping setting which happens to be a pretty forgiving setting. Our maxping is set to 300 to accommodate Australian regulars that play on 401. Three of the above listed players in your clan did not start out on the hill with you according to our analysis of the RPT worldspace data. But were on the hill as of the time of the attack and could not have reached that position naturally in the time between their server arrival and the time of the assault, according to our analysis. And don't take this as hostile....I just deal with situations as people bring them to me. We have three admins for our server and only two of us are technically competent to even understand the logs on hand. So I spend most of my time stuck in logs cause of various complaints from players on our public team speak, and clan mates both, on our private team speak. I just reviewed the situation and made the call that seemed appropriate based on what I saw. Beyond that, I won't go into further technical details. I'm zipping up the log files now and putting them on our FTP for our primary admin to grab if needed.

Actually I was the admin that did the ban. I think using the term "Admin Abuse" is a little strong here and I'll go into why. I'm not going to go into log details here as they expose sensitive information like IP's and GUID's and we hardly need more of those getting stolen, but I'll gladly forward the logs through our main admin who is registered with the DayZ support site in regards to this issue. The RPT data for you guys showed you on the server 12 (A total period of 20 minutes for various logins from your mates) minutes before taking up position on the hill north of the factory. But you were not all on that hill when you arrived according to our logs. Not all of you. Within the space of 5 minutes the RPT data shows you all on the hill together. Well at least at that point your world space coordinates are all relatively the same as compared to the 12 minutes before. And as we had been dealing with an inordinate amount of teleport hacking for the last few days, after reviewing the data I made the call to remove you all from the server due to my inability to reconcile the large change in position for several of your clan mates. If the bans are unjust, I will happily lift them, but the RPT worldspace data for several of you jumped several grids by my estimation, to get to that hill after your individual timestamp arrivals on the server. Overall if that attack was completely legit (meta-gaming and fourth dimensional stuff to me is a bit iffy but its not "against the rules"), sorry about that, cause we're definitely up for a fight. But we had over watch on that hill, we've always got over watch on that hill as its a major defensive liability....and there were no bogey reports til right as the Ural got hit, over watch called contacts on hill, and suddenly the interior of the factory is full of explosions and the crew in the Ural is getting dead at amazing levels of -25000 or so blood. Though that could be completely legit using AS50 NATO rounds. Overall it was after looking at the world position changes that I decided to throw down a ban. Far as the barbed wire goes we've carried a lot of stuff from other servers we played on before getting our own. We also do a lot of supply raiding around the Berezino and northern industrial areas, plus barbed wire and tank traps spawn quite often inside the Factory. There are probably dupes in there but most of the time its because the storage tents we use aren't saving their inventory state correctly and anything we use from them gets restocked with a server restart. I don't really keep track of that kind of thing and I'd be pretty hard pressed to tell you which was duped and which wasn't. I just use whats available when its available. But overall our clan quite commonly goes on scavenging missions...in the very Ural you disabled, as it was leaving on a start of the evening scavenging mission. So throwing around the "dupes" accusation is a little petty, especially when your boys are throwing out some of the rarest sniper rounds in the game like they're cheap to waste on human targets.....but I'm sure you all scavenge helicopter crashes all the time, right? Again, we're more than happy to put forward the logs for review for the DayZ team, if we're in error on our translation of your locational changes after your arrival, then we're more than happy to admit our error and lift the ban.

    Military offroad

Everything with "offroad" in its title sucks at driving offroad. Its sort of hilarious. But in defense of the language, they're better at offroad driving than say....the Old Hatchback. Also all the boats but the PBX being capable of a speed of about 2 knots is sorta hilarious. Why not just add rowboats and be done with it?

    Military offroad

The UAZ, which is a camouflage military jeep is still in DayZ 1.7.2.4 The Military Offroad, which is a maroon colored truck with a black soft top is not currently in DayZ 1.7.2.4 No idea why its not spawning at this time, but, someone decided that its not, so its not. But it is in the DayZ base resources.

    Script Error #55

Ahh I get no blank lines when I pull it up in NP++, I'll have to keep that in mind.
  9. Yeah sorta something thats happening to all of us now post 1.7.2.4 I can appreciate that we all don't have a rectal thermometer jammed up our asses 24/7 and thus the Debug monitor entry for temperature was removed from the interface, but....the GUI indicator is a bit broken, definitely. You really don't have any idea how hot/cold you are til it starts blinking its state of emergency and you're sick. Hell one night it wasn't even raining, I was out scouting a location where some members of my clan had lost a vehicle cause they got ambushed, was looking for anything I could recover from their corpses, suddenly for no reason at all my temperature indicator starts blinking, so I throw on a heat pack and a few minutes later....I'm coughing. Antibiotics don't exactly grow on trees either.

    Playing with or without DayzDB

I stopped using DayZDB after about my first few days playing. I don't really care if people use it or not, I just feel like the game is more challenging if I try to work shit out on my own. Its neither good, or bad, far as I'm concerned, its up to what you want out of your DayZ experience really and YMMV in regards to that.

    Thunderdome Schmunderdome

Unfortunately right now the best way to play DayZ as intended is to play it offline entirely. This of course required me to script in AI Survivors into the scenario and it also requires me to manage vehicle spawns locally (Still working out how to randomly assign spawns for them on a local copy), but otherwise, its the only way to enjoy the game. Unfortunately I also have to enjoy it alone, in this situation, which sort of sucks goat balls in general. But at least I can guarantee I'm playing it as intended.
  12. Duping can't be fixed til Rocket works out a way to sync data in real time between the Hive and server resident child objects. The current heartbeat saves for server to hive seem to be on average around three minutes, longer if the Hive is experiencing any level of above average connection load. Given as SQL/TCP processes start keeling over when you have more than 5000 socket connections open at once, it a given to understand that the Hive is probably in a constant state of above average connection load. And yeah a lot of people dupe on purpose. Cause they can, cause its easy, cause they feel justified in doing so since hackers/server wipes/hive wipes have made them lose stuff in the past. But not everyone dupes willfully. First time I duped anything I did it completely by accident and deleted the duped stuff cause I was afraid I'd get banned for it. Now I just can't even be bothered to constantly empty out my tents after every server restart cause the server restart restocks my tents with the last known good save that the Hive has for the tent and regardless of how many times I save my tent, the last known good save seems to be the first save I used on the tent after putting it up and putting items in it.

Thats why I always use it when I can get my hands on it. Ghillies might make you hard to see, but I'd rather be harder to kill.

Battle Eye kick Script Restriction #55

Everyones getting it. For reasons that don't make any sense in regards to the error itself. There are threads about it in Bug Reports, and Server General. So far all of BattlEye's attempts to fix it have just made it even more prominent.
  15. semipr0

    Thunderdome Schmunderdome

You must be new around here. Let me educate you. You can't hide anything....anywhere. There are hacks available that can see every tent, vehicle and player on the server. Not exactly a case of LOL YOU PUT YOUR CAMPS IN THE WRONG PLACE NUB.
  16. semipr0

    Script Error #55

Happening everywhere really. Line 55 of scripts.txt has something to do with enableTeamSwitch, but the people in scripts.log that are getting kicked for #55 are showing associated vehicle explosion calls. Problem is, not even 10% of the people in my scripts log being hit with Script Restriction #55 are driving vehicles at all. BattlEye put out a fix update for it around 8/6 or so, doesn't seem to have fixed the situation.
  17. Uh your gear doesn't really have much to do with that? I find Ghillie suits in the church in Cherno with a pretty fair regularity. AK's are pretty easy to come across if you know where to look. Milgrade sniper rifles are a bit rarer, but they're out there and plenty of people have found them, so long as they don't die, they keep them. I've dealt with a lot of hackers on my server, one of the main reasons I don't die in the middle of their stupid attacks is because I don't spend any time yelling "WTF" at my monitor when shit goes banana shaped. I just disconnect....immediately.

    Thunderdome Schmunderdome

Yeah this particular hack of all the hacks pretty much ruin the entire point of DayZ. Doesn't really affect Scavenge and Slay, but Survive goes right out the window. So much for Post Apocalyptic Survival Simulation. If you can't hide from the all seeing eye, I feel that Rocket should at least change the default Arma 2 "Surrender" option to a DayZ version which allows us to pull out our own side arm and blow our characters brains out.
  19. In counterpoint hackers are the reason we run our server at Regular settings with name tags on. Otherwise you have just about 0% chance to identify who is fucking around without just about all your log analysis being made up of wild guesses.

BETA 95819 is out. Any issues??

Gonna hold off a bit. The last three Arma 2 beta updates have all been deemed unstable within about 24 hours of their release. Will stick with 95417 til this is confirmed good.
  21. So you and your friends stock up some sandbags, some cat wire, and you decide you want to get set up for a nice defensive fire fight. You go to a firehouse in some town, or maybe on an airfield, you get it all bagged up and open the doors and get ready for whatever comes at you. You get one or two people maybe, then everything goes quiet. Then suddenly five minutes later, six people spawn directly inside your defensive perimeter and start capping defenders from behind before you can even realize you're now looking the wrong way. Welcome to the Fourth Dimension of DayZ Survival, a world where any attempt to "survive" can be completely circumvented by group of people leaving the server you're defending on, moving to another server together, getting inside the building you've set up defensively, then logging back in to the server you're trying to enjoy a straight bit of fun on, simply so they can shoot you in the back rather than attempt to outfight you from the front. Some might call this smart play, but I don't. Everyone thats played DayZ for a fair amount of time complains that there isn't much to do beyond death match in Cherno or Elektro or on the NW Airfield, and that the "Survival" aspect of the game is a little shallow. But the minute ANYONE sets up some kind of survival situation, where they're more than willing to defend what they've set up defenses for, all people want to do is find a way to exploit their way past the challenge simply so they can "win" easily. I'm really starting to be of the opinion that server swapping needs to put people that swap servers back on the beach, in completely random spawn points. This would severely retard groups "wall hopping" defensive survival encampments simply by moving into the position of a defended area on another server, and logging into the contended area and nullifying its defenses entirely by abusing trans-dimensional travel. This would also put a pretty quick stop to people dupe farming on one server and moving their entire stock load to another server because nobody is going to want to haul their crap from the beach to wherever they are setting up on a new server. Its also a good fix for people that are moving from server to server hunting Stary and NW Airfield for high grade mil spawns and attempting to do so with as little risk as possible. Overall though, attempting a long term "survival" situation in DayZ, fortifying ANY position and trying to hold it, is largely a worthless endeavor, you are very rarely going to get a straight up fight in these situations, someone is always going to abuse the server hopping mechanic to "win"....ruining what otherwise could have been fun for both sides. And this isn't even bothering to mention what a travesty ESP hacks make of attempting to build a "Survival" encampment anywhere in Chernarus. This is just touching on game resident features. Overall, I see no reason why people that are willfully server hopping of their own choice need to spawn EXACTLY where they logged off on another server. But if this is unreasonable at least add some kind of wormhole graphic that renders whenever someone is about to pop in from a parallel dimension....least then it would be slightly believable...in a completely sci-fi and totally unrealistic way.

    Fighting the Fourth Dimension

I'm of the opinion the toolbox should be replaced with a multi-tool and everyone should spawn with one. Cause its not just "good loot" places that get wired up and impossible to access. Medium value residential spawns all over the coast line of a server thats been up for awhile will see the same level of wiring out and its hardly cause someone was actually trying to use it as a defensive point, its cause someones trying to deny access to the area to anyone else...that doesn't have a tool box. So the argument about being able to access areas in this way, by server hopping, isn't really the fix that the game needs. Just need more capability to actually remove these emplacements to be available. There is a difference between a fortified location thats been fortified for purposes of survival and enjoying a good fight fight, and a meter of catwire and sandbags clogging up the Chernogorosk schoolhouse hallways so no one can get into the building...like...ever.
  23. Hi, as a server administrator, I wanted to give you a few tips in regards to becoming involved in helping support the ever growing player load of DayZ. What Are My Rights? First and foremost, ensure you read the Refined Server Hosting Rules, Dante-shawn has done a pretty good job of lining everything you need to know about the rules without leaving too many lingering questions. So, completely honest, its worth knowing....because believe me every player on your server that you so much as say "boo" to will quote whatever version of the "rules" they want at you to try to cow you into submission and find a chink in your defense from which they can attempt to get your server shut down by the DayZ team. So...know your rights...and as you can see from the rules, you don't have very many rights at all. So, ensure you keep that in mind cause forgetting your place in the pecking order around here could lead to a waste of your money. Who is the best DayZ server hosting reseller? Honest answer? None of them. They all use the same software, they all have roughly the same response time in regards to customer service (expect anywhere from 6 - 10 hours for responses to support tickets), nearly all of them have been compromised by the script hack that allowed hackers to download server.cfg files from their servers, which is why the RCon passwords for hundreds of servers ended up dumped on 4chan and Reddit about 4 days ago and every one of them will tell you that their servers were not vulnerable to that exploit and every one of them are lying. And since they all use the same software, regardless of you having changed that RCon password multiple times, the old one STILL WORKS for logging into the server controls at the game lobby. Simple facts are, you get what you pay for and in most cases, even if you pay for a 200 dollar a month dedicated server from one of them, you're going to get about the same service the people paying 40 dollars a month are going to get. So...overall its a case of pick the least bad of the bunch, or...put the hosting companies names in a hat and go with the one you draw out of the hat, simple facts are lots of people will tell you this company or that company is bad, but, simple facts are, none of them are all that good. Until some companies in the GSP top 20 or so start hosting servers for DayZ, don't expect spectacular service and you won't find yourself disappointed. What do I need to do to be a server administrator? Well first of all you need to be ready to stop playing DayZ almost entirely. Due to current alpha conditions, to be a responsible server admin you will almost always be logged out or sitting in the lobby while pouring through server logs to see who the most recent culprit is that has mass teleported your entire server to one location, turned everyone into cows, has teleported to every populated location on the server and killed everyone there, is driving a bus at 400 kmh through Chernogorosk while setting off nukes, has teleported every vehicle on the server to an unspecified location and left them in a pile, has run around invisible killing players or is just straight out god-moding your entire server and laughing along the way. Oh and thats just a small slice of the things you'll need to be dealing with. So really, other than being ready to give up playing DayZ entirely, you also need to have an immense amount of spare time because not only are you paying to host a server, you're also now taking on a second job. Or you could just be a lazy bastard, not care about the hacking and exploiting and let the automated server restarts attempt to clean up whatever messes are going on. Its an option too. How do I find out if someone was hacking on my server? Well its easy......there are three major files that are important to pay attention to on your server, Arma2OAServer.RPT, Server_Console.log, and scripts.log. Arma2OAServer.RPT deals with all the information between the server and the DayZ Hive in regards to player activity/location/inventory/child objects, unfortunately though the RPT file resets every time a server is reset, so you can't really get a long term view of this data. Also I should mention that while inventory stuff is fairly cut and dried, child objects are identified by very cryptic numerical identifiers, locations are literally X/Y/Z coordinates of a magnitude that will make no sense in regards to the 2D map at all, and the file tends to get spammed with error messages that are difficult to discern why they're happening, or what is causing them. Server_Console.log is a helpful little file that will tell you who was on your server, when they logged in, and when they logged out, it also contains connection and validation information for each player....but other than those elements, the only gems you'll find in this pile of text are the occasional hilarious text exchanges in the direct channel, and those are fairly uncommon, so overall the server_console.log file isn't very entertaining and is only helpful for cross comparison with the other two files. Scripts.log is a file that contains all legitimate and illegitimate script calls the server has recorded while in session, its a cranky file though and any time it exceeds 2MB, you have to rotate it out of your log directory and let the server create a new one. Its also completely useless if someone is using a bypass that allows them to play without BattlEye actually paying attention to what they're doing. You know....forget what I said at the beginning there, its not easy. I was lying. But keep in mind if you ban someone from your server, you have to be ready to prove to the DayZ Team, on demand, that your decision to do so was justified. Okay I found those files, what does all this stuff actually mean? No one really knows. Well....there are like 11 people in Prague that probably do, the rest of us just piece together what we can by deductive logic. So, good luck with that, and feel free to enlighten us with any amazing discoveries you might make. Why do server admins put up with all this shit if its this bad? Most of us are probably certifiably insane. That and regardless of the ridiculous demands made of us by numerous parties involved with our decision, and allowance to be server administrators, we've chosen to put up with all this shit because we like the mod a lot and we want to support it for our friends and the DayZ community. So get on out there and bite the bullet Tiger. Grab your credit card, pick a server host, and join us in the hurt locker.....cause seriously, the more servers we have, the better a chance we all have that a small percentage of us might go for 24 hours without having our entire server destroyed by a sudden freak storm that rains Ural Civilians everywhere. </tongueincheek>

2 Weeks of Being a Server Admin...

Yeah the DayZ Radar situation is unfortunate. It would be an invaluable tool in the current state of the alpha for server admins. But unfortunately....can't use it...so we're mostly stuck trying to visualize what is going on by cross comparing three very obtuse log files at the same time.

    green mountain stories?

Other than a few larger than average zed spawns and occasionally having to pick off people spawning in the tower from other servers or dropping by to try to find vehicles, Green Mountain is no more scary than any other part of Chernarus...in fact, Cherno is far scarier than Green Mountain.
